Daphne Is In The Details

Chapter 3

Harry Potter And The Required Forms

"Now that the contract is signed, there are just a few things to go over." Daphne had given Harry a copy of the contract for his records, while she maintained one with herself as well the one to be filed with the ministry. She pulled out a leather bound book and more documents from a briefcase settling everything on the table in front of her.

"I have spoken with your house elf and he has informed me that you only have Sundays free at the moment. I have taken the liberty of scheduling appointments with and Gringotts for this following Sunday." She handed him documents with a list of what needed to be done at each establishment.

"I will look into getting you a hearing at the Ministry scheduled for the 28th of August to clear up your infractions. Obviously I will meet you there and afterwards we will proceed to Diagon Alley and have your wardrobe addressed." She stopped speaking and turned to him letting him know he may speak now.

"Just a few questions, if you don't mind." He paused and she gave him a nod to proceed. "I'll start at the top. What house elf? I don't have a house elf, though the information you received is strangely accurate. Also this is a lot to get done in the very little free time I have available. The other thing I should mention is I'll be shopping on the 21st so you won't have to worry about my wardrobe. I'll buy some robes then." He rushed to get as much out before she wouldn't let him talk anymore.

"First of all those were hardly questions, mostly statements. Your house elf's name is Dobby, I checked with the ministries elf registry while going over your records there. The second point is that I'm not responsible for your poor time management, if you came prepared this would have been taken care of already." For some reason her words made Harry feel guilty.

"You are also incorrect, if there is one thing I know for sure is that I have to be concerned with your wardrobe. Today is the first time I've seen you dressed half decent." She took a breath to calm herself. "No, we will meet on the 28th and we will address your wardrobe then. By that point I will have my dress so we can get you the appropriate dress robes to match."

"What are dress robes and why do we have to match?" Harry was feeling like was reading a book with half the pages ripped out and he was expected to work it out.

"Dress robes are formal robes, one would wear to dance or a ball. Obviously we will need to match as you will be escorting me to the Yule Ball. The letter explained this."

"What are you talking about, there was zero mention of any kind of ball in that letter, I read the thing like a hundred times."

"Why else would I begin dating you a year earlier than planned? I stated very clearly that circumstances have changed. What else could I have meant?"

Harry wanted to reply that there were over a billion different things she could have meant by that statement but he imagined she would disagree. He just hoped one day he'd be able to figure out what she's talking about without needing it explained to him like a child. That day was a long way off he imagined so he just replied. "My mistake."

She nodded in agreement. "Lets focus. I am also providing you with a daily planner. It's charmed so anything you fill in, also fills in on mine. Obviously this works in reverse if I add something on my end it will update on your end. This makes it much easier for me to manage your life."

It was at this point that Harry realized Daphne wasn't insane but in fact Harry himself was very much insane. She'd had given plenty of warnings surely any other boy would have ran long before now. Yet Harry persisted. This was beyond hormonal teenager not thinking straight around a pretty girl. There was something wrong with Harry.

When Daphne admitted to managing Harry's life he wasn't angry. He was relieved. His life had always felt like a burden, from the Dursleys, to Voldemort, to basilisks and dementors. It was too much; he didn't want to deal with it. He was barely fourteen and his adversities could fill a few books.

He had actually contemplated a few times this summer dropping out of Hogwarts and asking the McDougals to adopt him. He could go to Muggle school and help out on the farm. Maybe go on to be a history teacher, or something with music. It was a nice dream but he would miss magic.

This was better. He would have a nice quiet year no matter what hijinks occurred. Daphne wouldn't let him get involved, mystery solving had to be a violation of the contract. This was perfect, a beautiful girl to take all his problems away.

The meeting ended shortly after. Daphne gave him a demonstration of the planner before passing him over the leather bound book. Harry was instructed to pay the bartender for their lunch and to provide a little extra for the disruption. He gave thirty pounds and thanked him.

On the bus back to town he looked over the planner. He noticed the inside was inscribed "Property of Daphne O. Greengrass." . He wondered if it was the planner or Harry himself being referred to as property. He imagined it was both.

He had time after getting back to town to borrow some books from the library and buy two more cassettes. He didn't look at what ones he bought, he just asked the clerk to surprise him. Afterward he made his way back to Privet Drive.

