The boat rocked back and forth as it traveled across the ocean, the lights that ran along the side of the boat the only source of illumination for the passengers who milled about, restless or fighting seasickness. One such passenger, who had been heaving over the side of the boat for several minutes, collapsed against a wall and groaned. "I'd kill for some firewhiskey right now."
His companion, who was in no better shape, slid down the wall beside him. "That wouldn't help you, it would just come right back up."
"Aye, maybe," the first agreed. "But at least I'd get to taste it twice. Bugger me, why the hell are we on this floating prison anyways?"
"Can't rightly stay in the United States now can we?" the friend, his face covered beneath his cowl, growled. "Not after you got caught cursing all of that Muggle jewelry."
"So what if a few Muggles got hurt, there's plenty more of them." The tone can only be described as supremely unconcerned.
The two went silent as a passerby appeared from within the ship's interior. He was a tall fellow, with long brown hair and sporting a scraggly beard. They watched him glance over at them and then grunt and pull his cloak around his body even tighter. They couldn't blame him, it was terribly cold.
"Oi, mate, you don't happen to have any whiskey do ya?" the first wizard called, lurching unsteadily to his feet. "I tell you, I could absolutely go for some."
"Sorry, not on me." The stranger said, turning to face them. They never saw his hand slip into his pocket and withdraw a small slender stick. "You two alright?"
"Jus' peachy." The man with the cowl said. "I love feeling like I'm about to puke my guts up."
"Good, then you might understand how those Muggles you cursed must feel right about now. The ones that are still alive, anyways.
The two went still in shock, but then they both went for their wands at the same second. They weren't fast enough. The two wands were sent spinning end over end into the ocean, sinking beneath the waves. "Jim Williams and Sean Braix. I've been sent by the Ministry of Magic to bring you two in."
"You idiot, we're in international waters here," Sean sneered. "Right now we are as free as birds, United States laws don't affect us none here."
"Suit yourself." Sam said, shrugging. "Impedimenta!"
Sean's breath whooshed out of his lungs as he felt an invisible force slam into his chest and send him falling over the railing. He went beneath the waves, swallowed a mouthful of water, and then came up sputtering. "H-help!" he called, or at least he tried to. But no words or sound came. He was forced to watch, in mounting horror, as the boat chugged further and further away from him, leaving him stranded in the middle of the ocean.
Jim, his cowl now pushed back, watched his friend go over the edge but he made no move to help him. Not with that wand pointed at him. "Now, let's take it easy here," he said, patting the air slowly. "I surrender."
"That jewelry you helped to curse hurt a lot of innocent people." Sam said, his tone conversational. "One of the necklaces strangled a six year old little girl, and an eight year old boy had his hand cut off from a watch. Neither of them made it."
"That wasn't me, Sean made those curses," he said at once, denying everything.
"So you admit that you knew about them." It wasn't a question, and Sam's voice was cold. "A lot of people got hurt. Families are broken because of your sick little prank.
Jim felt a shiver run up his spine. This man, whoever he was, dangerous was an understatement. He, very slowly, brought his hands up and put them above his head. "I surrender." He said again.
"The Ministry wants me to bring you back for a fair trial." Sam said, "Or at the very least capture you so that someone can. I have somewhere else to be, so I can't. But I don't think I want to take that chance. I've been tracking you two for a long time. I know how slippery you can be."
"I won't go anywhere, I swear I won't try to escape," Jim said, pleading. He saw no mercy in Sam's eyes.
"No, I don't think you will." Sam said quietly. He flicked his wand and a large gash appeared across Jim's chest, blood blossoming from it almost at once.
An animalistic cry of pain came from the man as he stumbled backwards and grabbed onto the railing of the ship for support. He brought a hand to his chest and was about to look at it when he felt suddenly weightless. The last thing that he saw before falling beneath the waves was the cold, merciless face of the Auror as he threw him off.
Sam stood at the railing which had previously been occupied by the Dark Wizards and looked back at the darkness covered ocean. Without wands and with their fear and worry overtaking them they wouldn't be able to Apparate. They were well and truly stranded, and the blood that was now in the water from the slash across Jim's chest was sure to attract some hungry company. Either way, their lives were effectively over.
He put his wand beneath his teeth and withdrew a pen and paper from within his coat and quickly wrote a small note. "The Dark Wizards, Jim Williams and Sean Braix, who were wanted in connection with the jewelry store curses, have been killed after resisting arrest. Sam Winchester, Auror."
He tossed the paper into the air and, with a muttered spell, it went flying off into the night as Sam turned to head back inside. For a moment, just before the door closed, he thought that he heard someone screaming and pleading desperately for help. He shrugged it off and returned to the warmth inside, ready to return to Hogwarts.
Hello my readers,
Apologies for the delay between chapters. I've been rather busy of late. I will do my utmost to have the next chapter up by next Friday, but I can't promise that. My apologies for the shorter chapter here but I felt that Sam's activities over the summer and his current mindset deserved their own chapters. I'll leave it to you, my readers, would you like to see more of a story progression next chapter or would you rather see what Charlie or Bobby were up to this summer? Also, I have the first two chapters of the Arrowverse/Supernatural crossover finished! When I have 5 finished I'll begin posting them.
Cheers, Hallowed.
