/so minor update, New Beginnings will now be updated Mondays and Thursdays! Thanks for being patient with my baby! I don't own the song Fireflies Faith hill does and E.L James owns the fifty shades Characters... But the story is mine
Ana slept like a baby as she felt light as air as she opened her eyes. She couldn't help herself though as she thought back to the night before. It was like fate had brought Christian back into her life. What was even better was there was a natural connection between the two and it was like a fire burning one. She couldn't believe how he stayed with her and danced with her; it honestly was like a fairytale. He was almost too good to be true. Ana honestly didn't want to think about it, but a piece of her was scared that she could have jumped in so quickly without thought. But then again, the memory from last night kept playing in her head, a soft smile hit her face.
Dancing with Christian caused her heart to flutter. She'd never felt this special before him. She was so used to the hurt Jose had planted in her heart. It was strange the second Ana and Christian had met on the lake; Ana had wished that she'd see him again if it was meant to be something...then the next day there he was a masked prince charming. Could this be real? "You okay Ms. Steele?" His voice jerked her out of her thoughts. She hadn't realized how much she was staring out the window.
Looking back at him, words seemed to fail her as she stared at him. "Yeah, I'm just checking off a list in my head. Got lost in thought I guess."
Christian looked at her skeptically before lightly squeezing her hand. He could see there was probably more but decided against pushing her. "Well don't get lost to much I need you to tell me where to drop you off." Christian's eyes glistened as he saw Ana blush again. There was something about Ana Steele that sucked him in like no other woman; he just wanted to take his time with her, show her what happiness could be. "How close are we?"
Ana looked at the street names and knew it was about another two minutes before she was standing outside. It brought a frown to her face. "It's the last house on the corner on the right." Taylor just nodded as he focused back on the road. Ana turned to say something to Christian but was stopped by his own quizzical look. "What?"
"You're frowning, what's bothering you?" Christian asked as he tugged at her to get closer to him.
Ana felt the fire from before as she unbuckled and leaned against his body. How was it possible that it took her so long to let Jose in, yet in a matter of two days she was eased into wanting to be as closed to Christian as she could get. "It's going to sound stupid Christian." Christian just stroked her hair; it didn't help her focus at all. "I just... this is all new and stuff and I don't know how to feel. It strange to feel so at peace with a person, but we just met."
Christian understood completely what she was feeling, he himself had been thinking it almost all night. Yet things changed whenever he looked into her eyes. It wasn't like him, none of this was. Yet here he was stroking her hair, reassuring her and himself that this indeed was real. "I know... Trust me this is far from what I expected on my jog, but I've decided to let it be." Christian wished he could tell her his past but decided it would take a little more time of just get comfortable with opening up to someone other than his therapist.
"Why fight it or even try to run, embrace the unknown it's the journey that counts." Ana blushed as the car stopped in front of her house. "Thank you for tonight. Not just helping me clean up, but just being you. You Mr. Grey are a mystery to me."
Christian gave her a side smirk as he helped her grab her extra bag from earlier as well as her purse and mask. He felt like a teen getting back from prom, something he never got a chance to experience because of his issues. But this more than made up for it. "That makes two of us. You are a mystery Ana, not exactly what I would expect. But I'm more than willing to join in the journey."
Ana took one last look at Christian before leaning up to kiss his cheek softly. The simple act caused her own heart to jump, it was unreal how in the time they've known each other she was able to let a wall down ever so easily. "I'll see you tomorrow Christian."
Still stunned by the kiss, Christian nodded slyly. "Tomorrow..."
Sighing she got up out of the bed and headed to the shower, she needed to get up and situated since she had maybe three hours till Kate was dragging her out of the house and up that crazy road. The thought of seeing Christian again, well it made it worth it to go up the crazy confusing road just to hold his hand again. Letting the water wash all the soap and conditioner off her, she had decided in this moment that she wouldn't let Jose or even her past define her current ability to move on. This future she wanted didn't include being captured by her past. Getting out of the shower Ana wrapped her towel around herself and made her way to her bedroom.
