She's not sure what happened. One second she was standing outside of his door, the next she was tumbling into his bed with his hands all over her body. She's pretty sure there's a trail of their clothes leading from the living room straight into his bedroom. She still can't believe she's feeling his skin against hers, even as they're just coming down from another high. She can't help but cuddle closer into him, her nose going into the crook of his neck to suck in the scent of him. Her eyes start to fill up with water and she knows she's pathetic but her arms fall around him to hold onto him better. She's just missed him so much.
"Are you okay?" he asks all of a sudden and she hides her face in the crook of his neck. He's quiet for a second, giving her the opportunity to answer, but when she doesn't he's voicing the silence. "I can feel your tears, Kate. I'm sorry I dragged you in here, I shouldn't have. This isn't all I want it to be, I can't have that this is all it is."
"It's not, and it scares me," she whispers under her breath and she's not sure he can hear her until she feels the arm around her tighten its hug.
"So, you want to date?" he asks and she feels his lips in her hair, she nods. "I need to hear you say it Kate, please."
She takes a shaky breath before she pulls away slightly to be able to look him in the eyes. Those beautiful blue eyes.
"I want to date you, Rick. I-These two months… while I technically don't need you, I don't want to let you go. I felt like... crap. I'm sorry for what I said," she whispers, her eyes avoiding his now, because she can't help but wonder if he's going to push her away any second now.
"Hey," he whispers, his free hand landing to cup her cheek, his thumb stroking her blooming blush. She shuts her eyes at the feel of his caress. "Let's not think of that right now, I just got you back."
She feels his hand guide her closer and she soon feels his forehead against hers, making her take a deep breath, realizing she's been holding her breath. She opens her eyes to look straight into his blues and… there's that glimpse again, that look, that he's been giving her ever since the beginning, and it doesn't take her too long before she's claiming his mouth with hers. God, she's missed his taste. Within no time their tongues are dancing as if they've done this for centuries. Kate feels his body reacting the same as hers is as fingers start to tease again. Silence is filled with moans and gasps. And it's perfect. She never thought she'd see him again, even less that she would feel him again.
They fall asleep in each other's arms, just like they did almost every day months ago. It's the best sleep Kate's had since the breakup, and from the feel of his heavy breathing and hug around her body, he feels the same.
"Richard! I'm home!"
A woman's voice is sounded through the loft and Kate stirs awake with a jerk. She looks to the man beside her, his arm loosely wrapped around her, still sound asleep.
"Rick," she whispers, slightly nudging him.
"Mm, five more minutes," he mumbles in his sleep and she wrinkles her forehead.
When she hears sounds of someone moving she panics.
"Castle!" she hisses and when he isn't reacting she punches his chest.
"What?" he asks as she pushes his arm off of her.
"Someone's home," she hisses as she's trying to find her clothes just to clench her eyes shut with a profanity leaving her lips. The trail. Kate makes a quick decision and goes to his closet to grab one of his boxers and a shirt. She puts them on before she grabs another pair of boxers and throws them at him still in bed. "What are you doing?"
"Watching you," he smirks and she rolls her eyes.
"Richard, are you awake?" the voice is closer and Kate feels her heart beat faster.
"Yes, I'm awake!" he calls out and she wonders if he just now realized they were not alone anymore. "I'll be right out, can you make two coffees? Three if you want one!"
"Oh! Yes, of course," the woman calls back and Kate hears the footsteps fade away from the bedroom again.
The writer puts on the boxers she threw at him and she's not realizing she's holding her breath until he puts a hand on each of her shoulders and softly tells her to breathe. Slowly she's calming down and she leans her head on his chest with a heavy sigh. He chuckles.
"Why the panic? You've met my mother before, we've been closer to exposure before," he adds and she shakes her head as she chuckles at the memories.
"Yeah, but I didn't recognize her voice at first, I just heard it was a woman," she admits and he hums.
"And so you immediately thought… I haven't been with anyone since we…" he indicates them splitting but isn't saying it.
"Me neither," she says and sees his lips turn up in a smile.
"Good." He smiles that crooked smile she likes too much and she can't help but stand on her toes to kiss it.
When her heels land back onto the ground his head follows to keep their lips connected and she moans when his tongue brushes past her lower lip, she's quick to open up and let their tongues meet in that familiar dance they do.
"Coffee's almost ready!"
She breaks away from him faster than lightning when she hears his mother's voice again and shakes her head while he just chuckles.
"Come on, let's get you back in the family," he says before he goes to his closet and pulls out a pair of shorts to throw to her.
She catches them and puts them on as he's putting on clothes on his own. It will feel weird to let someone other than him see her in his clothes but she's figuring at least this is better than that time when all she had around her was the sheets from his bed when his mother had walked in on them coming down from their high.
