The next morning.
After everyone woke up, I made breakfast for everyone, one last time. Bulma gave me and Yamcha temporary phones, that should last until Bulma can bring us some reals ones.
After breakfast, I said goodbye to Grandpa Gohan, Oolong, and Bulma.
The latter two planning on returning to town, for now.
Me, Yamcha, and Puar, flew to the island of the turtle hermit.
"Hey, Kakarot," Yamcha asked me as he got out of his plane, "is this really the Turtle Hermit's home?"
"It seems kind of small," Puar added.
"Yeah, this is it. But be careful, the Turtle Hermit is very powerful, despite appearances," I told them, as I remembered my previous evaluation of him.
Yamcha swallowed hard, "Puar, are you ready?"
"Of course!" Puar said while floating close to Yamcha, "You can do this Yamcha!"
Yamcha decided to lead the charge into the Turtle Hermit's home, Grandpa Gohan's gift in hand.
I followed behind, with my wrapped gift in hand.
But as Yamcha and I walked across the tiny island, we passed Master Roshi's open window.
We could see him through the open window, he was sitting close to the tv, drooling.
The Tv was playing a workout video, but Roshi clearly wasn't watching it to work out.
"Um, Master Roshi," Yamcha tried calling out to him, but got no response.
He then looked at me, not sure what to do, I just shrugged in response, "it's all up to you, but don't worry, I'll have your back."
I said that with a slightly mocking tone, and with a slight smirk.
"You're enjoying this aren't you?"
"Not at all."
"Fine, be that way," Yamcha said as he jumped into the house, through the window.
Yamcha walked slowly up to Master Roshi, who seemed to not notice him.
"Master Roshi," Yamcha called out to him, but he got no response.
Yamcha put his gift on the nearby couch, and then walked directly behind Master Roshi. Yamcha then put his hand on Roshi's shoulder, "Master Roshi."
Master Roshi turned and looked at him, "Who are you?"
"I'm Yamcha, I'm here to train," Yamcha responded with determined eyes.
"Oh, well give me a minute," Master Roshi waved away Yamcha.
Yamcha looked dejected, he walked back to me and Puar with slumped shoulders, grabbing his gift on the way back.
"You did your best, Yamcha," Puar cheered.
"Thanks, Puar."
Master Roshi continued to watch the work out tape for a couple more minutes.
"Ummg," the Turtle Hermit moaned as he got up and stretched after the video ended, "now why did you come here, again?"
Master Roshi asked while walking towards us, I decided to respond, "Yamcha and I want to train under you, Master Roshi."
"Huh, train? Yes," Master Roshi said before jumping through the window, and looked around, "Where's that girl that traveled with you?"
"Bulma went back to the city, for now," I responded.
"Though, Bulma said she was going to visit when she can," Yamcha said with a smile.
"Good… good," Master Roshi said before going back into the house and motioned for us to enter his home.
"My training's awfully tough, you know," the Turtle Hermit said as me and Yamcha sat down across from him.
"I can handle any training, no matter how tough!"
"This training wouldn't be helpful if it wasn't tough," I said, while thinking about the dark energy I felt all those years ago.
I won't be able to grow strong enough to beat Frieza without training as hard as possible. Nor will I be able to save everyone.
"Really now… oh oh oh… and what motivates the two of you to go through such tough training?"
"I want to become as strong as I can," Yamcha confidently answered Master Roshi.
"I need strength to fulfill my dreams," I told him, while blocking all emotion on my face.
Master Roshi seemed to think about he said for a moment. It almost felt like he was evaluating us.
"All right, I'll train you two, but my training doesn't come free!" he said before pointing at us, but I interrupted him.
"Here, have this," I told him while handing him the wrapped package, Grandpa Gohan gave me.
"I have one too," Yamcha said as he handed Master Roshi his package.
"Wh- What could this be?" Master Roshi answered while unwrapping the package. His eyes lit up once he was half-way done unwrapping my package.
He dropped my package, not completely opened, and started to open Yamcha's package. His expression was the same as when he opened my package.
I placed my hand on my forehead, I haven't been able to see what is in the package, but I can make a guess.
"Oh, this more than covers the payment," Master Roshi said before grabbing the still partially wrapped magazines, a blush on his face.
He laughed, while getting up, "We'll start tomorrow! I need to study these further!"
He then quickly rushed up stairs with the gifts in hand.
"Wow, that worked like a charm! Soon we'll be the strongest there is!"
"Yeah!"
"You two should try and save that energy for tomorrow," I told them.
"Come on, Kakarot! Aren't you excited!"
"Not really," I admitted, "this training is just something I'm doing to grow stronger, it's a means to the end."
"Oh, I get. Your scared!" Yamcha said with a smirk, trying to provoke me.
"Of what?"
"That I'll surpass you!"
For some reason, I felt kind of annoyed by that statement, "So, you admit that I'm stronger than you."
For a moment, Yamcha looked like all the wind had been blown out of his sail, "Well, yeah…"
"Don't let Kakarot intimidate you, Yamcha!" Puar said, his words causing the wind to return to Yamcha's sails.
"That's right, you don't scare me! Just you watch Kakarot, I'll surpass you!"
"Its good to dream, Yamcha, but make sure you pick a reasonable one," I responded with a smirk.
Yamcha, Puar, and I continued to talk in the living room, until Master Roshi eventually came out of his room. The magazines were missing.
"Its strange having so many people here," Master Roshi said before pointing at Puar, "and you, are you gonna be training too?"
Puar shook her head, "No, I'm just following Yamcha."
"Well, that's fine," Master Roshi replied, as he walked to the window, "and now there's another one. All these people showing up, and not one hot girl!"
Ignoring the second part of what he said, I got up and walked to see what he was talking about. Yamcha and Puar followed behind me.
"Is that a ship?" Yamcha asked before turning to Puar, "Puar!"
Puar, understanding what Yamcha wanted, turned into a small telescope.
Yamcha, using Puar, reported what he saw, "It's a short bald kid."
I just nodded along, not telling them that my saiyan eyesight made it easy for me to see the ship.
The kid stopped paddling, as a smirk formed on his face. He turned, and then jumped onto the island, but he accidently landed headfirst, leaving him buried in the sand.
That jump was impressive, but I think he is weaker than Yamcha. But first impressions might be deceiving.
"Hey, Kakarot, pull him out," Master Roshi said as he walked to the door.
I exited through the window and walked towards the pair of flaying legs.
I grabbed the guy's legs, and pulled him out of the sand, "Is making a fool of yourself the standard greeting from where you come from?"
"Shut up!" the bald kid screamed at me while dusting himself off.
"I could teach you a thing or two about making flash entrances, if you want," Yamcha offered with a smile.
"You shut up too!" the kid, who was shorted than me, shouted before turning to look at Master Roshi, "You are the invincible master Roshi?!"
"None other."
"I have traveled from the distant village of the east! I am Krillin, and my only wish is to train under you!" He shouted with an annoying smile.
"Well, that's nice, but I rarely take disciples. So, enjoy your trip home," Master Roshi stated blankly.
"Oh, I forgot to give you this token of my admiration," Krillin said while pulling out a porn magazine.
"Maybe I was too hasty," Master Roshi said before taking the magazine and reading it. Entering his own little world.
"And who are you guys. Disciples?"
"I'm Yamcha," Yamcha said while stretching out his hand for a handshake, "these two are Kakarot and Puar."
I just nodded, letting Yamcha do all the work.
Krillin, meanwhile, was just looking at Yamcha's hand before turning and looking at me, "Neither of you look like you have the stomach to handle Master Roshi's training."
Yamcha retracted his hand, his face cold. I could tell that he was anger at Krillin for not only insult him, but me and Puar as well.
"Don't worry about me, Krillin, I can eat a lot," I told him while smirking.
"Oh, now you're trying to be witty, huh?" Krillin said while shrugging his shoulders.