Knock Knock
Checking the time, Ana realized she still had two hours until Kate was supposed to be here to pick her up. Quickly Ana changed into Yoga pants and a tank before moving to the door. When she opened the door, she was attacked with a smell of bright flowers. The man holding the flowers handed a piece of paper over to Ana. "If you could just sign really quick and then I can leave these flowers with you." Ana was confused by the flowers but did as requested before taking the large vase inside.
Firefly,
I just wanted to say thank you for last night! I cannot wait to spend the rest of the day with you. The white Camellias, white clovers, Ivys and Morning Glorys are just the symbolism to what you've made me start feeling these last few days. I do hope you allow me to get to know you a bit more as the future goes on. Here is my number in case you ever want to chat or if ever need anything. 206 825 0520.
~Christian Grey
Honestly this was the first time anyone had ever taken the time to make her feel special and currently Christian was wooing her. Ana inhaled the scent and her heart just couldn't stop jumping. The flowers were perfect and lovely, something she couldn't believe that he could do for her. If she was excited before she was extremely excited to see Christian. "OOOOOOOOOOoohhh are those from Christian?" Ana laughed hearing Kate at her door. Kate looked up and down at her best friend as shook her head. "Please god tell me you are not wearing that. Ana, I taught you better."
Rolling her eyes, Ana sat the flowers in the middle of her dining table. Taking a deep breath, she tried to keep herself in the moment of before Kate had arrived. "Yes, I decided to wear yoga pants and this tank top." After locking the door behind Kate, both ladies made their way to Ana's room upstairs. "I'm actually going to be wearing the sundress you got me last year for my birthday."
"Speaking of birthdays, I was thinking this year you and I could take it off and go to New York cause my dad scored us with amazing tickets." Kate smiled as she bounced up on Ana's bed excitedly. "Dad got us tickets for Hamilton on Broadway."
Ana's eyes widened, both Kate and she had been trying for years to get these tickets for months. "You're kidding?!" Ana was shocked by the revelation, she was a closeted Broadway fan, not many people knew it. "They've been sold out, how?"
Kate shrugged as Ana started getting dressed for the day. "He met the actor who plays Aaron Burr one day in La. I was dying when he told me." Kate's dramatic excitement for the first time reflected Ana's happiness. It was one of her dreams to see this play live. "Anywho dad was talking to him as he helped the guy find the studio he was looking for; then proceeded to tell him about his girls being big fans and how we lost out on a chance to go. He handed over four tickets and such so we're going, and dad says if we don't have anyone to go with, he and mom would go with." Kate moved to help zip up Ana's dress, Kate was wildly excited for not just their trip to New York, but now Ana was starting to act like her old self. As Ana stared at herself in the mirror, Kate smiled behind her. "I just love that you truly are getting back to the Ana before Jose. Just promise me you'll be careful; I don't want to see you get hurt again. Maybe this one we won't jump into something so quick."
Ana sat at her desk and just stared at Kate; she didn't know how to explain to her that this wasn't like before. "He isn't like Jose. This is different Kate; Christian is beyond different than he was. He helped me last night, he wasn't pushy; Kate he just wanted to know me. I know I should be taking it easy..." Ana groaned as Kate looked at her skeptically. "I really want to try this Kate. It's the first time I've felt like I could be happy."
Kate wanted her best friend to be happy, but she knew what kind of guy Christian is labeled. "I will always be team Ana no matter what. Now you my friend look amazing so we should probably head out because it's a long drive."
Christian had arrived at his parent's house early due to his mother's request; he knew exactly why. Last night was amazing and better than he could imagine for the night. Ana wasn't like the other women, he instantly noticed that when they were at the lake around her house. The hard part was he knew there were walls she had inside that worried him, he wasn't used to having to woo a woman. Yet, he knew she would be worth it to him, he wanted to make it work for the first time. His one hope was that she could handle everything that came with dating Christian Grey. "You seem off in Neverland son." Christian laughed as his dad and brother Elliot walked down the stairs.
