Prologue
Kagome had little, if any, recollection of her life where her father was present. She knew, deep down, that it was probably best for her the less she knew. Her mother wasn't the type to keep secrets unless it was the worst type, so she always hesitated on asking anything about him or his side of her bloodline. Instead, she grew to see the man her mother married when she was five as her father. In her young mind, he was perfect.
Kind, generous, caring, gentle… everything a little girl could ever want in a father figure in her life. She knew the truth though. She knew it. Though he claimed her as his own, he had no blood connection to her. It didn't sway his love for her, however, and she only had fond memories of him.
He gave her everything she could want or need and he cherished her as if she was his own blood. She could remember, very fondly, dancing on his feet with large, feathery boas around their shoulders, faces done up in bright mismatched make-up. She could remember the tea parties he'd throw with her and her stuffed animals. She could remember painting his fingernails ten different colors at a time.
He cherished her, and he doted on her.
When she lost him, she lost the man she called dad. She lost the man she'd hold hands with when they went to the store. She lost the man who taught her how she was to be treated.
He might not have been her father, but he was her dad.
From hopping into the past and fighting demons, to resuming her school career, Kagome didn't give herself much of a break to adjust to the sudden swap of situations. Her mother expressed her concern, but Kagome merely brushed it off with a reassuring smile.
She'd gone through hell and come back with minimal injuries. School was nothing.
Considered unapproachable by the rest in her class due to her disinterested gaze and even cold responses, she spent the days in class on her own more often than not. She complied for things like group projects, but anytime she got put into one, something in her tone and words kept the people from trying to get to know her better despite her helpful, friendly even, words.
She never shooed anyone away, striking up a conversation with anyone who decided to test their luck, but one way or another, the topic would eventually die and they'd scuttle away to wherever they originated from that day. It didn't bother her, and she'd just go back to what she'd been doing prior to the interruptions without much thought or concern.
One day differed from the rest for her. A silver-haired figure stood by the school gates, dressed in an elegant suit and looking absolutely pristine. He was eye-catching, surely, many girls already fawning over him despite his lack of apparent interest, let alone acknowledgement towards them. When she freely walked up to him without a hint of hesitation, she felt the gazes boring into her turned back. She heard the hushed whispers that started up.
"You think they're dating?"
"Oh, no way! Look at them, I bet that's her brother or something! The vibes totally match up."
They died down when she glanced back into the mass of students hovering by the gate, too entranced by the two standing just outside them to leave. She sighed and shook her head, looking up to catch his golden gaze.
"They aren't gonna quit anytime soon," Kagome said, walking around him and nodding for him to follow. "Let's go, Sess."
"If that's what you want," he responded, agreeing with her idea easier than he usually would. She suspected it had to do with the infatuated gazes he was getting. She stifled a laugh, looking up at him as they walked away.
"Wow, you're always so popular everywhere we meet," she commented, blue eyes taking on a bright shine as she relaxed around the demon that was her ally and friend. "It's such a shame that you hate the majority of human beings."
He chuckled in response, the sound strange and unfamiliar coming from him. No matter how many times she heard it, it never sounded any more familiar than the last one. She wondered when it'd grow on her. "It's irritating beyond anything else," he commented dryly.
Kagome rolled her eyes. A few silent seconds ticked by, and she found herself thinking back to their prior conversation and what she'd asked of him. She glanced down, coming to a halt in the middle of the sidewalk. He noticed instantly and he stilled himself as he turned to look down at her. He saw the guarded light in her eyes, his expression shifting some into a slightly softer one- something reserved for her as his claimed sister.
"Ah…" she sighed, shaking her head and finally looking back up at him. "So, did you find anything out about him? About… them?" she asked.
The him and them in question being her biological father and his side of the family. She never would ask her mother these sorts of questions. She had no desire to talk about her ex-husband, and Kagome was more than understanding of her mother's decisions. She respected them, and she refused to bring him up in her company. Her mother knew that she had asked Sesshoumaru, and she was okay with it.
Kagome knew she wasn't the type to be able to get things around her mother. Her mother was a wise woman, in all fields. She knew what was on her mind by a mere glance.
"I did," Sesshoumaru responded, pulling her from her silent musings. She wasn't sure how to describe the feeling his words brought alive in her, but she didn't think it to be exactly positive. She felt nervous, but there was more to it.
"Well?" she asked when he fell silent. He reached into the insides of his suit jacket, pulling out a black folder and offering it to her. Kagome took it without an ounce of hesitation, flipping it open and reading the documents organized within it.
She knew that if anyone would be able to hunt down some information of her father's side for her, then it would be the demon that stood before her. She was grateful for his help, because otherwise she didn't even want to start to think about how she'd have to go about it just to learn even the most minute of details.
The information that her biological father was now deceased didn't faze her much, if any at all. She had no intent of meeting him personally, anyway. She knew her mother fled from their marriage for a reason, so she never even once began to consider reaching out to him on the off chance it led him back to her mother.
The information of an older brother got lodged in her head, a surprised expression twisting onto her face. He easily had ten years on her, if not more, but the information was still startling. Even in her earliest memories, of the few she had of the place she lived before her mother summoned her courage to leave, she couldn't recall an older sibling of any sort. Of course, she'd been young then, so she might just be unable to remember.
Her grip tightened on the sheet she held, the fragile paper crumpling and wrinkling under the pressure of her grip. She didn't want to doubt her memories, but she knew Sesshoumaru wouldn't offer her false information. Anything that lacked the ability of being one-hundred percent true would be tossed out.
He was keen to perfection, and he wouldn't let something so simple ruin his streak at it.
"Older brother, huh?" she muttered to herself, an unreadable light invading her bright blue eyes. Sesshoumaru hummed in response.
"Yes," he said. "Admittedly, I was taken aback by this news, but it seems to be true. I take it you have no memory of him?"
"None." Kagome fired back automatically, stuffing the papers back into the folder before shoving it without any care into her school bag. "Either way, it's not like I care."
She said those words, but the thump in her chest proved otherwise. She downcast her gaze back to her shoes.
Why did she wish to see him with her own eyes? Maybe if she did, then that might jar memories of him that could be lurking away deep in her subconscious.
Sesshoumaru reached to pull something else from his pocket, holding it out to the small girl a second later. Kagome blinked, befuddled at the strange pin he held out to her. The intricate design looked odd to her, a strangely designed S with an arrow piercing through it.
"Don't bother to question how I obtained these," he said, his tone giving way to the possibility of petty theft on his end, and she fought to keep her smirk at bay. She then noticed he wore a similar one on the cuff of his suit. He offered her a smile, something else that still seemed so odd to witness coming from him.
"I'm certain there's a way to obtain the interest of your brother without giving things away," he said then. Kagome figured he was talking about the pins, but she still didn't understand. Still, she knew she could rely on his assumptions.
She closed her eyes and fastened the pin to the ribbon bracelet she wore.
Aurora-chan: I've been wanting to do this story for so long. I really wish there were more crossovers for these two series.
Anyway, so there is quite a bit of information to share;
So, pairing is up for debate. Kagome is currently 16/17 or so. Kagome and Sesshoumaru will have a familial bond (he's accepted her as a packmate) so they won't be a pairing option.
Anyway, that's it for now! Thank you all for reading and I hope you all enjoyed. Hopefully I caught all the errors before posting, but if not apologies.
Please remember to Review&Favorite&Follow, thank you!
Bye for now~
