"Why did you offer me an internship?" Inari freezes as she is about to take a sip from her coffee at the question. She looks up to see Shōto standing beside her cot with narrowed eyes and a blank expression.
"Because your father's a pile of fucking trash and I don't want you to be forced into a toxic environment for a week straight," Inari answers slowly, setting down her shaking cup of coffee. Shōto looks downright villainous and growls under his breath.
"Midoriya told you."
Inari scoffs and rolls her eyes. "No. Hot 'n' Cold, don't you remember what I said when I first entered your classroom? I see and do the shit that heroes are legally unable or just can't do. My father had an eye on that asshole ever since 20 fucking year old Endeavor married 14 year old Yukimura Rei. Since I followed the family business, he made sure I also kept an eye on him."
"He's not fucking secretive about the shit he does to you and your family, he's just rich–and powerful," Inari adds offhandedly, closing the file in her hand. Shōto scowls angrily, frost appearing on the side of his neck. Inari sighs heavily and waves a hand towards the seat beside her cot.
"I won't do anything unless you want me to. Situations like these are fucking delicate, and you add the fact that Endeavor's the Number 2 Hero who has the Commission covering up all the shit he's done to others, to you, and to society, it gets messy," She says as she places the file next to her coffee.
"My father will be able to teach me how to control my fire. I have to intern with him," Shōto states as if it was a fact. Inari snorts with an eye roll.
"I could teach you more than that bastard could ever teach and I don't even know the first thing to teach a fire user." Inari leans back with a smile. "Besides, I know a fire user who could teach you everything you need to know about how to utilize and control your fire. And, you know him."
Shōto stares at her in confusion, slowly sitting down in the chair. Inari glances at the clock and bites her lip.
"If you do accept my internship, I'll make sure you and the other interns will learn all you can. Since you're gonna be a hero–a big one–you'll need to learn all the boring paperwork shit an' how to investigate people properly. Heroics ain't as easy as everyone tells it t'be." The white haired woman turns her gaze towards the bi-color haired teenager.
She sighs softly and slowly reaches out her hand. Inari feels fury spark inside her at the flinch Shōto barely shows when she gently grabs his hand.
"Endeavor will be angry–fucking furious–but I swear that you will be safe with me and he will not lay a single finger on you during your internship with me," Inari promises, squeezing his hand. Shōto stares at her with wide eyes before his blank expression comes back.
"Who are the other interns?" He asks, making Inari sigh in slight disappointment. He's closed himself off.
"Midoriya, Iida, possibly Bakugō. We'll be staying in Hosu for the entire week. There's a couple cases I have there, even a stakeout. It'll be a bit boring, but I'll make sure you all will train whenever we can."
"Can you even take more than one intern?" Shōto asks.
Inari shrugs and grabs the file again. "I don't fucking know. I'll make sure it happens though. Y'all are fucking feral and it'll be fucking great to teach y'all."
Shōto blinks at the statement before slightly tilting his head. His eyebrows furrow and he stares down at one of his hands.
"...but I am not an animal. How am I feral?" Inari snorts out a laugh and covers her mouth. She accidentally chokes on her laugh in her rush to stifle it and goes into a painful coughing fit.
"Shi–it. Fuck," The white haired woman manages to cough out, gripping the shirt over her lungs. She opens her eyes, wheezing heavily and sees a glass of water in front of her. She looks up and gives Shōto a wide-eyed look before carefully grabbing it.
"Th-tha–anks," Inari mutters hoarsely before drinking the water. She sighs heavily in relief as the cold water soothes her searing throat.
She takes a deep breath and leans further into the pillows. "Get going. I'm fucking sure you don't wanna stay while I do some boring shit and I'm sure the others will start to look for ya."
Inari glares down at the file on her lap before looking back up. She watches Shōto silently nod once in a goodbye as he stands up.
"Asking for help'll feel stupid, but it ain't. Don't have to do anything, but remember what I said." Shōto pauses right before he walks out of the infirmary. He doesn't say anything and starts walking again. Inari stares after him for a few moments before focusing back on the file.
"This class is a fucking shit show of problems. I really hoped I wouldn't be doing this shit once more..." Inari groans in slight annoyance. Of fucking course.
"What are you doing?" Inari groans out loud and drops her file in defeat. How many others are going to interrupt her while she works?!
"What the fuck you want, Eraser. I'm busy," She states while waving the file around. Eraserhead ignores it as he walks closer, sitting down in the chair next to her cot.
"You can't take more than two interns," He states dryly.
Inari rolls her eyes and gives him a look. "I'm taking the four. Don't fucking care about the rules about internships or shit like that."
"You won't be able to handle four of my students. Pick two." Eraserhead doesn't budge. Inari stares at him incredulously before holding up a finger.
"Broccoli Boi's Quirk is fucking weird and he can't fucking control it, and I ain't leaving him in anyone else's care until I can get him to control it. I'd rather die than leave Hot 'n' Cold with his shitty father for a full week. I need to make sure Pomeranian can pick out who's a Commission bitch or not. Sonic's lookin' for revenge and I'm gonna be there to stop him from taking anything too far–and to take the blame–so he'll have less to regret 'bout," Inari deadpans, making Eraserhead sigh heavily. He rubs his face with his hands before glaring tiredly at the white haired woman.
"You're biting off more than you can chew, Ine."
"I know." Inari opens the file again and begins to read. "Which is why two people who I trust with my life will be helping me."
"And I still don't know if Pomeranian's gonna pick me or Jeanist," She adds offhandedly. The conversation ends there and becomes overshadowed by the tense silence.
"You're such a problem child, you know," Eraserhead comments softly, making Inari blink up at him.
"Be careful, Inari." Inari doesn't say anything as the underground hero leaves. She glares at the empty chair before going back to her work.
"I can't in this line of work. You know that, Shōta."
Hey! I hope you all like the new chapter! I'm sorry for not updating this story and my others. I'm also sorry for the sporadic updates when I do update. I have this weird... motivation block (?) and it's interfering with my writing and school work.
I am trying to work past it. I hope you all are enjoying the story so far! Bye.