Christian let out a loud groan. Ana had been consuming his thoughts for three days. "You can say that. Last night was a lot, yet mom had me come over earlier than I had expected. I was going to sneak off and do some work before brunch." Christian wasn't exactly lying; Taylor had gotten the background check on Ana and he hadn't gotten around to reading it. He could again see his dad staring at him intensely. "You know how much I hate when people just stare at me. It makes me feel extremely nervous and judged. It isn't a pleasant feeling Carrick."
Elliot walked down the steps behind his dad as his brother shifted uncomfortably. "I'm sorry I missed last night heard it was a wild one."
Christian just rolled his eyes trying to ignore the sting of laughter in Elliot's voice. "It wasn't. Just the usual people." Elliot just rolled his eyes as his brother attempted to downplay everything their sister had already told him. Word was Christian was smitten with a new woman, said the woman was the planner for the event. "It was no big deal." Carrick just rolled his eyes knowing his son, he'd keep his mouth shut, but his son had it written all over his face.
"Not what I heard brother. But I guess I'll just wait until our guest arrives." Elliot teased a bit; he was just giving his brother a hard time. The last thing he wanted to do is piss his brother off. "I'm going to find Mia, She is better at sharing than you are." Elliot laughed before heading off to find his baby sister, she usually would be the best to get an insight into what was going on in Christian's world.
Carrick just shook his head with a beaming smile once Elliot was gone. "You do seem different and I think there's a woman we should all be thanking for that." Arching his eyebrow, Carrick could easily see how nervous he was. It was interesting to see his usually composed son so unwound. Truly never thought the family would see Christian ever truly interested in anyone or anything other than work. "I know you probably don't want to talk about it, but I'm here. You can trust me son."
"I'm good, I promise." Before Christian could say anything else, Grace came downstairs in just a simple dress, her eyes though sparked with such excitement.
Grace searched the room for any additional people, she wouldn't admit it out loud, but she was a little sad that Christian wasn't here with Ana. Anyone watching last night could easily see the chemistry the two had. "So, it's just you?"
"Well, Mia and Elliot are currently drinking coffee by the boathouse. So, there are five of us here, but I'm assuming you mean Ana and Kate?" Christian pinched the bridge of his nose trying to compose himself. He knew that he should've concealed his feelings a bit more, but it honestly was worth it since now she was coming over. "I'm assuming she'll be here around the time you told her to be..." Christian tried his hardest to keep his tone neutral, he didn't want anyone to see through the mask.
Grace rolled her eyes, she knew him. He could lie to anyone else, but not her and he knew it. "We should make sure everything is set up for the girls, I know your sister has a few things planned for you all."
"Mother..."
Carrick laughed at the son and mother interaction; all he could do is shake his head as his laughter grew. "I just can't with the two of you, Christian you may have been adopted but you are one-thousand percent Grace's kid." Grace leaned up and kissed Carrick before hurrying out towards the outside dining area, she wanted the girls to feel welcomed and warm. Carrick watched as his wife asked Annie, their housekeeper, to help her fix the arrangement of the table. "You should just let your mom have this...All she's ever wanted was for you to be a happy Christian."
Christian was about to complain when the doorbell rang. He couldn't even attempt to hide his smile as he opened the door. "Ana"
Ana's blush matched her soft red dress as her eyes found his grey ones. "Christian..."
In their moment they again forgot the people around them, Kate rolled her eyes at how cute the couple was being. "And Kate, but thanks, Christian." Ana rolled her eyes as Christian moved to the side to let the woman in. "You know you two could be a little less obvious."
Ana shook her head as she stared at Christian. "Thank you for the flowers, they were such a surprise this morning, but a good one." Christian just shrugged looking at the woman in front of him, her eyes sparkled just right, he could easily get lost in just them. "Uh I know last night they all talked about going out, I was hoping you were still going."
