Slowly rising from her slumber she turns onto her stomach, her face pushed into her pillows as her breathing stops being so deep and it's more obvious that she's awake. Good thing she's alone.

"Wow."

Kate feels her heart stop as she's immediately going into detective mode, sitting straight up in her bed as her hand reaches for the gun in her night table. Before she can get to the gun though she sees the man behind the voice and her whole body relaxes. Her body sinks down into the mattress again, this time on her back, as her eyes watch him closely. He's standing by the door with coffee in his hand, at least if she can smell right.

"What are you doing here?" she questions tiredly and he smiles.

"After we… talked, you invited me over to do the things we'd talked about. Only before I got here I suppose you fell asleep because when I knocked there were no answers and so I started to get worried and used that spare key you told me about one night. I couldn't bring myself to leave when I saw how peaceful you look in your sleep," he tells her and she bites her lower lip. That's right, she did.

In all her glorious bliss she'd told him to come over, and then she'd fallen asleep from the pleasure before he got here.

"Here, made you coffee," he walks closer and hands out the mug with coffee in it and she's immediately pushing herself into a seated position to accept the black beverage.

"Where did you sleep?" she asks after a few minutes of silence, him sitting in that chair she keeps in one of the corners in her bedroom. "I usually wake at the lightest of movements so you can't have been sleeping in my bed," she explains when his eyes furrow in question.

"Ah," he nods and shrugs his shoulders. "I just slept on your couch, I figured you'd wake if I laid down in bed and I didn't want to disturb you. Like I said, you looked so peaceful, I didn't want to change that."

She nods, feels her cheeks fluster with the blush she doesn't want him to see but the look on his face tells her he does. A part of her wishes she can just pull up the covers and hide, another part of her can't fathom to hide from him. She's not sure she understands that part of her. She's never been this… this… open? with her other… conquests? lovers? She's not even sure what they are, and at the same time she doesn't want to know. Because if she knows, she'll run. She knows herself that well.

"Penny for your thoughts?" he interrupts her swirling mind and she shakes her head.

"Just thinking about the case," she says before she can think of a better excuse.

He raises his eyebrows. "The case we just finished?" he questions and she curses herself for not thinking more clearly.

He's been working with her, of course he knows there's nothing to do about that case anymore. They have the right guy and she finished the report last night so there's nothing more to it.

"So, what are your plans for today?" she changes the subject instead and can see he's seeing right through her, but to her surprise, and relief, he's not questioning her.

"Well, I thought that since I'm already here, maybe we could spend the day together, you're off right?" he suggests and she inhales sharply.

"I am," she answers and takes another sip from her coffee. "But what about Alexis and your mother?"

"Oh, well, Alexis is in school and my mother's at auditions all day," he waves it off and she sees no other reason for them not to spend the day. Other than them not getting too close that is.

"Okay," she says and he smiles. "So, what do you suggest we do?"

His smile turns into a wide grin and he stands from the chair, puts down his cup at her night table before he lets his hands hit the mattress, slowly going under the covers to find her belly. She gasps and feels her belly shiver with anticipation.

"I have a few ideas," he says and she hums as his fingers play with the hem of her panties. "I think you'll like the ones I want to start with."

She stretches to put her cup right next to his, knowing she won't be able to hold on to it for much longer and spilling all over them, and in her bed, wasn't exactly something that would ensure him continuing his teasing. Once her hands are free she lets them land on his cheeks, feeling the morning stubble on his jaw and she can't help but wonder how it would feel scratching her naked skin. When her eyes meet his she can see a warmth in them before she feels his finger dip inside her panties and she starts to breathe more heavily than earlier. It's going to be a long day, and she can't wait to live it.

Several orgasms later they're both panting on their backs, neither of them wanting to leave but both of their stomachs growling with the need of food. He's the first to break the silence with a chuckle after another one of her stomach's growls and she hits him in his chest.

"Ow," he complains but when she looks at him he's still wearing that big grin. "Come on, let's go get some food."

He's the first to raise and she's surprised when his arms go under her and he lifts her up bridal style. She's so surprised she's actually letting out a small scream.

"You're so cute," he says and she's about to scold him when his mouth shuts her up, turning her scold into a moan. Fuck, how's she going to survive him? "Do you want clothes on when we eat?" he asks and she bites her lip.

She's not sure they will eat if they're naked, not food anyway. "Yes, clothes."

