Barry shot up with sweat pouring down his face. This was the second night in a row that it had happened. His chest was heaving for breath as he rubbed his eyes, getting the sleep out of them. He had officially been on this Earth for a whole two weeks now, and this was the second time that he had been woken up in the night because of nightmares. The only positive side was that they weren't from his mother's death.
He sighed softly and slid out of bed, stretching when he stood up. Barry grabbed a plain black hoodie from his wardrobe and walked at normal pace to the training room. After his first nightmare, he had gone to the training room to blow off some steam and after thoroughly enjoying it, he decided to make it a regular thing to go and punch the punching bags.
Barry entered the room silently, not even bothering to turn the light on, it wasn't that dark considering it was 3 am. He walked towards the first punching bag he saw and just swung at it. He didn't need to warm up or anything, he just swung at the first chance he could. He had to admit it, he was becoming a better fighter, thanks to both Steve and Natasha.
He had been in there for a good two hours before someone walked in the room. Barry didn't bother looking though, he always knew it was Steve. He was the only other man who would wake up this early and train. It was the routine he had back when he was serving for the military, and after being frozen alive to then being thawed out, no wonder the man wanted a sense of normality to his life. He was an actual time traveller.
Barry never realised how much anger he had pent up as before long, the bag had split with one final speed punch and all the sand fell out from a hole in the bottom of it. He silently stepped away from the bag, breathing heavy as he felt a soft hand touch his shoulder, making him jump. He looked up, seeing a concerned look on Steve's face. Barry flashed the man a fake smile which he gratefully fell for before he walked over to the cupboard in the room and grabbed another bag. He hung it up and went back to his own bag. That was odd.
Usually, Steve would be much more friendly towards him, but he was being distant, and that hurt Barry. He could physically feel the pain in his chest as Steve brushed past him like he didn't even exist.
He was going to figure out what was wrong with Steve, even if it hurt him in the process.
Iris paced around S.T.A.R Labs as Caitlin and Cisco spent countless hours trying to trace Barry's speed-force signature. Whilst her father was doing damage control with C.C.P.D as to why their CSI suddenly vanished, Iris had opted to staying here with Cisco and Caitlin to try and be of some assistance but she hardly understood what they were on about so she just left them to it.
It was dead silent for a few minutes before something pinged on the monitor. Iris ran to the monitor almost inhumanly fast and her eyes filled with tears at what it read on the screen.
'SPEED-FORCE SIGNATURES FOUND- 0%'
Caitlin stood up and pulled Iris into her arms as they both tried to contain the dread in their chests. Cisco just watched from the side-lines, his own emotions bettering him as he allowed himself to let the tears fall over this. Barry was gone, died in the Singularity just like thousands of other innocent lives.
They had no idea how they were going to recover from this.
