Ch 30
Upon opening the doors Lan Zhan almost lost his trademark blank look once again. There were three men in the room all armed with spiritual swords. They were obviously cultivators. Two of the men glanced sideways at him from either side of the room while the third stood with his back to him, looking out the window. But what threatened to break Lan Zhan's composure was the outfit's all the men where wearing. All three men were wearing the colour of the Wen Sect! However all the high level Wen's had already been destroyed by the Sunshot campaign, yet it was clear from the high level of the sword carried by the third man that he was a high level cultivator.
Lan Zhan gripped Bichen in his hand and stepped forwards into the room, shutting the doors behind him with a deliberate loud noise. As Lan Zhan stood silently the third man began to laugh while still facing the window. The sound was filled with humour and happiness as if he was sharing a joke with a friend.
'Are you trying to intimidate me HanGuang Jun' The man said in such an amused tone Lan Zhan's grip on Bichen tightened. The man still stared out the window as he continued, almost as if Lan Zhan wasn't worth his attention. 'You forget I called you here not the other way around'
Lan Zhan's eyebrows raised slightly. No one had used this taunting tone to speak to him before, well no one but Wei Ying anyway. But Wei Ying's teasing had always been playful, this man's tone had an edge to it as if he were pleased with a secret and wanted him to ask. Right now Lan Zhan really wasn't in the mood right now wasn't in the mood to put up with such a man. He needed to go find Wei Ying and apologise for the night before, his temper already was on edge. He silently turned, but as his hand touched the door to exit the smug voice sounded again.
'I guess you don't want to find your junior disciple then? Or the Young Mistress Jin?'
Lan Zhan's hand froze where it hung in the air. The sound of laughter was once again behind him.
Forcing himself to turn round and face once again into the room, this time though the other man had turned around and he found himself looking into another pair of eyes staring straight at him. The grin the man had on his face looked as smug as his voice sounded and Lan Zhan fought to keep his internal feelings off of his face. The man's grin widened even more as he meandered round the table as if he had all the time in the world.
'Both your special junior disciple and the Young Mistress Jin are in my care'. The man spoke happily as Lan Zhan fought the strong urge to wipe the smile off his face. 'They are my guests for a while…...of course how long depends on you HanGuang Jun'
Lan Zhan tried hard to look bored as he spoke, which was harder than he thought as he was already emotionally unbalanced when he entered the room and somthing about this man just completely annoyed him.
'Young Mistress Jin is married to the heir of the Jin clan. You harm her you will just cause one of the most powerful Sects to become your enemy. As for the junior disciple, harm him and my brother will not allow you to go either.'
The man tipped his head back and roared with laughter, making Lan Zhan wonder if the man was actually quite sane.
'I said it all depends on YOU HanGuang Jun' The man responded once he got his breath back. 'not the Jin Sect and not your brother. It will all be your choice what happens next'
When Lan Zhan just raised his eyebrows in response the man's happy smile turned vicious and his eyes widened, almost looking wild. He obviously wasn't happy with the lack of response he was getting from Lan Zhan.
'You will have the choice HanGuang Jun' The man continued as if determined to get the response he wanted, or maybe he just liked hearing himself talk. 'You can save one or the other. However which ever one you don't choose we keep! SO think carefully!'
'I don't believe you' Lan Zhan managed to grate out without showing too much of his emotional turmoil.
'You will do tomorrow' The man said as he motioned for the other two men to leave the room. 'I will come back to take you to them so I can personally see the face of the person you choose to abandon'
With that the three men left the room. Lan Zhan managed to keep a leash on his temper for a few moments to make sure they had already left the inn before he slammed his fist down onto the table. Days of frustration, uncertainty, need and now fear went into that punch as it split the solid table clean in half. However it still didn't make him feel any better. If the unknown man was right Wei Ying and his sister had been captured while he was aimlessly wandering around the town feeling sorry for himself. The knuckles of his other hand where white were it gripped Bichen. Just how many times can I fail him? He thought to himself sadly as he lashed out again, this time at a solid wood pedestal holding a vase.
By the time Lan Zhan walked out of the room an hour later it had been completely destroyed by simple rage and temper. He hadn't used any spiritual power at all, it had felt good to feel things cracking under his knuckles and send things flying about the room to vent his anger. The inn keeper stood at the door though with a look of horror on his face. Lan Zhan wasn't sure if it was at the warzone he had left in the room or at the look he was sure he must have on his face. People were used to HanGuang Jun being unemotional and unresponsive, not destroying rooms and having a face like thunder. Not trusting himself to speak he simply dropped enough money in the inn keepers palm to cover any costs and made his way up to his room.
The room still smelled like sex and arousal. Of the night before that he couldn't remember, which threatened to snap his self control once again. The breakfast he had left for Wei Ying that morning was untouched and still on the table, its presence seemed to taunt him. Slamming Bichen down on the floor, with more force than care, he gracelessly collapsed on the cushion by the side of the table. The physical and mental exhaustion from the past few days finally catching up with him after his emotional outburst eventually finding its way out through the tears that started to slip down his cheeks. He had to find some way to save Wei Ying, but he had no idea where he was. That left only one idea. Wait for the man to come back again tomorrow and use him to find the man he wanted.
Wei Ying wasn't sure what time it was when YanLi finally began to stir. Her groans were the first signs of her waking up as she tried to move her hands to nurse her headache. Luckily the guard outside was paying no attention to them at all so he managed to move over to her and touch her forehead gently.