He had time before he could sneak upstairs so he spent the last couple hours at the nearby park. He read about the Wars of the Roses while listening to Soundgarden's Superunknown.

Today was a good day.

The week went by fairly normally for Harry, he was making really good progress on the fence and was feeling quite proud of how it was turning out. He would probably be done a week after the Quidditch world cup.

Ron had written Harry back saying that just the weekend would be fine, the Burrow would have been boring anyways as he started volunteering at during the day. Harry couldn't imagine Ron volunteering to do anything other than quidditch and chess. He would have to see what was going on with his friend when they met up.

Harry also received a very heartwarming letter from Daphne, who knew she could be so romantic.

Heir Harry James Potter

I have come to the decision that you will be dropping Divination as an elective and instead take up Ancient Runes. You may continue your studies in Care of Magical Creatures for the time being until a more suitable option can be determined.

Professor McGongal and Professor Babbling have both agreed to this change. You'll have an exam on the 2nd of September to determine your knowledge on the subject. This has already been added into your planner.

I have provided you with the text books we used last year, as well as the notes I took in class. It is my expectation that you will pass the exam with an exceeds expectations or higher. Please devote an adequate amount of time each day to your studies. I do not wish to be disappointed.

Heiress Daphne Odette Greengrass

Harry never put any thought into his electives, he just followed Ron's advice that it was an easy OWL. He definitely didn't enjoy Divination, he had no aptitude for it, the class was a pain to get to and the teacher had a tendency to predict his death.

Ancient Runes seemed interesting though a little on the dry side. It was essentially learning how to read and write various ancient texts like hieroglyphs. The class opened up a lot of career options, as it was the base of many fields of magic.

Harry decided to dedicate as much free time as possible to his studies for the course. This was a chance for Harry to impress Daphne and he was determined to get an outstanding on his exam.

Sunday morning had Harry jogging into town with a set of robes stored in his backpack. The first bus into London was at 8:00 with his appointment at Gringotts for 10:00 he would be cutting it close.

He spent his journey studying ruins, to reach his goal he would have to take advantage of all his available time. It wasn't something you couldn't rush too much though as there are a lot of symbols for the brain to process. Harry also had to hope he was understanding things properly as he had no one to validate his studies.

The bus dropped him off at Kings Cross and he made his way over to the Leaky Cauldron. He pulled his robes from his bag and threw them over his regular clothes. He asked Tom if he could leave his bag in the cloak room while he took care of business in the alley. Tom of course was happy to oblige.

The alley was quiet seeing as it was early on a Sunday morning. Harry made his way to Gringotts with only a mere five minutes to spare. He made his way up to the teller, he wanted to say it was the same goblin that helped him four years ago but honestly every goblin looked somewhat similar.

"Hello, sir I have an appointment with Swordfist this morning." Harry smiled as he spoke to the goblin, hopefully it was charming.

"I have a name wizard, it's on the plaque right in front of you." The goblin pointed at the name plate that said "Griphook" right in front of him. "It would also be polite to state your name so I may confirm the appointment."

"Ah, yes sorry umm.. . My name is Harry Potter sir."

"Enough with the Mr. and sir bullshite, goblins are goblins. The only titles we have are our names which we earn in battle. I suggest you just cease with the insincere pleasantries before I teach you how I earned my name sir." The goblin stared down at Harry like he was contemplating ripping his heart from his chest.

Harry had to wonder if this goblin was friends with Snape; they both seemed to be openly hostile for no reason. Maybe Harry's dad used to pick on this goblin as well, he'd have to ask the next time he hears from Sirius.

"Very good. Swordfist's office is down the main hall third on the left. Now leave."

Harry didn't need to be told twice. He turned around, crossed the atrium and made his way down the main hall. He approached the door, giving it a firm knock.

"Come in Heir Potter, have a seat." Harry followed the goblins instructions. The first he noticed about the goblin that one of his hands had been amputated and replaced with a sword. Apparently goblin names were meant to be literal and descriptive.

"Why did you call me Heir Potter?" Daphne addressed him as that in letters but it was the first time he heard it out loud, made him curious.

"That is your title. Why that is so I am not sure probably the same reason you wizards wear dresses. I do not know nor do I care about what the rats do as long as they don't take a bite of my food. I suggest you ask one of your own Heir Potter, the only thing that interests me about wizards is their gold." The disdain was clear in his voice.