"As if, I saved my witty comments for people that are smart enough to understand them."
"So, you're calling me stupid, pathetic."
"Well, there are other things we can call you, like shortie, or baldie," Yamcha said.
Krillin seemed to get mad at both the shortie and baldie statement, "How dare you! I'll have you know I'm still growing! And I'm not bald, I just shaved my head to make it easy to control my energy! Look, Master Roshi does it!"
"Actually, I'm just bald," Master Roshi said, causing Krillin to shut up.
Yamcha and Puar started to laugh. My smirk grew slightly.
Master Roshi meanwhile, closed the magazine and walked back towards us, "Krillin was it?"
Krillin bowed in response.
"This magazine was good, but not good enough to get out of the requirement test like those two," Master Roshi said, before he started to smile, "to receive my training, you must bring me a smoken Hotty. Do you need to know my taste?"
Krillin just shook his head, before moving to whisper something in Master Roshi's ear. Master Roshi started to sweat, as he blew steam out of his nose.
"You, I like!" Master Roshi said with a smirk.
"You flatter me master!" He bowed again.
"Yamcha, you have a plane, right?" Master Roshi asked Yamcha. Though, he was supposed to be in a lust-induced stupor while Yamcha had his plane out. Maybe, he wasn't as out of it as I thought.
"Yeah," Yamcha replied.
"Good, Yamcha, you fly Krillin to the mainland. Krillin, go with Yamcha a bring me back a hotty!"
"Why do I have to bring this arrogant smurf," Yamcha complained quietly, so that only me and Puar could hear him.
I didn't want to take part in this hotty hunt, so I tried to sneak away, "and Kakarot, we need to talk."
Master Roshi called out to me, causing Krillin to have an arrogant smirk while my friends look worried, even as they were getting in Yamcha's plane.
I just sighed, "Yes, Master Roshi."
Whatever was coming, it couldn't be worse than a lecture from Saber.
"Stay safe," I told Yamcha and the others as they set off.
"Of course, and good luck with Master Roshi!"
Everyone else on the island flew away after that, leaving me and the Turtle Hermit alone.
"Master, should we talk out here, or would you rather head inside?"
"Let's, go inside," Master Roshi said while moving towards the door.
I followed behind him. He sat on the same part of the couch, as earlier. I sat across from him.
"Kakarot, I have several things I need to ask you," Master Roshi said that, while sounding dead serious.
I blinked and rubbed my eyes, for some reason it felt like I was seeing him for the first time, "Go head."
"You can fly on the Flying Nimbus, so your heart must be pure, but even someone with a pure heart could have bad motives. Tell me, what is your dream? What is it that motivates you to get stronger?"
"Can I ask why you're asking me this, but not Krillin."
"Well, I haven't accepted Krillin yet."
I just rolled my eyes, that clearly wasn't true, but I didn't push it, "My dream is more of a childish desire."
"Well? Spit out, you youngling, I'm not getting any younger here!" Master Roshi screamed at me after a couple seconds of silence.
"My dream is to become a hero capable of saving everyone."
Master Roshi looked surprised, "Do you really think that's possible?"
"Of course. And if it isn't, then I'll make it possible."
Master Roshi seemed to be analyzing me, "I see."
"does this mean we're good, Master Roshi?"
"On that topic," Master Roshi said before suddenly getting angry.
I leaned back, as I almost thought flames were bursting from Master Roshi, "You tricked me!"
What?
I stared at him for a view seconds, not sure what he was talking about, then it hit me.
"Are you talking about the fan?"
"What else! You used that magic of yours to find it didn't you."
"Something like that," I vaguely agreed.
"You cheated me out of a Pat-Pat! on that cute girl."
"Of course, I did, though I would have been more subtly about it if I realized I would be training under you soon after," I laughed and smiled, "no hard feelings, right?"
Master Roshi nearly exploded when I said that, but I interrupted before he could, "I know, how about I make it up to you by cooking you a meal?"
I said while getting up, the Turtle Hermit meanwhile muttered something ominously under his breath, "no hard feelings? Let's see you say that once training starts."
I just ignored him and went to the kitchen to start making us some food.
The others returned shortly after me and Master Roshi finished eating.
With them was a blue haired woman, with a ribbon in her hair.
"Yamcha, who's that?"
"This is Launch, we rescued her from some thugs trying to kidnap her."
"I see, Yamcha, Bulma wasn't enough for you, so you decided to get a second girlfriend. Don't worry, I won't tell," I joked.
"What?! No way, Bulma's the only one for me!" Yamcha said panicky, looking around the island as if he expected Bulma to appear out of nowhere.
Shaking my head at his antics, I turned to look at the other guy making a fool of himself.
The Turtle Hermit was doing a stupid dance, while laughing. His mouth was open so wide, that I could see all three of his teeth, "How would you like to learn some martial arts, honey?"
"That sounds fun, but your workouts must be to much for me," Launch tried to decline the offer.
"Oh, no, I'm not suggest you try the advanced course, like these three. Just the recreation version, for your body and Soul."
For some reason, alarm bells were ringing in my head.
Even after Roshi's suggest, Launch didn't seem convinced until Krillin decided to egg her on, "Come on, Launch! Master Roshi here is one of the greatest martial artists in the world! Most people would kill to be in your position!"
"Really!" Launch said excitedly, seemingly convinced by Krillin's sells pitch, "I guess I'll do it."
Master Roshi and Krillin subtly fist bumped each other.
"Hey, Kakarot," Yamcha called out, slightly scared, "do you have a bad feeling about this too?"
I just nodded yes in reply.
"Here, get into this uniform!" Master Roshi said before turning to me, "and Kakarot, while were doing this, you go do the dishes."
Master Roshi seemed to send me an unsaid message, this was his idea of punishing me.
I just shrugged, even though I would never admit it, I like doing the dishes, "good luck, Yamcha."
I made my way inside and got to work on cleaning the dishes. From the sink, I could see everything that was going on through the window.
It took a couple minutes, but Yamcha and the others all changed into this small, outfits. Even Puar was in one.
Yamcha looked incredibly embarrassed.
Seeing that, I pulled my new phone out of my pocket and yelled "Hey, Yamcha!"
Yamcha turned and looked at me, his eyes widening as I took a picture of him in the outfit.
'I'm sending that to Bulma' I mouthed to him, not actually planning on doing that.
Yamcha looked like he was getting ready to run inside and take the phone from me, but Master Roshi hit him on the head before he could.
I smirk, as I put the phone in my pocket and got back to cleaning the dishes.
The only time I looked back at them was when Launch was leaving the house, after she finished changing. Yamcha still looked embarrassed, but Krillin and Master Roshi seemed excited.
After that quick glance, I went back to doing the dishes, at least until I heard gun shots and someone screaming.
"Where the heck am I? This doesn't look like any Jail I've seen… You brought me here!"
I made it to the window, just in time to see a yellow haired Launch gun down the four people in front of her. But, before I could do anything, Launch sneezed and her hair turned blue again.
Launch stopped firing her gun, and laughed awkwardly, "Oopsie! My other personality comes out when I sneeze, ha ha! I hope I didn't do anything to violate."
"Not at all," Master Roshi crocked from the ground. Yamcha, Puar, and Krillin were on the ground right next to him.
I smirked. It seems karma is real after all.
Master Roshi and the others spent rest of the day resting after the Launch sneezing incident.
It wasn't until the next morning that we set out to train. Master Roshi turned his home into a capsule and pulled out a boat capsule.
He said we had to go to a bigger island for training.
Master Roshi piloted his boat to the island, while I followed behind on the Flying Nimbus.
The sun was starting to go down by the time we got to the island. The island itself was far larger than the island we left. At the center of the island was a giant mountain, that seemed to have steam blowing out its top. According to Master Roshi, around 300 hundred people live on this island.