'Sister' he whispered 'Sister your ok, you got drugged and are just waking up from it'
YanLi opened her eyes slowly and looked at him. Her eyes seemed to clear, focusing on his face.
'A-Xian' She said. It was more of an identification than anything else but it was a little loud.
'Shhhh sister' Wei Ying whispered a little urgently 'They don't know who I am, they still think I'm a low power Gusu Disciple. I want them to keep thinking that for the time being.'
YanLi had always been smart and seemed to understand the reasons immediately. She tried to nod her head but winced instead.
'What do I call you then?' she whispered back.
Wei Ying thought for a moment. He had known he couldn't use his own name but had never thought of one to use in case he needed one. Suddenly one flashed into his head and he smiled before whispering back.
'Yuan... sister….call me Lan Yuan'
YanLi looked curiously at the smile on his face and added.
'One day you will have to tell me why you are smiling at that name'
Before Wei Ying could respond the guard finally noticed they both were awake. Wei Ying's disguise of being asleep could no longer be maintained now his sister was awake. The guard looked down at both of them before letting out a loud huff and turning away. A moment later he returned with two bowls of liquid.
'Drink up!' he said to Wei Ying, holding the bowl to his mouth.
Wei Ying did so obediently and then nodded to YanLi to do the same. He didn't want this man touching his sister let alone forcing anything on her. The man seemed pleased and left the cell once more, this time leaving the door open. Once again returning in moments, this time with a few bowls of food and water. Placing the bowls on the floor he came up and untied Wei Ying's hands. Wei Ying moved his wrists slightly trying to get the feeling back in his wrists, but just as the man reached for YanLi she shrank away.
'I will do it' Wei Ying said, trying not to shout out what he really wanted to say which was 'get the hell away from my sister'
The man stood up and laughed before giving Wei Ying a solid kick in the stomach. It was supposed to hurt more than it did but Wei Ying played along, lying on the stone floor looking up at the jailer standing over him. He could see YanLi's face harden at the abuse he was suffering but gave a slight shake of his head in her direction, once again wondering what he done in his past lives to deserve such a sister.
'Young Master Cutsleeve finally desires to behave like a real man does he' the man sneered as he delivered another kick. This time Wei Ying did wince, but not because of the kick. Because this time his sister was awake to hear the remarks about himself and Lan Zhan. He didn't know what she would think of him after she found out the truth. The jailer simply huffed and turned back to the cell door. 'Fine you untie her' he spoke as he was leaving. 'Oh and Young Mistress, don't worry about sharing a cell with him. The man isn't a real man so your perfectly safe.'
If the Jailer had looked back while he was clanging closed the cell door, or taking his five attempts to lock the padlock, he would have seen the almost murderous look appearing on YanLi's face. When the jailer disapered from view Wei Ying made his way over to YanLi and untied her hands. As she slowly sat up he noticed the tears rimming her eyes and fixed set of her mouth. He knew this look. It didn't bode well for whoever it was aimed at. Kneeling back he looked at the floor waiting for the damning judgment. Instead he felt a gentle hand on top of his head, fingers gently running through his hair.
'A-Xian look at me' came the gentle but commanding voice. Wei Ying couldn't help but look up. YanLi's face hadn't lost it's angry look. 'He called you a cutsleeve…...is that true?'
Wei Ying could only nod.
'I didn't want you to find out like this….I…' He fell silent, for once at loss for words.
YanLi looked at him with that looked that seemed to see into his soul. Making him want to crawl away and hide in a corner, anything to get away from that look.
'Didn't want me to find out like this…...or didn't want me to find out?' she asked gently. Wei Ying couldn't say anything. After a moment she sighed and continued. 'Two questions for you A-Xian, One, I asked before if you were happy A-Xian, you said yes…..was that true too? And Two, did anyone force you?.' The second question was asked with an almost deadly whisper.
Wei Ying was astonished with the change of topic and didn't know whether to nod or shake his head in response. Instead he just stared at his sister wondering where the gentle girl he had grown up with had vanished to, and how on earth he had managed to get onto the topic of his sex life with his married sister in a jail cell!.
Realising she was still looking at him expecting an answer he could only look down, unable to look her in the eye as he spoke about something so private.
'Yes sister I'm happy and no he would never force me to do anything...It's just...two men together...I didn't know...' He couldn't finish and just looked at the floor in silence.
'I admit I knew Young Master Lan saw you differently from the others that why I sent him the note…...but I never thought you two would…' she paused 'It doesn't matter to me who you are happy with, as long as you are happy I'm content.' YanLi smiled down at him, sweetly lifting his chin so he looked at her. Then her face hardened again as she looked in the direction of the cell door. 'However they have no right to talk down to you because of it. I don't care who they think you are, your my brother!'
With a slight giggle of pure relief Wei Ying rested his hand on her arm and soothed.
'Sister its ok. Let them think I'm some powerless disciple. They will get a more of a shock that way.'
YanLi just looked down at him. Saw the wide grin on his face and returned it with one of her own 'Always finding mischief' she muttered to herself as she moved over to the bowls of food and offered one to him. Despite the surroundings they both found themselves having an enjoyable meal with the companionship of a close loved one, and both wore smiles on their faces while they ate.
Just as Wei Ying thought, the food was laced with yet more drugs and it wasn't long before his vision began to blur and his head ached. While he was still able to function normally without throwing up he helped YanLi over to a corner of the cell away from the door. At least there she would be as safe as possible when she passed out. Placing himself between her and the cell door he laid down and rested his head on his arms closing his eyes. Waiting for the pounding in his head to fade.
