Damon knew now more than ever that he wanted to get out of the way and let Stefan take over as the head of household. That also entailed him getting Giuseppe to announce who his successor would be, and for his father to get over his hate of Katherine.

Damon was going to take Bonnie away. He found a house a few counties south of Mystic Falls. It was only an hour's drive away from Bonnie's family and he was hoping she wouldn't mind. He and Bonnie were going to have a happy ending if it killed him.

"Damon what's going on?" Giuseppe asked as his son entered his office.

"I wanted to talk. It's serious," Damon said with a slight smile.

"Well come in and have a seat," Giuseppe instructed his son.

"I think it's time Stefan took over things," Damon said getting to the point. "He's ready, and he wants it."

"I think you're right, I should make my decision soon," Giuseppe agreed.

"I'm glad you think so. I watched Stefan grow up, and he wants to make you proud," Damon agreed.

"I'm sure he does, but you have. You've made me really proud of you Damon, and that's why I'm giving all of this to you," he smiled.

Damon was taken aback. He couldn't believe his dad would give him the family business. He knew what an honor this was, but he didn't want it. This life was never meant for him, and now he had Bonnie to think about. He didn't want to live out his life here.

"I was going to tell you on your wedding day, but there's no time like the present," Giuseppe said.

"Father I can't," he said halting Giuseppe. "I can't do that to Stefan. He just...I can't marry Bonnie and turn around and take his birth right away from him."

"You're my son Damon, end of story! You've been running things on your own since you were ten. You earned this, and if Stefan can't be happy for his brother than maybe he should rethink his life choices and the people he's surrounding himself with."

"Is this seriously about Katherine, because I'm not going to be used to teach Stefan a lesson? I'm not going to hurt him so you can continue your feud with Katherine," Damon yelled.

"That's why I chose you. You care, you know how to keep the family together, and that's what we need. We need everyone doing their part no matter how they feel," Giuseppe said smiling proudly at his son.

"Family matters," Damon said reciting his first lesson in the business.

"It's the only thing that matters."

When Damon left his office Giuseppe placed a desperate call to his dear friend. "Thank you for calling Crain industries this is Whitney speaking."

"Hello Ms. Russell could you connect me to Teresa it's important," Giuseppe asked.

"Of course Mr. Salvatore, you have a nice day," she said immediately doing as he asked.

"Thank you." It did take long for Teresa to pick up. "Giuseppe what can I do for you?" Teresa asked.

"You can look into the matter I asked you before," he directed her.

"Damon can't get the house for another six months because of the bank act. The family living there gets six months to sell it before the bank, he's trying to buy it through, can. And once I get the papers for the family the house is all yours," Teresa said.

"Well he sales really confident in himself, he just came in here begging me to announce my successor," Giuseppe said as he popped a pain killer. His head was aching and he needed to get away.

"What did you tell him?"

"The only thing I could tell him, that he's my successor. I need him here for Stefan and Caroline if these trails don't go right. I want my kids together."

"And what about the Hopkins girl is she still a threat?"

"Not as much as Katherine is, but I need you to take out some extra insurance on both girls. They want into the family that's what they're going to get," he said laughing into the phone.

"I have something in mind for Katherine that will drive your point home, something that will kill two birds with one stone," Teresa said with a smile in her voice.

"You know I can't say know to that," Giuseppe laughed.

"Great I get everything ready for you and by the wedding everything should be as it should be Giuseppe," she said.

"And that is why we pay you the big bucks Mrs. Lopez-Fitzgerald Crain."

"I'm just doing my job Mr. Salvatore. I appreciate your business." Teresa knew without Giuseppe and his connection with in the trade she wouldn't have a business or any clients. After her husband died Teresa struggled for a while trying to keep ever sector of Crain industries afloat. Now she ran one of the world's largest "marketing" firms.

"Anytime."

Bonnie could pretend everything was okay for Caroline and Stefan, but she wasn't going to sleep next to Damon if he was going to be upset. It hurt watching him be so miserable and pretend he was fine. "What's wrong?" Bonnie asked setting on the sink watching Damon shave.

"Nothing," he said focusing on his reflection in the mirror. "Everything is fine."

"You lying to me...is it going to be a thing when we're married? We might have to write our vows to encompass something about not doing that," she smirked at him.

Damon washed his face and applied his after shave. "Everything is going to be okay," he promised as he threw a couple of drops of water on her from his fingertips.

Bonnie slid off the counter and rubbed his bare shoulders. "If you want someone to talk to I'm always here for you," she said before she kissed him.

Damon looked down at Bonnie and he just wanted to take her and run away. He didn't want any of his family responsibilities anymore. He just wanted her. "Marry me," he said, his tears making his eye glossy.

"I am," she smiled at him.

"I mean now, tomorrow. I just want you and only you. We can clear out our bank accounts and go somewhere far, and be happy-free," Damon yelled. "I need this. I need to have a normal life. I need you."

Bonnie looked up teary eyed at Damon. That was what she wanted more than anything. She just wanted to get away with Damon and be happy. She wanted to make him happy, but leaving Stefan and Caroline behind wasn't a Damon thing to do. She knew that something was really wrong. "What did you do? Are you in trouble?" she asked.

"No!" he yelled. "I just...I can't wait another day. Please?" he asked.

"I will, but tell me why? Tell me why you're willing to leave your brother and sister and not look back?" she said.

"I don't want to be my father. If I stay here another day I can't say that won't happen. I don't want to lose you. I don't want to hurt you, and I can't be a part of this family anymore," he said glad to finally get all of this off his chest. He was happy to be free from the pressure and guilt. He just wanted Bonnie.

"I know how you feel, but please don't do something because you think it's what I want. I don't want you to turn your back on your family. I love them too Damon," she said looking into his eyes.

"My dad isn't a good man. I want to be a good man. I want to be good for me. For my peace of mind, but for you too. You're worth it," he smiled at her.

Bonnie had to come clean. She couldn't leave just yet. She and Katherine were onto something. Something they all needed to know. "We have to wait. I promised Caroline a big wedding and I want to keep that promise. Is that okay with you?"

"I don't like it, but I understand. I love you Bonnie," he said kissing her.

"I love you too Damon. You're the best man I've ever known," she smiled up at him.

"You must know some really horrible people," he teased.

"They're your family," she shrugged.

"Touché," he laughed dragging her to bed.