"How 'bout a little training before dinner?" I heard Master Roshi say that from atop Nimbus.
"Yeah, let's do this!"
"We're honored, Master Roshi."
"Yes, sir," I replied, while jumping off the Nimbus.
Looking at the others, Yamcha was excited but nervous. Krillin was confident as ever, standing there with his arms cross, and a smirk on his face. Master Roshi seemed neutral about the whole thing.
Puar was sending dirty looks at Krillin.
Launch on the other hand looked nervous, "What about me?"
"Do whatever you wish, my dear."
"I guess I'll started dinner," Launch said before going inside.
"I'll help too," Puar called after Launch.
I hoped that this training would finish quickly, that way I could go help Launch cook dinner.
"Okay, its training time. But first things first, what kind of martial arts knowledge do you three have?"
Even though he asked about the three of us, I could tell that the question was meant for the other two.
Krillin answered first, "I trained at a temple for 8 years!"
"I have my Wolf Fang Fist, that I developed on my own," Yamcha said confidence, "and its as good as any martial arts taught at those baby temples!"
Yamcha took a shot at Krillin, probably still annoyed by Krillin's insult yesterday.
"And I trained with Grandpa," I told him.
Master Roshi nodded, "Well, you all claim to have a grasp of the basics. So, let's see what you've got."
Master Roshi then turned around and pointed at a tree, "You three see that tree? It's exactly 100 meters from this rock here. We're going to see how fast you can run that. Not that being a fast runner makes you good at martial arts."
Krillin started laughing, "Heh, let me go first. I'll show what true speed looks like."
Yamcha glared at him, "are you sure about that, those tiny stumps don't look they can move that fast."
"Of course, I'm sure. Size isn't everything!"
I rolled my eyes, "keeping telling yourself that."
"At least I'm not so weirdo that goes around wearing a stupid fake tail," Krillin said while glaring at me.
I felt kind of angry at this kid, for calling my tail stupid and fake, "Krillin, my tail is real."
"Yeah, right," Krillin said smugly, "do you think I was born yesterday?"
Yamcha was about to say something, but I spoke before him, "Why don't you pull my tail and see for yourself?"
That worked for Bulma. I took my tail and wagged it in his face to annoy him even more.
"Stop putting this in my face," Krillin tried to pull my tail, and all it did was make me feel slightly sleepy, "What! It's real!"
Krillin's eyes grow twice as big, and saliva threw from his mouth. As he realized my tail was real.
Before we could continue, Master Roshi hit all of us over the head with his walking stick, even Yamcha, "We don't got all day!"
"Sorry," we apologized.
Krillin walked up to the start line, still staring at my tail.
That expression vanished though as he got ready to run. He got into a running position and waited for Master Roshi to stay go.
"Ready, Set, Go!" Master Roshi shouted from besides the tree.
Krillin ran as fast as his feet could take him, leaving him out of breath after he crossed the finish line.
After seeing his speed, I understand why he's so cocky. He's probably never meet anyone as fast as him.
"Incredible! 100 meters in 10.9 seconds!" Master Roshi said, clearly impressed.
"My personal best is a 10.1, but that's not too bad," Krillin said as he gasped for air, while still trying to maintain that smug look, "I doubt either of them could come close to my speed!"
"Watch me!" Yamcha shouted at Krillin, as he moved to the starting line.
Yamcha started running at top speed, the instant Roshi said go.
"10.5 seconds," Master Roshi muttered, impressed yet again.
"How about that, Krillin, still think you're faster than me?" Yamcha said in between breaths.
"As I said earlier, my best is a 10.1 one, you just caught me on a bad day," Krillin stated.
I walked up to the start line and got into position. I decided to not use reinforcement for this test, since I won't be using it during the rest of the training.
At the Turtle Hermit's shout, I ran.
"8 seconds," Master Roshi said while sweating slightly.
Yamcha had a big smile on his face, "good job!"
"Thanks," I responded with ease. Unlike the other two, I was winded from my run.
"Wh-what kind of training did you go through?" Krillin asked with a stutter.
"I just did a lot of physical exercise," I told him.
Though, I didn't mention that I had reached a plateau of strength, and that I haven't been able to get physically stronger in almost a year.
I just hope that Master Roshi's training will help me break through this wall.
"All three of you are incredible," Master Roshi said as he tossed Krillin the stopwatch, "but your still within human limits! You must break bast that to reach your true potential."
Master Roshi began to take of his turtle shell, "Krillin, time me!"
"You're going to run too?"
"I can't wait to see this!"
I stood there quietly, with my arms crossed and my tail hanging freely.
Krillin gave Master Roshi the go single, and he ran fast. Faster than me or Grandpa Gohan.
"5.6," Krillin said in disbelief.
"Incredible," Yamcha muttered from beside me.
Incredible indeed, especially since I think he was holding back.
"5.6 huh, not bad for an old man," Master Roshi mumbled to himself, as he put his shell back on, "with training and discipline, you guys should be able to break 5 seconds."
We all nodded along.
Master Roshi then looked at the setting sun, "the sun has begun to set, and dinner await. Your training will truly begin tomorrow, but we still have one more test for the night."
"Whatever it is, we can handle it."
"Unless it's talking to girls."
"Hey, I've gotten over that!"
"Examine this rock," Master Roshi interrupted, while picking up a stone and drawing 'turtle' on it with a black marker, "for the test I'm going to do this!"
Master Roshi said that, while suddenly turning and throwing the rock of a nearby cliff, "this test is to find the rock that I just threw."
"You mean the one you threw halfway across the island?" Krillin asked.
"Yep, and only the one who brings the stone back gets dinner. And if none of you find it within 30 minutes, then none of you eat."
"Ahhh," screamed Krillin as he ran away full force.
"Sorry about this Kakarot, but I need dinner more than you!" Yamcha shouted as he ran in the direction of the stone too.
I decided to ignore what the other two were doing and run straight to the cliff where I, without hesitation, jumped off it.
If I had still been Shirou Emiya, then this action would have been suicide. But, not only have a gained a ton of experience doing things like this in the mountains, but my Saiyan body is far stronger than my old human one.
It was child's play for me to grab on to a tree branch, and spin off it, slowing down my descent.
I landed gracefully on my feet and sniffed the air.
I ran in the direction that Master Roshi's smell was strongest.
It took me around fifteen minutes to track down the stone.
My stomach growled as I picked it up, "dinner's going to be mine."
I started to make my way back to Kame house, and I encountered Yamcha along the way.
"I shouldn't have bother," Yamcha said while sighing, "especially not when the stone was in a forest. By the way, do you know where Krillin is?"
I sniffed the air, "I think he's still in the forest, looking for the stone."
"I wonder how long he'll stay there looking for the stone?"
"Probably until the 30 minutes are up," I responded as Kame house came into sight.
"Hopefully, he gets lost in there. Maybe then he'll learn a thing or two about arrogance."
"You don't like Krillin?" I asked.
"I hate how he insulted my friends."
"If you're angry on my behalf, then don't be. He's low on my annoying scale."
"You don't consider him annoying?" Yamcha said, while shaking his head in disbelief, "I'd hate to meet someone you think is annoying."
I jumped hummed in response. We continued the rest of the walk-in silence.
"Master Roshi, I have the stone," I told him while showing it to him.
"Yep, this is the rock I threw. You win, Kakarot."
Good, and with the time left, I probably still have time to help Launch finish up dinner.
Going to help Launch make dinner was the right decision after all, as I discovered she had messed up the puffer fish and would have gotten all of us sick.
That's why, I decided to take it upon myself to teach her how to cook.
I quickly remade dinner and ate. Everyone else, who was allowed to eat dinner, also ate at the same time.
After that, we went to bed. Training started the next morning, at the crack of dawn.
"Aaahh," yawned Yamcha as we stood next to each other, Master Roshi standing in front of us.
