Finn Mertens reached down to pick up the rock that lay before him, it's smooth surface against his rough hands felt good to the now 34-year-old man. It reminded him of Jake, truth be told. He walked away from where the rock used to lie, now giving it a new home on the surface of a well taken care of patch of ground. In front of this ground rested a tombstone with the words "Jake the Dog, brother, father, and most importantly the eater of sandwiches" inscribed upon its stone surface. That last part was an addition Jake wanted in the will he left behind. Finn still cracked a smile at seeing it, even now, it being the 6th year he's been gone. His smile soon disappeared as he looked away from the tombstone, going to get another rock to place on the grave of his brother.
From afar Bronwyn looked at her great uncle work, she wanted to go and help the older man but she knew he wanted to do it on his own. She didn't know Jake all too well, him not being there very much, but she still felt the sorrow everyone else felt when hearing the news of his passing. No others knew how Finn felt though, no others cried as much as he did, no others were there with Jake as he was, but of course, Finn didn't hold it against anyone, he knew Jake the most so, of course, he would care the most. There were others that cared too, almost just as much as he did, Jakes wife Lady Rainicorn was there just as he was, she spoke at the funeral, Finn didn't, he was scared of everyone seeing him, he was scared of being ridiculed for showing such emotions as sadness and heartache. Finn the Human? Crying? Our great hero mourning the loss of a loved one? Preposterous. No one actually thought this was, it was all in the man's mind as he hid away in his RV.
Finn was now starting to get tired, this wasn't strange for him, he had started getting tired a lot quicker than he used to as a kid, he knew he was aging, and it scared him, almost as much as the death of Jake scared him. Trying to pick up a bigger rock, he did so but soon collapsed into it as his arms gave in. Frustrated he raised both of his fists, bringing them down onto the rock, his eyes watering, turning red as tears poured out of them. "Uhm, Queen, Princess Bubblegum?" Bronwyn said, standing up from where she sat. The RV door suddenly opened to reveal Marceline Abadeer and Bonnibel Bubblegum, both stepping out of it.
"Remember what I told you, kid? No Miss that or whatever, just call me Marcy." Queen said to the Dog/Alien/Rainicorn/Bear hybrid.
"I'm sorry but-" Bronwyn tried saying, but was interjected by the pink royal that stood next to the floating demon and human hybrid.
"Also, I'm not a princess anymore, so will do! Haha, just kidding, call me Bonnie." She jokingly added.
"Well, um, alright, anyway-" But once again, was interrupted by someone else exiting the RV.
"And you can just call me Professor Petrikov! Yes, yes, that sounds good." Simon said as he walked out of the RV, a journal in hand, a pen in another.
"And I'm BMO!" A tiny green robot yelled out as they jumped off the RV steps and onto the ground. "Yay BMO!"
Everyone beside Bronwyn laughed at the computer's antics. She was beginning to get a little frustrated but was soon saved by Bonnie. "So Bronwyn, what is it you needed?" She asked curiously, Bubblegum wasn't the sort of person to let it slide from her mind. "It's Finn, he's um, he's not doing so good."
The group looked to see said human crouched down, tears flowing from his eyes as his teeth gritted angrily at a small boulder that lay at his knees. All, of them, including BMO, ran to the man. "Finn! Finn are you alright?" Bonnie asked frantically as she flanked his right, putting a hand on his shoulder. "Yeah man, what's up? You get hurt or somethin?" Marceline questioned nervously, going to his left, she knew this wasn't the reason why he was crying, because if they knew anything about Finn, it's that he could take a beating.
"I don't know what to do anymore." He said in between shallow breaths. "I've lost Jake and now I'm growing weaker each year, I can hardly lift this Globing boulder!" He once again punched the rock. Simon looked on in worry. He knew exactly how he felt when confronted with the reality he would never see his Betty anymore. So doing what he did best, he crouched in front of the man.
"Now, I may not know what it means to get older, being a sort of immortal, but I do know all about loss. When Betty was ripped away from me when she made that wish, I was crushed, I was angry at her for leaving, angry at myself for feeling that way, and then I felt like nothing for a while, I was on autopilot. But the thing is, I had help getting out of that! You were a part of that help Finn! So I think it's my turn to help you." Placing his hand on his fellow human's shoulder he smiled at him. Finn wiped away the tears from his eyes. Standing up he gave a deep breath.
"Sorry about that guys, I don't even know why I was bringing this over to Jake." He grinned a bit at his stupidity.
"Yeah, that is a little weird, but it'll be alright weeny, if you need anything don't be afraid to call or visit." The Vampire Queen said, trying to help the human. "Yes." Bonnibel agreed. "If you need anything at all just come to us." She said while nodding quickly to emphasize her point.
"These dudes are right Grunkle Finn, need anything and we'll help, you've helped me a lot these past years so it's the least I could." She smiled at her great uncle and mentor, and he smiled back as he put a hand on her shoulder, giving it an affectionate squeeze. "Thank you, all of you."
"Don't forget about BMO!" They said as they jumped onto the small boulder, giving a small dance, they all laughed at its antics as Finn picked them up, walking to the RV with the rest of the group behind them.
