Sorry if it took awhile for me to post. I wasn't sure where I would go with the story. But now I have an idea for it, I'll continue updating. I'm also currently working on another shadamy fanfic, but I won't be posting it yet, I wanted to finish everything before I decided to publish. I hope you guys enjoy this chapter.
After receiving a call from Sonic, Amy went right away to the cafeteria using her map as a guide. It was a 10 minute walk, which Amy didn't mind. English class wasn't hard for the lavender hedgehog, as the matter of fact, she was participative. Before she could reach the cafeteria, she saw Sonic along the way. The blue blur saluted with his signature smirk. Amy couldn't help but giggle.
"How was your class?" He asked as they walked together.
"I flunked Math but did well on English. How 'bout you?"
"I practically ace my tests as always. They should really step up their game. I need a challenge" Amy playfully rolled her eyes at his comment.
As soon as they opened the door to the cafeteria. The area was bustling with students. People are in line to get lunch. Amy did the same as she checked the prices which made her frown.
"80$ for a sandwich? Oh my Mobius!" She blurted her words out loud.
"This is why I packed us some lunch" said the blue blur as he took out three paper bags.
Sonic found an empty table and signaled Amy to follow him. They both sat as they looked around for the ebony hedgehog. While Sonic was busy locating Shadow, Amy on the other hand was fascinated at the structure of the cafeteria. It was like it came out from olympus. It was heavily greek themed. There were statues at every corner of the area, their floors and tables are made out of marble. Even the lunch lady is wearing a toga as her uniform and a pair of leafy clips.
After wasting 10 minutes of waiting for him, the blue hedgehog decides to call him. Amy on the other hand was too focused on finishing his sandwich. After a few rings, Shadow finally answered.
"Where are you?! Lunch is about to be over." Yelled the blue hedgehog.
"Faker…" he cleared his throat. "There was trouble. I'm on my way now." Replied Shadow. Before Sonic could ask what he meant by 'trouble', he ended the call.
"Ugh! Is he always like this?" Sonic asked as he looked at Amy. She shrugged at his question and continued to bite her sandwich.
15 minutes earlier.
"What the fuck?" Was the first few words that came out of the white hedgehog.
"Ah shit" Shadow murmured.
There was a moment of silence with the three hedgehogs. Amy and Silver stared at him weirdly. What kind of moron would jump up that high and survive? Even if Shadow did jump off the 2nd floor, he would still be left with a broken leg, is what Silver thought. Shadow may have lost his ability to use Chaos Control, he is still the Ultimate Lifeform. Before any of them could speak, Shadow slowly walked away, going past the two hedgehogs. Suddenly, the ebony hedgehog felt a tug on his arm.
"Hey loser. Where the fuck do you think you're going?" Silver hissed. Shadow glanced at the angry hedgehog. He doesn't have time for this, he was planning to avoid them the whole day. What's more annoying, is that these two saw him jump off the building. His alternate self won't be happy about this.
"Leaving." He replied in a monotone voice.
"Who says you're leaving after that stunt you pulled." A small smirk formed on Silver's face. He tightened his grip on Shadow's arm, which made the ebony hedgehog pissed. Silver raised his hand forming it into a fist, preparing to strike. But before his fists could ever land. Shadow breaks free of Silver's grasp as he instantly face plant the white hedgehog making him faint in the process. Amy gasped at the scene.
"Silver!" Amy cried as she approached the fainted hedgehog. Shadow never took pleasure in hurting someone, especially someone he knew of. But he did what he had to. 'It was either him or me. This is not the Silver I know. ' Shadow coldly thinked.
"What did you do?! You asshole!" She hissed at the ebony hedgehog. Ignoring her cries he slowly walked away while he clenched his fist. He glanced back at the two hedgehogs, seeing that Amy was trying to wake the white hedgehog up. As he walked away in the distance the pink hedgehog screamed at Shadow.
"Don't think you can get away with this, Shadow Robotnik!"
Shadow left and felt a small vibration on his pocket. He annoyingly sighed and answered.
"I am stuffed! That was a tasty sandwich you made. The Sonic from our universe only knows how to cook chili dogs." As she rubs her stomach, satisfied.
"Well, as the eldest son I have to. But chili dogs? Eugh, they're my least favorite food." said Sonic as he gagged at the thought of ever eating one.
