Butterscotch sat in his room at his desk, today he was practicing his vows and meeting his bride Twilight Sparkle whom was the daughter of a lord. In front of him was a butterfly in ajar. He opened a window of his room and released the butterfly. It flew off into the sky, and he honestly wished he could fly away like butterfly.
There was a knock on his door, he turned to the door at this, "come in."
His mother poked her head into his room, "hello dear, I just came to check if you were ready", she smiled at him fondly, "Im glad to see you are, we have to go now or we'll be late dear."
He nodded as he got up and walked to the door to follow his mother outside, "yes mother." His mother was a shy and meek woman, just like his father but she expected a lot from him none the less and was pushy and even over bearing. Just in a more passive way than most would assume. The entire shy family walked out their front door and down the steps to the carriage which was waiting for them.
"It's a beautiful day."
"Rather nice indeed", his father said.
"Yes, such a beautiful day for a glorious wedding", she said putting hoof onto her son's leg smiling up at him proudly, Butterscotch knew better though, they only wanted this wedding for the status it brought to them.
"It's a rehearsal dear, not really the wedding." His father said putting a fox scarf over her shoulders. Butterscotch hated that scarf, it was cruel he brought it up to his mother once, she called them vermin and gently chastised him for caring for the, quote; vile creatures. "
"It's a rehearsal for a glorious wedding", she said cheerfully back to him.
"Well, assuming nothing unexpected happens of course."
"Oh, dear I'd die if it did", she looked at the driver expectantly as she came to a puddle, he quickly opened the carriage doo, taking his fish market apron off into the puddle, she frowned at him disapprovingly.
"Is something wrong Misses shy?"
"Yes, please put on your carriage hat, I'm a little disappointed by your unprofessionalism, we are paying for this after all."
"Oh, um, sorry miss I must have forgotten it."
She sighed and pulled out a hate and handed it to him, "I'm honestly embarrassed to be seen with you Mister Cranky." She said with a slightly vexed expression.
He sighed as she walked in, "forgive me please Misses Shy."
She silently stuck her nose in the air as she got into the carriage, Butterscotch and his father followed suit. She sighed as they all got into the carriage, "Butterscotch I'm not sure you understand how important this wedding is."
"Mother I do really i-"
"Your father and I could drink tea with royalty", his father nodded excitedly.
"I know mother i-"
"Oh, please don't talk, just listen dear", she said smiling as she put a hoof on his lap. He went quiet. Everything must go according to plan. "Do you understand?"
"Yes."
"Every last little thing dear."
"Yes mother."
She smiled and patted his cheek, "that's my good boy."
"How did it ever come to this Velvet?"
"Terrible luck I suppose dear", Twilight Velvet said to her husband fatly as they walked through their home in despair.
"What if they find out about our… financial situation."
"We're screwed, which is why everything must go according to plan", she shot with conviction.
"Your right", he said with a sigh, but is making twilight marry some stranger the best way to go about it?
"Don't you get cold feet now, Velvet said to him with a hard tone, we are so close to getting out of this hole. Do not ruin this chance, stick to the plan!" She spat at him, poking her hoof into his chest with every word.
He sighed, "your right."
Twilight sat in front of her mirror as misses smith did her corsets. She was silent as the straps were tightened to the point of making her grunt and gasp. Her face was serious and somber.
Spike sat on the bed not far from her, "Twilight, what if you don't like Butterscotch?"
"Spike, that doesn't matter", she said annoyed, in truth she was very much worried about it, but she had a duty to her family to marry him regardless. She wasn't forced into this, but rather pressured and borderline bullied into it by them, her mother using guilt tripping to get her to stomp out any resistance she may have had for even a second.
"Oh, of course it does deary", Misses Smith chimed in, "it matters very much."
"Hardly she shot back at her, my family needs their money….." she looked to the dresser in despair, "it feels disgusting, tricking someone into this though….."
"Then don't!" spike said to her.
"Its not that simple spike", she replied flatly.
"You don't have to do this if you don't want to dear", she turned to the doorway to find her parents.
"Yes, you don't, but you will if you love us", her mother said.
"I already made up my mind to do it, really", she said with a forced smile.
"Good, in that case lace those corsets properly, I can her you talk without gasping." The two then walked off down the hall.
"You know you've hooked a winner this time", his father said proudly.
"Yes, now just reel her in dear."
"Yes mother," shouldn't Twilight Sparkle, marry a um… lord?"
"Oh, don't talk like that dear, we're just as good as they are, why else would they want you to marry their daughter?" She replied calmly.
"I….I suppose your right. "
"Dear stop being so nervous, you can't mess this up for us." She chastised. From outside the carriage there was a loud coughing from Cranky. "Oh, please do stop coughing, its annoying sir", she said to him unsympathetically. Now butterscotch don't forget everything has to be perfect, so no more being insecure, please?"
"I-I'll try mother." Despite this he felt anger at those words. How could he just stop being insecure, as if she herself wasn't insecure. He disliked his mother, not because she was over bearing and unsympathetic, it was because she was a hypocrite, and didn't even care.
"We'd like it very much if you'd do more than try son, this is important", his father nodded.
"But… I've never even spoken to her…"
"And that's a good thing his father said with a smile."
"Yes, very much, I think you might ruin this entire wedding if you did dear."
"Yes mother." He said with a wince.
"Are you ready dear?" Velvet asked anxiously.
"Born for it dear."
"Good, they're here, she said as the doorbell rang, Spike opened the door and outside Misses Shy was fiddling with Butterscotch's clothes.
"Oh, dear look at the way your standing, stand up straight and look like a man dear, you're going to embarra-" she turned and stared at the Sparkles awkwardly before smiling sheepishly. "OH!" They all walked in and she smiled as she looked around, "oh my, this is lovely."
"Not as big as our place dear, mm, no a bit shabby really."
"Dear!"
"Well, it's true."
"Be polite, you'll offend them she whispered at him upset."
Spike cleared his throat, as he introduced the guests, "Misses, and Mister Shy."
"A pleasure, Misses Sparkle, you look lovely."
She forced a smile at him, "why thank you, Mister Shy."
Nightlight smiled at them curtly, "well hello, welcome to our home."
"Come with us for some tea, won't you?" They all walked off talking.
Butterscotch sighed, he hated this, and was beyond nervous and just downright scared. He looked at the piano and sat down beginning to play. His nerves instantly melted away at this. He was forced to take lessons as a child, and it had paid off, it was his escape, one of his escapes.
"Hello there."
Butterscotch yelped as he nearly jumped out of his skin, needless to say he certainly jumped out of that seat knocking it over. he found himself facing a purple unicorn mare smiling awkwardly at him. she was beautiful, too beautiful, he wasn't going to be able to talk to her.
"Sorry about that, I didn't mean to scare you um…."
"Butterscotch", he squeaked.
She frowned at this, "excuse me?"
"I'm um, butterscotch…."
She stared at him uncomfortably, "I'm sorry could you please speak up?"
"I'm um…. B-butterscotch!" He yelled, though it was hardly a yell. More like a quiet yelp.
