Note: Thank you for reading and the review! Reviews and views are definitely my muse. Also with the UK school terms and how things are called, may be wrong. I've tried to research and really hope I didn't mess it up. If I did please let me know and I will edit this chapter for accuracy.
It had been over a week since she saw Noah, Katherine slowly walked thru the corridors heading to the mirror booth. Inside the room held a red velvet chair for students to sit, across was a mirror with a grand golden frame. Taking out her mirror card she used a tokens, that were recieved by good behavior, to phone her father.
Patiently waiting, she was greeted with a warm smile from her dad. His hair glistened perfectly matching the same color as hers. His blue eyes were looking in her direction. Katherine gazed at his sculpted face, he was handsome and grand himself. The mirror made it look like the gentlemen staring back at her was a portrait instead his real life figure.
"Hello, my princess" his warm words made Katherine's smile finally appear.
"Daddy" Katherine whispered as she leaned closer to the mirror wanting a hug from him. Being one of the few people that made her feel better with a hug, she longed for his touch. Holding back tears from being lonesome, even though for the last three years she had been attending Cackles, at times she missed the days where she stayed with him.
"How is school" he asked as Katherine watched his attention fall upon the paper work that consumed his desk.
"Normal...studies are going well" she spoke truthfully. After the mess up earlier on in the year, Katherine was able to pick the B up in Potions. Earning an average of an A.
"Good. Good"
"How is Pentangles" she asked. Pentangles was another witching school, but for Wizards and Witches. Her father was on the board for that school, making decisions that would benefit the pupils. His blue eyes looked up from his paper work as Katherine watched his hands clasp together.
"We have been busy. But I know we plan to have a friendly spelling bee competition at Cackles...Pippa will attend"
Hearing Pippa's name could either mean a good thing or bad. She knew of her mother's once friendship with this woman, a friendship that was no longer. Katherine only met this barbie witch, what she imagined barbie would look like if she was a witch, a handful of times during her father's care.
"Have you decided on anything after Cackles...like a University" Simon continued.
Katherine had many options, but Wierdsister College was a place she knew both her parents wanted her to attend. Shrugging her shoulders she spoke.
"Not really, I have no idea what to even do after here"
Her father gave a warm chuckle. "You will figure it out."
"Before you go I have a question" she knew she was running out of time. So if she questioned about wolves, she needed to do it now. But knowing their wasn't much time she didnt want the answer to be rushed.
"Do you know a Joy"
Simon was going to take a sip of tea but stopped as his expression became uncomfortable. Allowing the tea cup to go back upon the saucer he was silent before speaking.
"Why" he asked.
Katherine didn't like her question being answered with a question, she felt that he was keeping a secret. Not wanting her to find out. Before Kathrine could tell him about finding the name on the wall outside , the door opened.
Maud stood nervous playing with her gold sash around her waist. "Sorry" the first year mumbled as Katherine turned her attention back to her father.
"We will speak later, my love" and his figure slowly vanished. Leaving the mirror to show only Katherine's reflection. Katherine turned back to Maud a bit annoyed. She just wanted to speak to her dad a bit more. Find out the questions that ran thru her mind.
"I am, so sorry" Maud said once more. Katherine shook her head. "Its fine...are you okay" she could see the distress upon the first year.
"Honestly...no...my parents are coming tonight and...well" she continued "I dont want them to be disappointed with all my mistakes I've made"
Katherine knew Maud was a bright child but her hanging around with Mildred and Enid, had its disadvantages. Maud had a record of breaking a good bit of rules, even if not all of it was her fault. Looking at the bright young witch Katherine stood up allowing Maud to sit.
"We all make mistakes Maud, as long as you learn from them"
"But, my parents. I don't want to disappoint them"
Katherine felt that statement in her heart. She could relate, never wanting to disappoint her parents. Wanting to live up to their expectations. Sometimes it was so draining. She had no comfort words for Maud anymore, instead she could relate.
"You'll think of something" Katherine said before leaving the first year. The first year that would think of a plan, a plan to make everyone forget her problems. But worst, to forget that Mildred and Enid were actually her friends. It would take a huge mistake to make it right.
Katherine sat covered in ash from Maud's solution to have everyone remember the truth. Hardbroom calling out all three of the girl's names filled the hall. Like many third years, Katherine was asked to clean up the mess. The girl's started to clean the mess the next morning with Ms. Bat's supervision. Ms. Bat made sure the girls were all using the correct chants to clean. Even though Maud made a mess, the learning skill was something Ms. Bat wanted the third year girls to learn.
"KitKat" Ms. Drill cheerfully called out as the PE, Flying teacher made her way toward Katherine and Esmerelda. Drill was a popular teacher amoung the pupils, she was one of Katherine's favorite. The nickname she made for Katherine was one that was given to her as a child, to her mother's disapproval. Esmerelda, did not have the same relationship with Drill. Esmerelda was one of Hardbroom's favorite pupils, it was no surprise to Katherine when heard the huff come out her friends mouth.
Katherine returned the smile to Ms. Drill as she listened to her teacher continue.
"Your mother would like you to collect potion ingredients" hearing the request made Katherine roll her eyes. She wasn't in the mood to collect ingredients.
"Why" Katherine whined as she took the list from Ms. Drill. "How should I know, I wasn't questioning" Ms. Drill answered while shrugging her shoulders.