"No way!" Said Amy as she giggled. The two enjoyed their talk. Curious, the rosy hedgehog asked the blue blur what his hobbies are. Not only is he a champion in track and field, he also won first place at a culinary tournament in Rosenberg Academy. Nevertheless, his grades are commendable to the point he's on par with Shads. Amy wonders if he could be on the same level as Tails. As the two enjoyed their chat, a certain pissed ebony hedgehog interrupted, slamming his fist on the marble table, leaving a small crack. Amy and Sonic flinched at his sudden anger. The blue hero tried to cover the cracks on the table with the food tray
"I hope nobody saw that." Sonic said.
"What the heck Shadow?!" Amy frowned at the angry hedgehog. Realizing what Shadow had done, he pinched the bridge of his nose and sat beside Amy.
"When I was on my way here, I bumped into Silver and Amy."
"What? For real? So.. what happened?" Concerned, Sonic asked.
"He was about to strike at me but I retaliated, pinning him down and causing him to faint." There was a short pause. Sonic snorted.
"You actually put "THE Silver the hedgehog" out of cold? You're more gutsy than I thought." Sonic amusingly said. Amy only glared at Sonic. "Alright I'll stop." He added.
"But why are you pissed? Did something else happen?" Asked the pink hedgehog. Shadow groaned and rolled his eyes. He didn't want to say that he felt bad that he hurted the people he knew and seeing the Alternate Amy looked at him in disgust as if he was a monster, a menace to the world. It reminded him of what he was before and everything he's done.
"It's nothing. I just want this college crap to end" Shadow said as he smoothly lied.
"Now where's the fun in that?" Said Sonic as he tossed a paper bag to Shadow. The ebony hedgehog checked the contents and it was a sandwich.
"Eat up, lunch is about to be over." He added.
Shadow rolled his eyes as he devoured the sandwich.
As soon as lunch was over, Sonic left first saying that his classes started early leaving the two hedgehogs behind. Both of them didn't mind, especially Shadow. He could not take the blue hero seriously now that he's been degraded into 'that'. A nerdy, pathetic, wimpy loser. Amy and Shadow went to the same class throughout the day. It was great that they didn't encounter Alternate Amy and Silver. They both didn't like to cause trouble and wanted the day to peacefully end. Then again, while Shadow was doing great in his classes as he was supposed to do, Amy on the other hand has been struggling to get a passing grade from the quizzes. Most of the time Shadow would make fun of her, calling her names and flinging her a tiny crumpled paper in her direction that would make her agitated.
Finally, the last class has ended. All of the students went in their separate ways, leaving two hedgehogs in the empty room. Shadow was still on his seat, staring at the window, deep in his thoughts. Amy checked her watch. It was 5:30 in the afternoon. She stood up making her way to Shadow's seat. She leaned in front of him, catching his attention.
"Well, we have thirty minutes to kill before Sonic's classes end. Do you have anything you want to do?" Shadow raised his eyebrow, face still looking at the window. Crimson eyes meet jade eyes.
"Nothing that this world can offer." He nonchalantly replied.
"Well, we can ask each other a question. That way we can get to know each other a little more. It's like truth or drink, but without the drink though." She suggested. His eyes never left hers. Shadow didn't like to talk about 'himself' much, as he observes the pink hedgehog for any motive. He sighs in defeat. 'It's not like I have anything better to do'
"Fine." Shadow said. Her eyes glimmer, happy that he agreed to her game.
"Don't worry I won't tell anyone!" She grabbed the nearest chair and sat. "You go first! Ask away"
"Why did you join the Faker's team if you, yourself know that you're a liability?" He coldly asked. Amy's eyes widened in surprise, she didn't expect that Shadow would ask her about this. Amy let out a smile, but there was sadness in it.
"You think I'm a liability?" She softly says. Shadow, of course, did not answer, his eyes still focused on the pink hedgehog. "I always wanted to help people just like Sonic does. I may not be good at defeating villains like him, or have super speed, strength or even the brains for it." She said as she remembered her two friends.
"But I am capable of doing something more. I helped Cream and Big find their purpose. I never lose hope, even when all seems lost." She softly looked at Shadow.
