Reid was flat-lining

Morgan Panicked and instantly hit the button to bring a doctor in. In a blink of an eye, the once quiet room that consisted of just Morgan and a comatose Reid was now pouring with doctors and nurses. One of the nurses started backing Morgan out of the room and pushing him toward the waiting room where Rossi was still reading his magazine.

"Im sorry but you have to stay in here while we help your friend. We are doing everything we can." The nurse said as she was quickly backing up and back into the ER.

Rossi noticed the one-sided conversation and got up from his seat talk to Morgan. "What was that all about?" Rossi questioned.

Morgan either ignored him or didn't hear him. He simply stood dumbfounded staring at the double doors that his dying friend was behind.

"Morgan?" Rossi repeated a little louder

Morgan turned to face him and responded softly. "Reid flat-lined"

Rossi didn't know what to say to that. He thought the kid was doing better, to the point he was going to wake up in a few hours maybe. Morgan moved away from him and called Garcia to inform her whatever her plans were for Reid when he woke up would have to be put on hold.

"Garcia..." Morgan began.

"Garcia? What no witty introduction? I thought i was your baby gi-"

"Reid just flat-lined." Morgan interrupted.

"W- what?" Garcia simply said in shock.

"I know i felt the same way. listen just get back to the hospital I'm going to contact Hotch. He's at the cafeteria with JJ and Emily. whatever you were planning will have to be put on hold, hopefully only for awhile." Morgan told Garcia. He hung up the call and instantly called Hotch afterwords thinking out of the 3 at the cafeteria he would be the easiest to break the news to.

"Hotch" Hotch said after answering the call.

"Hotch its Morgan listen you need to get back to the waiting room now." Morgan stressed.

"Why whats going on?" Hotch got unnerved by the sound of his voice.

"Reid just flat-lined and the doctors kicked me out of his room." Morgan said.

"What? are you sure? I'm on my way up there right now I'll be there in 20 seconds." Hotch gasped.

"Yes I'm sure... although i wish I wasn't." Morgan said and then hung up on Hotch.

"Who was that?" Emily said sitting next to JJ.

"Yeah is there something wrong?" JJ said while eating her salad.

"That was Morgan.." Hotch paused, not thinking of any other way to break the news. "He told me that while he was sitting with Reid that his machine started beeping wildly but then flat-lined. We need to get back up to the waiting room now. Garcia should be on her way back and Rossi is still up there." Hotch said as he got up from his seat and started speed walking toward the elevator.

Emily was shocked hearing the news but responded accordingly not to raise panic to the rest of the cafeteria goers. she was about to get up and walk to the elevator too but noticed that JJ was basically frozen in place holding a fork mere inches from her face."

"JJ-" Emily started.

"He- he- Spence flat-lined? He can't flat-line he cant. he-" JJ started to softly hyperventilate.

"I know but sitting here isn't going to magically make him come back to us. We need to go to the waiting room with the others." Emily said to JJ as she was gently tugging her out of her seat to direct her toward the elevator. JJ eventually broke free from her panic and complied to where Emily wanted to take her.

Hotch briskly made his way into the waiting room with JJ and Emily on his tail. Rossi was there to greet them while Morgan was dealing with a distressed Garcia.

"What happened?" JJ had the courage to speak first.

"I'm not sure, one second I'm reading a magazine the next i see Morgan getting pushed out of the ER by a nurse saying he has to stay here while they help our friend. Then he dropped the bomb shell on me saying Reid flat-lined and thats all we know. no Doctor's have come in yet."

"Spence..." JJ quietly whispered to herself while taking a seat at the nearest chair fearing her legs would give out on her.

"JJ, don't go there. Rossi told us no doctor has come in yet to discuss what happened. No news is better than bad news right?" Emily said to JJ trying to comfort her.

"I cant lose Spence Emily he's my best friend and i cant have the last time i spoke to him involve me being mean toward him." JJ responded obviously needing more than words to comfort her. She needed her Spence.

A couple hours went by with everyone on edge on whether or not they should be thinking of what to say when Reid wakes up or what to say for his eulogy. suddenly the same doctor from earlier, Dr. Taylor came out when no one was paying attention. "Family of Dr. Reid?"

"JJ all but knocked the doctor over rushing out of her seat too eager to find out how her best friend is doing. "How is is? Is he.. gone? Please give me good news." JJ rushed out of her mouth in one quick breath.

"JJ calm down, the doctor wont tell us with with you breathing down her neck." Emily said gently pulling JJ back some by her shoulder.

