The flower girl and ring barrow just entered the church. Bonnie paced the floor waiting for her que to enter. She was soon met by Giuseppe. Kol was supposed to walk her down the aisle. She swallowed hard when she looked up and saw him smiling at her. He turned towards the double doors and offered her his arm. "I know how important it is for a girl to have her father walk her down the aisle," he said. "I just wanted to share that feeling with you. I know you truly love my son."
"I do love him," she said not liking how condescendingly he said that.
"I'm sure. However, I want you to know two things. One, you may be marrying my son, but you-my dear belong to me. You are my property-both of you are really. Nothing will ever change that. Am I clear?" he asked.
"Yes sir," Bonnie mumbled irritated.
"And second, Damon may love you more than he's loved any other girl he's fucked, which isn't saying much, but he will always love his family more. There is nothing you can do to change that Ms. Hopkins," he said smiling down at her as the double doors opened.
Bonnie's heart pounded loudly in her chest as she thought over Giuseppe's words. Damon loved her more than anything, and they were a family. No matter what his father thought, Damon really loved Bonnie. She saw it in his eyes as he stood smiling at the alter waiting for her.
"You all may be seated," The preacher said once Bonnie and Giuseppe reached the alter. "Who gives the woman to marry this man?"
Giuseppe smiled down at Bonnie silently reminding her that she was his property, "I do." After that moment everyone melted away. Bonnie and Damon stood facing each other with the happiest smiles on their faces.
Damon mouthed you look hot to Bonnie, and she blushed and thanked him. A couple of times throughout the ceremony Stefan had to clear his throat to remind them to pay attention to the priest. They were in their own world and everyone got to see what Caroline and Stefan saw in the couple. They got to see the magic they created for one another. Damon sparked a light in Bonnie that was brighter than the sun. Bonnie in turn made Damon's eyes sprinkle with life and love.
Stefan and Caroline looked on adoringly as they shared in their brother's happiness. Ever since they could remember Damon was always bossing them around and doing things for them that a father would. It was nice that he could have someone make him this happy. As they said 'I do' Caroline broke down crying.
"Oh great," Katherine mumbled from behind her. "And I actually thought you'd make it through this tear free," she teased as she handed the insulted blonde a tissue.
"Shut up Kat," she said faking annoyance as she took the tissue and dabbed the corners of her eyes. Caroline and Katherine carried Bonnie's train as they left the church to take pictures. The couple spent most of that time making out.
"How does it feel to be Mrs. Damon Salvatore?" Damon whispered in his wife's ear.
"Like heaven," she said as she gazed into his eyes. "You make me feel like I'm in heaven," she smiled.
"That's because you're my personal angel," he said kissing her nose.
"Hey, save some of that for the honeymoon," Katherine warned. "No one wants to see you eating each other's face over a three course meal."
"Excuse you it's five courses," Caroline said as if that was an insult to her wedding planning.
The group laughed and everyone felt a lightness in their hearts. It felt like none of the happening in the world, the shit in their lives, nothing mattered in that moment. They were together, and that was all that mattered.
The wedding party finally entered the reception hall. Caroline coordinated an eight minute dance that encompassed the couple's first dance. Damon wasn't much of a dancer and was surprised at how good Bonnie was. She was quite modest about her years of dance training and acceptance to Julliard. Typical Bonnie, Damon thought. As he remembered their first dance class. The first song "Save the Night" by John Legend was a wedding party dance song Caroline envisioned Damon trying to get Bonnie away from the wedding party.
Everyone felt she was watching too much So You Think You Can Dance, and Dancing With The Stars. The second song was "Made to Love" also by John Legend, and it was the song Bonnie picked. It also kick started Caroline's wedding dance fantasy. The song had a great beat that Bonnie loved, and it was a perfect tango song. That was Bonnie's favorite ballroom style. Her specialty, really. Damon tried his hardest to keep up with Bonnie, but he knew the music moved her.
She was into the rhythm and he loved the blues. The words to the song encompassed how he felt about Bonnie. It was their song. He was made to love her. It was his only purpose for being on this earth. "Not bad for an old man with two left feet," Bonnie said with a wide smile and a gentle kiss on her husband's cheek.
"You give some pretty back handed compliment," he said with a frown winning him a hearty laugh. He loved making her laugh.
After dinner the couple schmoozed with the attendees talking to them about their plans for the future. Damon joked about their dog Rufus and septuplets. Bonnie told them that she was sure they'd have seven cars named and housed as their seven kids. Everyone loved Bonnie, and Damon truly couldn't keep his eyes off of her. He always heard guys talk about their wives being the center of their world, and their best friend. He always thought it was hogwash and didn't believe any of it. That was until now. Bonnie wasn't the center of his world she was his world, period. Damon realized he spent his entire life floating in space, and when he met Bonnie he finally crash landed to Earth-hard.