"And I.. was the one who changed your mind at the ARK when no one can." There was a soft shimmer in Shadow's eyes. He was thankful for the pink hedgehog. Because of her, he remembered his promise to his friend and Amy. The ebony hedgehog did not respond, instead he blinked and looked away. Now he felt guilty for even asking her such a cold question.
"Alright! My turn." She was back to her cheery self. "So.. are you interested in someone? If yes, who? And if not, why? No lies okay?" Shadow's eyelids dropped. He could not fathom a stupid question. Out of all the questions she could think of, it has to be about relationships.
"Really?" He said. Amy excitedly nodded in response. Shadow groans. He could lie and say no but lying was one of the things he disliked.
"Yes, I am... interested in someone. But I can't tell you who." He looked at the window, he had a solemn look. Amy's eyes widened, she did not expect Mr. Gloom and Doom to have any interest in someone, let alone romance.
"You can describe her or him if you don't feel like mentioning their name." She reassured the ebony hedgehog. Shadow hesitated, but did promise to be honest. He always made sure to keep his promises, whether he likes it or not.
"She.. was a very peculiar character. Her will is strong, not easily swayed by others. She strongly stands on her beliefs, and always believed that everyone deserves a second chance. From time to time she gets a bit impulsive, but that's part of her charm." A small smile etched on Shadow's face. He continued.
"She's the reason why I'm still around and alive. She made me realize that I'm not just a weapon." His eyes soften as he looks at the pink hedgehog. He continued.
"And I'm thankful for her. But she-" as he was about to continue, Amy cut him off.
"She died right? You're talking about Maria?" She said as she gently squeezed his hand for comfort. "I'm so sorry about Maria.." an apologetic look was on the pink hedgehog's face.
"..." Shadow had a dumb founded look, he wasn't talking about Maria. Heck, he never saw her in a romantic way. It was more of a family love, a sibling love. Shadow was about to say she was in love with someone else but what Amy did ruined the moment and he shrugged at it. 'I'll just go with this excuse then.'
"Yeah." He replied coldly. There was a moment between the two. But then the door suddenly swung open. Shadow instantly pulled his hand away from the pink hedgehog.
"Sorry for the wait." Said the cerulean hedgehog as he pushed his glasses. Feeling the 'weird atmosphere' in the room, he looked at the two hedgehogs. "What did I miss?" Sonic innocently asked. Amy cleared her throat.
"Well nothing much and we didn't wait too long." she said. Sonic only smiled and did a thumbs up. The three hedgehogs walked their way home. Amy enjoyed talking to Sonic, though they're different from the blue hero that she knew, both still have their similarities. Amy missed her blue hero. As the two continued to chatter, Shadow was beside her, thinking of a way to get out of this universe fast but his thoughts betrayed him. He was thinking about the moment they shared earlier, there was a deep connection when his crimson eyes met her jade eyes. He just couldn't put his finger in it.
After the 15 minutes walk they reached home.
Amy immediately excused herself and went to her room to change. Sonic was laying on the couch watching his awaited show, it was a melodrama series. While Shadow sat beside him, removing his uniform, he left himself topless. He pretended to gag at Sonic's choice of genre but the blue blur didn't mind and continued to watch the show. After getting changed, the pink hedgehog went back. She was wearing a pink crop top with cute pink puffy shorts and a pair of slippers. She looks adorable in her outfit.
"Looking good Ames!" Sonic said, elbowing the ebony hedgehog. Shadow did find her cute but only rolled his eyes, pretending to not care. Ignoring Sonic's teases. A few minutes later they all ate dinner. Shads came out looking like he hadn't rested, asked the ebony hedgehog how his day went. Of course Shadow being honest, told him about his interaction between Silver and Amy which made Shads frown a bit but was too tired to even get mad.
After eating, Amy offered to wash the dishes, it was the least thing she could do for the two brothers. At first Sonic insisted he would do it but gave up when he saw her determined look. Shads excused himself and went off to continue building the machine, while Sonic had to do his homework. Shadow was now alone with Amy. He focused his attention on the TV, pretending to be interested. In his peripheral vision, he could see the pink hedgehog placing the plates on the dry rack, wiping her hands on a towel.
Contented with her work, she made her way to Shadow and sat beside him. The loveseat was small but it was enough for three people to fit in, Shadow could feel her arm graze unto his.
"What are we watching?" She asked, her eyes were on the tv.
