PREVIOUSLY-
"You said he's a mind reader, right?" He asked me and I nodded. Oh. "Pack mind doesn't turn off, starshine. He heard everything. And when I say everything…"
"So he decided to attack?" I asked him, still not believing it.
"That wasn't all, Bella." He told me and I motioned for him to continue. "His eyes… they weren't gold, they were bright red."
"They were bright red?" I asked, unbelieving. I'd never thought that Edward would let himself fall back to human blood again, and I knew that Carlisle and Esme wouldn't.
"Clear as day, starshine. Trust me, we were all surprised. But you know what that means?" Seth asked me. I looked up at him. "If he drank from a human, then the treaty is void."
I remembered that. If any of them drank from humans, the treaty would be void, and if Edwards eyes were bright red, it would've meant he'd just drank from a human. I prayed it wasn't anyone near Forks. It also meant that Charlie wasn't safe in Forks.
"Seth, what about Charlie?" I asked him quickly. "I'm graduated now, I can be down here all the time, but he can't."
"We'll keep him protected, Bella. I promise. I'm going to talk to Sam about some things later and we'll figure it out." He told me with a kiss on the forehead. "On the bright side, does this mean you're officially moving in with me?"
"I'm down here nearly every night already. I mean as long as your mom says its—" I was cut off when he picked me up and spun me around, then put me back on my feet and kissed me on the lips.
We heard a wolf call from out the back door and Seth saw Sam walking up to the house. He came inside and looked at the both of us.
"We chased him clear to Canada, but I'm sure he'll come back. We're on rotating patrols now, nothing will get by us. Seth, you're on middays while Bella is working with Emily." Sam told him.
"Got it boss. I've been thinking… I wanted to ask if we can possibly tell Charlie? With everything going on and him being a likely target if douche bag is going for Bella… it'll be hard to keep finding reasons for him to stay in La Push. Not to mention, it'll explain why Bella and I are how we are and why she's moving in with me already." Seth asked him.
I'd always wished that Charlie could know. It would definitely make things easier and would explain a lot of things for him. I waited with bated breath to see what Sam would say.
"I've discussed it with Billy, Sue, and Old Quil already. They've agreed that Charlie is trustworthy enough to keep our secret and that since his daughter is part of the pack, it was my choice whether or not to tell him. I agree that we should go ahead and tell him, considering he may become a target if the leech is trying to get to Bella." Sam replied.
I was happy that he would get to know, but terrified of what he would say about it. It's not every day that you're inducted into a mythical world full of vampires and shape-shifting werewolves.
"Guess now's as good a time as any…" Seth muttered as they both heard the car pull up with Sue, Charlie, and Emily.
Seth held my waist as he pulled me close to him. He was definitely still shirtless from our run and Sam was as well, when they hadn't been before.
Sue came inside first and Charlie followed soon after. He saw us there already and was immediately confused.
"I want some answers. First, what the hell happened back there? Second, how did you get here so fast? I know there's only one road in and out and I saw your truck in the parking lot as we left. And third, why are you guys always going around without your shirts on. I know the both of you definitely had your shirts on when we were there." Charlie said, first and foremost. It was definitely time.
"Charlie, why don't you have a seat and we'll explain everything. I promise it'll all make sense after you know." Sam told him immediately and he rose his eyebrows, but made his way to the chair to sit.
We all sat around the table, including Emily, who sat next to Sam.
"First of all, I need you to know that none of us could tell you anything unless we had special approval from the elders of the tribe to do so. Even Bella couldn't say anything, so please don't be angry that she didn't." Sam began, which I was thankful for.
"Alright, so what is this secret and why is it so 'need to know'?" Charlie asked, sitting back in the chair with his arms crossed, waiting for an explanation.
"You've heard the legends of our tribe, correct?" Sam asked him.
"Only about a million times from Billy and Harry. About the wolves, right?" He replied. I didn't know he knew that…
"Yes, Charlie. The legends are true." Said Sam.
"Can you, uh, elaborate, son?" Charlie asked, not sure how he meant.
"When our tribe comes under threat, certain members with a gene that's been passed down over the generations, will become what we call 'spirit warriors'. We can shift into wolves to protect our tribe." Sam explained and I waited for Charlie's reaction.