Somewhere in the chaos of the night, the pair were separated and Bonnie was at a table with Caroline talking to Marcel's parents. The girls laughed with them as Marcel snuck up behind them with his half-sister Davina. He wrapped his arms around Bonnie from behind and swayed her in his arms. They looked adoringly at one another as Caroline talked to Marcel's parents. The two were jolted back into the conversation when Marcel's father said something directed at Bonnie that made everyone laugh.
On the outside looking in, Damon couldn't help but see how happy Bonnie and Marcel looked together. It looked like she was his bride the way she looked so comfortable in his arms. Finally, Marcel let her go so Davina could hug Bonnie. The two looked like old friends catching up. Bonnie would be married to Marcel by now if it wasn't for that fateful day at the hotel. Damon wouldn't have Bonnie if he didn't find out about Rebekah's cheating, and they wouldn't be having their baby. The thought of the loss was enough to make his stomach turn and his heart ache.
"Hey you look like you just eat some of Rebekah's cooking," Mason said as he and Stefan came over from the bar.
"Close," he said taking his drink from Stefan.
He followed his brother's line of sight to where Bonnie was standing with Marcel. Stefan knew Marcel wasn't a threat, but he and Bonnie looked good together. Something about their ease with one another made things between them seem romantic when there was no romance to speak of. "You're being crazy," Stefan whispered in his ear as Bonnie saw them looking and waved. "That is a happy woman, and she's that way because of you."
"I think I need another drink," Damon smiled. "Family shots," he smiled at his boys.
"We need to get the whole family together," Mason smiled going to gather everyone.
"Father's already at the bar with Tyler and Kol. I'll grab the girls," Stefan said.
"I'll get Bonnie and Caroline."
"Be nice to Marcel," Stefan warned.
"I always am," he smiled.
"Yeah of course," Stefan said with an unamused smile.
Damon took a deep breath and walked over to his wife and sister. "Hello everyone," he said first nodding at Marcel's parents respectfully and then at him. "You mind if I still these two from you."
"It wouldn't be the first time," Marcel said with a smile. It was a joke but Damon felt the hostile undertone there.
"Come say goodbye if I miss you before you leave," Bonnie said kissing him on the cheek.
"I will," he said kissing her hand. He did the same to Caroline, but it still bothered Damon.
"Mr. and Mrs. Gerard, Davina," Damon said as he led the girls away, and he winked back at Marcel who was clearly upset.
"What are you pulling us away for?" Bonnie asked.
"Family bonding," he laughed.
"You know Bonnie can't drink in her condition," Caroline whispered.
"Shut up, Stefan still doesn't know about her condition, and she can't drink in any condition," Damon teased.
"I'm standing right next to you two if you hadn't noticed."
"We did," they said together and laughed at her annoyance with them.
"Pull up a chair love," Kol said signaling Bonnie over next to him.
"Wife," Klaus said to Caroline. It was the first word he's said to her all day.
She was irritated that his possessiveness knew no bonds, and that she made the mistake of marrying him. "Ass," she said making a show of wrapping her arms around Tyler as she sat on his lap.
"May I have a word," Klaus said clearly upset with her and her public display of defiance.
Caroline huffed and followed him. "This better be quick. My brother just got married to my best friend. I don't want to spend this day arguing with you, a total none factor."
"This total none factor as you put it, happens to be your husband. And he is quite tired of your insolence. This little charade with you and Tyler is over." He smiled at her. "I understand that we've had our trouble, but he was your first love, and I do fully intend on being your last."
"If that was you trying to be sweet it didn't work. Tyler and I aren't reliving some childhood fling. I love him more than I've ever loved anyone. He sees me as a partner, a friend, an equal. All the things you tricked me into thinking we were. I was just a trophy to you Klaus, and I'm not going back on the shelf. You're the one that's my past, and don't forget that," she held up the hand that used to house her wedding band. "I meant it when I took off my ring. I'm over you and I'm over what we had."
Klaus grabbed her arm when she tried to walk off. "If anything ever happened I'd be the only one that could protect you. Tyler would be in jail and you'd be by his side. There is nothing he can do for you," he smirked.
"This is a family business, we look out for each other, and I'd rather sink with Tyler then float with you," she hissed at him.
On the other side of the ballroom Stefan and Melissa were talking about everything and nothing as Katherine watched. He promised her he'd be a second when Melissa called him over. All Stefan talked about the past couple of days was "Melissa is so this, and she said that" it made Katherine sick. "Do you want to join the family for a round of shots?" Stefan asked her.
