"Sam, babe are you sure you know how to put this thing up?" Kurt asked, looking back and forth between the directions and Sam. "That doesn't look like the picture,"
"Relax Kurt, I got this," Sam assured him. "This thingy goes here… and then this thingy goes there and then… voila," Sam stepped back with a proud smile on his face just for it to deflate when he saw the outcome of all his hard work. The tent that he had spent the last three hours putting up looked like it would close in on itself if so much as a light breeze blew into it.
"Okay maybe you were right," He admitted. "God why is this so complicated? All I want to do is put up a tent, why can't it just be like… a blow up or something?"
"Maybe because it's not a pool?" Kurt laughed.
"Yeah well I wish it was. We should've just gone to the beach with Finn and Rachel. I don't want to go camping anymore," Sam pouted.
"But why did we decide not to go with them?" Kurt reminded Sam.
"Because you get sunburn easily," Sam remembered. "And because Rachel's annoying,"
"Exactly, no way were we going to spend spring break with her, this is supposed to be time for us to spend alone,"
"Yeah but now I ruined it because I can't put together a stupid tent,"
"Oh Sam, you didn't ruin anything," Kurt assured him with a kiss on his cheek. "Besides, if I'm being honest I didn't want to go camping anyway. There's bugs and dirt and it's cold outside and I'm totally not comfortable with the idea of sleeping on the ground,"
"Then why did you suggest it?"
"Because all the movies on TV make it look so fun and calm, it looked like a good idea. Obviously they don't know anything about mosquito bites or skincare,"
"Okay so we both don't want to go camping so we have nothing planned for tonight. I thought we planned out the whole week, what are we going to do now?"
"Something inside obviously," Kurt said, thinking when suddenly he got an idea. "I got it,"
"What? What is it?"
"We have to go shopping," Kurt exclaimed, grabbing Sam's hand and dragging him to his car,
"Don't we always?" Sam mumbled, allowing Kurt to gently move him into the passenger seat. Hopefully the idea was a good one that actually worked.
"Why do we need so many blankets?" Sam asked as Kurt piled five sets of blankets into their cart. "I didn't know you got that cold. And I thought we we staying inside,"
"I don't Sam and we aren't, it's for the surprise," Kurt explained. "Just go with it,"
"I don't like surprises," Sam told him. "I like to know what's going on in my life,"
"Okay here, we're going shopping for the idea that I got for what we're going to do tonight,"
"Oh okay," Sam said, shrugging for a moment before he realized what Kurt said. "Hey that's not fair babe,"
"Just trust me Sam, it'll be fun," Kurt told him, grabbing his hand and pushing the cart down the next aisle.
"Well can you at least tell me what we're getting?"
"So far we have blankets, pillows, Christmas lights, which I'm surprised they still have out, and clothespins so all we need now is some movies, dinner, graham crackers, marshmallows and chocolate," Kurt listed off from his mental shopping list that he was so good at making.
"We're making smores?" Sam asked, confused. "How?"
"In the oven, they taste better that way,"
"Okay, well how about I get that stuff and a few movies and you pick out dinner. I'm tired of walking,"
"Poor baby," Kurt rolled his eyes playfully. "Fine but make sure you get the regular sized marshmallows not the jumbo ones, they have to fit on the crackers,"
"Got it," Sam said, starting to walk away.
"And pick something that we both want to watch," Kurt called after him.
"Right," Sam called back to him.
Kurt smiled after him as he watched Sam walk off, reciting the things he had said with his fingers. This was going to be fun.
"Kurt, can I take this blindfold off now?" Sam whined, sitting in a chair unable to see anything.
"Not yet, I'm not done yet," Kurt told him. "Just wait like five more minutes,"
"I still don't understand why I can't see and help with what you're doing,"
"Because I want to do something nice for you. I love you,"
"I love you too but I still don't like surprises,"
"Whatever Sam, just wait and you'll be glad you did,"
"Fine,"
So Sam sat there for another ten minutes while Kurt bustled around him, going this way and that way, putting things in different places. Once he was done he went over to Sam and helped him stand up and walk over to where the surprise was.
"Okay ready?" Kurt asked him.
"Born ready,"
"1-2-3!"
Sam took off the blindfold and looked around at the sight in front of him. There were blankets draped over chairs to make a fort decorated with the Christmas lights and pillows in front of the TV. In the middle of the fort was the living room table which had the DVD's and smores placed on it.
"Oh my god," Sam said in a state of shock.
"Do you like it?" Kurt asked.
"No, I love it. This is awesome,"
"Yay, I'm so glad,"
"Are we going to go in it?"
"Of course we are, why would you ask that?"
"Well I don't want to mess up your hard work,"
"That's what you're supposed to do silly," Kurt told him. "Besides how are we supposed to brag about this to everyone if we don't have pictures of us in it,"
"Right,"
"So… let's go?"
"Let's go," Sam said, taking Kurt's hand and leading him under the blankets.
"Best spring break ever," They both said as Kurt snapped a picture of them under the fort.
"Beat that Rachel," Kurt laughed as he sent it to all their friends. "Now let's have fun," He said, turning to Sam.
Notes:
I love camping, indoor camping not outdoor camping. I'm Kurt, no bugs, no dirt and I can't stand the cold. But putting up blankets and making a pillow fort in front of the TV while watching movies and eating smores is the best! I do it all the time with my siblings, it's so fun and then we don't have to worry about the scary outdoors 🍫💽 ️ ️ Also yes I said DVD's, I'm not old I'm just cool 😎😎
The original prompt was Sam/Kurt + tent which I guess turned into Sam/Kurt camping which turned into Sam/Kurt indoor camping but I hope everyone still likes it especially you pixelaitria, I know nothing about outdoor camping but this was still really fun to write 😄😄✨✨