"Now if I am correct Heir Potter you are here to sign off on the account changes set up by your intended Heiress Greengrass." He looked at Harry for a response.

"Yes, she mentioned setting up an investment vault. Apparently you can move the unused galleons at the end of each month automatically from my trust vault."

"Correct. Heiress Greengrass has already set up an account in both your names with her acting as primary. Galleons will also be coming in from her account in a similar manner. She will direct all investing for the time being."

They hadn't even been on a first date and she set up a joint account for them. He'll have to discuss this with her, but it didn't for now. He doubted he would have much going in this month with all the expenses he would have this month. Also she would be putting in her old galleons as well so it seemed like a reasonable idea.

"Very well what do I need to do to get this done?"

"You just have to sign this form here, the rest of the paperwork was completed by Heiress Greengrass." He handed a document over along with a blood quill.

Harry read the paper over carefully. It essentially was giving Daphne full access to his vault and permissions to act as the vault owner. She could make both withdrawals and transfers without needing any additional permission from Harry. Once again he had to question his sanity as he signed the form.

The goblin read the form over to verify all was in place. When satisfied he filed the form into one of the drawers in his desk.

"You're lucky man, Heir Potter, your intended has goblin blood in her, we gave her a name; WordHammer." The goblin chuckled.

"Now goblins don't care much for words we find violence much more appropriate. However, her words struck hard. Poor Griphook I had never seen a goblin cry before. He gave into whatever demands she had, truly impressive."

Harry wasn't sure what to say, he felt proud to be associated with her. Though he also felt shame that the same goblin who she brought to tears made him feel like an idiot. The intended thing is a little scary but it explains how she convinced them to hand over all his vault information.

Harry was dismissed after that and made his way over to the floo in the atrium. He paid the ten sickles in order to use the bank's floo and travelled over to . Once he arrived he found his way to the front desk hoping they would be less hostile then the goblins.

"Hello miss, my name's Harry Potter, I was wondering if a healer would be able to see me. I have a list of several things I need to have looked at or at least looked over." The minute he said his name was Harry Potter the witch's demeanor changed and she quickly looked for Harry's scar.

"Now do you have a personal healer ?" The witch asked.

"I'm really not sure, I haven't been to before."

"Let me see if you have a file, either way it shouldn't be hard to find someone who wants to be the boy-who-lived's personal healer." The witch smiled at him before turning to a filing cabinet behind her. It must have been some special charm work because one tap of her wand and a file came shooting out.

"Let me just take a looky here." The witch started reading through the file. "Ah, Healer Tonks is registered as your family healer. Must have been your parents' healer, there's no record of you visiting after your first birthday." She looked at a book on the desk in front of her. "Well she's not in at the moment but she is listed as on call, let me just give her a quick floo."

The witch went to a room that was behind the desk she left the door open so Harry could see her standing in front of a large floo. "Hello, Sorry to bother you Andy but is wanting to see a healer and your name is on his file." There was a pause as Harry couldn't make out what the other person was saying. "Yes Andy, Harry Potter." Pause. "Yes, he's standing at my desk right this moment." Pause. "Very well I'll send him to your office and let him know you'll be there shortly."

The witch made her way back to Harry. "Alright . Healer Tonks will be seeing you shortly, if you just head into the elevator and state Healer Tonks Office, you'll be transported there."

"Thank you...Sorry I didn't get your name."

"Madeline is fine . Now off you go, I need to get back to my witch weekly quiz" Madeline smiled as she waved him off.

"Thank you Madeline, you were very helpful."

Harry entered the elevator that felt more like a phone booth, awkwardly yeld out. "Healer Tonks Office." Instantly he shot into the air, before jarringly stopping a half second later, just to be yanked to the right coming to a very abrupt stop. A door opened opposite of the way he came in and he fell through tumbling on the ground.

There were two chairs, a hospital bed and various contraptions that Harry assumed had medical purposes. The walls had colorful paintings on them, looked like they were done by a five year old but they were put in expensive frames. Harry admired the art as he waited.

About ten minutes after he arrived a lady entered the office. She had long black hair, sharp grey eyes, she was quite beautiful. She was wearing white auror robes while holding a clipboard.