"When you say 'shift' into wolves, you mean like a werewolf?" He asked incredulously.
"More like shape-shifter. Our shape is just that of a wolf, or more correctly, giant wolves. We don't need the moon and we aren't allergic to silver, none of that." Sam told him carefully.
"So if I requested it, you could turn into a 'giant' wolf, right now?" Charlie questioned.
"Outside, but yes. Would you like to see?" Sam asked him.
Charlie looked at me and I nodded my head that he wasn't lying.
"I think I would, you know, need to see to believe type of thing." Charlie told him, scratching his head.
"Me or Seth, Charlie?" Sam asked him carefully and I turned to see how he would react to that piece of information.
"Seth, too?" He questioned.
"There's eight of us right now. Seth is part of the pack as well." Sam answered.
"I, uh, think I'd like to see Seth, you know, make sure he won't hurt my baby girl and all." Charlie cleared his throat.
"I can promise you, I'd never hurt Bella. There's a reason why that we'll tell you after I phase, but Bella's seen my wolf countless times." Seth told him, standing up to head outside.
Charlie raised his eyebrows again as he looked at me.
"Come on Charlie. Seth will come out from the forest and we'll stay by the house." Sam told him as he stood up as well.
Seth took off out the back door into the forest and we all walked outside, waiting for him to come out.
Less than a minute later, my favorite sandy wolf came walking out of the treeline and Charlie's eyes got wide as saucers.
"That's Seth?" Charlie asked Sue quickly, pointing to my wolf.
"Yes, Charlie. That's my son." She replied to him easily. I began to walk up to him and Charlie held his arm out to stop me.
"Bella—"
"Charlie, I promise she's fine. Watch what he does." Sam told him calmly. He released his arm and I walked forward to my wolf.
Seth rubbed his muzzle up against my neck and licked my face all the way up as I giggled, then laid down in front of me, baring his neck as a sign of submission.
"So basically my daughter's boyfriend is a giant dog?" I turned my head and laughed along with all of them. Even Seth gave out the wolf version of a laugh before heading back into the woods to phase back. "Why can't he just change back here in front of us?"
"Our clothes don't phase with us, Charlie. He's phasing in the woods out of modesty." Sam chuckled. "Which is why we are always shirtless. We can carry our shorts with us on our ankle, but the shirt is just too much."
"Aren't you cold? I mean it's Washington." Charlie asked questioningly.
"Our body temperatures run at 108 degrees, so no, we're never cold. We also heal extremely fast, and have supernatural level senses." Sam explained.
Seth walked out from the forest and came back to my side.
"So I take it that you guys are the giant 'bears' that all the hikers have been reporting?" Charlie asked them curiously. "You're not the ones killing the hikers are ya?"
"We're definitely not killing the hikers, Charlie. We are trying to protect the hikers from what is killing them." Sam explained.
"And what would that be?" Charlie questioned as we walked back inside.
"The cold ones. Vampires." Seth responded to him. "Speaking of which, Sam, Jake wanted me to tell you he ran a circuit around the Cullen's place, nothing to report."
"Vampires. Werewolves. Wait, you said the Cullens? What do they have to do with any of this?" Charlie asked and I braced myself for it.
"They're vampires, Charlie. And before you ask, they're not like the ones you hear about in stories. They are technically dead, they have no heartbeat, but not all of them drink human blood. The Cullens did not, so we had a treaty with them. They are built like stone, only one of us or one of their kind can kill them. The sun doesn't kill them, nor does garlic or wooden stakes. They don't walk in the direct sunlight though because they sparkle like diamonds. They don't eat or sleep, especially not in coffins, and they don't age. They're immortal." Sam explained to him and he looked over at me.
"So the Cullens are vampires, and you knew about this, Bella?" He asked me with concern.
"Yeah, dad. I knew." I replied to him with a grimace.
"You dated a vampire… knowingly?" I nodded. "How old are we talking?"
"109 years old?" I supplied.
"Over a century old." He ran his fingers over his mustache, then looked at Sam. "And don't think I missed the part about the fact that you 'had' a treaty with them. Why?"