"You shouldn't have stay up all night texting Bulma," I said while shaking my head.
"But I had to! Do you know how'll mad she'll be if I don't respond?"
"Quit your yapping," Master Roshi yelled. Though, I think the only reason he yelled was because he was mad that he wasn't the one Bulma was texting.
"Today marks your first true day of training in the turtle school of martial arts! But know this! One doesn't study martial arts to win a fight or to catch girls! You do it so that you can live your life as freely as you wish. But it is your duty to defeat any person, that seek to terrorize those weaker than them! Got it!"
I just nodded, as I saw nothing in that statement as disagreeable.
The other two nodded but seemed less confident than me.
"Good! Now, let's start training. First will o some light jogging," Master Roshi said while jogging away.
Me and the others jogged behind Master Roshi, who seemed to be jogging towards a small cluster of buildings.
"Is this it? I could do this all day."
"Why did you have to say that?" I asked from behind Yamcha.
Yamcha just jinxed us. I know it.
We kept running, until we encountered a building with the word milk written on it, "Halt!"
Master Roshi went and talked to the owner of the building, who was setting down three crates of glass-bottled milk.
Master Roshi called out to us, after he finished talking to the owner, "All right, boys. This is your first real exercise; we're going to deliver milk. Each one of you get one crate each."
"Serious?!" I heard Krillin say, dumbstruck.
Yamcha looked equally shocked.
"Seriously, it'll be good exercising."
I decided to go along with it and picked up the topmost milk crate.
Yamcha and Krillin looked at each other, for a second, before giving in. They each grabbed a milk crate.
"Good! Now, follow me! We'll skip the first 2 kilometers," Master Roshi said, before Skipping away while singing.
I started to skip after him, with Yamcha and Krillin following behind.
Yamcha and Krillin kept up for the first kilometer but started to lag behind after that.
Both of them were tired by the time we reach the first house. To be fair, even I was starting to sweat. My arms hurting slightly from the weight of the milk carton.
Master Roshi didn't even look tired, "Now then, or the next kilometer we'll Zig-Zag through these trees!"
He said while pointing at a line of trees that went on for miles.
This exercise was worse than the first. I had to start watching my breathing.
Yamcha and Krillin were fairing worse than me though. They both looked like they were about to collapse.
Which was good for me in a way, as I finished the kilometer before them, and their slowness gave me enough time to catch my breath.
"Krillin! Yamcha! Hurry up! The milk will sour if you take to long!"
"Sorry," Yamcha gasped for air, "Sir."
Krillin was just taking this moment to catch this breath.
"Its alright, next we're climbing these stairs! But you don't have to run this part."
I blinked and looked up the stairs.
The stairs that went all the way up to the top of the giant mountain. The one that was at the center of the island.
I took a deep breath. Part of me wished that I didn't outlaw the use of magecraft during training.
Well, there is no point in wasting time, just standing here.
I started to climb the mountain, while doing my best to control my breath.
Master Roshi ran off into the distance and was already halfway up the mountain before I was even 20% of the way up.
Yamcha and Krillin were behind me, still struggling.
It took me almost 20 minutes to climb the mountain, and I somehow managed to keep my breath.
"Do you ever get tired?" Master Roshi asked my while smoking a pipe at the top of the stairs.
"Not for training this easy."
"I see, well I guess I'll have to make training hard from now on."
"Good," I said with a smile, "any worth doing should be hard."
Not that this training was easy.
Yamcha and Krillin caught up shortly after, wheezing up a storm.
"Good job, you two made it."
Krillin didn't say anything, or it would be more accurate to say he couldn't say anything. He just delivered the milk with a smile, while sweating.
The person who lived at the top this mountain came out and thanked us, "Thank you so very much!"
"You're welcome," Yamcha said, having mostly regained his breath by then.
The mountain top dweller then looked at Master Roshi, "Training, Master Roshi? It's been a long time since you took on students."
"Yes, it has been a while, hasn't it?"
"Well, how is there training going?"
"These three only started today, but I already feel that they both have quite a lot of potential. If they continue training, they should be able to enter the tournament 8 months from now."
Yamcha and Krillin started to dance in joy when The Turtle Hermit said we have potential.
"HO! The world martial arts tournament!" mountain-top man exclaimed.
At that, both Krillin and Yamcha stopped in their tracks.
"The World Martial Arts Tournament!" they both shouted as one.
"What's that?" I asked. It sounds like some kind of world-wide tournament, but I wanted to make sure.
"It's an awesome tournament, where all the best martial artists gather to see who's the 'Strongest Under the Heavens'!" Krillin yelled.
Huh, for some reason, that sounds like fun.
"Master Roshi, do you really think we're good enough to enter?" Yamcha asked while balling his hand into a fist.
"Only if you seriously train. And remember your goal is not the title, life isn't that easy. I just think that having a goal will make you strive harder in your training."
Yamcha and Krillin looked absolutely giddy after Master Roshi said that. I just stood there silently.
I already have a goal, but I guess having a second one is fine too. Though, if I'm going to enter this tournament, then I'm going to go for the title.
I don't do things in half measures.
"Let's go boys, the milk is getting warm," I looked up as Master Roshi called us to move.
After that, Master Roshi had us delivering milk while walking in areas with huge drops on either side of us, sand, and rivers.
The last leg of the journey had us being chased by a dinosaur.
"Don't lose your footing, or you'll be eaten!"
My stomach growled as he said that. There were some dinosaur recipes I wanted to work on, "Hey, Master Roshi! Can I kill the dinosaur?!"
"What?!"
"There are some recipes I wanted to try out, and I need dinosaur meat, beside I'm hungry."
"How can you think about food at a time like this!" Krillin scream, running faster as he was the closes to being eaten.
You would understand if you had a black hole for a stomach too!
I wonder if Saber felt the same way when I asked her how she ate so much.
In the end Master Roshi didn't let me kill the dinosaur.
We finished the milk run soon after that incident.
Yamcha and Krillin were completely on the ground, gasping for air. I was in an only slightly better position; I was still on the ground but at least I could sit up.
"Good work, you guys. Don't worry, this will get easier of the coming months. Anyway, that's it for your early morning routine. Now we its time for your morning workouts."
I think I saw the light in Yamcha's eyes die when Master Roshi said that, while Krillin seemed to be to out of it to hear him.
After we had time to catch our breath, Master Roshi put us to work plowing a field with our bare hands. Then we got breakfast, followed by study time.
"Listen! No martial artist becomes a master by only growing physically stronger! One must also train their mind!" Master Roshi said while Me, Yamcha, and Krillin sat across from him.
We were just outside of Kame house, and Master Roshi was sitting on a tiny chair. He had a chalk board pinned to a tree next to him.
"Hey, Master Roshi," Yamcha said while raising his hand, "I'm way older than these two and already know what you're gonna teach. So, can I take a break?"
"Yamcha, you need this education the most," I told him before Master Roshi could say anything.
"What's that supposed to mean, Kakarot?"
"You've have been living alone in the middle of the desert, while Krillin's been living in a monastery or something. Can you even count to a hundred?"
"A hundred?" Krillin asked.
"Your wrong, Kakarot," Yamcha ignored Krillin while denying my words. "I studied using some books I stole from some Red Ribbon Army guys."
"Red Ribbon Army?" I asked.
"They're this group of jerks, real bad guys. Feel free to beat them up."
"You idiots! Stop derailing my lectures!" Master Roshi roared. "All you idiots need more education! So shut up and listen!"
"Fine," Yamcha meekly backed down.
Some vindictive pleasure coursed through me. if I have to sit through this lecture, despite having gone through high school and classes at the clocktower, then you have too as well.
After study time, we had lunch and naptime. Followed by doing construction work.
Then we had to swim ten laps in a lake. While naked and being chased by a shark.
At least Bulma wasn't there, as I pretty sure Yamcha would let the shark eat him before letting Bulma see him naked.
