Chapter 18: A moment of silence

The grounds of Hogwarts were bathed in light, and somewhere under a deserted tree were Leyviena and Severus. They were there together in perfect peace, there 6th year had started of calm as usual. Both of them were taking this time to be together, Severus was half lying down against a tree and Leyviena had her left ear crossed over his heart, intensely listening to his heart beat. Her eyes flickered as she levitated a book above her head. The history of divination was a tick book that she was barely able to keep above her. Snape was reading a thick book of advanced potions and was reading a complicated recipe of polyjuice potion.
"Are you thinking about making it?" She stared at him. "To get back at a certain Gryffindor boy…"
"No, it's just for a paper I'm making for potions. The paper you had to make on a potion…"
"I'm making it on liquid luck." She smiled. "I'm thinking about brewing it. It's complicated, but I think I can totally pull it off."
"What do you need liquid luck for?" He paused. "Exams?"
"No, It's for my aunt, she is in desperate need for a rich single man." She laughed. "I think she could use to luck, it seems that life has been handing her bad luck of all sorts."
"And it has something to do with a guy?" He raised an eyebrow.
"Off course not." She smiled. "Maybe a little, my aunt just needs luck really hard."

She slowly hang closer and kissed him. It was a sweet kiss, after a few seconds she trembled. A smile appeared on her face, but that one was cut off by Sirius. He stepped towards them joined by his friend James Potter and Peter Pettigrew. Almost directly Snape's body was lifted in the air. He screamed it out, Leyla was pushed to the floor.
"What does he have that I don't?" Sirius stared at her.
"I don't know me." She stood up. "Let him go, or I swear my mother will find out about this. I don't think you want your small friend there not to compete in Quidditch."
"For bullying a slytherin?" James stared at her. "So it's easy dumb him and we'll drop him."
"I don't want to do this…" She took her wend and pointed it at Peter Petegrew. "You drop him, or I'll hex Peter. I swear to Merlin it's going to hurt."
"You think so?" Sirius stared at her. "So how do you feel about you and me now?"
"I've thought about it." She smiled. "And I'll stay with my current boyfriend. The one that's dangling in the air."
She turned to Severus, took her wand and spoke the following words. 'Petrificus Totalus', Peter Petegrew became as stiff as a board and fell down. She slowly moved towards James and pointed her wand hand in his direction. Her eyes went to Severus who was still making disturbed sounds. Leyla stared at Sirius. It was James that had performed the spell.
"Levi Corpus…" James was pulled in the air, at the same time Severus fell down. All of the sudden she fell a pain in her whole body, almost like she had fallen down. She slowly moved towards Snape and pulled him up. She pulled him along with her and ended the spell. James fell down in the same fashion as Severus had done. She pulled his hand closer.
"Are you okay?" She asked.
"I'm fine." He whispered.

Leyla stared in the mirror at the long dark blue mark on her back. She had gotten it when Snape fell down, yet she hadn't fallen or been hit by anything. She softly pushed on the marks, a feeling of pain went through her body. Was she too connected to her boyfriend? Were this her powers that extended to him? Why was this? She turned to her reflection and remembered all the black spots that she had during the previous summer. She'd never been hurt those times either, it were the times Severus went home. She felt pain for him, she'd never really thought about his parents, yet now she had too. She moved her sweater over the mark.
"Leyla…" Lily stood next to her. "What's going on with you?"
"Nothing much, just minding my own business." She turned away. "Why does your boyfriend, give my boyfriend a hard time? He's making him dangle above the ground again."
"I'll try to do something about it." Lily reacted. "But you know that I can't control where he goes. I know he can be difficult, you know how it goes."
"Well, I would appreciate if James were not to attack my boyfriend." Leyla stared to her feet. "I could make it so he won't be able to play quidditch, he'll think about attacking my boyfriend when there consequences."
Lily nodded her head softly and sat down on her bed. For a moment Leyla sat down next to her, both of them smiled at each other. Leyla moved her hand over Lily's.
"You're right, James can't hurt Severus anymore." Lily replied. "I'll make sure of it."

