A New Master

Well, after all my years living in these woods, it looks like the Rockjoint will finally be the end of me. I guess that's fine. All my friends are long dead. The only one left is poor Meeko. He was always a loyal companion, and I know he'll be able to take care of himself. I hope someday I'll see him again.

Final Journal Entry of Meeko's Dead Owner

Meeko whimpered sadly as he rested his chin on the bed his master laid on. The Nord weakly reached his swollen hand to pet Meeko's head despite the constant pain from Rockjoint. Meeko and his master had been together for two years ever since he found him as a puppy and have been together since. Just a month ago his master was up and about and not swollen at all. A pack of wolves had attacked them last month and they barely managed to survive, but they drove them out. Unfortunately, his master got bit by one of them and things took a turn for the ditch from there. First it was the swelling that started on his master's leg and spread, then a few days ago he noticed that his master was hurting whenever he moved. Meeko watched helplessly as his companion deteriorated. Tonight, was his last night. Tonight, they say goodbye.

"Good boy Meeko, may we meet again in Sovngarde," Meeko's master told him.

The Nord's hand went slack, and his eyes closed for one last time. Meeko's master was gone.

Meeko barked at him three times, but no response. Meeko whimpered and nudged at him. Still no response. Whimpering, Meeko ran out of the shack, threw his head back, and let out a loud mournful howl.

It had been a week since his master had passed away and it was the longest week of the dog's life. What is he supposed to do now that his only companion is gone? It was as if a piece of his soul had been ripped away. He still heads to a nearby water source to get some water and the occasional fish for food. Speaking of food, he still hunts small creatures for food. None of it is the same with his companion no longer beside him. At night he cuddles with the lifeless body of his master. Some nights he wished his master would wake up and that all of this is a cruel dream. It never happened and cold hard reality sets in. But all of that will change though.

One day he was resting on the road when he heard three voices coming closer to his vicinity. He woke up and saw the source of the voices. Two male Khajiits and a male Imperial making their way towards his direction.

One of the Khajiits has blue fur, white stripes, orange eyes, dark blue hair, and sideburns as well as scars on his face. He was wearing studded armor, a leather helmet, Elven boots, and gauntlets. He carries an ebony bow on his back and an ebony sword on his belt. Also on his belt is a jar with a dragonfly in it.

The Imperial has brown eyes, dark hair and a soul patch. He was wearing some mage robes and was carrying a staff.

The second Khajiit appeared to be the leader of the two and is taller than the both of them. He resembles a tiger complete with orange and white fur with black stripes. He has three scars on his face, black hair in the form of a mohawk, and earrings on both ears. He has heterochromia as his eyes are two different colors. His right eye is blue, and his left eye is red. He is wearing footwraps, a silver ring, silver necklace, and fur armor that revealed his muscular upper torso. He carries an iron battleaxe on his back and some iron arrows.

The tiger Khajiit ordered his two friends to stop upon seeing Meeko.

"What is a dog doing out here on the road?" the Imperial asked

Meeko approached the tiger Khajiit and nudged him to follow him to the shack.

"Tigre my friend, I think the doggy is trying to tell us something," the blue Khajiit said

"Inigo, Marcurio let's follow him and see whats wrong," the tiger Khajiit identified as Tigre said

The three of them follow Meeko into the shack where they see the body of his deceased master lying on the bed. Meeko nudged at the body whimpering.

"You lost your owner, didn't you?" Tigre put two and two together

"Guys there's a journal." Marcurio pointed at the journal on the nightstand.

Tigre picked up the journal and read the entry. He flattened his ears in sadness and sympathy for Meeko. He showed it to Inigo and Marcurio, they both also felt sadness and sympathy for Meeko.

One hour later the three of them buried Meeko's deceased master behind the shack with a makeshift grave marker. One of Marcurio's parents was a priest of Arkay so he gave the Nord his last rites.

Now the three of them have to figure out what to do with Meeko.

"We can't just leave him here," said Inigo

Tigre approached Meeko, knelt right beside the dog, and patted his head.

"Hey boy, I know you lost your friend, but how would you feel about coming with my friends and I?" Tigre offered

Meeko perked up, happy and tail wagging. He has a new master. Meeko happily licked the khajiit's face. Tigre starts to laugh.

"Okay, okay Meeko, easy there boy," said Tigre laughing

Meeko stopped his relentless licking assault to allow the Khajiit to catch his breath.

"I think I'll take that as a yes," said Tigre

The two of them walked out to the front of the shack where Inigo and Marcurio were waiting for them.

"Let's go guys, we have a new four-legged friend with us," said Tigre

The four of them leave the shack and head off for whatever the next adventure awaited them. As they leave the ghost of Meeko's former master appeared in the doorway of the shack with a message for the Khajiit who took in his companion.

"Take good care of Meeko Dovahkiin."

The End

Author's Note: My Dragonborn Tigre Pantheros is my first Dragonborn that I played with on Xbox 360, I had since gotten Skyrim SE on Xbox One and PC and gave him a revival on PC. The character Inigo is from a mod that I play with. If you play Skyrim SE on all platforms, I recommend the Inigo mod across the board.
