Im going to lie to him
It's been a couple days since Reid woke up from his coma. He is still at the hospital but out of the ER and in a normal hospital room. Everyone has gone and talked to Reid and expressed their gratitude towards his recovery. Even Will stopped by but JJ told him not to bring Henry along as she didn't want to run the risk of having Henry expose the truth that she didn't want to let free.
JJ also hasn't told Reid why he was in the hospital yet. Well Dr. Taylor told Reid why he was in the hospital, because he got hit by a car, but he hasnt been told why he got hit by a car. Nor the events that lead up to that unfortunate event.
During JJ's time off that Hotch ordered her to take to recover with Henry she went to go visit Reid while everyone else was on a case in Colorado.
"Hey JJ." Reid said as he saw JJ walk into his room.
"Hey Spence, how are you feeling." JJ replied
"Pretty good, my chest is starting to feel a little better but it sucks that my arm is broken. Luckily it's my left hand since I'm right handed. At least i can go back to work and do consults until i get 100%."
"Ha. Leave it to my Spence to want to go back to work so urgently. Can't you just be be glad you with a little time off?" JJ said.
"Not when you've counted the ceiling tiles like 100 times out of boredom." Reid said.
JJ laughed and sat down in the chair beside his bed. "Well, i guess you would be happy to know that i spoke to Dr. Taylor and he said if his next checkup with you goes well and you want to, he will sign your discharge papers this afternoon and you can finally go home." JJ said happy to finally see Reid turn into his normal self.
"Thank the lord, i cant wait to finally sleep in my own bed and make a cup of coffee with an unholy amount of sugar." Reid Joked.
JJ chuckled back at thinking about the way Reid likes his coffee.. and how much of it he drinks. "Im sure you are."
"So anyways, I just realized that the Doctor told me the why as to me being here, getting hit by a car and all causing my broken ribs and broken arm etcetera but he didn't explain why i got by the car. I mean i don't think I'm that clumsy to just walk into on coming traffic, right?" Reid pondered for a minute.
JJ tensed for a minute internally thinking about how Reid did get hit by the car and realized thats basically how it happened... he just walked into it. "No, of course you wouldn't just walk into it..." JJ began, finally ready to tell Reid the lie she had a couple days to think about. "What happened was that after you took Henry to my apartment from ur walk in the park i offered you a ride home but you declined, saying you were fine walking home as you don't live far to me. I didn't think anything of it so said ok goodnight just be safe as it was dark out. what i was told was that as you were walking on the sidewalk there was this drunk driver who was too drunk to pay attention to anything and veered to the right suddenly and you didn't have the reaction time to dodge so you got hit." JJ said, hoping it was as believable as she thought it was.
Reid took a second to absorb what JJ told him causing JJ to tense hoping he believed her and she can just move on and never have to think of the real reason ever again.
"Oh wow. That- thats crazy. was the driver hurt?" Reid finally said
"I don't believe so, i think he was too drunk to feel pain." JJ sorta lied. The real driver who hit Spence was in fact unharmed but that driver was also completely sober.
"Well thats good even though it wasn't really my fault you know how much i hate being the cause of someone getting hurt, even unsays sometimes." Reid admitted.
"Yes i do know and thats one of the reasons i love you and made you Henry's godfather." JJ cringed internally saying that last part because she remembers all to well the last thing she told Reid before he got hit.
You are a horrible godfather!
"Yeah, remind me next time i should probably just listen to you and take that car ride you offer." Reid said changing the topic.
"Yes maybe you should." JJ said.
"How is Henry doing? I haven't seen him since this whole ordeal."
"Henry's great he cant wait to see you, I didn't really want him seeing you in the hospital and get all upset, i just told him you had a big boo boo that needed a couple days to heal but once you were healed you'd come visit." JJ said
"Yeah I wouldn't want Henry to see me like this. But maybe tomorrow i can stop by and see him? If i do get out of here this afternoon I'll probably want the rest of the day to relax and get back into the swing of things." Reid said.
"Sounds good to me cant wait. And yes that's what id like for you to do too. I'd like you to be properly rested so you don't hurt your healing body." JJ said
"Me too JJ, me too." Reid said.
JJ and Reid talked for a couple hours about random topics until Dr. Taylor walked into his room to do his final checkup.
"So? What's the word doc? am i free to go?" Reid said anxiously.
"Hah, looks like your enthusiasm was undamaged throughout this whole ordeal." Dr. Taylor began. "But to answer your question, yes i do believe that it is safe enough for you to go head on home. but there are a few stipulations."
"What are the stipulations?" JJ asked too curious to wait for Reid's answer.
