Chapter 23: The secrets of that night
Leyla had hardly noticed what happened around her. She felt pain, that was all she knew. Sometimes pain was so strong you hardly ever saw anything. That was not the case for Leyla. She saw it when Lily stepped next to her. She noticed how Lily called for Remus Lupin. How had Lily know that she was here? Leyla looked at Remus, he pulled her in his arms. He was strong, he had always been strong. They had a simple relationship. They were friends. Great friends. Almost brother and sister. There had never been something romantic between them. She watched as they went to Lily's house. She heard Lily say that she would ask for her father's help. She didn't want it, yet she didn't have enough strength to deny it. She thought about her daughter. How she left the girl with people who deserved a child more than anything. She watched Lily open a portal to Asgard. She had never been there, she had heard stories about her father. She had never met him in real life. She doubted if she actually wanted it. She didn't know what her father would say to her. He had never chosen to stay with her. He had a scary reputation, he caused destruction and seemed almost aggressive. That was what they told about him. She actually didn't know if she believed it. She actually chose to believe that he didn't exist. She wouldn't be able to deny his existence longer.
When bright white light appeared, Leyla tried to close her eyes. She noticed that Lily tried to carry her to the top of the stairs. Yet it seemed that Lily had given up. A man with blond hair and blue eyes pulled her in his arms. He didn't say anything about Lily being human. He simple said no word, almost as he know who Leyla was. He carried her to the top of the stairs, to his father. That was when she heard the first words.
"Please Odin, save her. She's your daughter. Someone attacked her."
"Who has chosen to attack my flesh and blood?" He moved his hand over her body. The wounds closed right away. Leyla sat up. It was the first time she had seen the blond god that was known as Odin. He had her blue eyes and blond hair. It seemed that she had the facial structure of her mother. He handed her something. He said it was for protection. That she might need it, he didn't want her to get hurt. She had never seen him as a caring man. The image she saw off him, was completely different from what he knew. She almost felt guilty for all the years he had not seen him.
"How are you Leviena?" Thor stared at her. "I'm your brother Thor."
That moment more people walked from the castle. There was a man with half long black hair. He looked at her, almost like people had talked about her. Almost like they had watched her. There was a woman there, she had red hair. She stared at Leyla in guilt. She had no idea who the woman was. She hardly knew anything about Norse gods.
Lily sat down by her side. She smiled as Leyla hugged her. There were tears in her eyes, she wanted to tell everyone about her daughter. Yet she thought about what she had lost and words about Hermione would hurt more than she thought. She was sure that the Grangers were going to take care of her daughter. They were going to make Hermione the happiest little girl. She felt how Lily moved her hands in circles over her back. It made her happy for her daughter. There was nothing she could give Hermione that the Grangers couldn't either. The young couple would be perfect for Hermione.
"Ley what's wrong?" Lily asked. "What happened?"
"I gave up my daughter." She looked away. "I gave her to a family who truly wanted a child. She's better off there, she was in danger."
"Leys, we could get her." Lily smiled. "We'll just leave, you have more right to her. You could raise her in this place. Imagine the fun the girl would have. You are her mother, she deserves to know you."
"I'm not going to take her." She said. "She's happy with her new parents."
Odin told they had a vacant bedroom upstairs. He told her the two of them could rest. After that they could wonder through the gardens. They could stay as long as they wanted. Lily smiled as she pulled Leyla up. Both of the girls went for the 4th floor where the vacant rooms were. The castle was truly big, Leyla had never expected this. It was truly a surprise that a castle could ever be that big. She looked at the beauty. There was a big central hall, it was a throne room. She didn't know if gods called it the same. They walked in their room, it was three times bigger than the common room of Gryffindor and Lily's living room. There were two beds in the room. Almost that the room knew exactly what they needed.
"You're not going to yell at me right?" Lily turned to Leyla. "I had to take you here, I couldn't let you die. You know you are my best friend and I need you here. You can't forget you are my best friend."
"I don't blame you." Leyla smiled. "I would have done the same."
They hugged each other. They had been friends for so long.
They had met in Ireland when they were about five. Both of the girls were on a vacation in Ireland. Leyviena was staying with her aunt Katarina and Lily was staying with the chalet next door. It was a quiet December evening when they first met. It been in the early morning. Both Lily and Leyla were looking for a nice day on skiing. They met on the top of the mountain. Leyla hadn't dared to go down the hill. She looked at Lily as Lily would say she needed to take a chance. So Leyla dared to go down the hill. Those days they spent together were amazing. The girls seemed instant friends. As they skied they would sing songs. They were songs from the wizard world.
"I'm a witch as well." Lily would say by the evening fire. There was no one but the two of them. Leyla smiled as she told Lily about Hogwarts. It seemed that Lily already know much of the things Leyla was saying. Some of them were new.
"I live there, you know." Leyla explained. "My mother is a teacher, transfiguration."
"You live at Hogwarts?" Lily looked at her in jealousy. "My home doesn't have magic and it's old and boring."
"Well, there are upsides." Leyla nodded. "But I'm also very sheltered. My mother doesn't like me talking to a lot of people."
The girls stared at each other. They both wanted the life the other one had. Leyla wanted to have friends, to go to school and not be taught by her mother. Lily wanted to live in Hogwarts, she wanted magic all around her. She wanted to meet even more people who could use magic. The girls stared at each other. They also wanted to stay friends.
Weeks passed by and the girl grew closer and closer. They would spent time together every single day. They even took turns spending time in each other's vacation home. The evening before Leyla left, they sat together.
