An Unusual Encounter To A New Friend

Emma clapped as she watched Leo dance and he finished off with a clean pose, to which she went up to him. "That was great, Leo," she said.

"Thanks, Emma," he said with a smile.

"Ugh, she'd rather hang with the uncool kid than with me, huh?" Asked a voice with a sneer.

Both teens turned to find a young man that was their age and he was dressed in a suit. Emma rolled her eyes. "Back off," she said, turning away from him and going over to Leo, who held out his hand to her.

"Come on, Emma," the blue-eyed boy said. "Let's get some ice cream."

She nodded and was about to take his hand when the snobbish boy grabbed her hand. "No one touches my Emma," he sneered at the blonde-haired boy.

The green-eyed girl glared at him and slapped his wrist hard, making him let go of her in surprise. "Don't touch me," she said, still glaring. "And I'm not yours."

The rich boy glared at her. "You better watch your tone with me, Emma," he said. "My father and your mother have an agreement that we'll be boyfriend and girlfriend."

The girl knew that was a lie. "Yeah, right," she scoffed. "What would the three girls you're dating say to that?"

He looked surprised and Leo smiled, thinking Emma was bluffing and decided to help her out. "Wow, three other girls, dude? Not cool," he said. "You better hope they don't find out."

"Too late," Emma said, pointing across the street. "Here they come."

Three girls, dressed in designer dresses, came up to them and glared at Emma and Leo, but the blonde-haired girl smiled sweetly. "Oh, girls, glad you could come," she said. "Which one of you is this boy's girlfriend?"

"I am," all three girls answered at once before blinking and looking at each other.

Leo then noticed their left hands all had a ring on the ring finger. A diamond ring to be exact. "Which of you did he propose to?" He asked.

"Me," all three answered, blinking again and looking at each other.

"Oh, dear," Emma said. "I think he's played all three of you. He loves to do that. Play a girl and then he dumps her when he gets what he wants or when he gets bored."

The boy glared at them. "Shut up!" He said, lunging for them, but the three girls caught him and glared at him. Seeing this, Emma and Leo took their exit and walked away, the girl sighing softly and the boy sighing softly too.

After a bit, Leo looked at Emma. "You okay, Emma?" He asked.

She nodded. "Yeah," she said. "Thanks for playing along back there."

"I honestly thought you were bluffing until those three girls arrived," he said. "But I just wanted the guy to get off your back."

"Thanks," she said, smiling softly.

Just then, they heard chirping and looked to see what looked like two birds and there was a small one with them. "Oh, look," the girl said in awe. "It's a family."

Leo smiled. "I wonder what kind of birds they are," he said. "I've never seen anything like them before."

Just then, they saw some more creatures in the alleyway and they were all chirping happily. Emma looked up to see they were coming from what looked like an old theater at the end. "I guess they live there," she said, pointing to the building.

"Looks like it," the boy said.

Suddenly, they saw shadows come over them and they turned with surprised gasps to see two very large bird-like creatures looking at them with bright eyes. "Um...I guess these two are the parents?" Leo said a bit in fear.

One of the larger birds chirped and moved closer to Emma, who looked a bit startled before giggling as it rubbed against her side like a cat would. She reached out and petted it, making it nuzzle her hand and chirp happily. "They seem friendly," she said.

The boy reached out a hand and was surprised when the other large bird creature nuzzled his hand. "Guess you're right," he said before gasping as the other smaller birds suddenly came around him and to his shock, they lifted him up in the air before gently depositing him on the larger bird creature, who chirped happily before hovering over the ground and flying gently towards the theater doors. "Whoa," he said.

Emma gasped as she was gently deposited on the other large bird and she held on as they headed for the theater. "Maybe they want to show us their home?" She said.

"Maybe," he said.

They were soon inside the theater and surprisingly, the birds stopped in a large room, allowing the teens to slide down safely to the ground. They looked around the room and were amazed at how large it was. "Wow," Emma said softly before seeing a stage. "Could this be a nightclub?"

"Kinda looks a bit fancy for that," Leo said. "Though maybe it's for club parties, like the parties some rich people like to attend."

"But if that were so, why is it hiding in the end of the alleyway?"

The boy shrugged. "You got a point there," he said before noticing how clean it was. "Still, someone must use this room. It's really clean."

Emma realized he was right before spotting something else. "Leo, look," she said.

On a table that they both had seen was empty before were two mugs that were red and gold in color and there was something inside of it, something that smelled familiar to the two. "Hot chocolate," the boy said before looking at her. "Wait. How did those get there? They weren't there before, were they?"

She shook her head before looking at the creatures that had brought them there, but they had vanished. "Hey, they're gone," she said, gesturing around.

Leo was getting a bit nervous now. "Okay, something's up," he said.

"My, my. Are you two always so suspicious? So suspicious that you'd turn down a tasty treat?"

Both teens whirled around at hearing that deep voice and they saw a tall person in the shadows, his golden eyes seeming to glow a bit as a wide grin was on his face. Leo immediately got in front of Emma protectively as the tall being stepped into the light, his grin and eyes softening a little as they saw he wore a suit that was white and red with gold accents, a dark vest around his waist, and his hat was pulled down over his face so as if it was a fancy mask. His white heeled boots clicked against the floor as he stepped closer to them and they backed up a bit, unsure of him. "Don't be afraid, my dears," he said, his voice soothing as he held up his gloved hands in a placating gesture. "I won't harm you two."

