The news of what had happened to Seiren was all over the school before Seiren was released from the nurse's office. Rumors had already circulated after a roommate of one of the expelled boys had told someone of what he had witnessed. The gossip had already been confirmed by witnesses who had seen Zero as he stalked the school grounds. Not a single girl had shown up to crossover and Yuuki was the only one who seemed to be going about her daily routine.
Sometimes the hunter thought he felt something at the sight of the monster wearing his old friend's face being brushed off by the male pureblood but it had become a feeling that had turned from sharp and piercing to a blunt ache.
Over the next few days, the day class gave a respectful distance from the night to class although if it was after witnessing the look Kaname had been wearing as he worked through his protective fury.
Zero had limited his patrols to closer to the day class dorms since the pureblood had taken to roaming the entire lands of Cross academy. The hunter had already caught Kaname brush of Yuuki several times as she tried to catch his attention.
He had found little need to address the day class girls. The few that were still interested in sneaking out at night to sneak a peek of the Night Class were threatened into submission not from the Prefect himself, but from other Day Class girls and boys who were thoroughly shaming their friends for trying to act out when there was such a serious issue across the school.
The hunter had caught one girl scolding another with those exact words only to immediately clam up once she saw him. He dropped a hand in her hair, gave a short 'good job' only to receive a shocked look in response, shot a glare towards the other girl, and continued his walk around the Sun Dorms.
Kuran's mood seemed to become darker with each letter he received from the council as his attention was forced to split between his instincts and political mechanisms. In the meantime, Takuma remained by Kaname's side as they filtered through the pureblood's workload. The rest of the vampires seemed to avoid the Night class dorms entirely.
This only seemed to worsen the pureblood leader's mood. On some level, Zero had known that vampires experienced territorial emotions that humans and hunters simply were not capable of. The hunter was reluctant to acknowledge any of his vampire instincts but it was horrifying to ponder the possessiveness Kuran felt as a pureblood when compared to the dominating need to have certain people in his sight Zero felt as a Level D was frightening to imagine.
The lack of the Night Class in the moon dorms was driving the pureblood's instincts over the edge. It was enough that he had lost his impeccable manners and started to snap at Yuuki. Zero had even had to bark at Kuran to get himself under control when his eyes had bled red after an incident where a Day Class boy had wandered too close to Seiren where a night class ran into the early morning and the day class boy came early in order to finish homework from the day before.
Even Zero could not fault the over-protectiveness the other was feeling. Although apparently, his confrontation with the pureblood was heart-dropping for all parties involved although for the vampires especially.
Later in his room, "The fact that he refrained from mauling you is surprising," Ruka stated factually, cleaning her nails as she lounged on Zero's bed as if it were her own.
"Yeah," Kain nodded, "You got between Seiren, someone Kaname-sama wanted to protect. By all means, he should have tried to snap your neck," The coral-colored vampire deadpanned.
The general consensus was that Zero should have died in that hallway.
Somehow the hunter was not as disturbing or off-putting as it should be. Although he would admit that it did not completely fit the image of Kuran in his head. The Night Class did not discuss the pureblood often. It was a silent agreement not to as all of the vampires knew of the resentment between the two.
Zero appreciated it.
Feelings were complicated and the silver-haired guardian's history with the other brought a lot of bad blood between them. As far as the prefect was concerned Kaname Kuran was the one that had been one of the causes of Yuuki Cross's death. Although on some level he blamed Yuuki Kuran more than her brother.
'I wonder if the real reason she was sealed was because of her personality,' Zero had thought, one day as his mind had wandered.
Next to him, Aido flubbed an English word and the hunter was gently correcting his pronunciation as his train of thoughts abruptly changed towards the needy vampires that were sprawled around his room.
Yet, here they were. A collection of people that Zero had genuinely hated until less than a month ago.
What the fuck had his life become? Even as he questioned that with the amount of vampires Zero's collected in his room he knew it was only a matter of time before this moment arrived.
He had stood up after hearing three sharp rocks against the door.
Without hesitation, he turned his doorknob and swung it open coming face to face with Kaname Kuran.