The young billionaire nodded, there was no way in hell he would miss an opportunity to spend more time with this woman. "I was supposed to have a meeting there anyway, so I'll be joining you after the meeting is complete." He suddenly was curious about what she could be wearing tonight, knowing that Mia and Kate are dressing Ana up tonight worried him immensely. He was trying to keep his temper under wraps, but something told him it was going to show at some point. Leaning closer to her, Christian's smirk was only visible to the two of them. "Though, I can only imagine I'm going to hire extra security to keep an eye on you till I'm done."
Ana couldn't funnel the words out clearly as she stared at him. He kept making her heart race, part of her wondered if it was the alcohol from last night that made them act the way they did last night. The answer was a clear no, sober as a horse, she could see what she wanted last night was real. "We should go join the others. We've been standing at this door for a long time." Ana couldn't find herself to separate from him till she saw in the corner of her eyes Grace watching. She knew she had to move first because Christian looked all too content standing in the grand room just the two of them. "We can chat later... right now your mom is staring at us and I'm pretty sure brunch is ready." Christian looked over his shoulder to see his mother trying to walk away without being notices. Letting out a deep breath, Christian extended his arm for Ana.
Brunch was an eventful affair, watching the Grey children interact with one another was something of a wonder. Even though they were all adopted, Ana could see some of the similarities that they had with one another. The normality of their interactions was something she envied; she was an only child up until she met Kate and Ethan. Of course, she had her father as the only constant, but sometimes she wished that she'd been lucky to have siblings. She watched as Kate seemed to easily fit in without missing a beat. Ana on the other hand was a person who just observed from her seat and really see everyone in the conversations were. The young housekeepers came around the table to clear it as Ana watched as everyone sort of fell into an easy conversation; to the right of her though she could see Christian intensely watching her. It was weird, the man who could bring a woman to her knees, seemed more nervous than she was to be around him. It wasn't possible, but she could see how it could come off that way. "So, Ana," Ana's eyes finally left Christians and faced Elliot's. "I hear you actually got Christian to the dance floor and got him to agree to come out with us tonight."
"That was probably your sister who got him, she kind of made sure I couldn't say no so I can only imagine what she did to get your brother to come tonight." Ana couldn't remember the last time she got to just relax. That was a lie, the last time she even remembered having a good night was the night she caught Jose in bed with her friend...It kind of killed the mood to ever leave to enjoy anything.
"Ugh you should've seen before January, we used to go out all the time. You should've seen this woman," Kate just groaned as she thought back to all the times that she got dragged into doing something crazy because of her brother or Ana. "Between her and my brother Ethan, I don't know who is worse. They both were adrenaline junkies." Elliot laughed knowingly, he could easily see Ana and Christian getting along being crazy adventurous. "Between Ethan having his son and Ana dealing with..." Kate realized in the nick of time what she was saying, turning she saw Ana trying to keep herself composed. Kate sometimes wished she could filter correctly what goes on in her head.
Christian's eyes instantly went to Ana, he could almost feel the shift in her mood the second Kate started talking about Ana. Reaching under the table Christian took her hand in his and gave it a slight squeeze. "To answer your question Elliot, I was too busy trying to keep my business together after my co-owner left. So, it's just been a journey to have free time. Your mom though made sure that yesterday was a delight for me." Ana placed a smile on her face, she reminded herself that she would have to have a nice long conversation with Kate when they were alone.
Coffee was poured and everyone continued to chat about random topics. Every now and then, Christian noticed Kate and Ana seemed to make eye contact. Christian could see that she clearly was upset with whatever Kate meant by her outburst. Grace was either unaware or avoiding it because she was going on about wanting to invite both to a girls' weekend coming up that she usually took with her mother and Mia. Ana wanting to be polite agreed to let Grace know she'd check with her assistant on upcoming events. Grace was looking forward to knowing Ana more, she made it pretty clear of her intentions on making sure Ana and Christian spent most of their time together.
