We walked back home, and we could see that Sue's car was there. I turned and leaned my head against Seth's chest. Why did this feel harder than dealing with the Cullens?
"It'll be okay, starshine." He whispered to me, rubbing up and down my back. "Better to just rip off the band-aid."
I took a deep breath and nodded to him, holding his hand as we walked up the stairs to the house.
When we walked in, Sue was putting away groceries in the kitchen.
"How was the pack meeting?" She asked as we walked in together.
"It was fine." Seth replied to her. "Mom, we need to tell you something."
She turned to look at both of us with an unreadable expression, putting her groceries down.
"Well it could only be one of two things, and you wouldn't be as nervous looking with one of them, so go ahead son." She told us and I swallowed nervously.
"I'm pregnant!" I blurted out before Seth could respond to her. "We didn't mean for it to happen, I swear. I was supposed to get my shot again two days after I was bitten. It wasn't even a distant thought when I woke up… I'm sorry Sue, I promised you." I sobbed as she walked forward, tugging me into her arms in a motherly embrace.
"Shh, sweetie, it's alright. You need to calm down." She told me as she rubbed circles on my back. "Come on, let me make you a cup of tea and we'll sit down and talk about it." I pulled back and nodded.
She made me a cup of tea and we all sat down at the table.
"It was my fault, Mom." Seth began. "I should've known. My wolf clearly knew, but I didn't pay attention to the signs."
"Your wolf knew?" Sue asked him, causing him to smile nervously and scratch at the back of his neck while his face turned pink.
"Uh, yeah. One day she, um, you know, smelled really, really incredible and I, uh, couldn't pay attention to anything else… Lee kind of explained to me earlier that it was probably pheromones." Seth explained to her embarrassingly.
"I see. You both understand what kind of responsibility this is, don't you? Having a child isn't easy." She asked.
"We know, Mom." Seth told her and I nodded along.
"You will be finishing school." She stated to Seth without question.
"Bella's already gone down that road with me. I'll definitely finish school. Sam said the pack would help Bella out while I'm finishing school after the baby is born. And Sam said I could work for him this summer to save up some money." He told her honesty.
"You should be due around March then?" She asked me.
"Should be around March 13th, we guessed. I was hoping you could confirm." I responded, wondering if she'd be willing to.
"Of course, honey. You can come with me down to the clinic tomorrow. We'll do the ultrasound and I'll get you some prenatals." She said to me, placing her hand over mine. "Seth, after this one is born, please pay attention to your instincts. You don't need to have two children by the time you're 18 years old."
I had to bite my lip as I looked over to where Seth was sitting, completely red in the face, elbows on the table with his hands running through his hair.
"Got it, mom." He groaned.
"So you're not mad?" I asked her nervously.
"I can't be mad at you, honey. You went through a trauma and were more or less unconscious for 8 days. I can't blame you for missing your shot and not thinking about it afterwards. I can, however, blame my son for not picking up that something was different that day. Seth, if she randomly smells 10x better to you than normal on any given day, it's more than just a change of shampoo. You're a wolf, son, and she's your mate. Animals pick up on these things when humans don't, and their main instinct is to breed with their mate." We both turned a deep shade of red with that one.
"Well I know that, now." Seth grumbled at his mom.
"You know, I'd say I was surprised that my 16-year-old was going to be a father, but I honestly can't say that I am. I was hoping it would be further down the road, but accidents happen. Now Charlie might be a different story. At least Bella is 18 already and out of school with a stable job." Sue told us and I gulped.
"Any ideas on how to break it to him?" I asked her quickly.
"Just be honest and tell him soon. Don't tiptoe around the subject, he values honesty above all else. And don't look so worried, Seth. He's not going to shoot you. He might want to when he hears you got his baby girl pregnant, but he won't actually do it." She said with a small laugh, shaking her head.
"Thanks, mom. That's really reassuring." Seth muttered.
"So how do you both feel about this? It's big and unexpected news for you both." She asked us curiously.
"My wolf is over the moon. I'm nervous, but excited at the same time." Seth told her.
"I'm nervous too, but I'm happy about it. I think Seth will be a great dad." I replied, smiling.
"You'll be a great mom too, starshine." Seth told me, grabbing my hand. I was mainly nervous about that part.
"I didn't have the most responsible mom growing up. I was always more grown up than her, kind of an old soul while she's free spirit type of person." I explained to Sue. I'd already talked to Seth about her and I hadn't even talked to her in months.
"Renee was always like that. I was honestly surprised when she took you instead of leaving you with Charlie, and I think that she should have let him raise you here instead. You wouldn't have had to grow up so fast, honey." Sue told me. I hadn't known that she'd known Renee.
"You knew her?" I questioned.
"Of course, Bella. Your dad and I go way back to when I was still a Uley. He was our best man at my wedding to Harry." She explained to me. I didn't know she'd been a Uley. Was she related to Sam?
"I knew they were friends since school, but I guess I didn't ever think about it like that." I muttered.
"You know I dated your dad before I met Harry and he met Renee." Whoa, I definitely didn't know that.
"Charlie never mentioned…" I said, unbelieving.
"I didn't think he would have. It was such a long time ago. You know he was only with Renee for a couple months before he got her pregnant, so he can't judge you too harshly. It would be a bit hypocritical of him." Wow. Hadn't known that either.
"Well this has been enlightening, Mom. Bella and I should probably head to bed and think of when we're going to tell Charlie." Seth told her, getting up. I was still a bit in shock and he could sense it. "Come on starshine."
I stood up and followed him to the basement door, kind of on autopilot. When we got to the basement, he pulled me towards the bed to stand between his legs as he sat down.
"So my mom dated your dad…" Seth stated.
"I definitely didn't know that. I mean, it makes sense now that I think about it. Him and Sue are pretty close for her to just be the wife of one of his best friends…" I responded to him after a minute.
"Do you think they'll—" He cut himself off.
"I don't know. Would it be weird?" I asked him, still not knowing what to think about the entire situation.
"Well no matter what happens between them, we're not blood related, so it shouldn't matter. I wouldn't have imprinted on you if it had. I mean, they'll already share the same grandchild." He suggested.
"I can't think about this anymore tonight. Let's just go to sleep and figure out how to tell Charlie tomorrow." I told him.
He agreed and we went to bed with my mind still reeling at all of the new information. I still couldn't believe I was pregnant, then Sue dropping that bombshell on us. My sleep was uneasy, but I managed.
A/N- Sue knows, yay! What do you think about her bombshell? Did you expect that one coming?
