Scott dragged himself out of bed, quietly walking down the stairs so he could get the coffee started as soon as possible. He'd gotten used to sleeping in during the school year, purposefully choosing classes that didn't start too early. He figured he deserved the break after all the stress of high school. It wasn't particularly early now, but he'd gotten to bed so late the night before.
His talk with Isaac had been nice and now that his presence had fully settled back into Scott's mind, he was excited to get to know the other man again. Isaac had always been so closed off when they were younger, but now Scott saw him being more open than he'd ever seen and he wanted to take advantage of the opportunity. Scott also hoped to do the same with Allison. There was still a love there that hadn't gotten the closure it deserved. He was fully happy with Malia and saw she was happy with Isaac, but he was eager to erase their last moments together when he thought she was dying out of his memories. They all had time to make new ones now.
"How do you want your eggs? Do you still take them scrambled and just a tad bit runny?" Isaac asked, flipping a pancake onto a platter. Scott rubbed his eyes, shocked he hadn't heard the noise as he came down. Isaac was standing at the stove with Julian strapped to his back, while Celine was sitting at the table working her way through a stack of pancakes.
"Uh, yeah. Sounds great," Scott mumbled, stumbling over to the coffee pot. "What's going on? How are you so awake?"
"I'm a parent. You get used to running on barely any sleep," Isaac chuckled, sliding the sugar toward him. Scott focused his energy on getting his coffee ready and taking a few sips, needing the caffeine boost. He wasn't sure if it even did anything for werewolves, but just the routine of drinking it every morning made him feel better.
"Where's Allison?" Scott asked after a few minutes of watching Isaac move around the room as if he did this every day. He probably did.
"I'm letting her sleep in. Her and Chris pretty much took care of everything to do with the move while I watched the kids and focused on healing enough to make it through the plane trip. Airports don't really appreciate you bleeding all over the place," Isaac laughed, cracking a couple eggs into a bowl and mixing them.
"That they don't," Scott agreed.
"And I figured it was only right for me to make breakfast for everyone, since your mom was nice enough to let us stay here," Isaac said.
"You know you don't have to do anything for her. She loves you," Scott reminded him.
"It's still a lot to ask of someone. One random kid is a lot different than a whole family."
"But you are family, and that includes everyone," Scott insisted. "Even if you never came back, that wouldn't have changed."
"It's kind of strange being surrounded by people who aren't Argents. It's pretty nice," Isaac admitted, pouring a glass of milk for his daughter. "Celine, are you looking forward to getting to know Uncle Scott?"
"Uncle Scott?" Scott mumbled, scratching at his eyebrow.
"I don't know," the little girl replied, looking over Scott with a critical eye. He didn't know how he felt about being sized up by a kid. Scott barely had any experience with children at all.
"It's okay sweetie, he is an old friend of mine and mom's. Remember the story I told you about when I was young and didn't have anywhere to live?" Isaac asked, running his hand through her hair. "Uncle Scott and his mommy let me stay and join their family."
"Do I have to share baby brother with them?" she asked, staring up at Isaac with doe eyes.
"We'll keep an eye on them with baby brother," Isaac said with a wink. That seemed to calm her and she happily went back to her food.
"Uncle Scott?" Scott repeated, looking at Isaac with a raised brow.
"I can call you something else if you'd like. It just kind of felt right," Isaac shrugged.
"I think I like it. I never really thought I'd be an uncle, since I didn't have any siblings growing up, but now I have you. It's kind of fitting," Scott grinned, reaching a finger out to poke at the baby's foot. He could see Celine watching him like a hawk, but she didn't protest.
"What smells so good?" Allison asked, gliding into the room and sitting next to her daughter.
"You do," Isaac grinned, setting a plate down in front of her and giving her a peck on the lips.
"Isaac," Allison said lightly, patting him on the chest and tipping her head in Scott's direction.
"Oh shit, I'm sorry. Is this too weird? That's kind of a force of habit," Isaac stammered, looking completely embarrassed.
"No, don't even worry about it," Scott waved off. "My mom and Chris getting together was much more awkward."
"I can imagine," Allison chuckled, taking a sip of orange juice.
"It's like they forget about werewolf hearing," Scott groaned, cringing at the memories that flashed through his head. He might have to find another place to stay this summer.
