CHAPTER SUMMARY: Rassilon is assigned as the first Lord President of Gallifrey, working hard to make the proper changes to help Gallifrey and it's people after the disaster plaguing the planet thanks to the demise of the Pythia. And thanks to the hardships, it has started to make Rassilon and Genesis put their differences aside and reconnect with each other again.
The Founders of Gallifrey
Chapter 8: The Start of a New Age
Gallifrey and it's people had fallen into a state of peril once the Pythia had taken her own life. Whether it was because of a curse she inflicted on Rassilon and his followers or not, one thing was certain: something had to be done about this problem - and fast .
Rassilon faced the imminent extinction of the Gallifreyan race. The need to survive created the concept of rationalized families, born through their own genetic looms, that would stabilize the decimated population.
With this, Omega, Rassilon and the Other started to become known as the Triumvirate, continuing their work together on other projects to help Gallifrey advance. While they continued to work on the Stellar Manipulator and create Validum, they also helped Genesis learn to harness her abilities. This time started to bring everyone together even more as Genesis helped comfort Rassilon's wife over the loss of their child and started connecting to Patience.
Sitting with the other women, having drinks and food as had become the norm, they talked.
"It hasn't become any easier since - since losing her, and I know it's affected my husband just as much, that's why he's constantly away at the Academia working." Roni said, fumbling with the cup she held in her hands.
Patience sighed sadly. "It's never easy losing a loved one, much less your own child."
"At least this time has brought me closer to the both of you." exclaimed Roni.
They all shared something in common with relations to both Omega and Rassilon. Patience and Roni being their wives while Genesis was a sister to them.
The redhead smiled, having finally learned to accept others into her life like the Other encouraged. "I'm sorry about your loss too, Roni, but there is still hope. I mean - look at all the advances the guys have done so far with the looms." Genesis couldn't be more proud of them. "Life will still continue on."
Roni gave a bewildered look. "I'm still not sure how to feel about it, honestly. Not that I don't trust what my husband and your brother have done, but…"
"It isn't how things should be." Genesis replied knowingly. If she was to be honest, she doubted the fact of the curse being entirely real. There had to be a logical explanation to what happened. It was just something her brother and Rassilon instilled in her since she was little: to keep finding answers for things you questioned.
"But the Council of Lords were there when the Pythia shouted her curse to all of Gallifrey. She did exactly as she said she would." Roni remarked, making Genesis question if she had read her mind despite having her mental walls completely up.
"Genesis is right. Despite the Pythia following through with her plan, the guys have prevailed and overthrown her. You can still have a child, even if it isn't the way it should have happened." Patience glanced at her own stomach, giving a small, sad smile. "Omega and I were planning to have our own."
This made Genesis' eyes go wide with surprise, having to hold back from spitting out her drink right there and then. "W-What?"
"We had been in talks about it before."
A big smile came to her face as she sat down the cup, taking her sister-in-law into a hug. "Why didn't either of you tell me sooner?!"
Genesis felt a shift in her mental bond, knowing her brother had picked up on her thoughts concerning this subject, probably from Patience. In fact, she wanted him to. " Yeah, I'm talking to you as well, brother. When were you going to tell me that you and Patience were planning to have a child?" They never kept secrets from each other. The twins had always been a team.
She felt him immediately drop what he was working on in shock, knowing he had been caught. "Uh...I forgot to mention it with everything happening."
"Did you tell Rassilon?"
Omega slightly paused. "I might have mentioned it casually-"
"YOU TOLD RAZZ BEFORE ME?!"
"We got to talking about the daughter he would be expecting and-"
"It just came up." Genesis frowned, feeling sorry for bringing up the still sore subject. "I'm sorry. I didn't mean to make it come off as if I was mad. I just...you're all I've got brother. I just want you to be happy. I don't want to lose you."
She felt Omega soften. "You'll never lose me, sister."
Despite his reassurance, that deep gut clenching feeling told her otherwise. She couldn't explain why it was there, but it wouldn't go away, and that was what terrified her. All Genesis wanted was for her brother - her twin - to be happy and live his life. After all Omega had done for her, trying to keep her safe his whole life, that was her wish.
"Come to the Citadel. Rassilon wishes to speak with you." Her brother said with annoyance and slight worry.
Having bid farewell to Roni and promising to meet Patience back at home, Genesis followed the request made of her and went to the Citadel. After all, she couldn't exactly deny when the request came from the Lord President of Gallifrey himself.
