Alina stared at Genya, her eyes alight with shock. It had been months since she saw Genya. Her hair was still fiery red and she was still wearing the red kefta she wore on the day of the crossing of The Fold. After their little argument in the tent, Alina hadn't seen Genya since.

She was supposed to be her friend. She trusted her with everything she said, everything she told her. All her letters she gave her to send to Mal and not a single one sent. Alina knew that wasn't her fault as she was following orders from Kirigan but still, she could have told her. if she truly was her friend, she would have told her.

She wondered where Genya had been all this time. She hadn't seen her around the little palace and she was sure Kirigan would use her for other missions. With the king and queen gone now, Genya was no longer subjected to being a servant and would no longer have to endure the kings' filthy misconduct.

Genya was just as shocked to see Alina. she had been sent on a mission across the Shu Han, spying on the queen there. Of course, she had to keep her Grisha powers hidden otherwise her cover would have been blown and she would have been taken for experimentation but she was able to become a maid there at the palace, serving the queens daughter.

She had only just come back and was informing the general of the information she obtained. It was known the Shu Han were considering an attack on Os Alta and the king. Now that they had this information, Kirigan could move forward with taking over the nation.

Genya locked eyes with Alina as she sat by a small table. She was currently using her tailoring to remove the bags under her eyes from the terrible sleeps she had during her time in Shu Han. Genya never wanted to end things on bad terms with Alina. Her friendship with her was genuine but her loyalty to Kirigan was important as well. She wanted peace for Ravka as much as he did and he was the only one to ever do anything about it. Having served that king and queen for years, Genya wanted nothing more than to see them die.

Kirigan kept a firm grip on Alina's wrist and she tugged to pull out of it but he was much stronger.

"I have a job for you" Kirigan said, his voice low and cold and Genya furrowed her brows in confusion. Kirigan yanked Alina forward, his hand still gripping her wrist and he squeezed it hard enough for her palm to open.

"Get rid of it" he ordered and Genya glanced at her palm before looking up at Alina.

"No" Alina tried to tug her wrists free but Kirigan held it still. She hissed as the pain of his grip was causing her hand to turn blue from the blood supply being cut off and her hand tingled with numbness.

"Genya don't" Alina pleaded. She prayed that Genya would see sense and not do it. She knew how much Mal meant to Alina.

"She listens to me not you, do it now" he gritted and Genya gulped, standing up from the stool. Alina looked at her with pleading eyes.

"No, I won't let you do this" Alina seethed, fighting back and Kirigan turned around, giving her a hard look.

"It's time you forgot about him; he only holds you back" Kirigan said in a low whisper.

"I'll never forget him, no matter how much you try" she barked back. Alina was adamant that Mal would not be forgotten but she was scared that Kirigan could be right in that if he did erase the scar and living through her bone with him, she would forget about him eventually.

"You will forget about him until the only person you think about is me" he threatened and whipped around. He held Alina's hand out in front, her palm facing up so the scar was visible.

"Now!" he ordered again but Genya was frozen. She gulped and she slowly lifted her hand but Alina stopped her.

"No Genya, don't do this… please" Alina was begging and Genya glanced between Alina and Kirigan. She felt so conflicted. She saw the pain in Alina's eyes but if she didn't do as ordered, Kirigan could dub her a traitor.

"Genya" Kirigan warned. Alina saw her sighed and start to lift her hand again to press on her palm.

No, I can't let her do this

"Genya, he killed David, he killed his own Grisha" Alina didn't want to use that against her but it was the only thing that would make her stop. Genya stopped mid-way, her eyes widening and she looked over at Kirigan, mouth parted.

"No" she whispered and Kirigan sucked in a deep breath, nostrils flaring, dark shadows were starting to creep on the walls of the room and the lightening was fading.

"He was a traitor Genya, he went behind me and was going to abandon Ravka and all Grisha… I will not have traitors in my country" he said a little softer and Alina shook her head.

"He was helping and he didn't deserve it" Alina shouted. Genya shook her head, her hands covering her forehead as she tried to take it all in. was what Alina saying true? Had Kirigan really killed David? She didn't know what to think or to do.

"I won't ask again, get rid of it!" Kirigan commanded and Genya took a shuddering breath, holding back tears in her eyes. She stepped forward and once again lifted her fingers. Genya's finger was so close to her palm but before she could touch it, Alina kicked her foot in the back of Kirigan's knee, sending him down with a groan. Genya shot back with shock and Alina pulled herself out of his grip.

Alina pulled her hands together, summoning her light which cleared the shadows on the walls and lit up the room. Genya turned away to stop the light from blinding her and Alina held it in front to protect her. Kirigan looked over his shoulder, the light making it difficult to see and so he summoned a shadow from the ground, the darkness swirling up into a shadowy figure and it stood behind him, its long arms hanging as it slumped over.

He didn't need to command it for it to lurched forward and attack the light, puffing out as it hit it. Alina stumbled back as the shadow solider had destroyed her light and she turned on her feet to run to the door but was yanked backwards by a shadow hand, claws digging into her shoulder.

The shadow solider took her in its claw hands, dragging her back to where Kirigan stood. She felt stupid thinking she'd be able to run and even if she didn't, she wouldn't make it very far but it was worth a shot. The shadow held her on the floor on her knees, holding her wrists in even claw and Kirigan padded to her, staring down.

He reached for her wrists and yanked it from the shadow, gripping it hard and turned it face up to expose the scar for Genya. Alina tried to fight the shadow claws restraining her but she was unable to use her power and Kirigan's shadow was too strong.

"I said, get rid of it" he gritted through his teeth, his voice just above a whisper and Genya gave Alina a painful look. Genya stepped forward and Alina watched in terror. As Genya lifted her finger, Alina could have sworn she saw her lips silently.

I'm sorry

Genya's finger touched the scar and she ran it across it, the scar disappearing as her finger left it and it was gone. Her palm was flat with no raised skin, no bump for her to trace, no memorial to remember Mal by. Alina blinked the tears away but a few fell down her cheeks. Kirigan released a deep breath before letting her wrists go. He waved his hand and the shadow solider vanished, the shadows smoking and Alina dropped her arm to her, clutching it tightly.

She sobbed quietly as she looked at her hand, the scar no longer there.

Hey so I hope you like it, let me know in the reviews what you think
