Chapter 2

The sun was starting to set outside the windows when Logan, Carlos, Mama Knight, and Katie all came stumbling through the door at the same time. James was on the couch by this point, flipping lazily through channels. He had recently checked on Kendall (who was still sick as a dog) when he got overplaying his online game. James sighed in relief when he saw the door open, and the rest of the household clang came in. The others went about their typical night when Carlos and Logan on the couch joined James. Mama Knight was in the kitchen, and Katie was looking at stuff on the laptop.

"Where's Kendall? He was on the couch when we left." Logan questioned with a raised eyebrow; catching Mama Knight's attention, she looked up from her task.

James sighs and says, "He's sick. He's sleeping in your bed right now, Logie. Sorry, he puked all over, and I had to get the sheets to the laundry." James finishes with a frown.

"What!?" The sudden exclamation gasp from Mama Knight made them all jump. She has a big frown as she says, "My poor baby is sick!? What are his symptoms, and what have you done to help him so far?" She questions as she eyes, James.

"For his fever, he has a 102.9 so far. He has a headache, dizziness, he's puked once so far, and he's been sleeping mostly." James lists as he counts the symptoms off with his fingers. "As for helping him, I gave him some cold medicine you had in the cabinet. Also, I took his temperature and cleaned up after him when he threw up everywhere. I have also just been making sure he doesn't need anything here and there. Oh, and I made him drink a little water earlier to make sure he stayed hydrated." James finished with a smile; everyone looked at him in surprise.

Mama Knight smiles, "Well, thank you for being responsible, James. I'm going to call the doctor and make an appointment for Kendall. We can always cancel it if he gets better. But for now, we need to continue to help him and wash our hands frequently and clean things off frequently. We don't need any of us getting sick too." Mama Knight finishes as everyone nods, and she goes off to make an appointment.

This left the group of kids hanging out in the central area of the crib. Logan, Carlos, and James started playing a video game on TV against one another. Katie was still on her laptop, and now she was looking into investing stock. Everything was expected; the night was still young, for it was only eleven pm by the time the guys settled down with their video game. Now, they were lounging and just watching tv. Things were quiet until the sound of shuffling feet caught their attention; everyone turned and saw Kendall wrapped in a blanket by the door frame. He coughs and makes his way to the kitchen when the others get up.

"Hey buddy, how are you feeling?" Logan questions, worry hitting him instantly; he had to admit James was right; Kendall looked awful.

"Fine…" Kendall mumbled; he almost made it to the fridge when James came up and grabbed him by the shoulders and stopped him, "Jamie, let go. I can do things on my own," Kendall states, slightly annoyed, as James held the boy close to him.

"No, no, we can help. You should be in bed, what did you want? We can get it for you." James finishes as he turns the boy back around, ignoring the blonde's protest as he gets put back into bed. Once he was under the covers again, James sighs. "This is for your own good; what did you need?" James questions with an eyebrow raise.

Kendall coughs lightly; he answers with a hoarse voice. "Water….I wanted some water." Kendall finishes simply with James nodding.

"All right, you stay here. I'll be right back!" James states as he goes and gets the water like his friend requested.

Entering the kitchen, he gets a cold bottle of water and goes back to the bedroom. Opening the bottle, he handed it to Kendall, who gladly gulped a could of drinks before setting half a bottle back down on the end table. The blonde soon laid his head back down, and his eyes were closed in a matter of minutes; he was softly snoring before James could even say anything.

The brown-haired boy frowned as he watched his friend, something felt off, but James couldn't point it out, so he let the boy sleep. He was going to stay by his side the whole night if he could.

At least, until Logan hadn't kicked him when the boy suggested he get some sleep and let him look over the boy. James had to oblige.

The night carried on, and soon the typically loud apartment was quiet. Everyone slept in their perspective beds, except Logan, who was in Kendall's shared room. Logan was sitting at his desk reading his medical books, studying to take his MCATS soon; after all, since Kendall was in his bed, he might as well get some study time done. He was about a half-hour into it when he heard Kendall stir and moan in his sleep. Looking over, Logan frowned as he saw the blonde boy lean over the bed and shove his head into the trash can, instantly throwing up. Logan stood up at this and went over to the blonde, and began to rub soothing circles on his back, trying to comfort the blonde as best as he could.

"Shhh… .it's okay, Kenny, let it all out." Logan encourages softly, feeling bad for his sick friend.

Soon, Kendall was down, throwing up; he laid back onto the bed with Logan's help and moaned a little. The blonde opened his eyes, making Logan frown at the feverish look they held. "Logie, I don't feel good," Kendall mutters, causing Logan's heartache; Kendall rarely called them by their nicknames, so hearing him call him Logie and James, Jamie, he knew this was bad.

"I know Kenny, and it's okay; sleep some more, all right. Can I recheck your temperature?" Logan questions as he grabs the thermometer off the end table while waiting for a response.

"S-Sure…" The blonde answers; he lets Logan put the thermometer under his tongue. He holds it there the best he can. Soon, after a few minutes, it beeps.
Logan takes it away to look at it, Kendall being a little worried, asks, "What's it say?" He coughs a little.

Logan frowns, "This is bad….It says 103.1, Kendall it went up from when James checked it." Logan finishes as he stares at his friend in worry.

The boy doesn't get a complete response from the blonde friend but a mumble and a soft snore. Seeing the blonde fall asleep, Logan rushes out of the bedroom and right down the hall to Mama Knight's room. Opening the door lightly, he peeks inside to see if the older woman was sleeping, and she was. He goes inside and starts shaking her shoulder lightly to wake her up feeling bad about it. But, in this case, Logan knew she would want to know about her son. Mama Knight groans and stirs slightly before opening her eyes to be met with a worried Logan.

"What's wrong, Logan?" Mama Knight asks as she sits up and rubs her sleepy eyes.

"It's Kendall, and his temperature went up. It's 103.2 Mama Knight, and this isn't good. I gave him more medicine, and he's sleeping now; what should we do?"
Logan questions worry evident in his voice.

Mama Knight sighs and throws the blanket off her before getting up. "Find my car keys, and we'll take Kendall to the hospital. I tried to make an appointment, and they couldn't get him in until the end of the week, but it seems as if we can't wait that long. Also, wake the others and let them know we are going if they want to come…." Mama Knight finishes as she ushers Logan out of her room so she can get dressed and he can do what she asked.

Once she was dressed, she rushed out to her son's room and entered it when she arrived. She frowned at the sight; Logan had been right, her baby boy didn't look any better, and he was whimpering in his sleep. Coming over, she shook him slightly just as Logan came in with her car keys and the others, all worried about what was going on.

"Mmmh…lemme sleep...sleep time…" Kendall mumbles in his sleep, the group of five frowning at the young teen.

"Kendall, baby, wake up, please; we need to go to the hospital." Mama Knight insisted, her heart slightly aching at the small protest of her son only wanting to sleep.

After a few attempts and slight whine battles (mainly from Kendall, who didn't want to go to the hospital), Mama Knight finally got Carlos, James, and Logan to help drag Kendall out of bed and into the car. They all piled in, the four guys in the back, Mama Knight driving, and Katie in the passenger. They drove as fast as the speed limit would let them and finally arrived at the nearest hospital. James, Carlos, and Logan helped Kendall out of the car while Mama Knight and Katie got a nurse to help get Kendall into a room. Finally, the group of five were waiting in the cold metal chairs of the hospital waiting room for news on Kendall. They all worried, but they knew only time would tell, and their tension only grew more when a doctor stepped out….