Katherine looked down at the list and noticed her mother was sending her off toward the west not the east. Something that never happened, feeling that maybe her mother was finally trusting her. Katherine dashed outside and thru the gate, making sure she had her ingredient bag. First stop was Crystal Lake for a few of the slugs that lived in the rocks.
Once arriving at Crystal Lake, Katherine quickly dropped to her knees looking for slugs to collect in her pouch. Her hands worked as fast as they could to find the little creatures.
"Well...Joy, you must enjoy playing in the mud"
Katherine recgonized the twang voice plus the fake name she used once. She turned to face the boy. Rolling her eyes playfully as she continued to look for slugs. "No just looking for slugs"
"Odd" Noah said as he started to skip rocks on the lake.
Katherine stopped searching as she watched him. "How do you do it" she asked. The whole task seemed a bit hard. He motioned for her to come closer as he held a small pebble out for her. Once she was near her body started to feel warm. She had the feeling happen once before, her first year at Cackles. In the tower with Agatha, when she was watching the older witch perform the sleep curse potion. That's when Katherine had felt her body become warm in a comforting way. She had asked her father about it that same year, it was a protection spell her mother placed upon her. Katherine didn't know the full extent to the protection spell. That the same warm feeling a child felt, her mother would feel as well. The longer the warm feeling lingered, then a mother knew she needed to go and protect her child.
Noah's eyes fell upon Katherine as he made room for her to step even closer. Katherine was a bit hesitant.
"Trust me, it will be easier if I help guide you into each step" Noah's words calm and reassuring. Katherine looked the boy up and down, she took a closer step to him. The warm feeling within her body slowly was going away as she tried to push it away. Noah handed the stone and Katherine could feel that his body wasn't a normal cool temp. Instead he radiated off warmth, she rose a brow.
"Are you ill" she asked while grabbing the stone.
"No" Noah chuckled.
"You feel warm that's all" she added as she looked up into his hazelnut eyes. He wasn't smiling at first but looking down into her sapphire eyes. Slowly he pulled her closer to him allowing himself to fix how her fingers were gripping the stone.
"Relax, if your to tense the stone won't skip...trust me" ending with a subtle smile.
Katherine looked at the new hold she held the stone in as Noah continued to speak.
"So which school do you attend" he asked.
"Cackles Academy" Katherine left out the part of it being for witches. Hoping be wouldn't ask about the badge upon her uniform. The cat sitting on a crescent moon.
"Your going to flick your wrist" he showed her the correct motion "then release"
Katherine tried to mimick using the stone. When she released the pebble, it did not skip, instead it was sinking to the bottom. Katherine was a bit annoyed, most things came natural to her. Well, nonmagical things obviously did not.
Noah chuckled "your to stressed Joy, relax" he handed her a grey stone to try again. Once again it was a fail, Katherine just couldn't relax.
"Where are you from, Noah...your accent"
Noah smirked. "Can't fool any Brits, I'm from the states...the south region" Katherine had never met an American before. She knew about how nonmagical Americans had the whole Salem trial, but she didn't learn much of that land. Katherine smiled as she continued to try skipping, but failed.
She wondered if nonmagical Americans could see witches with the protection spell. But even that thought seemed almost as silly as thinking the wolf gave Noah a sight for magic. How could he see her though? It was a question that ran thru her mind.
"Why did you come here"
Noah shrugged as he placed Katherine's fingers in the correct spot on the stone once again. He gripped Katherine's shoulders and slowly moved them in a circular motion. "Relax" he whispered. "Honestly I just wanted a new adventure"
"No school" she asked not sure how the States education system worked.
"I'm seventeen and decided to take online classes. So I'm enrolled but nearly finished. May go off to a college, either here...or back home"
Katherine listened as she kept hold of the stone not releasing it.
"So..What are your plans after school" he asked.
"Honestly, I don't know what I want to do...my parents on the other hand would love for me to attend a certain school. To further my education"
"All parents would, but Joy...its your life...you have to do what you want to do"
After his words of wisdom Katherine released the stone. For the first time from many failed attempts. She made the stone skip, it wasn't far like Noah's. But it skipped, without magic. After a simple reaction of happiness from both teens. The pair decided to sit down and enjoy the cool breeze and company from one another. Katherine forgetting the main reason she was allowed to be out and about.
"Do you believe in magic" Katherine couldn't look at him. Not sure if he would accuse her of anything, she didn't plan to show him her magic either. Showing a nonmagical magic was against the code. The code book was something she knew before her alphabet as a child, thanks to Hardbroom.
"I do" with a soft chuckle as he laid on his back, leaving Katherine sitting up. "Where I'm from, people practice a thing call voodoo...we also believe in many things where I'm from..."
Katherine wanted to ask more but she realized the sunset was happening. It's like time slipped her mind speaking with Noah that she completely forgot what she was suppose to do.
"I have to go" Katherine jolted up, she had completely forgot all of the ingredients that was needed.
"I hope to see you again Joy" he called out.
"Bye Noah...you will" she yelled back as the blonde hair pupil ran as fast as she could back to the gate. The iron door was wide open and a witch stood in the opening.
Ada Cackle did not have a friendly face but instead a stern glare. Her purple blouse made the elderly woman's cheek seem red. Katherine slowly started to walk toward her Headmistress.
