Azriel looked out at the junkyard before him. His junkyard.
He had plans, big plans.
"This is a place of unity." He muttered softly to himself.
The blue-eyed dog's shoulders sagged for a second. He straightened himself, "This." Much to his dismay, his voice still came out barely louder than a whisper. He shook his head in frustration and tried again. "This." A smile escaped his lips when he heard the firm word that escaped his lips. Without missing a beat, he finished the rest of his statement, "...is a place of unity."
A ray of sunlight warmed Azriel as he sat atop the junk pile. Holding onto his firm tone, he continued speaking to himself. "And Father will teach all of you unity."
He couldn't help, but smile. He loved his children.
No matter how hard he had to discipline them, he loved them all. He gave them this beautiful place, this family and in exchange only asked that they contributed back. Their numbers were growing, fast. His workload increased, he had more to teach, more to gift.
It had been just him, poor and lonely Harley and a vision. Now look where they were. Atop of all that had held them down in the past. He glanced behind him and spotted Harley now, speaking to one of his children. Azriel never bothered really learning their names, they were past that point now. They were in new time of their lives, a glorious time of their lives, they just needed to embrace it, as it had embraced them.
Harley never did talk. Azriel found him wandering around like a lost puppy. How could he have just left him there on his own? Harley had been the first to receive the gift of unity. After Azriel came along, Harley had something to live for, somewhere to go back to each day. He was no longer just a relentless, silent killer. He was now a relentless, silent killer with a purpose. A wonderful purpose.
Only time would tell how well the newcomers would adapt to their new life. He hoped that for their sake, it wouldn't take too long. All he needed from them was their cooperation and absolute loyalty. Luckily he wasn't the only one who would teach them unity. Will and Bill, the German Shepherd twins could be relied on to handle any newcomers. He trusted them, a promotion would come their way soon enough.
All the leaders in this place had been personally mentored by Azriel himself. They knew the gift of unity almost as well as he did. There was a reason that they were the strongest, fastest dogs among all the others, it was because they had long ago accepted his gift, accepted the glory that had come into their lives. He sadly watched on whenever any of his children were being disciplined. They refused to make it easy and accept his gift. That would not be tolerated.
He was everything that a leader should be and more. He was decisive, thoughtful, strong, brave and caring. The well-being of his children came first. They didn't need food or water, no he looked past those things. He made sure that they had discipline and other values. The things he did were only to get them to accept their gifts quicker. Why wait for longer than necessary?
Azriel stood then giving his junkyard one more admiring look before going off to sort out one of his many 'fatherly' duties.