He puts her down after another searing kiss and they put on their clothes, or more like underwear and shirts. It's not like they're going anywhere, they just need something to stop them from taking each other instead of eating the food their stomachs are craving. To Kate's utmost surprise he's not only going after the sandwiches she's normally having for breakfast, but goes to make pancakes. And she hates to admit they're pretty perfect when she tastes them.

"So, what do you usually do on your days off?" he asks and she pauses in her movements with the fork of pancake pieces on its way to her mouth.

"I don't really do anything," she says as she continues to put the pancake in her mouth.

His forehead wrinkles and his head tilts a bit, as if he's trying to read her mind. "But it's your day off, don't you do anything fun?"

She shrugs her shoulders. "Sure, I go for a run, do grocery shopping, clean my apartment."

He flinches. "That's not fun, that's just a different type of work."

She narrows her eyes on her plate. She knows she's not… Lanie has told her multiple times how she needs to go out more and do more fun stuff. When she doesn't answer him she hears him gulp a bit before taking a deep breath.

"Well, then I guess we have a whole day to correct that," he says with an enthusiasm she's still not used to and she looks up with horror in her eyes.

She thought they could just keep spending time in her bed, or on the couch… or on the counter, because she never imagined he would want to do anything else together. She should've known she was wrong. That glimpse in his eyes every time he touched her, every time they had sex.

"No, we don't need to do that," she says and he just nods, determined.

"Yes, we do. I promise you'll enjoy it," he says and she groans.

"No I won't."

But she did. Every single minute of the day. He'd eventually gone with the zoo, after plenty of suggestions he'd noticed the zoo was what she was least against. At first she'd been very keen at keeping her distance to him when they were in public. But the more time went, the closer to him she got, especially since he kept brushing his fingers on her back, teasing her hand by brushing his fingers there too. One of those times of his fingers brushing his she'd grabbed a hold of him, intertwining their fingers together without even realizing it until they'd been walking around for so long it was time to get some food.

Now, standing in front of her favorite animal, she's amazed by how great of a day she's had. She hasn't had this fun in ages, hasn't had this much fun since her mom died. She lets go of a sigh.

"What's wrong?" he asks and she shakes her head.

"Nothing," she says and knows he can read right through her. "Aren't they beautiful," she more states than asks.

She can feel him observe her a few more seconds before he follows her gaze to the big animal.

"Yeah, they are," he agrees and she smiles.

"Did you know their trunks are more similar to our tongue than any other muscle we have?" she asks and he shakes his head. "Also, they have empathy for each other which means they celebrate the birth of a newborn and mourn their dead." Her voice trembles a bit at the end, her voice dying at the end of the sentence as her mind starts to wander to who she's mourning.

To her surprise he's not asking. His hand just lands on top of her own, and he squeezes a little to let her know he's here. And it somehow brings her comfort, tremendous more comfort than she thought it would. She closes her eyes and takes a few deep breaths. They simply stand there for a while, she has a feeling he's letting her deal with her emotions at the same time as he's showing she's there if she needs, or wants, his help. She doesn't.

"Come on, it's getting late," she eventually says, turning her hand in order to grab his.

Without hesitation he follows her when she pulls him with her towards the exit. Once they're outside of the zoo he's the one to pull her towards a park and when she looks at him with question he just shrugs with that smile of his.

"Don't want the day to end," he says and she feels her cheeks blush again. Neither does she.

They stroll around in a park, hand in hand, and she's pleased to see the sun set in the horizon, behind the buildings around the park. When they stand by a lake, watching how the water reflects the colorful sky, she finds him staring at her again. Once again observing her as if she's the only one there, as if there's not a whole bunch of other people passing them by on their way home. It scares her how easily she forgets there's other people around them, how easily she finds him forgetting there's other people there.

"We should probably head home, I have work in the morning," she states as the darkness starts to take over the sky.

She turns to him when she feels his hand leave hers, she's surprised when his hands land on her hips to pull her closer. His lips are claiming hers before she can ask what he's doing and she feels her lips tingle almost immediately. She lets her arms go around his neck as she kisses him back, her tongue slightly brushing his lower lip to ask permission. When their tongues meet her fingers are playing with his hair, his taste filling her mouth makes her knees go weak and she knows he can feel it because his grip tightens on her hips to help her stay up. It's when she hears someone talk on the phone that she remembers where they are.

"Mm, people," she mumbles into his mouth as she pulls away, pulling her hands from his hair in order to push his hands away from her hips.

"Right," he mumbles as he, too, pulls away. "Let's go home."