"What? oh.." JJ said unaware how close she was to the doctor.

"It's alright. Sorry for the scare but Dr. Reid is fine. The reason he flat-lined was because his body temperature reached 105.2. We aren't quite sure of the cause of him getting that high of a fever but there didn't seem to be any immediate cause of concern. We hooked him up to medication and he's doing well now. Well as well as he was before all that happened. He is in a coma still and we aren't too sure when he will awake." Dr. Taylor informed the BAU agents.

All 6 of the agents heard the mention of the word when being used in terms of Reid's awakening as opposed to that dreaded two letter word that the doctor could have used and that made them all feel a bit more relaxed that the doctors treating Reid had hope that he would wake up.

"Is he okay now though? are we allowed in his room to see him again?" Hotch asked the doctor.

"Yes the room is cleared from all the mayhem, i would take you to see him but i believe you all know where his room is. The doctor said and waited until they said they did know for him to make his leave to see his other patients. The team didn't want to suffocate Reid by all going in there again so Morgan and JJ went in to see him first as the others sat impatiently in the waiting room, at least feeling a bit better knowing their resident genius will be okay.

JJ got into the room first with Morgan not far behind and she took the vacant chair next to his bed and took hold of his only free hand that wasn't being used as a pin cushion and began drawing gentle patterns on his palm with her thumb. "Do you think he is going to be ok when he wakes up?" JJ asked Morgan although refused to look at anything other than Reid.

"Yeah he'll be fine i don't think I've ever seen him hold a grudge longer than a day or two." Morgan stated thinking JJ was talking about his emotional state after the fight the two had.

"No i don't mean that, although i hope thats true because i couldn't live with myself if he doesn't forgive me. I mean do you think he physically will be okay? Like do you think the crash did something to him so that when he wakes up he wont be the same?" JJ said stressing the last word because she didn't know what to expect when Reid woke up. or what she would say to him when he did.

"Im not sure about that one JJ. All we can hope is that he does wake up soon and then we will go from there. Don't put too much on your plate all at once, focus on one thing at a time, and thats seeing pretty boy awake and shouting off statistics on hospitals." Morgan said jokingly trying to relieve some stress he could see JJ forming.

JJ laughed at that comment knowing thats definitely something Reid would do once he came to his senses. "Yeah you're right." JJ said but falling quiet after going back into stress-mode looking at him knowing she was the cause of it. Morgan noticed that She needed her alone time with him so backed out of the room and gave her some privacy.

"Hey Spence. Not sure if you can hear me or not, you'd probably tell me all about coma's right about now and the stats behind them. I just want to tell you how sorry i am for thinking that you would willingly have Henry get hurt. I was just in the heat of the moment and needed to relieve my stress out and decided to relieve it out on you and I'm sorry. Please come back to me Spence Henry needs you... I need you.." JJ said now tearing up clenching her hand over his and laying her forehead over both their hands to silently cry.

"do-t.. c- cry."

JJ stopped crying for a second but didn't lift her head up. She thought she heard something but decided it was just her head playing with her because she was so exhausted.

"Don't... cry"

JJ lifted her head up from Reid's hand because she definitely heard something, a faint but familiar voice. She noticed that Reid was trying to open his eyes.

"Spence?" JJ softly said while composing herself and tightening her grip on his hand.

Finally Reid lifted his eyelids (although not much, but enough to see his friend sitting next to him.) and opened his mouth. "Don't cry, JJ."

"Spence. Thank god. You're awake." JJ said internally thanking anyone and everyone who made her best friend wake up.

"What happened?" Reid said a bit confused.

"What do you mean?" JJ said now quite concerned.

"Why am i at the hospital?" Reid replied back softly, still confused as to what happened to him.

"What's the last thing you remember?" JJ said trying to keep her composure for her bed ridden friend. Calm down JJ don't go where your mind is taking you. He said JJ to you so he knows who you are and he knows he's in the hospital. JJ thought to herself tying to calm herself down.

"The last thing i remember is taking Henry to the park? Because you told me if I wouldn't mind if i could watch over him while you and Will went out." Reid replied.

"Reid that was a little over a day ago." JJ said

Author's Note: Sorry but I'm back now. Fanfiction went down for me so i couldn't upload more chapters but I'm back now. Anyway's the twist is out, Reid has amnesia, granted its only like a day of memory lost but i think you guys can fill in the gaps as to what the next chapter will consist of.
