It's Virgil's birthday! I think that means I need to fix what I've done to him and his lil bro. Can't have him sad on his birthday!
Virgil tried to stay calm, but that was hard to do when there was a gun pointed right at your face.
He guessed that they couldn't be too far from where TB2 crashed, if they took Virgil here and tied him up all in the time it took for Virgil to wake up. The others must have come for them once they realised he crashed, so he just had to stall until they got there.
"Gordon, please listen to me. You don't have to do anything the Hood says," Virgil tried to get through to his brother before he pulled the trigger. He didn't know if it was working, but Gordon still had yet to fire the gun.
"Shoot him!" The Hood yelled again, the growing frustration clear in his voice as he scowled at Gordon.
But Gordon didn't listen to him. Instead, he winced, and with the hand that wasn't holding the gun, he reached up to the wound on his head that Virgil had just noticed not too long ago.
"Gordon?" Virgil's concern for his brother grew as Gordon's face scrunched up and he squeezed his eyes shut. Despite the fact that he was the one who had the gun to his face, his worry for his brothers came first.
Then, Gordon's eyes flew open, and his gaze immediately fell on Virgil.
"Virgil?" Gordon's voice was small and quiet, but it was still him, and not the Hood who said his name.
Virgil slumped in relief, but that moment of comfort didn't last long, as the Hood's voice boomed around the small space.
"I said shoot him!"
Gordon cried out in pain and the gun fell from his hand and clattered to the floor. Both of his hands flew to his head and he dropped to his knees, and he was close enough to Virgil for him to see his brother's face tight with pain as his eyes squeezed shut again.
"Listen to me!" The Hood stepped closer to Gordon, and Virgil pulled against his restraints as he tried to move in front of his brother to protect him, but he was stuck where he was.
But then Gordon slowly lifted his head so that his eyes could meet the Hood's.
"No," Gordon uttered out through clenched teeth, his voice sounding breathless.
"Fine," The Hood growled, and he reached down to pick the abandoned gun up. Just when Virgil thought they were clear, he was reminded that with someone like the Hood here, they were never safe. "If you won't do it, then I will."
Virgil heard the safety click off as the Hood raised the gun in his direction, and Virgil thought it was all over, until he heard a roaring sound above.
It was the sound of TB1's turbines as she came to land nearby.
"It's over, Hood. You won't get away," Virgil found it in himself to grin.
The Hood snapped his head up as he heard the sound too and also knew what it meant. He sent a look at Virgil, and then to Gordon. Even if he did shoot Virgil, he wasn't going to get away with Gordon as well in time.
A frustrated growl echoed from his throat, and it was to Virgil's relief that he dropped the arm holding the gun.
"This isn't the last you'll hear from me, Tracys," he said, and with that, he fled out the door.
Virgil didn't know if he would get away, but he didn't even really care at that moment. He just cared that they were both safe and the Hood was gone for now.
"Gordon? Are you okay?" Virgil hesitantly caught the attention of his brother. He was still a little worried that the Hood still might have some hold over his brother.
But when Gordon lifted his head in his direction, Virgil could see that the concern in his brother's eyes was very much his own.
"Oh, Virgil, I'm so sorry!" Gordon crawled across the floor to him and began to untie Virgil's arms.
"There's nothing to apologise for, Gordon. You didn't do anything wrong."
"But he still used me to hurt you." Gordon slumped once he had freed Virgil and looked down at the floor.
"Listen to me, Gordon," Virgil moved forward and tilted his brother's head up so that his eyes met Virgil's. "None of this was your fault, alright?"
Gordon looked at him for a long moment, before he slowly nodded, but then winced again as the movement jostled his aching head. Virgil made note to take a look at it as soon as he could, as his brother most definitely had a concussion.
But right now he was just glad this nightmare was over. He pulled Gordon into a tight hug, which his brother returned, until he pulled back with a grimace and rubbed at his ribs.
"Oh, yeah. I'm sorry about that." Now it was Virgil's turn to apologise as he remembered what he had done to stop his brother from attacking him.
"Doesn't matter," Gordon brushed it off and pulled Virgil into a hug again, the pain forgotten about for now as the two of them were just happy to still be alive.
Thank you all so much for reading this! If it wasn't for your support, I would have just left this at one part, and that wasn't fair on Gordon or Virgil was it XD
