Hey! This is just a short chapter to introduce the story... I had to make it so small because the next one was just too big. I really hope you enjoy this, please review if you did, or with any improvements! Enjoy :)

Arizona signed as she swapped her navy scrubs and white doctor's coat for her comfy jeans and cable knit sweater, pulling her hair out of its ponytail and making her way down to the car park. It hadn't been a good shift. A little girl that she'd been treating for three years had died in surgery and, as usual, she knew she'd be the next in a long line of patients whose deaths she had to forgive herself for.

Except she couldn't. Because every single loss, every time a child died, she couldn't help but rake over her actions with a fine-tooth comb, examining every survey in excruciating detail, searching for where she went wrong, for what she should have done differently. Most of the time, she knew she was making things up, that it was just one of those things and she had to let it go, but the hardest losses of all were when she knew what she should have done.

Laila hadn't been strong enough for the last surgery, Arizona had known that, and yet she'd done it anyway. She'd let her mother push her into doing it because her little girl had been all that woman had left. Until she'd killed her.

'Arizona!'

Callie snapped her out of her spiraling thoughts as she waved her over to where she was standing with Addison.

'Fancy a drink? Me and Addison were going to go to Joe's if you wanted to come.'

Arizona shook her head. 'No, thank you. I'm tired, it's been a long day and I don't feel like drinking. I'll see you in the morning. Night Calliope, Addison,' she muttered in a dull tone that was unusual for her. Normally, she could muster some enthusiasm around her girlfriend, especially when her friends were around.

But this time, it was different. This time, it was one too many.

'Oh, are you sure? Do you want me to come home with you? Addison and I can go out another night, she's staying for a few weeks to help the chief out with an OB/GYN case,' Callie offered, seeing how upset Arizona was and moving to kiss her cheek.

'No! I just want to go home and go to bed, so leave me alone, ok?' she snapped, which took her aback almost as much as it did her girlfriend, who glared at her before silently turning on her heel and marching back to Addison, who was studying her far too closely for Arizona's liking.

She turned on her heel and stormed out of the hospital without looking back, cursing herself for taking her anger and upset out on Callie.
