A/N: Hi, I'm here with another chapter for you all! I know that it has actually been quite a while since I last updated this story, and I deeply apoligize for that. I already had this chapter writted out beforehand, but I just haven't gotten around to posting it yet because of a few things that I've been going through lately. Hence, the delayed update posting. I hope that you all understand my reasoning, and I also hope you all understand that I'll be making regulary updates to this story, most likely once every 7-10 days. I'm still going through a few things right now, so please understand if I'm late to posting next week as well. Anyways, here's a longer chapter to compensate for the wait! :D Please let me know what you think of it, review, and as of right now... Please Enjoy! :D
Marcia went into her room as soon as school ended. She tried to concentrate on her biology homework, but she just couldn't focus; her mind kept drifting back to Adam. She just wished she could do something to get his attention, and then maybe he would ask her to the dance so that she wouldn't have to worry about doing it herself. Yes, that would be a brilliant plan: she just needed to figure out how to get him to ask her.
She tried to think of all of the different things that she could do. Maybe she could wear a pretty dress to school to the next day or do something different with her hair. After mulling it over in her mind for a few more moments, she decided that that was exactly what she would do. She would wear one of her prettiest casual sundresses to school and then strike up a conversation with him. Surely, he would ask her to the dance then.
As for making a new hairstyle for herself, she decided she would go with some loose curls. Now, if only she could find her set of hair curlers. She tried to think of where she possibly could've put them. Finally, after looking all over her room, she realized that she had given them to Jan as a loaner. She ran down into the living room to find Jan sitting on the sofa, reading a magazine.
"Jan, I need those curlers I lent to you," Marcia asked her sister.
"I don't have them," Jan replied. She had almost forgotten all about those curlers.
"What do you mean? I gave them to you."
"Oh, I think I gave those to Cindy," Jan realized.
"Ok, I'll go get them from her," Marcia said and left to go find Cindy.
Meanwhile, Jan had just got an idea. She had spent the afternoon after school flipping through the pages of a hip new magazine that the popular girls always made a point to look through. She marveled at all of the pretty new styles that everyone had worn as inspiration from that magazine. Just now she had seen one photo spread of some new hairstyles that were gaining popularity with teenage girls, and she had almost completely forgotten all about those hair rollers that Marcia had lent to her. If she could use those curlers then maybe she would be able to recreate some version of that hairstyle. All she had to do now was find Cindy and get those hair curlers back from her before Marcia did.
So, she got up and went off to look for Cindy.
Greg Brady was sitting in his room attempting yet again to try and solve some of his math homework problems. After a few chapters, he shut his book and gave up. It was no use; he was just too occupied with the Biology test coming up. He decided that what he needed to do right now was study some more for the test so that he would be more prepared for when it was scheduled.
He looked around his somewhat messy room and tried to find the note cards he used to study.
"Now where did I put those?" he wondered.
After looking around in agony for a few more moments, he realized that he had given them to Marcia who had been using them to help him study a few days back. He was not sure where Marcia was, though, but he knew that he needed to find her, and quick.
He went into Marcia's room, but she was not there either. He looked around for a few moments more then he headed down to the living room to see if she might have been sitting there. Instead of finding Marcia, he just found Peter who was walking in through the door from outside. In his hand, he was holding a deflated basketball.
"Hey Peter, have you seen Marcia? She's got my notecards, and I can't find her any where," he asked him.
"Uh no, but I think I remember hearing her tell Jan that she was going to find Cindy a few minutes ago," Peter responded.
"Ok, I'll go and find Cindy then. Marcia might be with her," Greg said and left.
As Greg left, now Peter was left standing all alone in the living room while holding his deflated basketball. He had went out to the backyard to practice some shooting so that he could be prepared for the big game. Even though he couldn't be captain, the least he could do was get better for his team.
However, he had practiced so hard that he had accidentally dribbled on to a nail that was loose from the wood on their fence. This caused the ball to pop a hole, lose all of its air, and go flat.
"Just my luck," Peter thought.
He knew that Greg had a spare, so he decided to ask him to borrow his. He ran upstairs to find Greg in the hallway. He asked him, "Can I borrow your basketball, I blew the air out of mine?"
"Sure, it's somewhere in my room," Greg responded. "If you can find it, then you can have it," he joked.