Following that, our last exercise of the day was to be tied to a tree and attacked by bees.
We tried to dodge them as best we could, but we all ended up getting stung, a ton.
"Good! That should do it for today's training," Master Roshi said, after untying us from the tree.
"Master Roshi, is training going to be this harsh every day?" Krillin asked.
"Nope," Yamcha, and Krillin sighed, "It's going to be harder."
"Harder!" Yamcha shouted.
"Ho- How could you make it harder!"
"Because you're going to have to do these exercises every day, for the next 8 months, while wearing a 20-kilo shell!" Master Roshi said that while pulling out a 20-kilo shell.
Krillin fell flat on his face while Yamcha just laughed.
"Can I try it on?" I asked Master Roshi.
"Sure," he responded, handing it to me.
It was too heavy for me to pick up, easily, with one hand. Using both of my hands, I put the turtle shell on.
I tried to walk with it on, but even that was incredibly difficult.
My body was shaking with the effort it took to walk.
But I smiled because I knew that this shell would help me get stronger. Thus, giving me more power to protect people.
We followed that training routine for three days, the heavy shells making It nearly impossible.
On the fourth day, me and Yamcha were sitting by the sea sided, during our break period.
"Hey, Kakarot."
"Yeah?"
"Can you roll me over? I can't move," Yamcha said while looking away, embarrassed.
I looked over at Yamcha, who was lying on his stomach, he was being weighed down by the giant turtle shell on his back. I kicked him, causing him to roll onto his back.
"Thanks," he said.
I was so tired that I didn't even try and mess with him. The last couple days have been excruciating.
Trying to swim with this turtle shell is almost impossible, and climbing the mountain is horrible.
To the point that I felt bad for Krillin as he slid down the mountain, on the second day of training.
"Do you think we're getting stronger?" Yamcha asked me.
"Yes," I responded, "there's no way we don't grow far stronger from this training."
"I hope that you're right," Yamcha said before his eyes widened, "is that?!"
I followed his eyes and saw what he was looking at.
It was a capsule plane, "Do you think that's Bulma?"
"Yeah, she said she was coming by today!" Yamcha tried to flail his arms to get the plane's attention.
The plane started to descend and landed next to us. I guess Yamcha's flailing worked.
"Yamcha!" a familiar feminine voice screamed; it was Bulma.
"Bulma!" Yamcha screamed, as Bulma jumped on him, "ow."
Yamcha flinched due to how sore his body was.
"Oh, sorry," Bulma said, as she got off Yamcha, "hi, Kakarot."
"Hi," I said while smirking, "are you here to laugh at us."
"While seeing you like this is funny," Bulma said while laughing, "but I have some good news!"
"You better run, Yamcha, before she ties you down for 18 years."
Both looked confused for a minute, before they realized what I meant.
"We haven't done that! No- not that I would be against that," Yamcha stuttered.
"Sure," I winked, "whatever you say."
"Kakarot!" Bulma hit me on the head.
Messing with Bulma is worth getting hit on the head.
"Are you done?"
"For now," Bulma grumbled, "anyway, here's your phone."
"What are you guys talking about?" Yamcha asked.
"I asked Bulma to make me a phone," I explained.
Bulma handed me the phone, "What do you think?"
"Incredible, I guess you really are a good inventor," I admitted.
"Of course, the only person that can rival me is my dad," she was getting snobbish from my complement.
"Did you make me one?" Yamcha asked.
"I can make you one if you want, Yamcha," Bulma said while looking around, "where's Puar?"
"Puar's keeping Launch busy," Yamcha told her.
Bulma just nodded, as if she knew about Launch's condition. Yamcha must have texted her about it.
"Anyway, Yamcha, Kakarot, do you guys have the afternoon off?"
"It depends," Yamcha responded, "Master Roshi said we can skip training if we want, but we're responsible for the consequences."
"That old man, let me deal with him," Bulma declared.
"Do you need help with something?" I asked, the soreness in my body disappearing at the opportunity to help someone.
"No, my sister is having a party on this island just outside of east city."
I stopped myself from staring at her. Just what is her angle? The Bulma I know is selfish. There must be something she's hoping to gain from this.
No, Bulma's motive doesn't really matter. All that matters is that Bulma will smile if I agree to go.
"I'm in," I said, while I started to stand up, "but you have to convince Master Roshi to let me take off this turtle shell."
"Done," Bulma said with a smile, "Yamcha!"
"I guess I'll go to. It would look bad if your boyfriend doesn't go with you wouldn't it?"
"Good," Bulma said, for a moment I could have sworn her smile turned evil, "I'll go talk to Master Roshi."
Bulma started to walk to Kame house, that was visible in the distance.
"Kakarot, can you help me up?" Yamcha asked.
"Sure," I responded while pulling him up.
After Yamcha got back on his feet, and he looked at me.
"We probably need to get some new clothing," Yamcha said.
I just nodded.
We stood around for a few minutes, until Bulma came running back, "Master Roshi said you guys can take of your shells."
"How'd you convince him?" Yamcha asked.
"A girl has her ways," Bulma said.
And I can unfortunately guess them.
Me and Yamcha took off the shells and set them against a nearby tree.
"When's the party?" Yamcha asked.
"We need to be there in six hours."
I just stood there silently, thinking about this party. I'm not sure how to deal with parties.
In my first life, I spent most of my time training alone, except for when that tiger came in like a hurricane.
And any parties I went to later in life was for work.
"Bulma, I need to go get new clothing," I told her.
"We can go shopping before the party!" Bulma exclaimed while grabbing Yamcha's arm.
"Sounds good to me," Yamcha said.
"I can't get clothing at normal stories," I told them.
"Why not?"
"My tail will get in the way," I said that while waving my tail, "so, I'm going to grab so of my old clothing. Do you know anywhere I can meet back up with you?"
"Are you sure about that, Kak…" Yamcha was interrupted before he could continue.
"Kakarot made his decision. Let's go shopping, Yamcha!" Bulma said.
Bulma then turned to me, and pulled up a map on her phone, she then pointed to a coastline east of us. She zoomed in, "meet us at this dock, in five hours."
Bulma said, as she texted me the location, which I then pulled up on my phone.
"Ok, I'll meet you there," I said as I called Nimbus, and jumped on it, "have fun on your date!"
I said that as I flew away.
I flew east, until I saw a small uninhabited island. I flew down to the island. I then jumped down to the island. I pulled my new phone out of my pocket and mark this location down on my GPS.
I put my phone down on a nearby rock.
"Trace On."
I projected a new set of clothing.
I traced a small black shirt, and a long black leather jacket. On top of that, I traced a pair of black pants and used my magecraft to alter it to have a tailhole.
The outfit was just a smaller version of the outfit I wore at the start of my career in my last life. Minus the red scarf. I decided to go with this outfit since it would standout less than the red shroud Curry-senpai gave me. I think I'll see if I can get Bulma to find me clothing similar to this, or maybe I could ask her about getting something like that red leather jacket.
I swapped my clothing.
After I zipped my black jacket, I folded my workout outfit and placed it on a nearby rock.
The jacket completely hid my tail, especially with it zipped up.
Appearance wise, the color matches my black hair and eyes.
I checked the time, I still had four and a half hours before I have to meet Bulma.
Looking at the world map, the meet up spot is in East City.
It would be a good use of my time to explore what one of the capital cities look like.
I jumped back on the Nimbus-chan and fly towards east city.
It took me an hour to reach East City. Meaning I had three and a half hours to explore the city.
I jumped off the flying Nimbus and started walking through the town.
I looked at everything around me, as I walked through the streets.
The technology that built this city was beyond my old earth's. And the technology seemed to surpass that of my homeworld in this life, at least in regard to day-to-day technology.
The architecture is also more advanced, with some building designs being beyond what could have been built in my world. Though, that seems to apply to half the city.
