Boulevard of Broken Dreams by Green Day
It was a lively town. People crossed paths, greeted each other and shouts echoed through the alleys. Yes, the monsters were trapped here, forcibly locked up, but as the morning rose, as the day stretched on, the feeling of imprisonment disappeared behind the feeling that they were a family and would always help each other. This is indeed what happened when you appeared; they fled, taking their loved ones, their friends, their acquaintances, to an uncertain future.
I walk a lonely road
The only one that I have ever known
Don't know where it goes
But it's home to me and I walk alone
Now the city is still. A long silence crushes it as the wind blows away the dust. The death of the inhabitants who did not manage to escape seems to weigh on the survivors. It follows them, reminding them every moment of what happened, how their quiet lives as prisoners turned to icy despair, how innocent people perished helplessly and how the void came to drown them, all because of one person. Do you even care about this?
I walk this empty street
On the Boulevard of Broken Dreams
Where the city sleeps
And I'm the only one and I walk alone
You arrived with a smile on your face, an angelic and harmless child, a simple kid with the fate of all these people in their hands. Most of the monsters were afraid of you, some wanted to kill you because you would bring them freedom, others were delighted to meet you. But it made no difference to you, your goal was quite different.
I walk alone, I walk alone
I walk alone and I walk a…
My shadow's the only one that walks beside me
My shallow heart's the only thing that's beating
Sometimes I wish someone out there will find me
'Til then I walk alone
You had fun, didn't you? You seemed so happy as you watched the extent of your genocide. With each new encounter, your sharp knife in your hand, the little child that you are felt a little more love towards us. Your first victim was unable to defend herself, your second only wanted to do you good. Do you remember that? Perhaps your vision is blurred by all this dust after all. Then you killed my brother.
I'm walking down the line
That divides me somewhere in my mind
On the border line
Of the edge and where I walk alone
The screams of horror have long since replaced the joyful calls. Our fate was sealed the moment you fell here. Amazing isn't it, how quickly everything can change. It made you laugh. You laughed at the mercy my brother offered you, you thought his smile was ridiculous and you despised the trust he had placed in you, as you had done with all the monsters before. They were forced to hide from you and your scary shadow. Yet you stalked them, mere entertainment for the puppet that you are.
Read between the lines
Of what's fucked up and everything's alright
Check my vital signs
To know I'm still alive and I walk alone
Only the promise I had made to someone dear to me stopped me from appearing before you straight away. So I warned you and you grinned sarcastically. I gave you a chance, you crushed it along with my brother's life. I raised my eyes from what was left of his existence and through my whines I heard the silence. The silence that you had scattered all over your path. The silence broken by your laughter and mine.
I walk alone I walk alone
I walk alone I walk a…
My shadow's the only one that walks beside me
My shallow heart's the only thing that's beating
Sometimes I wish someone out there will find me
'Til then I walk alone
I walked along the road in the deserted city. Did you even spare anyone? There is no hope, there isn't any since you fell on those yellow flowers, so it doesn't matter, I have to defeat you. And as I cross the grass or the snow, I grit my teeth and look away from the ghosts. Not now, I tell them once again.
I walk alone I walk a…
I waited for you; you came to me. You had a confident and fluid walk and when you smiled at me, I did not see any remorse in your eyes. You are not empty at this moment, nor are you mad, Frisk. No, you are joyful. While behind you, the dead pile up, I am here to judge you, under their gaze, but you probably don't see them. Your knife in front of you, a smile twisting your lips, you are ready to continue your genocide. You can be happy, you're gonna burn in hell.
I walk this empty street
On the Boulevard of Broken Dreams
Where the city sleeps
And I'm the only one and I walk a…
Do you remember, Frisk, what our town looked like when you arrived? Do you remember the children running, the birds singing and the flowers blooming? Do you remember the first monster you killed, all the others that followed, the fear you spread, the dust you left behind? Do you remember the dreams of freedom, the sun they hoped to see one day, all of them, that they imagined, the infinite world they awaited? No, you only see my blood staining your blade.
My shadow's the only one that walks beside me
My shallow heart's the only thing that's beating
Sometimes I wish someone out there will find me
'Til then I walk alone
One wound and it's all over. The pain bends me in two and you laugh. The sticky liquid runs out of my body along with my life. I smile and wave at you. I'm gonna get to those who have already lost, get to my brother who is waiting for me. I leave you as my last memory, Frisk, this boulevard of broken dreams.