"Random junk to kill time"
"Hm.. I didn't know you like this kind of show." It was a show about a Romance consultant, where they ask advice about their lovelife.
"I don't. But it's better than nothing" Shadow replied.
A few hours of watching random films on the tv, Shadow yawned, it was already 11:23 PM. He felt something heavy on his shoulder. Amy fell asleep, as she leaned on him. He could hear her snoring lightly. His features softened and a small smile was on his face. Shadow slowly moved his hand, making sure she didn't wake up and gently picked her up. At the corner of the room, Sonic cleared his throat. It wasn't loud enough to wake the pink hedgehog, but it was enough to catch Shadow's attention. The ebony hedgehog frowned.
"Whoah, no need to get all angry. So much aggression will get you old." Sonic raised both of his hands on his chest.
"I'm immortal you imbecile. What do you want?" He whispered. A hint of annoyance in his tone. The blue hero glances at the sleeping hedgehog and drags his eyes to Shadow. Crimson eyes meet Emerald.
"Immortal? That's new. I would love to talk to you about that. But… you seem pretty busy right now." Sonic playfully said, raising one of his eyebrows. He heard the ebony hedgehog groan.
"Whatever. What I do is none of your business."
"Of course, of course. I mean technically, I don't know much about you. But you both are too obvious when it comes to the people you love" Sonic said.
"What are you trying to insinuate?" Shadow glared.
"Oh nothing, forget about it." The blue blur said, placing his hand on his shoulder. "You should tuck her in before she wakes up."
Shadow didn't say anything back and proceeded to carry the sleeping hedgehog into her room. He opened the door and placed her gently under the sheets, making sure she was comfortable. The ebony looked at Amy once more, and mouthed.
"Good night, Rose."
"Why isn't this working?! I'm sure I didn't fuck up the formula." Shads said as he scanned the papers. In front of him was a prototype machine that would gather the needed energy for the Chaos Emerald. He fixes his glasses.
"What am I missing?" He was frustrated and tired. Having to work the machine the whole day without a rest was draining. Not only that, Shadow has caused him unwanted attention between Amy and Silver. The stress was getting him. He pinches the bridge of his nose, trying to calm himself.
'Clear mind Shadow, Clear mind' he thought to reassure himself.
The dark hedgehog deserves a rest. His room was a mess, machine parts were everywhere, and a few oil spills stained the floor. The once organized room was in chaos. "Yeah, I deserve a break," he decided.
12:20 AM
Who would have thought he would meet his Alternate self in the living room. There he was, Shadow sitting in the loveseat, his eyes were on the tv. But Shads knew he wasn't paying attention to the tv, instead he was in a deep thought. Shadow was more confident, stern, rude but gentle, opposite of what he was. He envied Shadow, he was everything he couldn't be. Little did Shads know that he's been staring at his double.
"Take a picture it would last long" Shads flinched.
"Ah.. I don't mean to stare." Shads shyly scratched his head. "Why aren't you asleep? You'll still have to attend classes for me. I don't want you sleeping in the middle of the lecture."
"I mostly don't sleep. Sleeping is more of a luxury." Shadow replied. Shads face scrunched up.
"What's that supposed to mean?" He asked but Shadow didn't respond. Not waiting for a reply, Shads makes his way to the kitchen, pouring himself some coffee. Taking a few sips and went back to the ebony hedgehog and he sat beside him.
"Well, since I'm on a break. Tell me about yourself. It would be nice to get you."
"Why do you care? You're me." He digressed. Shads stared at his mug, refusing to look at his double's eyes. He stirred his coffee and took a sip.
"Yes, I am you but, we both are from a different universe. Imagine the infinite possibility of ourselves." His eyes now at Shadow. "All I know about you is that you're a grumpy version of me and a self proclaimed 'Ultimate Lifeform' " Shads almost cracked saying this.
"I am the Ultimate Lifeform!" He angrily said. Shads immediately apologized, scared that he might have pissed off his double. Deep inside, Shadow couldn't accept his version in this world. He was pathetic and weak, the very opposite of his every being. Something he couldn't imagine, so ordinary. Even so, Shadow was curious about how ordinary Shads' life was. To break the awkwardness Shadow spoke.
"Listen well. I'll only say it once so pay attention." Shadow could see Shad's face brighten. He rolled his eyes. This is gonna be a long night..
