The Chemistry In Darkness

Chapter Ninety-Eight

Monday 28th July 2025

Two days later, Shaun was yelling at Chloe as she tried to fight him off, "C'mon now, Chlo, one more dose of this wicked deliciousness. One more for now…anyway!"

Chloe tried everything but it was too much for her heavily pregnant body to take against the brute of a man as she winced painfully when she felt the needle of the syringe jam into her neck, "Oww! Stop it, you're hurting me!"

Shaun forced the entire contents of liquid silver into Chloe's bloodstream, "Now, why would I stop? Another few more days…couple more dozen doses of this beautiful silver into your veins should do exactly what it intends on doing!"

"A dozen more doses? Are you kidding? What for? You've made your point with it!" Chloe yelled out in tears as she collapsed onto the bed again, crying heavily as she could sense the cold liquid swirling around her body, terrifying her what it was doing to her.

Or more specifically, what it would do to Elly.

The silver been injected into her body countless times a day for the past three days from Shaun wasn't causing Chloe any pain. The only duress it was giving her was wondering if Shaun was right about his experiment on her.

Is Shaun trying to make me poisonous to Elly?

"I haven't come close to making my point with this, Chlo!" Shaun yelled back at her, "It's going to take a lot more than just the doses I've given you to accomplish what I want."

"What do you want?" Chloe asked sadly, wanting to hear it from Shaun himself.

"To make sure Elly will spend the rest of her life so close yet so far from two of the people she loves the most," Shaun answered wickedly.

"Two?" Chloe swallowed hard.

"Why of course. The silver I'm injecting into you…it is my hope that it'll also infect your baby," Shaun told her smugly.

"You're poisoning my baby?" Chloe was shocked.

"I can't say for sure but I do believe that the silver in your system will transmit to your baby," Shaun shrugged without concern.

"What will it do to Elly?" Chloe needed to hear what she already feared.

Shaun shook his head, wondering how naïve Chloe was been or if she didn't want to believe it, "C'mon now, Chlo, you know what silver does to werewolves. It's nothing but pure poison to them, it eats them up like a drug and takes days to die a painful death. By tainting you with the poison…and the hope that it extends to your baby…Elly's gonna feel the pain that I felt when I found out she kept me away from Aster for her whole life…Elly's not gonna be able to get close to you and the baby. She's gonna have to spend her life unable to touch either of you…or risk certain death if she does…" then Shaun clapped his hands together, "What a way to kill the romance you two will never be able to have again!"

Chloe closed her eyes at the thought of never been able to have what she shared with Elly again, pleading silently that there needed to be a cure that would bring her and Elly and their baby back together again.

Chloe opened her eyes when Shaun clapped his hands again, "Now you know what my experiment is attempting to achieve to keep Elly from ever been happy again…let's see how we're progressing…to know that we really are gonna be here dosing you up for the next week or so. Cody!"

Within seconds, Chloe jumped when the werewolf, Cody, arrived at the bedroom door, summoned by Shaun.

"What?" Cody demanded.

"I want you to see how close you can get to Chloe…if there's any effects of been near her or touching her," Shaun ordered.

Cody resisted for a moment, "You've been poisoning her with silver for days now. What if it poisons me?"

"Then I thank you for your service," Shaun chuckled, "Oh for God's sake, Cody, she's not going to poison you from the number of doses she's taken. By my calculations…it'll take a hell of a lot more for the silver to do what I need it to do for both Chloe and her unborn baby."

Cody wanted to point out that as Shaun was experimenting on Chloe, he really had no idea just how quickly the silver liquid been injected into Chloe would affect a werewolf. But instead, he reluctantly did what Shaun wanted him to do. Walking over to Chloe, Cody hesitated when he was less than a meter away from her, before finally stalking right up to her where she was still curled up on the bed and placing his hand hesitantly to her shoulder.

Cody winced in some pain to his hand but it wasn't enough for him to withdraw the contact for a minute as he continued to hold onto Chloe against her will. Finally, breaking his hand from her, Cody snarled at Shaun as he showed him the burn marks left on his hand. As Shaun took Cody's hand in his own, examining the wounds they soon began to heal, leaving Cody's hand as it had been before within moments.

"Good start," Shaun decided, "Looks like we are going to be here for another week or so because we're not even close to been done yet if I'm going to make sure that Elly can never touch Chloe or their baby again so Elly can know what it's like to have the people whom she loves so close to her and yet so far."

Chloe burst into tears all over again at the thought of what it would do to Elly if she found out that Shaun was poisoning her on purpose with one of the most dangerous weapons against a werewolf in his attempt to keep them physically apart forever even if they did reunite. Plus, taking away Elly's ability to be a Mum to their baby if she was never going to be able to touch their child without risking her own life. And the horrible feeling that Shaun was going to take Aster away from them to make Elly lose all of them.

Elly will be so broken when she learns what Shaun is doing to us…I can't protect her from the pain this will cause her…can I?

Another few days later, it was Wednesday afternoon, five days exactly since Chloe and their unborn baby had been taken from her. Elly continued to sit at the Kennedy's dining table alone. She had barely slept at all since Chloe was taken, with eating and drinking to keep herself hydrated not high on her agenda either.

Karl and Susan were more than a little bit worried about Elly's state of mind with Chloe missing. Shaun been around, helping look after Aster, they weren't sure if it was doing Elly more harm than good. But there was only so much they could do for Elly and to convince her that Chloe needed her to look after herself.

