The Chemistry In Darkness

Chapter Eighty

Monday 3rd March 2025

It was about half an hour after the sun had risen in the sky. Chloe and Elly had spent an hour together watching the sun rise from the edge of the Island, by the rocks overlooking the ocean around them.

The couple had lovingly spent most of the time making out with one another as opposed to sitting there quietly watching the sun rising.

With the sun in the sky and the couple keen to get back to Aster, Elly and Chloe walked back to the camp hand in hand.

Chloe squeezed Elly's hand, more so to check it had healed after Elly had broken her wrist the other day when the New Moon rendered her powerless, "I can't get over that your wrist was healed within a couple hours of your powers returning the other day. Are you sure the bones in your wrist set in the right place?"

Elly nodded confidently, "Pretty sure. Abby gave my wrist a check over. I'm sure she could book me in for an x-ray at the hospital during our trip over to the mainland for our shopping tomorrow. But y'know that would just take away from our time together when we want to just get the shopping out of the way so we can get to the hotel and we can-"

"Okay, I got it," Chloe giggled, "There's no time to waste when we got places to be. I'll just have to trust that your magical powers healed your wrist like you said they would."

"They did, only took a couple hours. Benefits of been supernatural," Elly confirmed then smiled, "Y'know, I still can't get over that you're totally okay with all things supernatural…me being a werewolf and all."

Chloe entangled their hands tighter, "I do still feel like I need to get used to all the different types of supernatural beings that are out there. It's all such a mystery to me how you all exist and no one knows…well not many people know. What would happen if the wrong person found out?"

Elly sighed, "Nothing good. I don't know enough because compared to the rest of The Pack as I've only been a wolf for a handful of years whereas the others have been…"

"Around for centuries and a millennium," Chloe remembered.

"Abby and Romulus, yes. Clarke ad Raven aren't much younger than us and they've obviously grown up knowing about the supernatural, much like Aster has with me. Lexa was turned a couple years before I was. Abby and Romulus would be the ones to speak to as to what the risk would be of anyone finding out about werewolves. Romulus's job is literally to hide the supernatural world amongst the FBI to stop it getting out by re-directing the department away from us and taking all the supernatural related cases he can. It's a risk anytime anyone finds out about us," Elly explained.

"Was it a risk telling me?" Chloe wondered.

"Yes and no," Elly admitted, "I knew on some level you been my mate meant that you were more than likely to come to terms with accepting me as I am as opposed to running off and alerting the authorities about me. But yes, it was still a risk. Though rare…sometimes the mate bond doesn't overcome anything in the world. There are mate bonds out there in the world that have failed to eventuate because the human has refused to give in to it. Sometimes the supernatural world…is too dangerous for people to be brought into."

"Is that what you thought…these three months you've been out here…that we were one of those rare cases?" Chloe worried.

"Yes," Elly confessed hesitantly, "It's just…thinking the baby was Pierce's…not wanting to break up your family…believing it could take you years to leave Pierce…if you ever could…so yeah…I did spend a lot of my time wondering…if we could ever have…this."

Chloe brought their hands up, kissing the back of Elly's hand, "I'm sorry I made you do all that worrying. All I can say is that it all worked out in the end. You and I together, with our baby on the way, Aster accepting of our family. We've got the unconditional support of The Pack for our relationship and baby…and I hope one day…we can go home and we can…somehow explain this all to my family."

"I don't want to think about the past anymore. All I want to do is focus on our future together as a family with the four of us. I want to be able to tell your family too…I have no idea how we go about that without revealing my…werewolf-ness…and I…do worry about if that's a risk," Elly replied honestly.

"It's a risk," Chloe agreed, "As much as I love my brothers…I don't think they'll understand that there's more to the world than what's right in front of them. I wrote them a letter explaining I was pregnant with someone else's baby and I was leaving to raise the baby with them. If we turn back up…I wish Aaron and Mark could just put two and two together and not ask any further questions."

Elly giggled at the thought, "If I know Mark, he for sure will not be able to put two and two together when it comes to you and I been together and you pregnant with my baby."

"I'm just worried people will disregard you when it comes to been the child's parent because to them it's impossible for us to have the baby together," Chloe sighed.

Elly shrugged, "We'll find a way to explain it to those that need to know. The rest can just stay in their world of thinking you got knocked up by some guy cheating on Pierce and we got back together to raise the baby as our own."

"Why does this have to be so hard?" Chloe asked.

"It won't be because we know the truth and what anyone else thinks or believes, shouldn't affect us," Elly decided.

"You really are the most supportive girlfriend and Mum-to-be," Chloe gushed.

Elly stopped walking, turning to face Chloe whom stopped too. Elly wrapped her right arm around Chloe's waist, placing her left hand on Chloe's stomach, imagining their baby growing up with them, "I love you and our baby so much."

Chloe gazed lovingly into Elly's eyes, "I love you both so much too."

