Chapter 8

It's Sebastian's birthday and I got him a big surprise. He will be overjoyed when I give it to him. He loves cats so I got him a kitten from the neighbor downstairs from us. Her cat had kittens and I thought I'd get him one since he loves cats. Every time we are out on the street for a walk and he sees a stray cat he goes straight up to it. His friends Will and his new wife have a cat and he adores it.

Sebastian walks in from his late class and I smile at him. "I have a surprise for you." I say. He smiles and looks at me with suspicion. "Close your eyes and sit on the couch." I say. He does and I go to the bathroom to pick up the six week old fluffy gray kitten. I walk out with it and tell Sebastian to hold out his hands and I place it there. He opens his eyes and he looks shocked to see the tiny kitten.

"You didn't!" he says in shock.

"I did. I know you love cats and wanted one so when the neighbor downstairs told me she had kittens I asked for one. I think it's a boy she said." I answer as he pets it and cuddles it to his chest. I can see this is the best gift he could ever ask for.

"Thank you. I love him." He says and stands up and leans to kiss me.

"He needs a name." I say and pet it's soft head.

"Shadow." He answers. I nod in agreement.

We go to dinner to celebrate his birthday and then spend the rest of the night in each other's arms passionately. I fall asleep against his chest and he holds me tight to him.

I wake up coughing badly and my chest feels tight like I'm having an asthma attack. Sebastian wakes up too and sees me grab my inhaler and I gasp for air. It's not working. I can't breathe. "What's wrong?" He asks in worry.

"I can't breathe!" I say gasping he instantly acts quickly and gets us dressed. He rushes me to the hospital and they of course knew us since he works here in the emergency room. They get my breathing under control and give me asthma treatments to stop the attack.

Sebastian calms down when my breathing is back to normal after the treatment. They gave me oxygen so I have an oxygen mask on to help me breathe better.

"What caused it?" he asks as he looks at the doctor when he walks in.

"It was an allergic reaction to something. A severe allergy can cause an asthma attack. You need to be more careful with treating your asthma. Has anything changed that would cause it?" he answers.

"No! I don't know?" I answer. Then it clicked in Sebastian's eyes.

"We just got a cat." He answers.

"I'm afraid that could have been the cause. Especially fluffy cats that shed a lot. I'm sorry but you are highly allergic to cats." The doctor says. No don't say that. I think to myself. I wanted Sebastian to have a cat so badly.

"Well we will find him a new home." Sebastian says as he takes my hand.

"I'm sorry." I say with guilt.

"It's fine. Your life matter more to me than a little cat. I should have known allergies causes asthma attacks. We didn't know you were highly allergic to them. Now we do and know to stay away from them." He states.

"But it was a gift from me. I can take allergy medicine and do breathing treatments at home to keep my asthma under control." I try to compromise.

"No Ciel. It's better we get rid of the kitten now why he is still a baby and can bond with someone else. Your life means too much to me than one little kitten." He says as he takes my hand in both of his and kisses it.
