Over the course of the next three weeks, everything finally returned to normal and Emily and I opened our bakery/catering shop on the res in the open space near Joy Ateara's store.
On our third day open, this older woman came into the shop with way too much perfume on, and with my increased sense of smell, I had to run out the back while Emily dealt with her.
I found myself hurling into a bush until I had absolutely no stomach contents left. Emily came out to check on me a little while later.
"Are you okay, Bella?" She asked, handing me a cup of water.
"Yeah, that perfume just set me off." I told her, drinking a sip. "This heightened sense of smell stuff can be good and bad."
"Are you sure it was that and not maybe… something else?" She asked me quickly and quietly.
"Of course, I'm on the sho—Emily, what day is it?" I questioned, started to mentally panic.
"July 14th." She replied and I tried to go through my calendar in my head, but I just couldn't remember it.
"I, uh, need to go home. Will you be okay here alone?" I asked quickly.
"Sure, just let me know what's going on, okay?" She responded and I nodded before heading to my truck.
I drove back home quickly and Seth met me at the door.
"What's wrong, starshine? I thought you were supposed to be at work?" He asked as I rushed inside.
"Where's my planner, Seth?" I asked him as I made my way down the stairs.
"On the desk, why? Is everything okay?" He told me as he rushed behind me.
I found my planner on the desk, just as he said, and I flipped it open to July. Nothing. I turned it back to June and sure enough, June 7th was marked. Two days after I'd been bitten.
I sat down on the floor in front of the desk and stared at the page.
"Bella, what's wrong. You're worrying me." Seth asked as he kneeled in front of me. He picked up my planner and looked at the date circled. "What was this circled for? Did we forget something?"
I gulped and looked up at him, unsure of how I should proceed.
"Bella?"
"My birth control shot." I whispered to him.
"What about it?" He asked curiously.
"I missed it… a month ago." I muttered as I looked back up at him. His eyes widened as he realized what I was implying. "I haven't had my period…"
He swallowed nervously. "What made you remember today?"
"A lady came into the shop with really strong perfume on and I ended up out back throwing up in the bushes." I murmured to him. "Seth, what if—"
"Everything will be fine, Bella. If you are, then we'll figure it out along the way." He reassured me as he pulled me to my feet and wrapped his arms around me.
"But you're only 16…" I whispered into his chest.
"It doesn't matter, starshine. I love you and I'll love any children we end up having, no matter how old I am." He promised as he rubbed circles on my back. "Call Leah, she's at the store. Have her pick up a test. There's no need to stress until we know for sure."
I nodded and pulled out my cell phone, dialing her number.
"What's up Swan?" She answered immediately.
"Are you still at the store?" I asked her nervously.
"Yep, what do you need?" She responded.
"I, uh, can you, um, I need, uh—" Seth took the phone from my hand.
"Can you get a pregnancy test, Lee?" He asked her as I covered my face in embarrassment.
"Damn, baby bro. Sure I'll pick up a few, but only if I'm the first to know if I'm going to be an aunt after you guys find out." Leah replied as I groaned loudly.
"Thanks Lee, I owe you one." Seth told her before hanging up the phone and handing it back to me.
We waited the 20 minutes for Leah to get home and once she was home, she came down the stairs with three different boxes.
"Good luck, Swan. I'll be waiting." She said ominously as she handed them to me before walking back up the stairs.
I took a deep breath and Seth kissed me on the head before I walked into the bathroom with all three of them.
I sat down on the toilet and opened them all, holding all three at once while I did my thing.
Afterward, I placed all three on the counter with their lids on and opened the door for Seth to come in.
"We'll be okay no matter what, I promise." Seth told me as he pulled me into his chest and hugged me tightly.
The three minutes went by excruciatingly slow. The entire time, I had different scenarios going through my head.
"Do you want to look, or do you want me to look?" He asked me as I stared at the wall. I swallowed nervously and shook my head. I couldn't do it.
He reached over and picked up all three, looking at them all at the same time. I bit my lip as he sat them back down and lifted my chin to look at him. I couldn't tell what it was from his expression.
A/N- I know it was short but I just had to stop it there. You guys know by now how I just love my cliff hangers. The main danger is over, so we'll see how the drama unfolds now...
What do you think the results are?
P.S.- I have double checked my math on this entire story, making all of this completely and totally plausible. I hope you enjoy!