Conversations moved to the inside of the house, everyone kind of grouped together; Grace Mia and Carrick were talking about the upcoming renovations on the boathouse, Elliot and Kate were talking about tonight mostly about wanting to get some dancing done. It left Ana and Christian, well just Ana currently because Christian is out by the garden yelling at someone on the phone. Sneaking off from the group, Ana walked outside wanting to talk a bit with Christian before everyone found them. "You need to find out what happened! I want a full report before I leave tonight!" Hanging up the phone, Christian let out a heavy deep breath. He wanted to know what happened to Ana that caused her so much sadness. The look he saw after Kate seemed to throw out Ana's past, it wasn't pleasant. He had finally calmed down when he turned around to see Ana facing him. "Are you leaving?"
Ana shook her head before moving closer to Christian. "It seems like your family doesn't make it easy." Her soft giggle made Christian smile. "No, your sister and Kate seem to think we should all get ready here. I don't know what Kate is going to do with her car, though I don't think that's going to be much of a problem since she and your brother seem to be laying on the flirting on thick inside." Ana rolled her eyes, Kate wasn't one who kept relationships to long, last thing Ana wanted was for something to happen and making it awkward for them and the Greys. "What are you doing out here?"
Christian knew it was bad, but he didn't want to tell Ana that he was looking into her past. It wouldn't be exactly the thing to tell anyone he wanted to possibly. "Work, we're trying to gather any and all information about someone I'm going into business with." It wasn't exactly the truth, but it was close enough. "What are you doing out here? I was sure my mom would be trying for all your attention.
"Needed to some air, Kate and I are making everyone else uncomfortable and I decided to step away." Running her fingers through her hair nervously, she'd only spent the last three days around him, yet she couldn't stop herself from wanting to touch him. Even more, it didn't stop her from wanting to kiss him. "I decided something though when I woke up this morning." Christian looked at her quizzically. Unsure of what she would say, he was quite nervous about what could come from her. "I'm going to let fate take me wherever it lands. I don't want to ignore all the signs that seem to be waving in front of me whenever you're around." Ana sighed as she ran her fingers through her hair, she was willing to take a chance even though it scared her more than anything on this earth. "But we have to take it slow, earlier this year my heart was shattered into tiny pieces and I don't want to risk that."
Christian didn't say anything, he just simply took her hand and led them down to the garden area of his parent's home. "I understand and trust me there are skeletons in my closet and I'm more than willing to keep waiting, but I feel like waiting would just derail what we could have." Those who knew Christian knew he wasn't the type to settle down, some thought he was gay or just a new girl every night; what they didn't know is deep down inside Christian wanted a true commitment. He wanted a relationship that he could trust and know that they wanted to be with him the same way. Maybe Ana is the one he'd been searching for. "Why don't we go on a walk? If everyone is distracted, now would be a good time to just get to know each other a bit more. I'm sure Mia's going to try and steal you away soon to do some girl time."
Ana groaned as they made their way towards the garden, she knew this was going to be along night if she had the two woman tag-teaming against her. "Please don't make me think of that. I wasn't even allowed to bring one of my own dresses, Mia told me there would be no chance she'd like whatever I picked." Ana just shook her head as they made it to one of the garden areas. "Wow, Grace really takes gardening seriously."
"When we all left, she took a little time off of work and decided to start this garden." Christian pointed off into the distance at an average size building. "That's where all her precious flowers are. I'll take you there sometime soon. Right now, she's redoing it."
Listening, again Ana could clearly just see the man behind the wall. He had such love and devotion to his mom; the hard exterior wasn't standing so hard right now. Ana could see through the holes in the hard parts. He talked with such care and love in his voice, she just couldn't help but wonder how he was single and not settled down. They walked down closer to the lake, there was a gazebo overlooking the lake that Christian decided to stop at. "It's perfect. I wish there was something like this at my dad's." Ana glanced up at Christian who was focusing on only her. "What?"
"This is going to sound very rushed, but I want to kiss you right now..." leaning down Christian was inches away from laying his lips upon hers. Ana didn't react at first, but after the reality hit her, she closed her eyes welcoming the kiss that was about to happen. She wanted slow, but inside her heart she knew one kiss wouldn't kill her.
