Chapter 1

Elsa sat on the suede couch in the middle of her mothers apartment by herself. He long blonde hair was thrown into a messy bun and was slightly matted from not being brushed earlier on that day. Her clothing consisted of a pair of black leggings and blue sports bra, something simple to sleep in for the night. She fidgeted with the phone in her hand and gnawed at her bottom lip slightly. Not a single phone call from any prospective jobs she had applied for recently.

'Well isn't this just great…' Elsa thought silently to herself.

She sighed dramatically and lied down on the couch and looked up at the creme colored ceiling with her big green eyes. For the past three months she had been living with her mother and her brother so she wouldn't be stuck living on the streets. Living on the streets in LA was not somewhere you wanted to be. And coming from a slightly upper class family, she opted to swallow her pride and move back in with her mother than end up there. The city of Los Angeles was something she knew well though. Her mother Kelly Fellowes, being the captain of the LAPD's Special Investigations unit gave her a lot of first hand experience of what could happen. She had both heard and seen many of her mothers investigations. Nothing she ever wanted to really herself personally experience.

For the three months she had been living with her mom and brother she had put in job application after job application. Had several interviews that she herself had thought were great but obviously were not great enough to land her a job. She literally at times walked up and down the streets of LA all day applying at almost any location that was hiring. She silently cursed herself, not for the first time tonight. She was beginning to grow desperate for her own place again, and a job to be able to afford her own place.

A soft clicking sound followed by the opening of the front door snapped Elsa out of her thoughts and she quickly sat up to see her mother and brother walking through. Her brother Shane closed the door softly and turned around with a worried expression on his face and walked towards the kitchen carrying his briefcase and setting it on the table. Her mother was hanging up her jacket then locked the front door, since Shane had forgotten to.

Elsa frowned at her brothers expression. "Nothing yet?" she asked.

Shane shook his head and went to the fridge, opening it and pulling out a bottle of water then closing the door. "No, not a thing." He spoke matter of factually as he took a gulp of his water and Elsa studied him. His short spiky blonde hair was as always immaculate, but the exhausted look on his face and his wrinkled suit said otherwise. His built frame leaned up against the nearest wall. There had been a string of murders recently around LA. While this shouldn't be anything new to the city the circumstances of the crimes were anything but ordinary.

No less than ten bodies had been found in seemingly abandoned houses across the city within a three month span. All of them had their throats slit and had been stabbed a number of times. When the bodies were discovered they appeared to be layed upon some sort of alter unclothed, the alters themselves had strange writing engraved into them. Investigators assumed it was a coded language but so far no language expert could decipher the engravings. Lit candles had been found around the bodies and above all of them hung a red banner with a picture of a sun. No doubt they were all connected, but no other evidence had been found. No weapons, no fingerprints, no DNA… like nobody had been there at all.

Kelly, her mother had set her purse on the kitchen counter and reached in the fridge for a bottle of wine: red wine to be precise. She took a couple glasses from one of the cabinets and started pouring herself and Elsa a drink before speaking. "What we knew two months ago are the only things we still know now. But with no new evidence to be found we can only do so much, our options are very limited. Unless somebody comes forward or another victim pops up, we got nothing" Kelly put the cork back in the wine bottle and set it back in fridge before grabbing the glasses and going to sit next to Elsa on the couch, handing her one of the glasses.

Elsa watched her mother out of the corner of her eye as she took a sip of her wine. Kelly was a beautiful older woman with medium short brown hair and almond shaped eyes. Her black square glasses seemed to compliment her facial structure, her gray dress and black boots fit her figure well. She was a very sharp, intimidating woman. Her job as a captain seemed to fit her like a glove in Elsa's opinion. Elsa loved her mother very much, had been the only one there when Elsa was growing up. Her father had been not only a workaholic but also an alcoholic. He was never around while she grew up and when he was there all he did was drink and sleep. They were not very close but Elsa honestly couldn't find it in herself to care when it had been so painfully obvious that Elsa and her mother were not important to him.

Shane snapped into view out of the corner of her eyes when he sank into the brown recliner to the right of her, rubbing his face with his palms. Shane had come into their lives several years ago as a foster child. He had been abandoned by his parents in the middle of a zoo. He had been living on the streets for a few years before he ended up witnessing a murder and had to be placed in emergency care during the years-long investigation, with a trial following shortly after. That was when he was moved in with them and all of their lives changed for the better. Elsa and Shane had become very close, telling each other just about everything. Hanging out whenever possible, calling each other over the smallest little happenings. She loved Shane, the little brother she never knew she needed. And now here he was years later shadowing their mom and her team of detectives learning to become a lawyer, she couldn't be any more proud of him.

He glanced at her and gave her a small smile. "So how was your day sis?"

