Chapter 9

Nanako's POV

To cut a long story short, we ended up spending another two nights at Ouran while we planned how we were going to get out of the school in one piece. We finally managed to decide upon our first location, which was Haruhi's apartment. Now hear me out, I know what you are thinking… why Haruhi's apartment? Well let me tell you why… Haruhi lived on the second floor of the apartment building and the apartment was small, secure and honestly? I think Haruhi needed to make sure her dad was okay so we all agreed to go to Haruhi's first, maybe spend the night there and then move onwards.

It was only when we were about to leave did it become somewhat of a small issue… how were 14 people going to get around without getting attacked. We were a huge target for the undead and it wasn't a short walk to Haruhi's.

"We need a vehicle… can anyone drive?" I looked around the group, hoping someone could drive.

"I can" Nakamura raised his hand but he was the only one.

"Great… okay so only one of us can drive…" I rubbed my face "Kyoya… are there any vehicles that will hold all of us?"

"I'm not sure…" he moved to his laptop.

In the three days we had been stuck here, he'd managed to hack into the school system so he could view the security cameras and honestly, it didn't even surprise me that he had the ability to do it.

"Well… I could always take Yamada on the back of my motorbike?" Ritsu spoke up "though it means we still have to find something to fit 12 people…"

"Well… we've been thinking…" Naoko spoke up "we don't mean to split the group but… me and Izumi? We'd feel safer staying here…"

"Really?" I turned to look at her "you two want to stay here? We have no idea how much longer the school will be safe…"

"Well with two of us, we shouldn't draw all that much attention" Izumi nodded "and anyway, if things get hairy, two people escaping is better than a whole group… besides, we'll keep one of the radio's here so we can keep in contact"

"Kyoya?" I wanted to hear his thoughts on things.

"Like you said in the beginning Nanako… we can't force people to stay with us… if they want to take their chances here, we can't stop them" he shrugged

"You're right…" I turned to Izumi and Naoko "well if you two want to stay… I wish you all the luck in the world"

"We'd like to stay too" Majima raised his hand "me and Tanaka-senpai… we uh… we want to stay too"

"Really?" I sighed, realising our group was breaking up "well, okay all the best to you…"

We were down from fourteen to ten but I had a feeling we'd still have an issue finding something big enough to hold all of us. Even if I did ride on the back of Ritsu's bike, they'd still have to find a car to fit eight people into.

"If they are staying… then so am I" Nakamura bit his lip "I'm sorry but… you guys seem like a tight group and I'd just feel in the way…"

Great. So now we'd lost our only group member that could drive. I was internally screaming right now. We'd also have to find a way to split the radios up because whichever way you swung this, seven radios wouldn't split fairly between the two groups.

"Well, we'll leave you two radios… There are some radios on campus somewhere that you guys can go hunt down if you need more" Kyoya took two of the radios from the bag they'd been packed into, along with one of the charging blocks that could charge two radios at a time.

"Thanks" Nakamura smiled "we wish you guys all the luck… and hey, if you need to, you can come back here"

"I'm sure we'll end up back here sometime senpai" I smiled softly.

Normal POV

With the supplies split fairly between the now two groups, the host club plus Ritsu and Nanako made their way down to the parking lot. Although their only licensed driver had decided to stay behind, it had come to light that Mori had been taking driving lessons for a while now and felt confident enough to drive them around, providing they could find something big enough.

Their footsteps echoed softly as they walked down the corridor towards the faculty lounge as Kyoya had pointed out that there were three minibuses parked in the staff parking lot that were usually used to take the sports teams to their events and the keys were usually kept there.

"Why is the school so empty?" Nanako whispered to Kyoya.

Only two days ago zombies had been wandering around the school aimlessly and even the day before they'd had a close call with some zombies loitering just past the barricade outside the music room… but now? Now there didn't seem to be any hanging around… either they'd ambled off in search of fresh meat or there were other people in the school that had been taking them out.

That second point came to mind for Nanako when she realised the dead guy they'd come across on their first run to the faculty office was gone. Either he'd turned and was ambling around with his guts all hanging out or someone was cleaning up the messes. Either way, they weren't going to be staying long enough to find out. All they had to do was get the keys to one of the minibuses and they could get out of there.

Reaching the faculty office, Ritsu moved to open the door, yet he found it to be locked.

"Uh… Yamada, did you lock the door after we left?" he looked over his shoulder.

"No? I just shut it… maybe it's stuck?" she moved forward and gave the door a tug… it was definitely locked, she could hear the lock rattle.

Stepping back from the door, she rummaged in her bag and pulled out the ring of keys she'd swiped from the faculty office last time and sifted through the keys until she found the faculty office key.

"So if it's locked… who locked it?" Honey asked, looking at Mori who shrugged.

"My guess is… there is somebody else in the school besides us and the guys upstairs" Ritsu looked around.

"I feared this was the case" Kyoya spoke up.

"I'm sorry what?" Nanako raised a brow at Kyoya "care to explain?"

"Well when I checked the security cameras yesterday morning, one of them had moved… instead of pointing down this corridor, it was shifted to point at the wall" he paused for a moment "and then last night when I was on night watch, I thought I saw a flashlight pointing down the corridor to the dining hall but it happened so quickly I wasn't sure if I imagined it or not"

"Ohhh and so you chose now to tell us?" Hikaru spoke up

"Yeah Kyoya-senpai, why now?" Kaoru eyed Kyoya, waiting for an answer.

"I didn't want to say anything and be wrong" Kyoya defended his choice to stay silent.

"Right well, I say we go in, get the keys and leave" Nanako slid the key into the lock and turned it until it clicked, unlocking the door. "Before we bump into anyone else…"

Nanako moved across the room, noting that someone else had clearly been here, as she distinctly remembered there being papers strewn about the place and now it somehow seemed tidier. When she reached the board where the keys were all meant to be hanging… there were none.

"Shit" Ritsu groaned from behind her "someone has already taken all the keys"

"Well that certainly puts a wrench into our plans" she hung her head.

"You don't say" Kyoya sighed.

The group all stared at where the keys should have been until someone spoke up from behind them.

"You know you could just ask for the keys instead of sneaking around like thieves in the night"