"It's nice to see you again Harry, though you've grown considerably since the last time I saw you." The Healer seemed apprehensive Harry wasn't sure why.

"I'm sorry I don't recognize you."

"I don't suppose you would, you were just a year old when I last saw you."

"Did you know my parents then?" The hope was obvious in his voice.

"Oh, Yes I Knew James and Lily very well. I used to babysit James when he was a young boy for my Aunt Dorea who was your grandmother."

"So we're related?" Harry didn't know he had any family.

"Technically yes by blood not magic. I was born a Black like your grandmother. So we both have

Black blood in us. Now I was disowned from the family for marrying my husband who was muggleborn. Thus the Black magics were removed from me. So in the muggle world we'd be like third cousins but in the wizarding world we have no relation. If that makes any sense." The words seem to weigh heavy on her.

"Not in the slightest but I'm assuming that's why I was raised by muggles and not you?" It wasn't said as an accusation, just a general question.

"Yes, I hope you're not upset. I didn't know you lived with muggles though. I filed with the wizengamot for your custody, after word of your parents and Sirius got out. Dumbledor approached me and asked me to retract my bid. He told me that because I was disowned the wizengamot would dismiss the claim but it would make my sister Narcissa who married a known death eater Lucious Malfoy your legal guardians once the Black heritage got out. We both agreed that could not happen." Her eyes were beginning to water.

"I guess I should thank you. It wasn't pleasant living with the muggles but it would have to be better than growing up with Draco as a brother." Harry gave her a smile.

She chuckled. "Yes or Lucious as a father." They both laughed.

"I should probably officially introduce myself. I am Healer Andromeda Tonks but you may call me Andi if you like. It's very nice to meet you ." She held her hand and he shook it.

"Alright Andi it is but please call me Harry."

"As you wish. So what brings you to my office Harry?" she sat down in her chair and gestured for Harry to sit down next to her. She pulled out a pen and sat her clipboard on her lap, waiting for Harry to respond.

Harry pulled out the document Daphne gave him and passed to Andi as he sat down. "I was asked to look into the things on that list, as well I need signed and notarized proof of all that has been done."

Andi read over the list carefully checking and making notes on her clipboard as she went along. "Are you trying to join an auror program or something? Harry, this is quite comprehensive."

"No, nothing like that. It's a bit silly but my girlfriend asked me to get all this checked out." he said with an awkward smile.

"Merlin's Beard! You're actually dating that crazy Greengrass girl? I thought she was just another stocker or journalist. She harassed me for weeks about getting your medical records, kept saying it was crucial as the two of you were formalizing a contract and had to certify her investment was in working order." She said with the tact of a trained healer.

"I'm sorry, I imagine she was just concerned for me." Hopefully she wouldn't ask any follow up because he doubted he could do much to defend her behavior.

"Well that's good you have someone who cares about you." A distinct lack of sincerity in her voice. "We better get started beforenshe files a complaint against the board of governors."

They started with a wizard's physical examination. It involved running on a treadmill while maintaining the lumos charm to make sure both his body and magic were where they should be. Some of the gadgets were used to do things like a full body scan, check blood pressure, and determine magical flow consistency. It took just over an hour but Harry was a very healthy wizard.

Andi explained she wasn't qualified to do the eye surgery but could schedule him with one but it required him staying overnight at . She would also like for a specialist to look at his scar as it behaved unusually and worried her. They agreed on August the 26th for both specialists.

At the end of it he received all his missing inoculations which was quite a few. Andi said he should thank Daphne as if never got him to visit, he would have been vulnerable to many diseases including the one that killed off his grandparents.

Harry was given notarized signed documentation of his treatments, as well as the results of his physical examination. He will mail them to Daphne tonight with a letter telling her he had scheduled an appointment for the 26th for his scar and eyes. Also warning her if there are any complications he may not be able to be at the ministry on the 28th.

Harry left 's flooring to the Leaky Cauldron, grabbing his bag from Tom and storing his robes inside. He snuck back into Privet Drive a few hours early. He put his appointments in the planner and sent his letter off to Daphne with Hedwig.

Harry had a strange dream that night about being an old man walking through a rundown mansion. Only to be killed by a fetus sitting in an armchair. He woke in the middle of the night sweating but quickly shook off as a stange drug induced dream.