"I'm never going to see you again." Lily whispered. "There's not chance you will visit me."
"My mom won't let it." Leyla took a small knife and made a cut in her hand. "We'll be blood sisters."
Lily smiled and did the very same thing. It didn't hurt right away, yet Lily was sure that she could feel the pain after a few seconds. She pushed her hand together with that of Leyla. They stared each other in the eyes. They whispered that they were blood sisters. Their hands fitted together and it seemed they were supposed to be friends. A smile appeared on her face. After a few seconds Leyla let go of Lily's hand. She smiled as she took a cage from behind her back. Lily looked at the snow white owl in the cage.
"It's Cissy." Leyla replied. "She is my owl's daughter. You can have her. You can write to me. "
"She's beautiful. Thank you."
Lily had always loved owls, she was going to take care of this one. She was going to care for it. Leyla smiled as they gave the owl some food. It stared at them with an intelligent eye. Years had passed since then and Cissy was still alive. She had grown in a big owl. She had grown to be the mother of a small owl, which Lily took care off and in the end it would be her child's owl. If she ever had one. Right that moment Lily looked at Leyla. She didn't know if she would ever understand Leyla. She couldn't imagine giving up her child. Yet she believed that it was for the best.
"What's her name?"
"Hermione." Leyla replied. "Her name is Hermione. At least that's what I think the called her. I don't know how they called her. Am I a bad person? I thought I was dying, I didn't know what to do. I needed a good family."
"you did the right thing." Lily nodded. "You'll have to live with this your whole life? Do you think you can do this? It's difficult. You've lost your daughter."
Leyla cried. She cried for the daughter she had lost. Lily simple held her. They had done this so much time. It never got old, they cared for each other when no one cared for them. They were friends and they would always be.
"Lily, how did you find me?"
"I got a vision you were in trouble. I just knew where to find you." Lily replied. "I think it's because we're blood sisters. I know when something bad happens, I think you've felt it before."
"Thank you for saving Lils."
That morning left. Leyla told her she would come to find Lily in the future. Her time in Asgard started. She spent a lot of time with her brother Thor. They talked about their childhood and Thor thought her more about the powers she had. There were things she didn't know she could do. He told that everyone of their kind had their limits. Hers were that she couldn't hurt anyone. If she did, she would receive the same wounds. It was like Leyla had lived. She was truly good, she would never hurt a single creature and that was how she was drawn as a god. He told that one day she could become a full god. She didn't seem interested at first.
"We grew up watching you." He said. "Even mother grew okay with you. She saw a lot of herself in you. Your mother and my father was in a moment that my father had difficulty in his marriage. It just happened."
"I understand."
"My father loved your mother. He tells me all the time. There's something about Minerva McGonagall. She was fierce. Like no one I had ever seen before. She's a force of nature and you got that from her."
They talked about everything they went through. In the distance she could see Loki staring at her. It was almost that he wanted something from her. So she would not give him any attention. Yet he kept looking at her from the distance. After two weeks she found herself in the gardens. She looked at the flowers as she drew them. She painted the colours.
"You're an artist." Loki was standing behind her. "I'm Loki."
"I know." She smiled. "You're a lot like someone I know. It's hard to see you and remember him. He was my husband."
"What was he like?" He replied. "Disliked?"
"Sometimes." She replied. "Not by me, I love him. I ran away from him, but not because I didn't love him. I think you are like him. He believed he was not important, he taught he was bad. I can say anything bad you think about yourself is wrong. I can see goodness. "
"My father doesn't think I'm important."
"Fathers shouldn't be important. I tell you, you seem like a brave soul."
Loki smiled at her as he sat down. She continued to draw, she stared at the animals around her. She moved her pencil over the paper. She looked at him for a moment and started to draw his face. She made him seem angelic. His eyes were bigger than they actually were and he seemed like a nice man. She smiled at him as she finished the drawing. She handed it to him.
"Is that how you see me?" He put the drawing down.
"That's how you are. A hero. You are good. No matter what people say to you."
"Who tried to kill you?" He stared at her.
"Bellatrix LeStrange, a solider of Voldemort." She shook her head. "One of the most evil people I have ever met. The worst thing is, that he was in school with my mother. She didn't think he would ever become this evil. She said he was just awkward. He needs to be destroyed, if he doesn't, we…"
"I'll help you." He stared in her eyes. "I'll help you destroy him. But we have to figure out how. A figure like that will have some way to never die. That's what I would do anyway. We find what, we can find a way to destroy him."
The next months they started researching Voldemort. It became clear to the rest that Leyla had a hold on Loki. He spent every piece of his time with her. Sometimes Thor would join them, but never did they tell about their mission. It was something the two of them shared. I the months it became clear that Loki was truly good. He felt important. The friendship he got from Leyla was something he needed for years. He was pushed to the good side. She stayed in Asgard until a Halloween night. It was that night she felt exactly the same then Lily. She felt that Lily was in danger, so she stood up. She asked Loki to join her. They went for Lily's house. Lily had written about Harry Potter her son. Leyla had not seen him yet. She didn't have the time yet. When they arrived at her house, they saw it. She knew exactly where she needed to be. She got in through the window. That's where she used the shield. She saved Harry and Lily. Yet right away they knew that Voldemort was not dead.
"We need to go." Lily whispered. She noticed that the house had been destroyed. She reached for Harry, but Leyla said she couldn't take Harry. No one could know they were still alive. No one could know. Lily cried as she left her son behind. That day Lily would remember forever.