The architecture of the other half of the city were similar to the buildings of my old earth.
What was stranger about this town was the dress of the people. Within my view, I saw some people dressed as ninja, talking to knights. There're was a person dress as a stereotypical witch, though I smelled a little magical energy from them.
It's like its Halloween.
Something must have happened to bring all these different groups together. I wonder what it was.
Another interesting thing was the mix of English signs, with Japanese signs, which is just further proof of a combination of different cultures.
As I was walking down the street, I stopped and picked up some trash that was left on the almost empty street I was walking down.
I then went and threw away the trash, not that it helped much. The walkways were full of litter, despite the numerous trash cans on the street.
As I turned away, I my nose twitched. I vaguely smelt blood.
I quickly ran in the direction of the smell. With my speed, it didn't take me long to reach the source of the smell.
There was somebody in uniform bleeding on the ground. The uniform didn't look to be police, but it was similar to the royal guard's uniform that I saw on tv at Roshi's. They also had a holstered gun strapped to their side.
I quickly moved to look at the man's wounds, quickly tracing some bandages.
"Hey, kid." The man weakly called out as I got close to him, "don't panic, I'm with The World Government."
"Obviously," I rolled my eyes. The gunshot wound wasn't that bad, the issue was the man's bleeding. But it's nothing I can stop the bleeding long enough for him to get to a hospital. Or I can trace a surgeon's knife and operate here. That would force me to use magic energy to trace some mystic codes to disinfect the area. And there's always the final option of tracing a healing mystic code.
"Don't get snarky with me," the uniformed man said while looking down at his pocket.
"And you stop moving," I said as I knocked him out with a single motion.
Treating other people is easier when they're unconscious.
After a couple minutes, the man's condition stabilized.
Now its time to figure out how he was injured.
The best place to start is with somebody's phone.
Reaching inside the man's pocket, there was a password protected phone.
The password was beyond my reach with the only guy that knows it being incapacitated.
Using spirtron hacking, I opened the phone and looked over its contents.
The dude's phone had a picture of a map with a giant red x over an island.
It seems that this guy was investigating that Red Ribbon Army Yamcha mentioned. They probably shot him after he got some information he shouldn't have. Possibly the location of their base.
Looks like Yamcha was right when he said the Red Ribbon Army needs to be dealt with.
I dialed 911 with his phone and left his side. Medical professionals should be able to deal with the rest of his treatment.
"Flying Nimbus!" I screamed out and my cloud appeared from the sky. I then jumped on my cloud. And after taking one last look at the officer, I flew off.
It didn't take me long to reach the island.
The island was small, and it only had a single one-story metal building on it. The building had a red ribbon adorned above its only entrance. The building had no windows. There also didn't seem to be any cameras on the island.
My possible entry points were limited to the single entrance. Plus, I don't have time to stake out the place, since I have to go meet Bulma and Yamcha at the dock soon.
That leaves only one option.
I jumped off Nimbus and onto the island.
"Trace on," I muttered my incantation, and began to project my twin swords.
I carefully walked up to the metal door. There didn't seem to be any hidden traps on the island.
Once I reached the door, I quietly pushed it open, and entered the building.
As I did so, I felt cold air rush my face causing chills to run up my body. Even so, I pressed on into the building.
The building was filled with high-tech gadgetry, and I couldn't even figure out what half of it even was.
"What are you doing here?"
A tall man came out of nowhere, calmly walking through a set of doors.
The giant had red hair and icy blue eyes. He could probably pick me up and snap my neck with ease.
"You're the leader of this Red Ribbon Army base, correct?"
The man smirked, while popping his knuckles. "That's right. I'm Colonel Gold, one of the Red Ribbon Army's elite soldiers."
"I see… would you be willing to surrender?"
Gold looked at me in complete befuddlement. "How about this, don't resist and I'll give you a painless death."
"Of course, it wouldn't be that easy," I muttered as I shifted into a combat stance.
The red headed man snickered. "Let's get this over with, I've got places to be."
The man didn't take me seriously, he walked towards me without taking a combat stance.
I reinforced my legs and jumped towards the man.
Instead of going for the man's head, I aim for his chest.
Gold's eyes widened as I closed the distance between us in an instant.
My dull blades hit him squarely in the chest, with enough force to send a grown man flying.
Despite that, Gold was only sent back a couple feet.
Gold reached for his chest and clenched it with his right hand. He was slumping slightly as he tried to catch his breath.
I glared at him without saying a word.
Even if I was holding back, that strike should've knocked him out.
"My armor… how'd you get past my armor?" He rasped.
So, it was his armor that kept him standing.
The lime green suit he is wearing must be some sort of highly advanced armor, capable of absorbing a good deal of force. But it does have some sort of limit.
A limit I should be able to overcome, all I need to do is hit him with more force.
Bending one of my knees, I was about to go into another attack when I heard a sound behind me.
Jumping to the side, I barely managed to dodge a hail of bullets.
Then I twisted my body, allowing me to block the next series of bullets. Kanshou and Bakuya easily deflected the bullets without chipping.
My eyes narrowed as I looked at my second opponent. It was some sort of red robot, equipped with two machine guns. The robot had what appeared to be a single red sensor.
I landed on the ground and immediately took a defensive stance. I somehow managed to block every single one of the robot's bullets.
"Good, keep him busy," Gold said before turning to run.
I growled as I saw him reach the doorway.
The robot's constant hail of bullets made it impossible for me to chase after Gold.
I continued to block the bullets, even as the minutes passed on.
I bit my lip; this isn't going to work. The more time I waste with this robot, the more time gold has to escape.
There was no cover for me to hide behind and turning my back on the robot would be suicidal.
Humans can't survive being riddled with bullet holes. In fact, being able to block this many bullets is nothing short of a miracle.
Actually, blocking is really easy…
My mind froze as I remembered something basic.
I dropped Kanshou from my left hand.
Then I used my left hand to catch all the bullets, I didn't even feel them.
The Robot stopped firing bullets after my display. The robot was probably trying to understand how I caught the bullets.
I stared silently into the robot's eye, while I felt it stare back at me. A deep silence covered the room, that was only broken by the sound of my dropping the bullets.
"Killing me won't be so easy," I smirk. "You'll a far bigger gun to hurt me, I can give you some suggestions if you want."
The chest of the machine suddenly opened, revealing a missile.
I rose my hand and started to project a magical shield, without a moment of hesitation.
The robot fired its missile. It collided with my shield.
The shield I projected was a noble phantasm that carries the concept of 'protection from explosives.'
The noble phantasm easily blocked the missile, most likely due to the missile being low yield.
My right hand tightened around its blade and jumped towards the robot. I cut down the robot with ease.
"I need to hurry," I muttered to myself.
If I don't hurry, then that guy will get away—
Suddenly, I sensed that something was wrong.
Then there was a loud rumble as the island seemed to shake.
Unsure of what was happening, I ran and picked up my projected shield from the ground. Just in time to, as I saw a set of doors be blown from the hinges, followed sone after by the wall it was attached to.
It seems that Gold has managed to activate some kind of self-destruct switch.
I hid behind my shield, while making myself as small as possible.
That was all that I had time to do before the explosion reached me.
3rd person point of view
The old Red Ribbon Army research base laid in ruins. Its commander having activated its self-destruct function while fleeing the island.
The wreckage shifted as Kakarot dug himself out.
The Saiyan's face was contorted into a frown as he climbed out of the wreckage.
"Tsk, he got away," Kakarot muttered to himself, after looking around for any trace of Gold. "I was too sloppy."
The Hero of Justice reprimanded himself for failing to stop a villain, especially one that was seemingly willing to kill a child.
Clenching his fist, he took a moment to look over himself.
His body ached from the explosion, but he didn't suffer any wounds. Meanwhile, his clothing was dirty, and his pants and jackets had several rips in them.