"So, how long have you and Malia been together?" Allison asked, digging into her pancakes.
"Since the year after we graduated," Scott replied, nodding his thanks as Isaac handed him a plate.
"That's great," Allison said with a smile. "I hope you don't mind me asking, but what happened to Kira? I thought you two were really nice together."
"It's pretty complicated. She had to go away to take care of some personal things, so we decided to just be friends instead," Scott said, thinking back to the fiery girl he dated in high school. He still thought about her a lot and exchanged emails with her parents occasionally, just to check in.
"Well, I'm glad to hear she's okay. It's pretty amazing how many of us made it this far," Allison murmured, running her hand through her daughter's hair.
"You're right about that," Scott agreed. He told them about where everyone else was now; from Danny, who Melissa had run into a while back at the grocery store while he was in town visiting family, to Braeden, who still had an on and off thing with Derek, to Jackson and Ethan, who were still going strong.
"I knew it," Isaac chuckled, biting the end of his fork.
"No you didn't," Scott scoffed.
"You didn't see them at that rave," Allison giggled.
"Is there something you want to share with the class?" Scott asked, blinking in surprise. Isaac smirked, putting his empty plate down and moving the baby into his arms.
"I'm a happily married man, Scott. That's all that matters," Isaac murmured, feeding Julian bits of egg.
"Well, something sure does smell good," Scott's mom said as she walked into the room with Chris.
"I made enough for everyone, so help yourselves. If there is something you want that you don't see, just let me know and I'll whip it up for you," Isaac offered.
"I really have missed your cooking," she sighed, digging into the stacks of food.
"Wait until you try his beef bourguignon," Allison grinned.
"Oh, that sounds amazing," she said, giving Isaac a hopeful look.
"I should probably get to the grocery store to replace all the food I cooked. I can always grab the stuff for it and make it tonight," Isaac suggested. Scott's mom squealed in delight and kissed Isaac on the top of his head, making him blush.
"Now I'm really never going to let you leave."
"Let me just get the kids ready and I'll go. Do you mind if I borrow your car, Chris?" Isaac asked, wiping at the drool dripping from the baby's mouth.
"You know the kids can stay here with me, right? I'm just going to be researching places online," Allison said, stacking their plates up and taking them to the sink.
"I know, it's just," Isaac sighed, rubbing his cheek against the top of Julian's head, "I'm being ridiculous."
"You're not," Allison insisted. Scott noticed his mom shooting Chris a look, but he just shook his head. This was Isaac's story to tell. "How about I keep Celine and you take Julian? We can have a little girl time."
"And since you'll have my car, I won't be going anywhere at least until you get back. That is if Melissa is okay with me hanging out for a while," Chris said, running his fingers up her arm.
"You know, there are a couple things I could use from the store as well. Do you mind if I tag along?" Scott asked. He didn't really, but he was sure he could find something. Isaac reached over, squeezing his daughter's little hand.
"Don't worry, I'll protect Mama," Celine said seriously. Isaac let out a little laugh that sounded suspiciously like a sob, but no one said anything about it.
"I know you will," Isaac murmured, leaning over to kiss her temple. "We won't be gone long, right?"
"Right,"Scott agreed.
"And I'll text you updates, okay?" Allison said, walking over and cradling Isaac's head. He leaned back into her touch and closed his eyes. Scott had to look away, feeling like he was intruding on such an intimate moment. The kiss earlier didn't phase him, but this felt private and personal. "Let's go get dressed." Isaac nodded and stood up, Celine trailing after his every move as he made his way back up the stairs.
"Is everything okay?" Scott's mom mouthed, looking around the room.
"I'll explain later," Allison mouthed back, trotting after her family. Scott and Chris exchanged a look, since they both knew what was going on. He didn't think it would be hitting Isaac this hard, since he hadn't let on about it before, but Isaac's traumatic history did make things tricky. Things like this could pile up if you didn't find a way to work through it.
Scott went up to his room to get ready, purposefully tuning out the conversation Allison and Isaac were having in their room. He would talk to Isaac while they were out, as long as he was willing. Scott wouldn't push the topic, but he was going to let Isaac know that he'd be there for anything he needed. If he was an uncle now, that meant he was a brother, and he was going to live up to both of those titles.