"Are you sure that you and Sev are a good idea?" Lily stared at her. "I mean he's making friends with potential future death eaters, which means you could risk yourself. Leyla, he's a risk. You deserve better. I'm not saying Sirius is better for you, but I really worry about the ways Severus is with dark arts. He's getting dark."
"You might think that, but it isn't the truth." She smiled at Lily. "He knows what he's doing and he is not meddling in the dark arts, he would never do that to me."
"What about his friends?" Lily stared at her. "I don't even know their names."
"He just hangs with them, for protection." Leyla turned away.
"So you're staying together?" A girl from by the door reacted. "He's like ugly, I don't understand how you, a proud Gryffindor, can be with him, a sly Slytherin."
"He's more than that." Leyla shook her head. "You would understand if you would only know him. No one gives him the time of day. And since when is it a bad thing to be ambitious."
"No one in Slytherin ever ends up good…" The girl said. "They all turn to his side, right after Hogwarts. Do you want to be engaged to a death eater?"
"Severus is not a death eater." Leyla stared to the girl in anger. "Nor will he end up to be a death eater. I trust him."
"You trust him?" The girl turned to Leyla. "He has dark potential."
"Yet all I see his light potential." She replied. "He's a good person, he's heart is true. You don't ever talk to him, so you don't know what kind of person he is."

She stormed out, angry. No, angry didn't describe the feeling that went through her vanes. She was furious. How could they say those things about him, Severus was a good boyfriend. She was sure of his beautiful nature, she had always been. Yet somehow there was always a sadness everywhere he came. The bullying did that to him, his parents did that to him. She wanted to take everything negative from his life. She slowly stepped over the school ground. She made her way to the dungeons of Slytherin. When she walked outside the common room of Slytherin, she saw Severus with a few of his friends.

"It's your girlfriend." One of the boys whispered.
Snape slowly stepped away from them and placed both his hands on the side of her face. He noticed the anger in her eyes, it was a very obvious anger. She pulled her face from his hands and turned from him.
"I can't believe them, they're supposed to be brave, yet most of them talk behind someone's back like cowards." She stared at him. "You can't believe what they say about you and our future."
"I can guess what they say…" He pulled her in his arms. "That I'm good for nothing. It's what your mother says, that Sirius was better."
She slowly kissed him, trying to forget every words her Gryffindor friends had said. She tried to imagine her own future, the happiness that would certainly be in their future, maybe even a child or two. Maybe they would even get a dog, they would live in a small house near a lake. Maybe Hogsmeade, she could teach at Hogwarts and maybe he could replace Slughorn. They had a golden future, at least in her head they had. In front there was a big neutral zone for them to fill. Whatever that neutral zone would be, in this world it was a big question. At this moment, she was happy and she would like the happiness to live on.
"We'll be happy." Snape whispered to her. "Whatever they're saying, it's wrong. I'm not involved with the dark arts at all. You know that…"
"I believe you." She paused. "I always believe you."

"I'm going to take animagus training, my mother is teaching it." She smiled. "I always had interest in turning myself in an animal, how about you?"
"I don't think there's super advanced potions." He raised an eyebrow to her. "If there was, I'd be taking that class. So what will you be turning in?"
"A unicorn." She put her arms around his neck. "I've always loved unicorns."

The months passed by, seasons switched and the leaves in Hogwarts fell from their tall trees. Even wimping willow on the side of the grounds seemed to stay quiet. Leyla and Severus grew closer and the bullying that had been bad for a while, seemed to die all together. Their happiness was something that was a fact and Leyla loved it. She loved everything she was doing and the future seemed brighter. Yet in the far north there were rumours of Voldemort rising to power. They had been hearing those rumours for years, yet right now they whispering had turned to yelling. There were not few students from Slytherin that were chosen by him, that is what people said. And then winter break came around. Severus and Leyla were playing in the snow as a conversation rose up between them.
"I'm going home this winter break." He turned to her. "I would rather you not to join me, dad can get bad. If you won't mind."
"What do you mean by bad?" She seemed hurt by his refusal of taking her. "Me being there will stop him, right?"

"I don't think his behaviour can be switched off by anything." He stared to his feet. "Plus he was fired from his job in the factory, he's home all day, I'm okay with being tormented. I don't want you to get hurt by him…"
"Why don't you stay at Hogwarts as usual?" She stared at him. "I mean why would you go home to your father if you don't have to?"
"Because my mother send me an urgent owl." He put his hands on the side of her face. "She expects me home. She insisted. I know that she would die to meet you, yet I don't want to take the risk."
"Severus, I don't think it's smart." She put her hand on his. "I don't want you to get hurt, if you get hurt, I get hurt. I think I should go…"
"No, you can't go."

"I want to go…"