Elly leant forwards, capturing Chloe's lips with her own.

Their romantic moment wasn't private.

Pierce glared at the pair from a hundred meters away where he'd been standing by a bunch of trees. Having landed on the Island ten minutes ago, he found a quiet place in the shade to examine his map of the Island to work out where Elly and her werewolves were likely to have been staying as well as make sure he knew exactly what weapons he was carrying on him, having collected them from his car after finding Lexa at the café, and which would harm a werewolf as much as he wanted.

Pierce hadn't been expecting to stumble across Elly so quickly.

Let alone Chloe.

And Pierce certainly wasn't prepared for the sight of the women together.

Though Pierce had confirmation that Chloe was on the Island, been able to track her via the microchip he'd had her implanted with months ago, and very much had his suspicions that Elly and the rest of the werewolves were living on his Island, he was horrified to find his wife in the arms of someone else.

Let alone Elly.

Chloe's ex-girlfriend for about 5 minutes was holding his wife in her arms.

Elly was kissing his wife passionately.

Elly was touching the baby bump Chloe didn't even have yet.

Chloe had written him a letter to tell Pierce she was pregnant to someone else and had gone to create a family with them. But it couldn't be Elly. Was it about Aster? Had Chloe cheated on him with another man, then not been able to raise a baby with a stranger nor her husband who loved and doted on her because she couldn't live a lie, decided that she could build some fake family with her ex and her ex's kid?

Pierce was enraged.

And Chloe and Elly didn't know the danger they were in.

Chloe and Elly continued holding one another, making out softly with each other, Elly holding her hand against Chloe's stomach, connecting their baby to their love for one another.

Elly's super-hearing and super-smelling powers were defenseless when she was intoxicated by Chloe's beauty. She was lost in every moment with the blonde, tempted to break their kiss, whisper in Chloe's ear how much she wanted to lie down on the beach with her, strips their clothes from each other's bodies and make love to one another for hours on end.

But Elly never got the chance.

As Elly broke the kiss and pressed her lips up Chloe's jawline to Chloe's ear, about to whisper her desire into Chloe's ear, when something in the back of her mind told her to open her eyes.

And when Elly did, she was shocked to see Pierce charging up the beach towards the couple.

Busted…fuck, Pierce looks pissed!

Chloe groaned in lust as she lost contact with Elly's lips but was halted when Elly pulled back and announced, "Pierce?"

Chloe froze, "You're thinking about Pierce right now, Elly, when I want to tell you how badly I need you to make love to me-?"

"He's here," Elly grunted in interruption, more annoyed than ever that Chloe had wanted to make love to her too then and there, but Pierce's arrival wouldn't lead to any sexy times.

Chloe whipped her head around, shocked to find that Pierce had found her so quickly, yet deep down she knew she couldn't escape Pierce forever.

"Get away from her, Chloe!" Pierce yelled out.

Chloe's brain immediately wanted her to tell Pierce that if he was there to win her back then he had no hope, worrying if she should just tell him the baby was Elly's and she would be raising the baby with her.

But as soon as Chloe set eyes on Pierce, she knew she wouldn't have the chance. Elly swiftly stepped in front of Chloe as they both realized the danger they were in when they saw that Pierce was holding a shotgun.

Elly wasn't worried about her safety when it came to a shotgun but she knew she needed to keep her anger in check as she never wanted to wolf out in front of her mate, "Put the gun down, Pierce! You won't win Chloe back this way…any way!"

Pierce didn't care for Elly's threats that he wouldn't get Chloe back. He wanted Elly out of the way for good. If he had lost Chloe forever, Chloe was going to lose Elly so neither of them would get what they want.

When Pierce was fifty meters away from the pair, he stopped running towards them. Within seconds, he had propped the shotgun up so it was aiming at Elly.

Elly was too confident that she could take all the bullets from the shotgun and still get up to her feet to wipe Pierce off the Island in one punch.

It was Chloe that realized something was wrong. She noticed Pierce had two big knives strapped to his hip. The knives glinted in the sunshine, and though she could've mistaken them as steel knives, there was something about them that screamed at Chloe that they were instead silver.

Elly had never gotten around to telling Chloe what would kill a werewolf but Chloe didn't need to be told this one. All lore about werewolves made one thing clear – silver kills werewolves.

Pierce knows Elly is a werewolf!

The thought hit Chloe like a freight train and as Pierce stood there with his finger pressing the shotgun trigger. Chloe knew in an instant she couldn't stand there and allow the love of her life get shot with a weapon only designed to kill her.

Chloe couldn't live without Elly.

As the silver bullet released from the shotgun chamber, directed solely at Elly, Chloe stepped in front of Elly to protect her from certain death.

Forgetting that Elly couldn't live without Chloe…

Or their baby…

Next time - Who dies? Chloe? Elly? ChellyBaby? Pierce?

All of the above? None of the above?