Peter nodded and ran up to Greg's room. He looked around all over, but he could not find the basketball anywhere. He even double, triple, and quadruple checked, but could not find the ball even moments later. He decided to give up on his search and just find Greg so that he might at least be able to find the basketball then.
If it was just his luck again, he couldn't find Greg either. "First no ball and now no Greg," he thought.
He walked over into Bobby's room to ask him.
"Hey, Bobby, have you seen Greg around anywhere? I just saw him a few minutes ago, but I can't find him now," Peter asked Bobby.
"I think he was saying something about going to find Cindy so that he could find Marcia so that he could get his note cards back from her," Bobby responded.
"Oh yeah," he realized. "Thanks, I'll go get him then. Wait, have you seen Cindy anywhere?"
"I'm not sure where she is right now, but I already need to find her," Bobby replied.
Bobby was still very nervous for his up coming speech assignment where he needed to make up and recite a short story in front of his whole class. He had done some thinking already so far as soon as he had got home from school when the bus dropped him off. He decided that he should go and ask Cindy for some ideas. He was already really close with her, and he just knew how much she loved reading little story books. He thought he could use one of those of her books as some inspiration ideas for the speech he would need to recite.
"Well, let's go and find her together then," Peter said, snapping Bobby out of his reverie.
"Okay, sure," Bobby responded, and the two of them got up, also heading out to look for Cindy.
While all of the Brady kids were out looking for Cindy, Cindy Brady was sitting quietly in her room reading one of her favorite books. The whole bus ride home from school had fazed her, and she always found reading to calm herself down.
On this particular day, she was reading the book that had always seemed mysterious to her. She remembered first moving into their house and going up into the attic to get some peace and quiet from all of her new siblings. She noticed it was very dusty, but took the time to look around the place. After some exploring - making sure to be wary of all the spiders - she came across a slightly tattered neatly leather bound brown book sitting away in a corner. On top of the book had sat a plain little rag doll.
Having had no idea who it belonged to or what it was doing in their home's attic, she claimed the book and the doll as her own. As the first order of business, she named her new doll Becky. She always liked hearing that name for some reason, and after all, it was her doll now, wasn't it? Next, she settled down and opened the book to begin reading.
She had been immediately intrigued by the tale the book at told: a tale set in Medieval times with kings and queens and princesses and princes and dragons and castles. The words were all written in the prettiest cursive handwriting she had seen, and the illustrations were all so neat, regal, and vividly colorful.
Now, she was happy to be given the chance to take herself back to reading the book so that she could forget all of the troubles of her school day.
However, just as soon as she had got all settled down and opened the book to a page, she heard a loud conundrum coming from outside of the room door. In her rush to see what all the commotion was about, she tossed Becky to the side and left her on top of the story book before leaving to open the door.
What she had failed to realize was that she left Becky lying on the book on top of the word courage.
She opened the door to find all of her siblings loudly quarrelling about something.
"I need my hair rollers back!" Jan exclaimed.
"No, I need them first!" Marcia countered. "They're my rollers in the first place!"
"Not before you give me back my note cards, Marcia!" Greg shouted.
"I can't find your basketball anywhere in your room!" Peter proclaimed.
"I need your story book first, Cindy!" Bobby added in a hurry.
"What's going on?" Cindy asked at everyone's worried expressions.
"I need the hair rollers so that I can do a hairstyle to impress the popular girls. I'm too afraid to approach them without anything else," Jan explained.
"Well, I need them so that I can impress this boy I like. I'm also too afraid to approach him," Marcia said.
"I needed the note cards because of the science test coming up. I just want to be able to pass the class!" Greg said.
"And I needed your basketball so that I can get good enough so that the coach might make me captain next season," Peter said.
"Cindy, I just needed your story book so I can practice giving a story speech to all my whole entire class," Bobby explained.
Cindy realized that everyone, including her, had been having a rough couple of days back at school. "I get it you guys," she said. "Some boys have been teasing me on the bus because they saw Becky the other day."
All the Brady kids just now realized that all of them had been going through the same thing: a rough patch of a few rough couple of days. They were all about to comfort each other a bit more about their school lives when, all of a sudden, a bright flash of light came from Cindy's room...
And it was coming right from Becky the rag doll and the story book.
