Looking Crazy, Looking Wrong
Summary: A surprise guest shows up at Josslyn's dorm. Part one of a series. Second part will include Sprina and Caoss' date.
Josslyn sighed as she sat on her bed and brushed out her damp hair, still dressed in her fluffy blue robe. It had been an exhausting day seeing as she and Trina had just moved into their dorm room. Most of it had been spent putting their things away and decorating their areas of the room to their particular style. All she wanted was to take a nap, but not before going to get something to eat with Cam who she had plans to meet an hour from now. Just then, a knock sounded on the door and her brow furrowed, wondering if Trina had forgotten her keycard to their room until she remembered the girl was at the gallery. Standing to her feet, she walked to the door and swung it open only to see Esme standing there, looking every ounce of high fashion model and boarding school royalty. Rolling her eyes, Josslyn scoffed. "What are you doing here and how did you even know what my room number was?" Her arms crossed under her chest as she stood her ground.
Esme took that as an invitation to come inside and did so without hesitation, shutting the door behind her. A blinding smile painted her face and her straight, white teeth flashed. "I just figured you and I could get to know each other. We haven't gotten the chance to really talk."
Growling, Josslyn fixed the brunette with a glare. "That's because I don't trust you, honey." She spat the pet name out like venom, hands clenching into fists, nails digging into her palms. She paid no attention to the pain however, too focused on her anger.
Still though, Esme kept that soft, sweet look on her undoubtedly pretty face and stepped closer to Josslyn, laying a gentle hand on her arm. "You know, I'm really not your enemy, Josslyn. I know you may be angry because of your loyalty to Trina and I can get that. After all, she is your best friend. It's admirable, really. I've never had a friend like that. But I have to wonder, would Trina be this loyal to you if positions were reversed?" She said the last part with a sympathetic air, drawing her mouth into a frown. "It would be pretty awful to find out that you've given your all to someone but they cannot be bothered to do the same."
The other girl was so close that Josslyn could smell her expensive perfume and count the very faint freckles on her nose. Esme's hand still hadn't left her arm so the blonde cleared her throat uncomfortably and shrugged it off. "Look, Esme, I don't know what you're trying to do, but it's not going to work. I've dealt with someone like you before. I let myself be tricked in and manipulated because I cared for them and thought I owed them. I'm a lot less naive now and I'm not going to let that happen to me again so you might as well stop wasting your time." Her voice was controlled and confident, her blue eyes full of determination as she stood tall.
Esme chuckled at that, stormy eyes lighting up as Josslyn mentioned her past. Of course, she knew all about Nelle Benson. Spence had talked a lot about Josslyn while they were in boarding school. It was clear that her "boyfriend" admired the pretty blonde. Not romantically, but just as a person. She supposed that she could understand that. The fierceness of the other girl certainly made it fun for Esme to bother her, especially since Esme knew from what she'd seen of her and the way Spencer had talked that Josslyn was usually such a golden girl. A loving sister and daughter, an amazing student and athlete, a camp counselor who was really amazing with children, and a very protective and loyal best friend. The side that Esme managed to get out of her was so different from that, though. It was thrilling and that side of Josslyn felt like an equal. Getting into her mind, causing the blonde's soft blue eyes to light up with fire was great entertainment. So far, Spencer was rather boring. He was so desperately wanting his father back in his life that it was rather pathetic. As soon as he'd met Trina and come face to face with his father again, he'd begun to want to shed the side of him that Esme had carefully molded by organizing his anger and his hurt. Being around him was no longer as fun as it had once been. She had just lifted her hand to stroke the other's cheek when there was a beep and the door to the dorm swung open. She stopped herself from giving Trina a death glare when she turned her head slightly to look at her. Then, she turned her attention back to Josslyn. "I'm going to go. Hopefully we can continue this conversation later." With that, she whirled around and walked past Trina, knocking into her shoulder with her own, throwing the girl a smile even as she glared.
"What was that about?" Trina queried, taking note of how on edge Josslyn seemed, something that was uncommon for the blonde.
The girl in question shrugged. "I have no idea." She admitted. "I had just gotten done showering and was in here, brushing my hair so I could get ready to meet up with Cam. That's when I heard a knock on the door. I wondered if you'd forgotten your keycard until I remembered that you were at the gallery, checking on things for Ava. She started talking about how she wasn't my enemy and then tried to get in my head by making me doubt you."
She raised her brow. "Doubt me how?" She asked, gritting her teeth.
Josslyn swallowed hard as she walked over to her bed to grab her brush and place it on her desk. "She talked about how admirable my loyalty to you was, but the asked if you'd be the same if roles were reversed." Noticing the way Trina's eyes darkened, she added in a rush, "I told her that I knew what she was trying to do, but that I had dealt with someone like her before, but I wasn't naive anymore and that she shouldn't be wasting her time. She seemed to like that I said that, though. It's really weird and uncomfortable."
Trina's eyes widened when she saw Josslyn's shaking hands and she stepped forward to take them in her own, rubbing circles into them soothingly. "Joss, do you want me to call Cam and ask if you can postpone meeting him for dinner until tomorrow or something?"
The blonde shook her head emphatically. "No, no. I think meeting up with Cam would take my mind off of this. I just need to get ready. Hopefully he won't be too upset if I'm a few minutes late." She gave Trina a reassuring smile and hugged her, burying her head into her shoulder. "Thank you for caring, though." She said, voice muffled by the soft cotton of the t-shirt the other girl wore. With that, she pulled away and hurried to the closet they shared, pulling out a dress she'd bought recently. She got dressed with a few minutes to spare and said a quick, "See you later." to Trina before she ran from the room to meet her boyfriend in the courtyard.
Chewing her bottom lip worriedly, Trina stared at the door that her best friend had just passed through for a few long seconds before she pulled her phone from her back pocket and called Spencer's number. "You need to meet me." She said, not allowing him to get a word in edgewise. "The two of us need to talk." She gave him her dorm room number and then took a seat on her bed to wait, grabbing her laptop off of her pillow and opening it in an effort to distract herself before Spencer got here. She didn't know what Esme was up to, but she wasn't about to let whatever it was happen. Not to Josslyn.
The End