"Oh thank goodness it's you Katherine! I've missed you so much darling," Martha embraces her the second they set foot in the living area and Kate's surprise must be visible on her face because the writer smiles greatly at her with that teasing glimpse in his eyes.
"Uh-hi, Martha," she says as she hugs the woman back.
"I should've known though, I mean it's obviously your blouse," she says as they let go of each other and Kate feels her cheeks blush. "Speaking of the clothes, I put them in the washer, figured you didn't want Alexis walking in on the mess you made. Can't believe I missed it on my way inside."
"Mother," Castle warns her and Kate feels her blush deepen.
"I-sorry Martha," Kate starts to say but the redhead just waves her hands in dismissal.
"Don't be, you were all alone, plus it's nothing I haven't seen or done myself before so."
"Mother!" Castle says with a disgusted face and Kate can't stop the laughter from leaving her lips. She doesn't think she's ever seen that look on his face before and it's pretty amusing. "Don't laugh," he says to her and she shuts her mouth.
"I'm not laughing," she says while clearly chuckling and he groans.
"Oh, stop it darling, drink your coffee," Martha waves her hand again in the direction of her son which only has Kate turning away in her attempt not to laugh.
She'll never get used to the dramatic flare that is his mother, then again she is an actress. Castle shivers and goes to take the two cups, offering one of them to Kate and she accepts it, quickly taking a sip of the good beverage. When the sip warms her throat she suddenly realizes something. She's late.
"Oh no," she says as she's looking around to try and see if she happened to let her phone fall to the floor yesterday. She quickly walks to the front door to inspect the bureau to see if she put it there. Shit. Before she can run into his bedroom again his hand lands on her arm, stopping her.
"What are you looking for?"
"My phone, I'm late. I'm on shift. I have a case, damnit," she curses and she sees the situation dawn on him.
The two quickly walk into his bedroom and when they can't find it with the first glance he's picking up his own to call it. They both turn around simultaneously at the vibrating sound coming from his office and she wonders what the hell it's doing there. Did she drop it? She runs towards the sound to find it on the floor by his desk.
"Well, that explains it. You probably dropped it when we…" he starts but the glance she gives him shuts him up. She doesn't need his mother to hear exactly what they did.
He just smirks and she rolls her eyes. Though he definitely has something to smirk about. She shakes off the sudden arousal going through her veins and focuses on her phone. There's a few missed calls and a few texts and she can't help but wonder how the hell did she miss this?!
"Oh god," she breathes out as she's quickly skimming through them.
"Wha…"
She shushes him and decides to call back to one of her brothers.
"Hey, Beckett! Where you at? Montgomery's been asking about where you are for an hour now and we're running out of excuses!" Ryan hisses into the phone and she suspects he's at his desk, Montgomery or someone else pretty close by.
"I'm so sorry Ryan, I completely overslept and left my phone on vibrate in my kitchen, I'll be there as fast as I can!" she lies with ease, having trained too much with all the times she's told them about her being at home and not still at the precinct.
"Don't bother, just meet us at the victim's apartment. There's something you should see, I'll text you the address," Ryan says and Kate thanks him.
"So where to?" Castle asks when she's hung up and she looks at him. "Oh, come on, I can come back now. Please," he begs and she clenches her fingers into a fist.
"I-fine, I don't have time to argue. I need to go to my apartment, get some new clothes," she states and starts to go away.
But before she makes it out of his office his hand lands on her arm to stop her.
"You know…" he drags it out, as if he's ashamed of something. "You might not need to go there."
She eyes him suspiciously and his cheeks turn a shade of pink. "Why?"
"I can't believe you kept these," Kate says as they're riding the cab towards the victim's apartment.
"Well, it's not like I could go and give them back," he shrugs his shoulders. "Plus, I like the way they smell."
She narrows her eyes at him and he blushes even more. He had kept one of her shirts and pants from a time when she slept over. She now vaguely remembers a time when she had packed an overnight back and now she wonders if these were the clothes she'd had on when she got there, and they'd gotten lost in their… activities, or if she'd asked him to wash them before getting them back. The only thing missing was panties, but she guess she should be glad those hadn't been in his possession, so she continued to borrow his boxers and put on the bra that had been on his bedroom floor and therefore hadn't been thrown in the washer by Martha. She'd had panties there as well but those had been… compromised too much to not remind her way too much about what they did last night. She couldn't think of them while doing her work. Though wearing a pair of his boxers wasn't exactly helping either.
"Castle? What are you doing here?" Ryan asks the second they come through the door and before anyone can say anything Espo is peeking out to see if he heard his partner right.
"So, that's why you're late," the latino says and Kate gives him a death glare.
"Just shut up, it's not. I found him lurking outside," she says and both her brothers snort.
"Yeah, right."
Kate rolls her eyes before she commands them to focus on the case, that she needs to know what she's missed, and they all jump into the case instead.