When Lord Dowtroyal, a kinsman of Rassilon and the leader of the Court of Principals, came to him with the news concerning the Pythia's next successor, which happened to be Rassilon himself, it made Genesis ponder on the meaning behind Vael's message to her.
"Just watch out for the Pythia's true successor...he's closer than you realize…"
There was no doubt that he had been talking about Rassilon. Sure, she had questioned his motives for quite awhile, realizing her brother's best friend had changed from the person she once knew, but the message still didn't make sense. Even if he became an ass, Rassilon just wanted the same as her brother and the Other: to help Gallifrey and their people.
The people had even chosen Rassilon as their new leader. It was why the Court of Principals was now disbanded and became known as the High Council of Gallifrey. It was the reason why Rassilon became the first Lord President of Gallifrey in the first place.
What did she have to be weary of?
Making her way through the door, she heard the sound of arguing that only died down when Omega and Rassilon realized she had arrived. "Ah, Genesis, thank you for coming."
"Of course. I didn't think it wise to disregard orders from the Lord President."
Rassilon cocked an eyebrow before chuckling. "I may be the President now, but that doesn't mean I'm not still your friend."
She shot both of them a look. "Then why were you two aruging?"
Omega sighed. "I-"
"Dear Omega here was afraid I would reprimand you because of how things went down last time between us." Rassilon explained, putting an arm around his best friend. "But as I was trying to tell him, I think of you like a little sister too. I didn't want any harm to come to you or Gallifrey." He straightened himself. "It's why I invited you here, to apologize. I'm sorry for how I behaved, Genesis."
The redhead blinked, wondering if she heard right. Was she starting to see a glimpse of the old Rassilon she knew? The one who was kind and caring, her brother's best friend, like another brother to her before she started to question who he had become.
She really wanted to believe it and give him a chance, so she accepted his apology. "Thank you, Razz."
"I'm glad you two have finally made up." Omega said with a sigh of relief, overdramatic as ever. "It's just like old times again!"
"Although, we've claimed victory over the Pythia this time..." he paused, looking sullen. "at a terrible cost."
Genesis couldn't help but feel sorry for him. The twins knowing quite well of the loss concerning family. "And yet, you carry on. No one has taught me that better than you and my brother." She smiled.
Omega and Rassilon exchanged similar smiles before the Lord President spoke, giving them a small smile. "I need my friends now more than ever during this time." He bit his lip in nervousness, slightly fumbling with his fingers. "The weight of being the new leader everyone looks to is exhausting, much less having to fix everything the Pythia has left since her reign."
"You won't be doing it alone, my old friend!" exclaimed Omega, patting his friends back boastfully. He glanced over to his sister. "Right, Genesis?"
She couldn't help but agree with her brother. "Whatever you need, Razz. You were always there for us, right from the start, even when we lost our parents." It was the least they could do to repay the favor. Genesis had practically been raised by her brother and Rassilon. They had always been her family. That was why it hurt her when she started to see changes with Rassilon, who had become almost distant and closed into himself.
"I promise the both of you, we will become Lords of Time and continue to make Gallifrey a prosperous place for the future to come." It was something he wouldn't give up on, no matter what happened.
"Just promise me that while the both of you work to save Gallifrey that you will also spend time with your wives." Genesis said, giving them pointed looks. "They miss you."
The blonde scratched the back of his head nervously. "Is there anything else Patience told you that I should know?" he asked.
This caused Rassilon to raise an eyebrow in surprise. "She found out, didn't she?" Omega gave him a look confirming it. "I told you. It was only a matter of time." He smirked proudly.
"AND YOU BOTH KEPT IT A SECRET FROM ME!" exclaimed the redhead.
Rassilon rolled his eyes, playing it off as if it wasn't that big a deal. "Overdramatic as ever, I see. I'm starting to think it's a Havenforth family thing."
Omega and Genesis both shot their childhood friend a look before the three of them broke down into laughter, feeling like they were reliving times in their childhood when it was just the three of them out in the red grassy fields of the planet.
Friends. Family. A Trimuatrive of their own - the original one - before things changed.
Before Genesis had to start hiding her abilities for fear of getting captured. Before Omega desired to become a stellar engineer and was just an older brother trying to keep his sister safe with his friend. Before Rassilon just wanted to make a desperate change and become an architect instead of continuing on as the son of a suet shredder.
And even before the Other became a part of their lives.
Just three children from Gallifrey, wanting to make a difference in their lives and everyone else's.