Shaun was hanging out in the kitchen with Aster sitting up on the bench next to him as they chatted away for what felt like hours on end. Elly was getting used to seeing him spend so much time with their daughter. She didn't particularly like having him around, he was a reminder of her past misdeeds by cheating on her husband at the time, Mark, but if she hadn't then she wouldn't have Aster and for that she wouldn't change the past.

The only past Elly would change was leaving Chloe's side at the wedding and not warning Bea that uploading the photo of them with Aster could cause a lot of problems for her family's life with Shaun wanting to be part of Aster's life.

Shaun had a right to be in Aster's life which Elly couldn't refuse him, especially when Aster was so enthralled in getting to know him. Having spoken to Aster about Shaun when he wasn't there, it broke Elly's heart to hear Aster needed the distraction Shaun offered her with Chloe missing. So for that, having Shaun in their house, spending hour after hour chatting to Aster and getting to know her, Elly was thankful to him for.

Shaun spending time with Aster, allowed Elly to focus on the search for Chloe.

Elly couldn't bring herself to actively search for her, she was too afraid of finding Chloe herself, afraid that she would find her and know instantly that she's lost her forever. She continued staying at her Aunt and Uncle's house with Aster, relying on everyone else from The Pack and Mark's police team to track Chloe down for her. And if they had news that Elly didn't want to hear about Chloe, it would hurt a miniscule amount less not seeing it for herself.

When Elly's phone rang, the werewolf jumped at answering it within seconds, "Lex? Anything?"

Shaun tried to pay attention to Aster as he and her were sorting through ingredients from the fridge and pantry so she could help him cook dinner for the two of them and Elly that night. But he couldn't resist attempting to listen in to Elly's side of the conversation with her werewolf friend. Even if he couldn't hear too much, it wouldn't take much for him to work out if anyone had tracked Chloe's disappearance to him.

Elly would certainly turn on him and attack him without hesitation if she knew the truth. Or at the very least, drag him away from Aster and then do him in. Shaun knew the risk he was taking been in plain sight of Elly most of the day for the past five days in his attempt to get her to trust him with Aster. He knew Elly was down and out without Chloe but he knew enough to know that just taking off with Aster wasn't easier said than done.

The danger that Elly presented Shaun with meant he knew he needed to break her down until she didn't notice Aster was gone and be as far away from her as possible when she realized he was responsible. Giving her Chloe and their unborn baby back only for Elly to breakdown further when she realized that her life with her family was never going to be the same with two of the people whom she loved the most nothing but poison to her.

Elly completely zoned Shaun from her memory when she was on the phone to her friend, pleading for any news on Chloe, as she got up from the table and walked down to the hallway to take her call in case it was bad news.

"I'm here with Clarke," Lexa said, letting Elly know she was on speaker phone, "We've got absolutely nothing, Elly."

"Nothing?" Elly seethed at the women, despite not blaming them, "It's been five days and you are telling me we have no idea who the werewolf is that took her, why he took her and where he took her?"

"We've tracked down every werewolf Pack in the area that we know of and some that we didn't know about from other wolves and none of them know the wolf that took Chloe. He must be an Omega but we can't work out which Pack he was originally part of," Clarke explained.

"How's Aster doing?" Lexa asked Elly, trying to get Elly to focus on anything but their failure to track down her mate.

"About to cook dinner with Shaun…I dunno…she's spending lots of time with him getting to know him. Part of me is thankful she has him for a distraction to what's going on with Chloe and our baby…the other part of me…I don't want Shaun here. If…when Chloe comes back to me, what then? We have to share Aster with him? I don't want to deal with this…I just want Shaun to go back to Switzerland and forget he ever knew we're alive. I want my life back before Chloe went missing," Elly admitted.

"We know you do," Lexa sympathized, "We're not giving up on finding Chloe. We're gonna bring her home to you. Then you and Aster and your future baby are gonna live a happy life together. Nothing will stand in the way of that, most definitely not Shaun wanting to spend some time with Aster. We promise you."

Elly closed her eyes, "Maybe I should just leave Aster with Shaun for a few days so I can be out there with you both searching for Chloe."

"Elly, we know you want to help Chloe but staying with Aster is helping her," Clarke insisted.

"How is this really helping Chloe?" Elly was starting to question her decision.

"It's keeping you sane so you don't go off half-cocked and want to kill anyone in your way to getting Chloe back," Lexa pointed out.

Elly relented, "Fine…keep doing what you're doing…and I'll keep doing what I'm doing…waiting around for my mate to come home to me…and then I can go off half-cocked and want to kill the person who took her from me."

"That's the spirit," Lexa grinned, before farewelling Elly with another promise to call in the morning.

Elly returned to the dining room from the hallway, acknowledging Shaun who now had Aster piggy back riding on his back as he got something from the fridge then shifted to the counter.

"Any news about Chloe?" Shaun asked, trying to appear concerned about the woman he had taken from Elly and Aster.

Elly shook her head, almost wanting to burst into tears.

Before Elly could let a tear slip down her cheek, she was interrupted when the front door burst open and Bea and Yashvi stumbled into the house, happily giggling away all over one another.

I forgot their honeymoon ended today…

"We're back! And we have gifts for everybody!" Bea announced as happy as anything in the world with Yashvi's arm entangled in her own.

Bea's face quickly fell as she was shocked to find Shaun with Aster in the kitchen, then even more so when she saw Elly standing there by the dining table looking as upset as she could ever remember seeing her sister been, "What happened?"

Next time - YashBea are back! Can they help bring Chloe home? And will Shaun's experiment on Chloe with liquid silver make her poisonous to werewolves?