She inwardly cringed and laughed slightly, then scoffed. "I'm living the dream Shane, as usual. Living with mom when I should have my own place. But I cannot seem to even find a decent job to support myself. Like hell I'm going to work fast food." Elsa took a couple of gulps of her wine and stared forward with narrowed eyes. Really, why couldn't she find a simple job? It was like the world was against her moving forward with her life.

Her mother turned to her with a pensive expression. "What about that club downtown? That burlesque lounge? You have been dancing since you were three years old and can sing like nobody's business. It would be something at least." Kelly crossed her arms and watched her daughter's facial expression turn anxious. Elsa had many friends growing up but had always been slightly reserved. If only she could get over her fears her experiences with dancing and singing could get her anywhere in Los Angeles. She could probably even give Britney Spears a run for her money. Elsa was a beautiful twenty-five year old woman. She was slightly on the shorter side being only three inches over five feet tall but her lithe frame and toned body gave her the perfect figure.

Elsa sighed and took a few more gulps of the wine before responding. "Not happening anytime soon mom, I would end up having a heart attack right on the stage." She took another drink of her wine, wishing it was something stronger.

Kelly stared at Elsa and sighed "Elsa, you have to figure something out." Kelly Pointed a finger at Elsa. "I do not mind helping you but you have to figure this part out on your own sweetie, my help can only do so much. I do not care as long as you are doing something that makes you happy. Whether it's flipping burgers or you're the next entertainer of the year." Kelly took a drink of her wine and stared at Elsa a little while longer and patting her on the shoulder before rising from her spot on the couch, putting her glass in the sink and walking over to her bedroom door. Kelly gave her children a final glance and smile before opening her door and walking into her bedroom, and shutting her door.

Elsa glanced at her mothers door briefly before turning back to her wine and taking a long drink. "You know, maybe I should just go and give it a shot… whats the worst that could happen?" She laughed lightly and gently sloshed around what was left of the wine in her glass. "Worst is I guess I could brake a leg and embarrass myself." Finishing the rest of her wine she got up and went to the sink and rinsed out her glass and set it down. Shane watched her all the while.

"Maybe I could go with you? For emotional support of course." He rung his fingers together waiting for her to reply.

"No I'll be fine Shane. I'm a big girl, I can handle myself.' She emphasized while raising her left arm and flexing it, making her brother chuckle."Well I'm gonna turn in for the night I think." Elsa leaned backwards slightly to stretch her back then walked up to Shane, leaned down and enveloped him in a hug. "Love you, good night." She then walked down the hall and into her bedroom, shutting the door gently behind her.

Shane inclined his head slightly."Good night." He then got up himself, picked his bottle of water off the counter and walked into his own room and shutting the door.

Elsa's morning consisted of waking up at exactly nine o'clock and hopping into the shower while mentally planning her day. She has made up her mind, she was going to take her mothers advice and apply at the burlesque lounge. Elsa had been there several times before with a few friends and it quickly became one of her favorite places. It wasn't just the friendly atmosphere that caught her attention, it was just everything about the place. The singing, the dancing, the people that worked there… the drinks and appetizers were very good as well. It just seemed to call to her, and frankly she was tired of dead end jobs the lead to nowhere.

"It's either this or living with mom for the rest of my life." She stated while rinsing the conditioner out of her hair.

After her shower and brushing her teeth she browsed through her bedroom closet for something to wear to go buy some drawing supplies. Elsa had never been a vain woman, but that didn't mean she didn't know she was a beautiful young lady. She picked a simple beige crop top along with a dark blue pair of jean shorts and threw them on before running to her vanity to put on her make up. Her hair was still wet but she had ran a comb through it and opting to leave it down, vowing to do something with it when she returned home.

Her makeup and hair done she pulled a white pair of addidas out from under her bed, put them on and grabbed her purse from off her bed. Adjusting it over her right shoulder she walked out her bedroom and through the empty apartment to the front door. Her mother and brother having already left for the day there was no need to tell anyone she would be back later on.

Walking out the front door she locked it and made her way to the left towards the elevators and pushed the down button. While waiting for the elevator to arrive and the doors to open the hairs on the back of her suddenly stood up and she turned her head left then right but not seeing anything.

'Strange…" She thought to herself. "I could have swore I felt someone watching me."

She jumped slightly as the elevator dinged and the doors opened to allow her in. Shaking her head she stepped into the elevator and hit the button for the ground level, the doors closing a few seconds after.

Little did she know that somebody had in fact been watching her, and would continue to watch her until they felt the time was just right to put their plan into action. She was key to their success, whether she was willing or not.

And hello to everyone reading this story of mine! So this is actually my first story ever and I am still kinda new to the Elder Scrolls games so I'm trying to be as accurate with everything as I can be. I know it's started out a little slow but I promise it will pick up fairly quickly, but I also love long stories so there will be quite a bit of filler chapters! Leave me a review and let me know what you think :)