"Our treaty was that none of them could feed off humans and they could not come onto the reservation, or they would be fair game to our pack. One of them broke the treaty. Today." Sam responded, not even sugar coating it.
"Which one?"
"Edward." I replied quietly.
"He is the reason we had to leave the graduation like we did, Charlie. He was there, standing in the back, watching Bella. The pack chased him, but not before he went for me and Bella." Seth told him truthfully.
"He went after you and Bella?" Charlie asked immediately.
"She was safe with me, Charlie. I would protect her with my life if I needed to." Seth said.
"Is that why the treaty was broken? Because he came after you?" Charlie requested.
"No, though that would be grounds as well. His eyes were red, Charlie, which meant that he had recently fed from a human." Sam said to him, causing his eyes to widen, as well as Sue's and Emily's.
"I want him taken down. I don't care how you do it, I want him dead." Charlie told them both resolutely.
"Consider it done, Chief." Sam replied with an air of confidence and pride.
"Now about this 'you'd give your life' for Bella. What do you mean by that, son? Is it another wolf thing?" Charlie asked Seth.
"Yeah, it is. I, uh, imprinted on your daughter, sir. The first time I saw her after I phased, right after my dad died." Seth explained to him.
"Imprinted, what does that mean?"
"It means they are connected in the most sacred way possible. To be frank, it's essentially like a soulmate. Their lives are intertwined inseparably. They can't be far apart from each other, and they can feel one another's emotions. Bella is the very center of Seth's universe. He would literally do anything for her, and he couldn't and wouldn't ever leave her." Sam told him and I waited for his response.
"Well that makes a hell of a lot of sense. I could tell something was different about their relationship from the very beginning. I've never seen a teenage kid so committed. Are there any other of these imprints?" Charlie questioned, leaving me completely surprised.
"Two others thus far. I'm imprinted to Emily, and Jared is imprinted to a girl named Kim." Sam replied, wrapping his arm around Emily with a smile.
"I have to say, this is a lot of information, but it does make sense now. I feel better knowing my Bella is protected, and that Seth here can't just up and leave her. But I'm worried about this Edward and him being back, chasing after Bella with his recent, uh, change in diet." Charlie stated.
"That is why it was important to tell you about the pack now, Charlie. It is safer on the reservation. We don't want you to be a potential target for him to use against Bella." Sam supplied to him.
"I was planning on moving down here with Seth, dad. As long as it's okay with Sue." I told him honestly.
"That's fine with me, honey. You know you're already like my own daughter." Sue said with a smile.
"I can't even say the boy is too young now, can I?" Charlie said rhetorically. "I mean, you've practically been living down here for two months already, and I assume it was actually with Seth and not Leah?"
I went pink in the face, but answered, "Uh, yeah dad, it was. Leah is really one of my best friends, as well as Emily, but yes, I've been staying with Seth."
"I figured you probably were anyways. I can't stop you, Bells. You're 18." Charlie told me, which wasn't a big surprise. Seth and I thought he probably knew already.
"It would be convenient if you were to stay on the reservation until the threat is taken care of as well, Charlie." Sam told him.
"I have to work, I'm the chief of police. But I guess I could stay with Billy overnights if I have to, if he'll have me. I'm assuming he knows as well?" Charlie responded.
"Billy knows. He's one of the Elders, as well as Sue and Old Quil. Jacob is also part of the pack." Sam explained.
"So how did you know what Jacob said earlier, son?" Charlie asked Seth curiously.
"We can see each other's thoughts when we're phased. Since we can't speak as wolves, it's our form of communication, called the pack mind." Seth responded.
"Well, I'm going to go to Billy's and talk to him, but I thank you for bringing me into the secret. It relieves my mind to know that my Bella isn't involved in anything nefarious." Charlie said after clearing his throat.
"If you have any more questions, you can always ask, Charlie." Seth told him truthfully.
"I expect I will, and being my future son-in-law, I expect you to answer every single one of them." Charlie told him as he reached out to shake Seth's hand, causing him smile wide and me to drop my jaw.
A/N- As I've mentioned before, Charlie's no idiot. He's perceptive. At least he knows now! We'll get to more Eddie soon. What do you think of Charlie's request about Edward and Sam's reply to it?
