"Darling, do you know where my shoes are?" A rather tired looking Jim Dear came into the kitchen to ask his wife.
"Which ones?" She asked back.
Yawning, he replied, "The brown pair."
"You have nothing, but brown pairs."
"The brown pair made by Mr. Herring." He said hopefully.
"Dear, you get all your shoes from Mr. Herring." Darling responded, unimpressed.
He let out another big yawn before saying, "Right...right. I need to change my wardrobe up a little bit."
Darling laughed, "Definintely."
Jim grew rather serious then, "I'm going to miss the old man... I'm going to miss this whole town."
She grew solemn alongside him, "This place was wonderful, wasn't it?"
He nodded, "We fell in love here, got this house..."
"Your musical career started here, we ended up with seven dogs." She continued for him.
He chuckled, "Can't forget that last part. Danielle and Collette seem to be in good hands."
She went on, "We made friends and memories... I almost can't believe we're leaving." She decided then to brighten the mood, "This new place of ours will be doing wonders for your musical career, won't it? And I heard Mr. Herring adopted some dogs, a Pekingese and English Bulldog, they'll keep him company."
Jim only nodded in response.
"Don't be sad about it, life goes on." She said with a smile, before feeling a small tugging on her dress.
She looked down to see Tramp pawing at her dress.
"Oh! Sorry boy, forgot all about your dog food." She quickly filled his bowl up and then went to help with Jim Dear's shoe situation.
After Tramp had completely emptied his bowl, he went off to the lounge, where all the other dogs resided. In all of them, he could detect a feeling of sadness and uncertainty.
Prepared as she tried to be for the day, Tramp could tell that Lady was on the verge of an emotional breakdown. He felt a little guilty then. When it was first announced that they were moving and would be separated from Scamp, Annette and their two mates, she grew depressed. Rather than being there for her, he got caught up in his own midlife crisis and pretended as if there wasn't an issue in the world. They made ammends, but he still couldn't help, but feel guilty.
At that moment she was nuzzling her last daughter, not counting Angel. He still found it amazing that his three daughters had found a way to break apart from one another, especially considering how close they use to be. Danielle chose to leave with that strange human boy, Thomas. While Collette had found a peaceful farm and a loving mate. Annette would also be fine away from family, she was always the most independent amongst her sisters and with Killian on her side, he had no worries.
"Kind of crazy that we're leaving, Pop?" He was suddenly brought out of his thoughts by Scamp.
He smiled at his son, "Sure is Whirlwind...sure is." While he said this he took a quick glance at Angel, who sat beside Scamp and pondered on his boy's life. He saw so much of his young self in Scamp, that it still astounded him...he'd miss him for sure.
Luckily his son had Angel. A name that could not fit any better. If Angel hadn't convinced him to get off the streets... he shuddered to think of what the now dead Buster could have done.
His eyes eventually drifted off to the fireplace and a warm memory filled his mind, as he closed his eyes.
"A Warm Home".