"She's not family, it's a family tradition," Katherine smirked.
"You're not family either are you Ms. Pierce?" Melissa asked forging an innocence Stefan could never seem to see through.
"I'm a part of the wedding party and Stefan's girlfriend, I'm honorary," she grinned.
"I'm an honorary part of the Salvatore family too, at least I'd be welcomed I'm sure," she said making Katherine glare at her. And of course Stefan over looked her jabbed at their relationship status with his father.
"Of course you'd be welcomed, Damon loves you," Stefan smiled.
"I still think we should just keep it in the family," Katherine mumbled.
"Katherine." She smiled at Stefan innocently as he called her name.
"Yes love," she said as she cupped his cheek adoringly.
"Be nice," he whispered.
"Ask Santa, I always am," she winked at him. Then she kissed him passionately. "Love you."
"I love you too," he said kissing her nose.
"Let's party," Melissa said linking arms with Stefan and leading him to the bar.
Bonnie sat between Kol and Damon laughing with everyone. Kol was telling a story about some ancient tree they dug up as kids that had a wasp nest in it. The kids spent all week digging out the roots thinking they were going to save the day by getting rid of the tree. Somehow one of them caused it to tip over. Mason was sure he saw Elijah leaning on it, but Elijah claimed it was Klaus, Klaus contributed very little of a rebuttal only saying it wasn't him. It was their annual Fourth of July gathering at the big house and the wasp hive cracked open and the wasp attacked everyone standing on the back patio.
"Are you going to drink anything stronger than tea? It's your wedding night live a little," Katherine teased. She was trying to pay Bonnie back for not telling her she was preggers.
"Yeah Bonnie have some of this you'll like it," Kol said.
"Trust me tea's too strong for this one," Damon laughed at his wife. "If she has a shot there'll be no wedding night," he said with a wink.
"Damon," she warned as everyone laughed.
"Love you," he said giving her an Eskimo kiss. Bonnie simply furred her brow and continued to nurse her virgin long island ice tea.
"I think you owe me a dance Mrs. Salvatore," Stefan said as he bowed to Bonnie and held out his hand to her.
"Hey! It's like every time I try to spend five minutes with my wife one of you stills her away," Damon said sounding like the jealous little brat he was.
"I'm sure you can share your wife for one minute. After all you're going to spend the rest of your life with her what's five mintues,"-
"Ten, Bonnie promised to teach me to wobble," Kol said.
"And we need group pics of us girls," Caroline added.
"I hate you all," Damon frowned.
"Awe I'll be right back," Bonnie said giving him a kiss.
"He's only acting like that because he's not the center of attention for ones in his life," Kol said teasing him. "Don't fall for his crocodile tears."
"I love how much of an attention whore Damon is," Bonnie said pecking him on the lips before she disappeared on the dance floor with Stefan.
"You wanna dance?" Katherine asked Damon.
"Why would I do that you hate me?" he asked the tall brunette.
"I don't hate you?" she said forging hurt. "I merely detest you. We're family there's some kind of love then," she said giving him her sly smile.
Damon stood and took her hand. "For some reason I feel like I might regret this," he grumbled as they walked to the dance floor.
"I just want to talk," Katherine said smiling at up at Damon.
"About?" he asked with furred brows.
Katherine was much for goodbye or grand gestures of kindness, but Bonnie and reluctantly Damon meant something to her. They were her family and they allowed her to be a part of the happiest day of their lives. She was going to give them a gift be fitting of the kindest they've shown her. She was going to help aid in their freedom. "Earth to Katherine," Damon sung when a long silence swept over them.
"Don't come back," Katherine said looking up into his eyes.
"What?" Damon said sound both insulted and confused.
"When you and Bonnie leave don't comeback. No matter what happens-don't come back," Katherine urged him.
"I don't plan on it," he reassured her.
Katherine simply nodded and they fell into a comfortable silence. Katherine was the first to speak this time, "What are you going to tell Stefan?"
"I don't know," Damon said looking over at his little brother and wife laughing and dancing in the middle of the dance floor beside Caroline and Tyler.
"They'll be fine without you," Katherine said following Damon's line of sight. "I'll make sure their fine without you two," Katherine promised him.
"I know they'll be fine without me. That's not the problem I don't know if I will be fine without them. "
"You people and your handicapping codependence on each other is driving me up a wall," Katherine hissed. "Do you want to be happy with Bonnie and your baby?"
"Shh," he warned as he looked around and smiled at a couple passing by them. "Stefan doesn't know and I'd like it if the rest of the world didn't either."