He reached into his pocket and pulled out his phone. He let out a sigh of relieve when he saw that the phone was unbroken.
Inwardly, he was surprised that the phone managed to come out of the explosion unharmed. The boy promised to thank Bulma.
"I need to go meet up with the others," Kakarot sighed, before an idea popped into his head. "I wonder if Bulma could help me track down Gold?"
Kakarot called for his Flying Nimbus, and the processed to jump onto it. His destination was the docks.
Even though Bulma had proved herself to be a good inventor, Kakarot knew that didn't mean she was able to do anything. He figured that Bulma had specialized training in the creation of electronics, but that was it.
The chances of her being able to somehow track down a random guy was all most non-existent. Which is exactly why he was going to ask her to try.
The Hero, who lived a life similar to James Bond, smirked.
Across his various adventures, he'd truly saved countless lives, but he'd also gain the affection of just as many women. Just like James Bond, anytime he went on a mission to save lives, no matter where it was, he'd always ended up with someone falling in love with him.
In other words, he has lots of experience with women. And one thing he'd learn was that the best way to get a girl like Bulma to do something, is to tell them they can't do it. When told that something is impossible, they won't stop until it becomes possible.
The former human's smirk disappeared as he approached the docks. It only took him a second to spot his companions.
Bulma was pulling Yamcha close to her, causing him to blush.
"Are you two having fun?" Kakarot smirked mockingly as he called out to Yamcha and Bulma from behind them.
Yamcha jumped, quickly turning to look at Kakarot. "Kakarot! What are you—what happened to you?"
Bulma scowled at the boy on a cloud, enraged at him for interrupting her. "He's probably spent the day getting into fights."
"What do you take me for, Bulma? Some sort of maniac?"
"No, you're an idiot."
The idiot shrugged at Bulma's insult, having long since gotten used to hearing it.
"But you didn't answer me, how'd your clothes get all messed up?" Yamcha asked again.
"I got in a fight with this guy, then he blew up the building," Kakarot responded while jumping off his flying Nimbus, which then disappeared back into the sky.
Instead of looking concerned for her friend, Bulma looked vindicated.
Yamcha meanwhile had a proud smile on his face. "You were beating the guy that bad, huh? Nice work."
Kakarot frowned at Yamcha's thumbs up, as a feeling of failure descended upon him. "No, it wasn't. The other guy got away."
The Desert Bandit stopped giving his friend a thumbs up, and instead patted him on the back. "Don't worry about it, you win some and you lose some."
The Sayian looked at Yamcha as he proceeded his words. As someone who wanted to be a hero, he couldn't accept that he would lose some. Even after his many failures to save anyone. At the same time though, he didn't want to reject the sentiment behind Yamcha's words.
Kakarot sighed and placed his failure at the back of his mind for the time being. "Being so simple minded must make life easy for you, Yamcha. It's almost impressive."
"Yeah, it is!" Yamcha exclaimed as he pointed his thumb towards himself. "No one is as simple minded as me—hey!"
Despite Yamcha looking hurt at his friend's words, Kakarot couldn't help but smile.
"Yamcha, just ignore him," Bulma grabbed her boyfriend's arm as she said that. "You're just going to embarrass us if you try to match him."
The wielder of the Wolf-fang fist held his head down low, as even his girlfriend didn't back him up.
"That was meant to be a compliment," Kakarot made a light attempt to comfort his friend, before turning towards Bulma. "Is your friend with a boat on his way here?"
"Omori said he would be here in a few minutes," Bulma answered simply.
Kakarot hummed in response and then decided to lean on a nearby wall until Omori arrives.
He thought that they might want the bench they were on to themselves.
It took less than half an hour for the boat to come into view, at least for Kakarot.
"Bulma, is that Omori guy a short old man with a scar across his right eye and a large mustache?"
"That sounds like him," Bulma said as she turned towards the ocean. Yamcha did to, both of them looked across the horizon for Omori.
"He's three kilometers out," the spellcaster explained when he saw their efforts. "You guys won't be able to see him for a little bit."
Neither Bulma nor Yamcha were surprised by his explanation. They had both accepted Kakarot as not normal a while ago and are no longer surprised by his strangeness. If anything, they thought Kakarot's super vision was one of the more normal things about him.
The boat slowly came into view for the two humans. The group moved from where they were to the nearby pier. By the time they got to the pier, Omori was preparing to dock.
"It's been a while, Omori," Bulma called out to him.
"No, it hasn't," Omori grumped.
Bulma got onto Omori's boat and was soon followed by Yamcha and Kakarot.
"Hi, I'm Yamcha," Yamcha introduced himself while rubbing the back of his head. "I'm Bulma's boyfriend."
"I'm Omori," the man introduced himself. "Retired scientist."
Kakarot sat down at the back of the boat, without saying anything. With everyone on board, Omori start the journey back to his island.
"Who's the better between scientist, you or Bulma?" Yamcha asked innocently.
Omori suddenly remembered the first time he met Bulma, when a five-year old Bulma solved Jaco's spaceship issue with ease. Then he shivered when he remembered the laser gun she invented.
"…"
Bulma laughed arrogantly. "Its not even a contest, I am far smarter than him!"
Omori made no attempt to dispute her statement.
Meanwhile, Kakarot was looking at the pier as it slowly grew smaller. "Why are we taking a boat? Wouldn't it be much easier to fly there?"
Omori slowly turned and looked at Kakarot with an expression that bordered on relief. "Finally, someone normal. For some reason, Bulma and Tight's whole family only travel to my island via boat. They're a strange lot."
Kakarot leaned back slightly when Omori called him normal, and he crossed his arms when Bulma was the one called strange.
Just thinking about being the normal one in his group caused his tail to twitch in amusement. If it wasn't hidden under coat, Kakarot tail would be swaying.
Bulma didn't take Omori's comment well. She would've been slightly annoyed if Omori had only called her strange, but he didn't. He said that Kakarot was normal while she was strange.
In other words, she was weirder than the magic monkey boy.
She took that as well as oil mixes with water.
Magical Index 2- Saiyan's Great Ape form
One of the chief indicators of a member of the saiyan race is their monkey-like tail. This tail is known for its ability to transform a Saiyan into a Great Ape by absorbing Blutz waves from any orbiting satellites.
After becoming a Great Ape, most Saiyans lose control of them, becoming raging beast that move on destructive instinct alone. A select, elite, group of Sayians are known to have learned how to maintain their sense of self while in this form, but the method to do so is unknown.
It is theorized by some that the Saiyan race was once made up of giant apes that gained intelligence, who then somehow took on humanoid form. Unfortunately, not much information on the Saiyans of old remain after the destruction of their original homeworld, Planet Sadala, making it impossible to know if this is true or not.
Interestingly, it has been reported that some magical energy is detected whenever a Saiyan transforms into a Great Ape. This has led some to believe that the Great Ape transformation was originally magically in nature but became scientific after the Sayians wiped out the Tuffles and absorbed their technology. This theory is also applied to the mysterious S-cells found in Saiyan blood.
Whether or not this is true, the presence of magical energy during a Saiyan's transformation implies that there might be more to the Saiyan's Great Ape form than meets the eye.
Sadly, it is unlike that the secrets of this form will be uncovered, after the destruction of Planet Vegeta, and most of the Saiyan race.
Magical Index 3- Saiyan transformation suppression
Among the scattered documents, that survived the destruction of Planet Sadala, this magical technique is mentioned in relation to the Saiyan's Great Ape transformation.
This technique is said to have been used by the mages of Planet Sadala, as a means to suppress their transformation. This spell works by having a Saiyan focus their magical energy into their tail. The magical energy will then suppress the transformation, keeping the Saiyan in humanoid form.
This technique isn't perfect though, as the Saiyan must keep the spell up continuously, or they'll end up transforming into a Great Ape. The Saiyan must also have strong willpower, as the transformation is only suppressed, not eliminated, meaning that a Saiyan in this state is still being influence by their base instincts.