Both didn't look too reassured until one of the creatures that had brought them into the room came in and chirped, to which the tall being smiled and nodded. "You did well, my friend," he said before turning to the two. "This Tim tells me that you two were being bothered by a bully before they met you."

Emma blinked. "How did he know that?" She asked. "And...Tim? Is that his name?"

The tall being chuckled in amusement. "A Tim is a being like this creature and they can be large like this one or even small as a newborn kitten," he explained. "As to how they knew about that boy bullying you, these Tims watch for young ones that need help and guide them here."

Leo blinked at him. "Need help with what?" He asked.

"To sort out whatever is troubling them," the man replied. "Which is where I come in to help the ones the Tims lead here."

The two were quiet before Emma spoke up. "Who are you?" She asked.

"Ah, I was wondering when that question would arise," the tall being chuckled before he gestured them closer. "Come have a seat, my dears. Your hot chocolate is getting cold."

They looked a bit unsure, but then felt someone gently push them from behind and they turned to see who others like the tall man and they gasped. "Don't be alarmed," he said. "They're two of my clones."

Leo looked shocked. "How...?" He asked.

The man chuckled. "Magic, my dear boy," he said as the clones guided the two over to the table and picked up the two teens with ease, surprising them as they were set down gently in the chairs and the man sat down as well, putting the mugs of hot chocolate in front of the two. "There now. As to my name, you may call me Balan."

"Balan?" Emma repeated.

He nodded. "I am the maestro and owner of this theater," he said before chuckling. "I heard you two guessing what this theater was used for and you two were not too far off with your guesses."

"Okay, then what is it used for?" Leo asked.

Balan smiled. "For cheering up young ones like yourselves," he said. "And helping you regain your heart of balance."

"Heart of balance?" Emma asked.

"The very center of yourself where your emotions lie," the tall man said. "Both happiness and sadness must be in balance. I can sense you two are both unhappy about something."

Both teens looked away before jumping as they felt arms come around them and saw Balan was in between them and hugging them. "Come, my dears," he said. "Tell me those fears."

"Why?" Leo asked warily. "Why do you care about two kids you've never met before?"

The tall man chuckled. "Because I can't ignore when young ones like you two need help," he said, playfully poking Leo's ribs, making the boy jump and quickly shield himself with his arms, but a smile came to his face, one that Balan noticed. He then heard Emma giggling and turned to see she was giggling because he was tickling her side with his other hand. "So, come with me, my dears," the tall man continued, standing up and scooping the two up into his arms.

Emma gasped in surprise that he picked them both up with ease. "Um...," she hummed uncertainly, to which Balan chuckled.

"I'm much stronger than I look, Emma," he said.

She looked at him in surprise and he chuckled. "The Tims told me your names," he explained as he noticed Leo looked surprised too.

"Wait, did you tell the Tims to bring us here?" The boy asked suspiciously.

Balan laughed warmly at that before his magic surrounded the boy, making him float before he was upside down and a clone appeared, holding onto the boy's legs to keep him from falling while another clone accepted Emma from the real maestro, who went up to the upside-down boy, who tried to squirm, but the hold on his legs was secure.

"No, the Tims brought you both here on their own," the tall being said. "And now, it's time I gave both of you a good dose of laughter."

Emma was about to ask how when she saw Balan reach for Leo and begin tickling the boy's stomach, to which Leo yelped and squirmed around, but wasn't able to get free as the real maestro paused and helped Leo get upright, holding the boy in his arms as he sat down and moved the boy's shirt up to expose his stomach. The blue-eyed boy yelped as a finger playfully poked his belly button before fingers wiggled all over his exposed stomach, making him laugh more.

"AHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA! STOHOHOHOHOHOHOHOHOP!" He pleaded.

"Cootchie, cootchie, coo!" The maestro said teasingly before the clone removed the boy's shoes and Leo was in stitches as the clone held him while he sat sideways in Balan's lap as the tall being pinned down the boy's legs and tickled his feet and blowing raspberries into the exposed stomach at the same time, making the boy squeal before he went limp. The tickle torture stopped then and Balan chuckled. "Believe me now, Leo?" He asked, ruffling the boy's hair.

The boy looked at him and nodded. "Though, did you have to do that?" He asked.

Balan chuckled, poking the boy's side playfully. "You wish for me to continue?" He asked in a playful tone, to which the boy quickly curled up, making the tall being laugh. "Relax, my boy. I'm just having some harmless fun with you."

Emma giggled before seeing Balan look at her. "I haven't forgotten you, my dear," he said, reaching for her and she was soon in stitches as he tickled her to pieces before letting her up as she let out a few leftover giggles. "Now come. Your journey awaits us."

With that, he led them to the doors to Wonderworld and they went inside out of curiosity and he smiled before the two cups of hot chocolate appeared before them and this time, the kids were less hesitant about accepting them, feeling a bit chilled as the wind blew. "Hmm," Balan said thoughtfully before scooping the two children up in his arms. They both smiled at him, feeling less afraid as he carried them away to where their adventure would begin.

As for Emma and Leo, they were happy to have a new friend.