"Well first off i think the obvious is to not over due work. I know being in the FBI that can be tough but try to limit urself, and to take frequent breaks if you start feeling tired. secondly make sure that cast stays secured and if you ever feel it getting lose come back here and we can fix it. you should be in that cast for 6-8 weeks." Dr. Taylor said to both JJ and Reid. JJ nodding to make sure Reid actually follows the doctors orders and doesn't find a "second opinion"
"Am i permitted to travel with my team on cases?" Reid asked curiously
"Yes i am permitting you to travel with the team as a broken arm doesn't hinder your mobility as much as say a broken leg would. But for being out on the field i would limit it to just going to family's houses to chat with them and to not bust down doors or be in a situation to unholster your gun." Dr. Taylor slightly chuckled at the last part.
"Oh you don't have to worry about Spence busting down doors, he couldn't do that before he got hurt anyway." JJ laughed just thinking about seeing Reid attempt to kick a door down.
"Hey! You know my hearing wasn't damaged when i got hit right? and that I'm like right here in front of you." Reid pouted.
JJ and Dr. Taylor just laughed between themselves. "I know Spence i was only kidding."
"So anyway apart from what i already said i don't think you should have to deviate from your schedule if you include those things in it. Do you have any more questions on ur stipulations?" Dr. Taylor asked.
"No i don't think I do." Reid said as JJ just shook her head.
"Ok, well you two sit tight and I'll go get your discharge papers signed and you will be free to go.
"Sounds good" JJ said
Dr. Taylor left to sign the papers and came back with them for Reid to sign. After that was all done Dr. Taylor left to only come back a minute later with a wheelchair.
"Oh thanks for the offer doctor but i think i can walk out of here." Reid said
"Sorry but hospital policy." Dr. Taylor said.
Reid just pouted as JJ laughed "It's ok Spence, Morgan isn't here to make fun of you." JJ said as she patted the wheelchair for Reid to get in
"I know I know. i still don't like it tho." Reid said with a pout.
"I can tell." JJ chuckled.
Once JJ wheeled Reid outside and to her car she helped him in the passenger seat and then walked to the driver side and started driving to his apartment.
"Thank you JJ for taking me home by the way." Reid said looking over at JJ
"No problem Spence, it's the least i could do." JJ replied quickly glancing over to Reid.
JJ pulled into the parking lot at Reid's apartment and turned the engine off.
"What are you doing?" Reid questioned.
"Im going to walk you to your apartment?" JJ shrugged not thinking much of it.
"You don't have to it's not that far of a walk." Reid said
"No no it's okay, I insist. Besides what type of friend would i be if i let my best friend collapse on the ground by himself on his way to his apartment." Or what type of best friend would i be to assume to think you would let Henry get hurt and call you a horrible godfather. JJ thought and tried to hold back a tear that wanted to come out thinking of that.
"Ok i wont argue with that logic." Reid said breaking her from her trance."
"Good now let's go." JJ said and hurried out the car and to Reid's side incase he needed help getting out.
JJ walked Reid inside the complex and up the 3 flights of stairs as the place didn't have an elevator and to his front door.
"Welp here we are." Reid said as he inserted his key into the doorknob and opened the door.
"Yes we are." JJ said as she walked in behind him nonchalantly.
"Uh JJ? Not that i don't mind company but what are you doing?" Reid said noticing JJ entering his apartment as well."
"Oh, i just thought while i was here id make sure you get situated well before I left." JJ replied.
"Well thanks for the kind gesture but i was just planning on taking a quick shower, make something quick to eat and probably go and take a nap, I'm still super tired from all of this." Reid said
"Oh okay, I'll let you go. I'm just glad that you are okay now." JJ said as she pulled Reid into a hug.
"I am, no small thanks to you. If it makes you feel better I'll text you later on how I'm feeling unless I'm already asleep." Reid said
"I would like that. Well I'll head on out, are we still on for tomorrow?" JJ asked
"Of course. I'll see you tomorrow." Reid answered.
"Ok see you then." JJ said with a wave as she exited Reid's apartment. Reid waved back and gently closed the door.
"It looks like things are going back to normal between us. I just hope that tomorrow Henry doesn't spoil anything i don't want Spence to know about." JJ thought to herself.
It turned out she didn't need to worry about Henry spoiling anything, because her day would soon take a turn she wished never happened.
Authors Note: Welp if I'm thinking right this next chapter should be the last. I never expected this story to be this long but i guess time flies when you write. Hopefully i write out what i want to have happen the right way and a way that makes sense. We will see. Hope you enjoy the story so far!.
