(Niles' POV)

"You know…" Frasier pondered as he sat opposite Niles and Roz in Café Nervosa. "I heard the most extraordinary thing on the radio today."
Niles nodded, his heart pounding in his chest. Never before had he been so grateful for his state-of the-art sound system in his Silver BMW. "I know... Rubenstein's torrid survey of the Copin mazurkas. It took all my strength not to turn the car around, drive home and ravish my wife."

Roz scoffed. "That Daphne is one lucky lady."
"She certainly is." Daphne said, surprising them all. "Hello sweetheart." She said, taking a moment to kiss him. It was then that he realized that he wanted to follow through with his plan.
"Hello, my love. What brings you here?"

"Oh, just buying a bag of beans for your father. What's up?"
Niles raised his hand to get the barista's attention.
"Hello, Dr. Crane." Taylor said, appearing by his side. "What can I do for you?"
"Will you get a biscotti and a cinnamon tea for my beautiful wife and unborn child?"
"Niles…"
"Hello, Mrs. Crane."
Daphne extended her hand. "Hello, Taylor. How are you?"

"I'm fine, thanks. I'll get that tea and biscotti right away."
"Thank you. May I join you?"
The two Crane men and Roz moved their chairs so that Daphne was able to sit down. "So what's going on? I think I walked in on something I wasn't supposed to hear." Daphne said. Then she leaned over to her husband's ear. "Although I like the sound of being ravished tonight. Can I take you up on that offer?"
He grinned like a little boy. "You certainly can!"

She leaned to kiss him and stroked his hair. "Good. I can hardly wait to get home. But first I'll finish me tea and biscotti."
"Here you are, Mrs. Crane." Taylor said, politely setting the order on the table. "Enjoy."
"Thank you, Taylor." Niles said. He reached into his pocket and handed her some money. "Keep the change."
She gasped, eyeing the ten dollar bill. "Dr. Crane, this is too much!"
"You deserve it." He said, smiling at the way she was staring at the money.
"Well, thank you, Dr. Crane. And if you need anything-."
"We'll be fine, thanks."
When she was gone, the conversation resumed. "So what's going on?" Daphne asked.
"Maris has been released on bail today." Frasier said.

"Oh, yes. Of course she's still under house arrest until her murder trial. Poor thing has to wear an electronic tracking device on her ankle. She keeps getting zapped because she can't keep the thing on. And it's on its smallest size."
Daphne tried to hide her laughter, but they all knew it was impossible.
"It is rather funny." Niles said. "There was a time when I would have done anything for her, but-." A wave of unexplained sadness came over him and he felt Daphne reach for his hand. "I-I'm sorry, Daphne."
"It's all right. I understand. It takes a long time to get over someone. I still think about Donny from time to time."

He covered her hand with his. "I know…"
They stared at one another so long that he was beginning to get lost in her eyes.
"I think it's time to go, don't you?" she stammered.
"Absolutely, Daphne. I need to get Maris off of my mind. And I know just how to do that."

She laughed and kissed him. "I don't know what you're thinking but I can guess."
"You mean you're not having a psychic vision?"

"Not yet, but you never know…"
Niles cleared his throat. "Um, Daphne and I have something we need to take care of."
"Thank you for the tea and biscotti, but we really do need to get going." Daphne said.

"You're leaving so soon?" Roz asked.
"We'll see each other later." Daphne replied. "But right now I want this handsome man all to meself."
And as they left the café, she knew that Niles was still apprehensive about Maris, but she'd make certain that he was fully relaxed. Daphne would take care of everything.
