When they exited the tunnel what they saw was blackness. It took Jacks eyes a moment to adjust but when they did he didn't think that it was much of an improvement. It looked like they were in a broom cupboard, there were some brooms in the corner and rags that looked like they hadn't been used on decades on shelves. Jack flew up and sat on one of the shelves. When Bunny came up and his eyes adjusted he exclaimed,

"Crikey! Is this a... broom cupboard?" "Yep, looks like it." Said Jack floating down. "Whatever. Ok Jack," said Bunny looking over to where Jack was standing. "Are you sure you don't need me to come with you?"

"I can do this myself Bunny, and besides, this is a strath mission," he said. "And a six foot kangaroo isn't very stealthy." "True, true," mused Bunny, ignoring his jab about kangaroos.

"I'll open the tunnel every hour for one minute and come out to look for you. And here," said Bunny, handing Jack what looked like a dog whistle. "What's this?" Jack questioned. "It's an Easter whistle. It's like a dog whistle but nobody can hear it but me," he said pointing to his ears. "Anywhere in the world you are, blow on it and I'll come to help you,"

"Aww, thanks Bunny," said Jack, taking the whistle and putting it in his pocket. Jack turned his back and cracked open the closet door. Bunny threw a worried look over his shoulder and then hopped into the tunnel and disappeared.

Jack looked back to see that Bunny was gone and then thought to himself, 'Well, no time like the present,' and slipped out the door.

Jack crept along the corridor, careful to keep in the shadows. 'Ok, first things first. I need a map of the stronghold and I need to figure out where they have Jamie.' He thought to himself.

From what he remembered from the last time he was here the main room was just up ahead. If he could get there he might be able to hear something about Jamie.

He snuck along the wall, careful to avoid the few nightmares he saw. When he got to the main room he made sure that he couldn't be seen and then flew up to the rafters to get a better view of the room.

When he was up and settled he peered down and tried to listen to what was going on below.

Nightmares milled around the room, but not as many as Jack would have thought. Pitch strode in, looking about as happy as a maniac who kidnaps teenagers and turns hope into fear could look.

"Greetings my beautiful nightmares. The prisoner is secure in dungeon 5 and will be ready soon. The last light," Pitch mused. "The very reason for my recent failure here, in my dungeon. How exciting!" Jack let out a tiny gasp at the words 'last light' because that could only mean Jamie.

Jack flew out of there as fast as he could, going down levels and trying to find dungeon 5. At last he came to a level with a big 5 on the arch.

"How convenient," Jack muttered as he flew down the corridor at breakneck speed. He past rows cells, each empty, until he saw a figure huddled underneath a tattered, brown and threadbare blanket. Jack stepped cautiously towards the cell.

"Jamie?" He hissed. "Is that you?" The figure say up and the blanket fell away from his face. Jack gasped at the sight of him.

"Jack?" Croaked the figure. "Is that you?" The sound of his voice made Jack hurt inside. It was definitely Jamie, there was no denying it. He had the same eyes and his hair was very dirty but still recognizable. He wore a tattered cloak over what looked to be the remains of old pjs.

"Jamie!" Jack rushed towards the cell and Jamie staggered to his feet, grabbing the bars for support. Jack reached in and grabbed Jamie, helping to steady him.

"You came," said Jamie with a small smile on his face, as though he still couldn't believe it. "You actually, finally came!" They were both close to tears and Jack started fashioning a key out of ice to unlock the cell door.

"Ya, I'm so sorry I didn't come sooner," apologized Jack. "I only found out about you being missing a few days ago when I came to surprise visit you and Sophie."

With a CLANK the door creaked open and Jamie staggered out. When Jack finally got a good look at him he almost started crying again. Jamie had bruises on his face and arms, accompanied by small cuts and nicks. Jack pulled Jamie into a big hug and they stayed that way for a good long while. When they finally pulled back Jack glanced over at the dirty old clock in the corner. It was almost time for Bunny to open the tunnel.

"Yikes, we gotta go," exclaimed Jack, filling Jamie in on the plan.

"I know a shortcut to get us there faster," said Jamie. Jack gave him a look and Jamie shrugged and said "What?!? I've been dragged all over this stupid place for the past 2 years, I kinda know my way around."

"Fair enough," said Jack. They fell into an uneasy silence, Jamie leaning on Jack for support. He lead them up a few staircases and through a few hallways. Jamie gestured to a door and said, "This door will take us through a small room and then to the broom closet," he explained. Jack nodded and opened the door. It was dark in there, and when I say dark I mean as black as Pitches soul.

Jack started to say, "What the-" when the door slammed shut behind him making him jump. It started getting lighter and soon Jack could see. The room itself was huge. It looked kinda like the dojo that Jack had seen Sophie take karate lessons in when she was younger, but it was bigger. Way bigger.

Jack turned to Jamie and started to say, "Jamie? I think this it the wrong room," when he got interrupted.

"Oh, on the contrary Jack, I think this is the perfect room."

"Pitch." Jack snarled, whirling toward the noise. Pitch materialized out if the shadows and took form right in front of Jack and Jamie. Jack put himself in front of Jamie and said "Pitch, what do you want?" To which Pitch responded, "Oh, what I want? Well that's quite simple, now isn't it? What I want is revenge. And," he added in a voice that made jacks blood run cold, "I've almost got it, isn't that right, my dark prince?" Pitch could see the confusion in Jacks eyes and chuckled, like this was all a funny joke.

"Oh, that's right, well, you know him better as Jamie."

Jack turned to Jamie only to see black and silver nightmare sand engulf him. When it dispersed Jamie looked totally different. He had on a long tunic that was black with silver swirls. Just like the new nightmare sand, Jack realized, his eyes growing wider by the second. And all of his cuts and bruises were gone too.

Jamie walked over to stand beside Pitch, a cold grin on his face. "Still happy to see me Jack?" He asked in a cruel tone.

"Jamie? What, no, this can't be happening," Jack cried as he fell to his knees. He looked up to Pitch and Jamie and saw that Pitch was standing with his arm around Jamie's shoulders.

"That's right Jack," he said gleefully, like an eight year old at Christmas. "Jamie here is my dark prince now, and my oh my, what a good dark prince he makes. Sure it took a while to get all that nasty hope out of him, but once I smushed all of his hope of rescue it was very easy to get him to embrace the dark and shun the light. And let me say, his powers and new ideas for the sand, mmm, amazing." Pitch smiled cruelly at Jack, who was still having a hard time wrapping his head around all of this.

"Thank you master," said Jamie.

"So, the energy surges that Sandy felt, that was kind of like yours but not? That was...Jamie?"

"That's right!" Pitch exclaimed with barely contained glee. "Now why don't I leave you two to get... reacquainted." Pitch have Jack one more nasty grin and then melted into the shadows, muttering about how this was going to be good and how he should get some popcorn.

Jamie waited for Pitch to fully resolve into shadow before turning his gaze on Jack. And his gaze, was full of nothing but hatred.

"Uhh, Jamie?" Jack said, jumping up and backing away from the advancing dark prince.

"I'm not Jamie anymore. At least, not the Jamie you knew." He said.

"But Jamie!" Jack stuttered. "Don't you remember all the fun times you and me had? Having snowball fights and building forts, and stuff?" Jack recounted all of the fun things that they did together and with his friends and Sophie before Jamie interrupted him.

"I'm not the Jamie you know, and let me tell you something," he said. His eyes glittered in a way that Jack had only seen before in Pitch.

"I don't care. About any of that." And then Jamie launched himself at a totally unprepared and scared Jack.