One surviving second-hand account claims that masters of this technique were able to suppress the transformation itself, while still gaining the power of the Great Ape. Though, the legitimacy of this claim is debated.
Magical Index 4- Saiyan Mages
The Saiyan race is known for its combat ability, not its intelligence. This fact holds true for Saiyan Mages too, who's magic was almost exclusively combat based.
The only known non-combat spells were those related to healing, and possibly transformation suppression. Which were seemingly developed to help heal people, so that they could get into fighting faster.
The majority of their combat spells were not complex, but extremely simple. In practice, the most complex combat spell you would likely come across on Plant Sadala, would be basic elemental attack spells. Most spells instead focused on the simple act of boosting a Saiyans power level, through various means. Though, most of them have been lost to time.
This is not to say that all magic created by Saiyan's was simple, as the lost ritual to create a Saiyan god is most like far more complex than simple fire or lightning spells, but spells this complex were almost completely non-existent.
Saiyan mages were known to have possessed one special trait that separated them from other races' magic users, and that was the ability to improve their magic circuits with use. This means that they have almost limitless potential, in regards to their magical energy capacity.
In terms of population, it is estimated that only about one in every million Saiyans posses the ability to use magic. This means that it was possible that not even a single Saiyan was born with the ability to use magic since the fall of Planet Sadala. And even if one was born, it was likely that their talent was completely missed by modern Saiyans, who have forgotten the ways of magic.
It should be noted though, that even during the time of Planet Sadala, many Saiyans who could use magic, either didn't know they could, or choose not to use it. The population of Planet Sadala, before its destruction, is unknown, but assuming it had a population of around one billion, that would mean there would be around 1000 saiyans capable of using magic. Among those, half of them probably didn't know they could use magic, and another quarter of them decided not to use magic. Meaning that only a quarter of the people capable of using magic, actively study it. Or 250 Saiyans for every billion.
All that we know about how Saiyan mages were treated comes from a single diary, that was found on one of Planet Sadala's moons, and is considered to be the last document written by an ancient Saiyan. According to the diary, Saiyan mages were below normal Saiyans socially, due to the fact they spent time training their magics, instead of fighting. Mages though, were able to raise their standings by proving themselves in battle. Magus, with ability to heal, were also sought after by Saiyan nobility for their abilities, as Saiyan nobility often had to fight constantly to maintain their status. This led to many of them being among the economic elite, but they were still culturally low if they lack the ability to fight.
Also, according to that diary, when the war that destroyed Planet Sadala started, many of the mages sided with the Super Sayian God (race). The journal implies that the war was fought between this subspecies of Saiyan and the ancestors of the modern Sayian. Based on the notes from the journal, it is likely that most, if not all, of the major Saiyan magic bloodlines were wiped out with the destruction of their homeworld.
To summarize, Saiyan mages were an extremely small subset of Saiyans that were immensely skilled at combat magic, and had one uniquely powerful trait, but were wiped out before they could fulfill their potential.
Magical Index 5- Magic in the universe
Magic has been a part of the galactic community, since the first space-faring peoples meet. Despite that though, many people don't believe in its existence, or think it is just a different application of Ki. Most of these people are those who come from worlds where magic isn't practiced or haven't encountered it.
These incorrect viewpoints are, unfortunately, reinforced by the rarity of magic throughout the galactic community. This rarity of magic is caused by how few magic users leave their homeworlds, and due to the likelihood that those who do, are going to try and hide their magics. (Not counting those, like members of the Namekians' dragon clan, who can naturally preform a few low-level spells.)
To give one a better picture of how rare magic is, even organizations as large as the Frieza force, lack any magic users. Another example would be the Galactic Patrol, who doesn't have any members capable of using magic, and there's only a small handful of their prisoners that can use it, despite Galactic Patrol being an organization that is millions of years old.
Whenever magic does appear, it is often viewed with suspicion by some groups of people, like the softs from Planet Drink, who think that magic is unnatural and should be outlawed. Meanwhile, organizations with military/combat roles, are likely to try and recruit the magic user, assuming their magic is good for combat.
In terms of laws, historically magic has fewer regulations that Ki, due to its rarity and flexibility making it pointless to try and regulate it.
Magical Index 6- Magical Races
The term 'magical races' applies to two different groups, races that naturally have magical abilities, and races born of magic. In modern times, 'magic races' it is assumed that this term refers to the former, rather than the latter.
An example of the first, would be the Namekians, who all naturally possess the ability to use magic. All members of these races have the ability to use magic, but that doesn't mean that they're all equal. The individual levels within the can vary wildly. They are likely to have strong magical tradition and strong thaumaturgical foundations.
Races born of magic refers to any races that was create through magic or are made of magic. These races are extremely rare.
Magical index 7- Thaumaturgical foundations
Thaumaturgical foundations are the foundational cluster of magic formula used by most mages to cast spells. They are formed through belief, and a magus's magic weakens the further they are from their foundation. It is possible that magic could stop working once they are far enough from their foundation. Some magi don't have to worry about this since they cast magic without using foundations. Thaumaturgical foundations work on two levels, the planetary level, and the inner-planetary level.
The inner-planetary level refers to how thaumaturgical foundations interact within their world. This level on matters when someone is within the world's influence. Thaumaturgical foundations are at their strongest within this level of their homeworld, and multiple foundations can be used by a single magus. There can be countless foundations within this level but are far weaker than foundations at the planetary level.
The planetary level refers to the Thaumaturgical foundation of the world overall, an example being the Namekians' thaumaturgical foundation. It is formed through the way the galaxy as a whole views the magic of the world. The more a race/world is considered 'magical' the stronger the foundation is, and the formula's within are comprise of all the formulas in the inner-planetary level foundations.
Ironically, this means that magics that are weak within the planet, could grow stronger in space due to the planet being viewed as 'magical'. The opposite is also true, a Thaumaturgical foundation that is strong on a planet, could be far weaker in space, if galaxy at large views them as 'nonmagical.'
The strength of a planet's thaumaturgical foundation, at the planetary level, is based on belief, but it is not limited to believing something is magic. In other words, just acknowledging that a race can do something, is enough to strengthen a thaumaturgical foundation.
It is nearly impossible for a magic-users to change the planetary foundation they are born into, but they can still use spells from other worlds, by reconstructing the correct magic formula from scratch, or by somehow adding it to their planetary foundation.
Interestingly, thaumaturgical foundations are linked to the people of a planet, not the planet itself, meaning that the planetary thaumaturgical foundation can survive as long as a people are alive, even after the destruction of their world. This is why planetary level foundation refer to the race of people on a planet, not the planet itself, see the earlier example of the Namekians' thaumaturgical foundation. Multiple races can be linked to a foundation too, such as the Yardratian thaumaturgical foundation that is used by both races living on Yadrat.
AN:
Hi, been a while. What do Y'all think about the magic indexes?
The reason for that being that this chapter keep refusing to save. Several times while writing this, thousands of words didn't save. That's why some of the scenes are super short, because I've given up! :)
Y'all don't know how annoying it is to keep rewriting the same scenes over and over again. This chapter went longer y'know?! Like the red ribbon army base was the whole thing full of Doctor G's robotics, but it got narrowed down to what it is because I just don't feel like rewriting it again, or the scene with that government agent.
Godddd, I gotta rewrite the entire Jaco scene agai! whatever. Once that scene's written, this story should be updated faster.
By the way, if anyone complains about some of these scenes being rushed, that's your opinion but know I'll reach through the screen like the girl from the ring and beat yo ass.
Ahem, sorry for that. The shear pent up anger I have for this chapter is leaking out. Let's just sweep that under the rug and end this AN before that anger breaks free again. Okey Dokey arca choke!
Have a wonderful day!
