And so it was
To see ones home was usually a good thing. A chance to meet with friends and family. To remember old spots and create new favourite ones. But for Rullu that was not the case. As he looked upon the fleet he commanded He felt a heaviness that one can only feel when one has lost so much. His home was gone, his friends, his family even his wife where gone. Lost to the dark queen and her minions he hoped his wife had died but he knew she was more then likely a servant of the dark queen now. He had tried to warn his king about the threat the queen possessed but he was ignored, she seemed to enraptured all she met. But Rullu was immune to her charms.
But by the time the others had caught on it was too late. Atlantia was lost to the dark queen. Its people scattered, dead or corrupted. Even the mystic fell to her. Their control of the elements and of lighting turned on the people they served by order of their new queen. The fight had been short and in the end only a few had managed to escape. They swore vengeance. Rullu pointed his battered fleet at Egypt and sort out the pharaoh Thutmose III he was a master strategises and a formidable warrior. At first his pleas where ignored, then the attacks on Harbor towns started and the Pharaoh in his wisdom agreed to help rid the world of the threat.
Thutmose had gone in person to the mystics of the desert and convinced them to join the fight. They had worked endlessly for weeks to come up with a defence and offence against the dark queen. Finally they had a solution and the fleet was assembled. Men and equipment from all over Egypt and its neighbours began to flood in. Ships of every size shape and design made their way to Egypt. An alliance was formed for the first time between mystics and non mystics. This was a battle for humanity and it would take all of them to win it. Even then they might not be enough. And so here Rullu stood looking at the cliffs of his youth, smothered in dark and infernal plants. They could not fail he ordered the ships to advance and the crew got into positions. Arches grabbed blessed arrow, slinger armed themselves with rocks covered in fire and the soldiers readied themselves for the battle to come.
Lyssa stood on the balcony of her new kingdom she had subjugated many an island and nation but now she saw one willing to put up a fight. She had met resistance before of course but nothing on this scale. She wasn't sure whether to be impressed or feel sorry for their stupidity. They would fail and she would spread across the world. She turned to her loyal Nightguant "Shana it would appear your husband has returned and thinks he can liberate you. Isn't that sweet." she said mockingly
"He is a fool to resist your divine will my queen. I will prepare our forces and kill him myself" she said as Lyssa nodded and she left.
As the ships neared the island, the sky filed with a demonic screech as the lesser demons. Those deemed inferior flew towards the ships. They where lead by several Nightguants. As the swarm approached the fleet. Rullu saw the soldiers begin to falter "Do not let fear into you hearts. They have taken your wives, your daughter and your sisters. They have corrupted you friends and destroyed your home. Now is not the time for fear now is the time for revenge. Let the sky fill with the weapons of our salvation" he said trying to inspire his men. It worked. He smiled and turned to the drummer "Battle speed" he yelled. The drummer began a quick pace and soon another ship joined in then another and another till the whole fleet was filled with the sound of war drums.
"Archers ready, aim" he paused and waited for the enemy to get in range "Fire" he yelled and as he did the sky filed with arrows from all ships and the lightning from the mystics that had come to help. The arrows slammed into the lesser demons causing them to screech and dissolve. Each volley caused more to fall but that did not stop the swarm. The demons descended upon the ships ripping crews apart. Thier screams filling the air around them. Soon the sounds of battle spread all over the fleet. One hundred ships engaging in desperate fight for their lives. Soldiers blocked, slashed and stabbed. Slingers launched their deadly payloads and spears brought many more down. However the humans still dropped ripped apart by unholy creatures their souls ripped form their bodies, food for the queen.
Rullu plunged his sword into a demon before swinging and taking another one out. As he fought he saw the form of a Nighthaunt descend onto the ship next to him. He rushed forward taking the spear of a fallen solider lined up his shot and threw it. The spear crashed into the figure and she screamed a blood-curdling scream that pierced even the mayhem of the battle. She collapsed and writhed as her flesh dissolved and nothing but bone remained. The scream enraged the other nightguant who foolishly flew at Rullu wanting revenge. He used this to his advantage and lined up what archers he had left and let them fire their volley. Not one Nightguant made it to his ship. The battle was turning and the fleet continued to approach.
Lyssa felt the death of her daughters and let out an ungodly scream the sky blackened and lightning descended amongst the fleet destroying ship after ship. But still the fleet came closer. The rowers kept rowing even as their numbers where whittled away. But soon a new light filed the sky and the lighting was stopped. Rullu looked to the source it was Echinda the most powerful mystic he knew. He could see the strain it took to keep it at bay. But it gave them the advantage they needed. The ships got closer soon they could deposit their cargo of soldiers onto the beaches of Atlantia and take the fight to the enemy.
On the shore three nightguants stood on the beach lead by Eboni. She was a priestess of Bastet before she her Queen showed her her true path. Her cat tail swayed happily as she and the others began chanting. As they did the sea around the ships began to swell and shift. Long trails of blackened plants shot from the sea and dragged ships down to the bottom, or snapped them spilling their human crew into the churning waters some shot onto the decks and impaled soldiers, rowers and commanders alike. Sails snapped and ores broke but still they ships continued. It was impossible to tell the number that had been lost but it did not mater the cost would never be to high to destroy the dark queen.
The ships drew closer and soon the beaches where in range of the archers. They let lose every arrow they could. The Nightguants shield repelled the attacks but they whee begin to falter under the strain. So many arrows were let lose the sun began to be obscured by them. Under the strain of so many enchanted arrows it was inevitable that the shield would not hold. With in seconds all three Nightguants where torn apart by the seemingly unending tide of arrows. As soon as the last, Eboni fell the sea calmed and the planets receded
Lyssa could feel every death and it was almost to much. How could she be losing. How id they come together so quickly. In that instance she let all her hatred and all her anger lose into the sky. It created a blast so powerful it shattered the shields of the approaching ships and destroyed its casters boat along with at least a dozen more. But it did not matter. Ships had made it to the shore and troops where landing by the hundred. Under the constant fire from the arches and the slingers
While some would see landing on Atlantia a win. Rullu knew the battle was far from over. His men clashed with the demons as they carved their way though them. The battle turned the seas and the sand red with blood. After another ten minutes the beach was theirs and they moved onto the next phase. Taking the city. In that moment Rullu looked up at the palace and pointed his sword at the figure he thought he could see "I'm coming for you Lyssa and I will defeat you" he roared.