"Oh please everyone knows that's not a bridal glow Bonnie's sporting and for you two to go from loathing to loving in six months is a little fishy to everyone," Katherine teased.
"People can be suspicious all they like," he smiled.
"Just listen to me Romeo and stay whenever you plan on going. Be happy, get a blue collar job, buy a house with a white picketed fence and a dog name Rex. Have your happily ever after with Bon-Bon and leave the rest to me," she smiled.
"Why are you doing this again?" he asked.
"Because I… care about you two," she choked out looking everywhere but at Damon.
"What was that you said the music was too loud I missed it?" Damon said pretending he didn't hear her. Katherine turned to him and shot him a look that said he shouldn't push her buttons. Damon simply shot her a questioning look. "You were saying?"
"I care about you, okay you happy," she said quickly continuing to look everywhere else in the ballroom.
Damon twirled her around and dipped her. "That's really sweet of you," he smiled at her.
Stefan and Caroline gave a joint speech as their toast to the bride and groom. The two were out to embarrass Damon as much as they could and praise Bonnie every breath they took. Damon loved every word of it. He admire the loving words his brother and sister bestowed upon him and his wife. Bonnie was blubbering like a big baby by his side.
"Please Bon-Bon you're pregnancy hormones are driving me crazy," Katherine said as she came back to their table with another box of tissues.
"Wait you're pregnant Bonnie?" Tyler questioned aloud.
"Sshh," the trio hissed at Tyler.
"Great the whole world is going to know before our honeymoon is over," Damon mumbled to himself.
"I can keep a secret Damon," Tyler frowned at him.
"Yeah about as well as this one," he said pointing at Katherine.
"Hey I assumed Caroline already told him," she shrugged.
"Shockingly my big mouth sister doesn't seem to be the big mouth in this situation," Damon said bogging his eyes at Katherine.
"Sorry," she shrugged and raised her drink to the couple as is nothing ever happened.
Damon carried Bonnie over the threshold to their hotel room. Their flight was to leave Atlanta international at 12pm the next day and Bonnie was exhausted. Truthfully Damon was too, but he was willing to wait it out for some wedding night loving. Bonnie dramatically fell back onto the bed, and Damon crawled on top of her. "Would you be terribly disappointed if we just went to sleep?"
Damon growled against her neck and propped himself up to look into her eyes. "But it's our wedding night, it's like tradition," he smirked at her.
Bonnie smirked back. "It's also tradition for the couple's first time to be their wedding night," she throw back at him.
"Every time I'm in you feels like the first," he whispered in her ear.
"Goodnight Damon," Bonnie said pushing him away.
"I bet you'd give it up to Marcel," he grumbled under his breath.
"What did you just say about Marcel?" Bonnie asked only haring his name.
"Oh nothing, but since we're talking about Marcel"-
"Are we?" Bonnie asked sensing a fight coming on.
"Yeah we are, and how you've guys have been going on dates behind my back?"
"We haven't been going on dates, and I told you I wanted to talk to him before I even asked Marcel to meet me," Bonnie yelled.
"Well you didn't mention the part about this being an ongoing thing. You made it seem like you were go to meet, confess your undying love for me"-
"Oh I think I feel it fading," she mumbled as he said-
-"And that was going to be the end of it. Then you two were gazing in each other's eyes the first chance you got," he groaned as he lay back in bed. Bonnie smirked over at Damon. She liked it when he as jealous. It was cute the way his eyes narrowed and he pouted.
Bonnie lean over and placed a gentle kiss to his lips. "I love you Damon, and it will always be you and only you that owns my heart," she said snuggling up next to him.
Damon took Bonnie in his arms and kissed the top of her head. "I know I do I just know you are amazing and beautiful, and a pain in the ass," he said and laughed when she elbowed him in this side. "Any guy would be foolish not to try and take you away."
"They can try all they want, but I'm all yours," she said grabbing his hand and displaying their wedding bands side by side.
"That you are," he smiled at the image of their hands joined.
Rudy got into his home office with a stack of mail Abby set aside for him. Abby went on a cruise with Sheila and they were having some mother daughter time since Sheila finally called it quits at the college and retired. Most of it seemed to be junk so he pressed play on the answering machine.
Rudy made his way behind his desk and didn't pay much to the first message as he sat in his large desk chair. Then he heard it. His little angel's voice. A lump settled in his voice as he replayed her words over and over again to be sure it was her. "I miss you guys so much. I'll be home soon." She was coming back. She was alive.
Rudy grabbed the tape out of the machine and grabbed his coat. He made his way do the street to Martin's so he could get his partners help on reopening his daughter's case and bring her home.
