Chapter 0: Blake

Blake's eyes went wide as Ben's severed head hit the ground. Blood splattered everywhere. On the floor. On the walls. And in the diviner's face.

Everything seemed to move in slow motion around him. His friend was dead. His best friend since childhood had just been mercilessly slaughtered right in front of him and he couldn't do a damn thing about it. The last person that knew him fully was gone.

Einsbern let out a shrill laugh. "Well that certainly was satisfying."

Images flashed through Blake's mind as his mind spun into a panicked overdrive. Images of Lancer with a sword through his chest. Images of Ben repeatedly losing his head, but worst of all, images of Rin giving her last breath as a gift; the feel of her lips still tingling on his own.

It was all too much. His heart couldn't take it. He had just lost everything. His partner, the girl he had grown feelings for, and now even his best friend. They were all dead.

Blake fell to his hands and knees, feeling his stomach twist and his face drain of blood.

He had failed them all. The weight of everything slammed down on him like a crashing wave. Denial, grief, loss, sorrow, all of those emotions swept through him relentlessly. He felt like he would explode.

"What's wrong, pet?" Einsbern mocked. "You look like you're going to throw up." The white-haired woman gave another laugh. "How pathetic. You obviously were too attached. So I did what you couldn't…" she paused in thought for a moment, then resumed. "Or maybe I simply sped up the process. You would have gotten them killed anyways, so I did the world a favor and saved time."

She was right. He would have gotten them killed anyways. Einsbern was simply the first of the Mage's Association to come after him. Even if they had survived this, they may not have survived what came next. They were dead because of him. Because he was too weak.

Create a world where the people he loved could smile freely? What a joke. Only the strong could make claims like that. And he wasn't strong. He was the weakest person that he had ever known.

Blake cursed that weakness. He cursed the world. He cursed Einsbern. He didn't care anymore. He just wanted it all to burn. He would reject his weakness! He would reject this fucked yo world. And most of all, he would kill that homunculus bitch that took everything from him.

Blake shook. The emptiness he had felt only moments before vanished. Emotion swirled around within him. His anger flared and his sorrow dampened, but there was one emotion that took control the most. It was the one emotion that he thought he could never truly feel for someone. One that pushed back against the grain of his entire being and smoothed over his narrowed psyche.

It was hatred.

Blake hated the homunculus. He hated her with all his being. He wanted to end her. He wanted to kill her by any means necessary.

No.

He would kill her.

He would destroy her.

He rose to his feet.

"And you know the best part?" Einsbern prattled on; oblivious to his growing wrath. "I didn't have to sully my hands in that disgusting Tohsaka blood. You did that all for me."

She smiled.

Blake snapped.

All at once, all available mana activated within Blake's magic circuits. Hatred exploded forward and brought out new power. With every magic circuit forced open, more hatred flowed through the diviner. With more hatred, more mana flowed. And with more mana flowing, more magic circuits were forced open. This created a cycle of incredible power. Power Blake had never felt before.

White mana wings erupted from his back, glowing with incredible brilliance. White mana arched all over his body, tracing the magic circuits they exuded from.

This power felt different from his regular magecraft. It felt older, and more ancient. It felt as if the mana in his pinky was more powerful than the mana in his entire body had ever been.

Yes.

He would destroy her.

He would destroy every aspect of her existence.

There would be nothing left.

A card materialized in his hand and he knew what he had to do.

"Oh thou who shalt sin in thy presence, burn in eternal wrath!" Blake began to chant.

Einsbern laughed in denial. "The balance in your mana has been destroyed! You can't use mage craft anymore! Cut these cheap tricks. You're not fooling anyone."

"Drown in thy sea of despair," the diviner continued. The lights in the mansion began to dim and he began to glow brighter. The mana arching from his circuits began to tear up the grown and create rubble.

The homunculus's face went pale as she realized that the light in the room was fading.

No.

Not just the room.

But the entire world.

"And fade away in unrelenting light!" Blake finished, and the room went dark, as if all of the light in the world had been sucked into the card. The only thing that remained alight was him.

"You can't…" Einsbern's voice trembled. "You're mana was disabled! I felt it! What is this?!" Her voice paused and then resumed with a new level of fear as realization seemed to strike through her. "No...it can't be...true mag-"

"Higher Arcana! Judgement!" Blake called forth.

Light immediately shot forward from his entire body and engulfed Einsbern before she could finish another word. As it consumed her, only screams remained as they echoed through the darkened room.

As the light of Judgement passed, Blake's vision began to fade. Einsbern was nowhere to be seen, But her death brought him no joy, no satisfaction, nor any feeling of the sort. Now all he felt was emptiness. Nothing but a hollowness that felt as if it would consume him. He was alone.

Truly, and utterly alone.

At that realization, the diviner lost consciousness and faded into the nothingness.

5 years later

Footsteps echoed through the alleyway as a mage ran in utter desperation. Rain poured from above and water splashed as his feet stomped in puddles. The night would have been a freezing one, fear in the mage's chest kept him warm and moving. He needed to run. He needed to escape.

Deadly intent followed closely behind him and his fear and panic grew. He needed to get away. He didn't want to die. He should have never taken that job from the association. He wouldn't be in this situation if he hadn't.

Suddenly, the mage found himself on the ground with a piercing pain in his right leg. He looked down to discover a full grey sword of mana penetrating all the way through.

He crawled.

He had to escape.

He didn't want to die.

He spun around to see his pursuer and found himself looking up at a dark shadowy figure.

"Wait!" The mage cried out. "Don't kill me! I'm sorry! I have a family! A wife! Please stop! I won't chase you anymore! I swear!"

Cold brown eyes stared back at the man's fearful ones. Eyes that had seen more death than anyone could imagine. So much death, that death itself had lost meaning. There was no meaning. Not to death. Not to life. Not to anything.

Those brown eyes that once were kind, held no sympathy, no empathy, and no compassion.

"Suit Series: Ace of Swords," the brown eyed man commanded.

A dull gray sword appeared in his hand. He pulled it back to swing.

"Please!" The cowering magus cried out. "I'm begging you! My family needs me! Don't you have anyone you love? Someone who cares about you?"

The blade paused.

Had the man convinced his assailant to spare him? Had he just gotten out of certain death? Was he really going to live?

The eyes of the man went colder, and the magus' heart sank.

"No." The brown eyed man said simply.

Blake Ryan slashed down mercilessly at the mage; killing him instantly.

"I have no one." He said to the maimed body.

With that, he turned and walked off into the silent night.

A/N: So I came up with this concept a while ago, but I really wanted to get this one going. Granted, right now, most of my focus will be going towards Re:REALM, but I will update this occasionally as well. If you have not read Re:WORLD yet, I strongly recommend that you do so as this story will spoil it. But I hope you guys enjoy this alternate timeline. Thanks for reading!
