We get to the white van. We approach it slowly, not sure what's going to be inside. Daryl opens the door quickly and it's empty. "All right, let's get this done" he goes to get in.

"It's not stable." Carol stops him.

"I'm lighter. I'll go." I suggest.

He ignores the offer and grunts, climbing inside the van. He goes straight to the front seat and Carol climbs in afterwards. I stay on the ground, keeping an eye on the walkers "Guys, hurry." I shout back to them. Two walkers get close and I take them out with my knife.

"There's more coming. We're gonna have to fight through." Carol says from inside the van.

"Yeah, I see 'em." Daryl responds back.

"We have to go!" I shout inside the van, there's too many coming, we have to start fighting our way out.

Daryl flips something over in the truck "GMH, what's that? A hospital?" He questions us.

"I don't know. Grady Memorial, maybe?" I comment remember hearing that name while I was temping at the hospital Rick and I were in.

"Grady, the white crosses- it might be where they're holing up." Daryl responds hopping out of the van and attacking walkers with carol and I.

Carol shoots her remaining three bullets "Daryl! Sadie!" She calls out to us while stabbing one in the head.

"Go, go, go, go!" Daryl yells out, Carol hops into the van first and pulls me up after. Daryl climbs in, kicks one out of the way with his feet and shuts the doors behind him. The dead begin to pile up against the van, shaking it.

"Anything we can use?" Carol shouts out.

"Nothin' but what we got." Daryl comments back. They both move to the front of the car. Daryl gets in the driver seat and Carol in the passenger seat. "All right, buckle up." He directs us.

"Babe" I say lowly. He looks at me and I stare at him. He catches on quickly, that there are only two seats in the van.

"C'mere!" He reaches his hand out and pulls me onto his lap. The walkers outside continue to rattle the van and it's getting ready to tip off the bridge. The seat belt is tight around my lap, just barely clicking in. I grip his left hand and he grips mine back. I grip the front dashboard with my other hand, getting ready for to brace the impact.

Carol reaches over and grabs my hand, looking at both of us with worrying eyes "you hold on." I tell her.

The car then falls forward and it's like I'm moving in slow motion. The ground twirls in front of me as the car flips, I pray that it keeps turning, landing on its tires. Suddenly it impacts the ground and everything is black. I hear a groaning followed by a shaky voice "we're okay" the man says lowly. I open my eyes, Daryl is trying to unbuckle the seat belt, telling us we are okay.

"We're okay." Carol responds back.

and I repeat it as well "we're okay." I chuckle amazed that we are.

Bodies begin to fall on top of the van, thudding against the metal. After a few more fall down it stops, and we all try to get out of the car. I stumble out, bending over and coughing. I lift my shirt up, exposing a large, already bruised area from where the seat belt lay too tight against me. Daryl comes out and I look at his head, he has blood coming from the side, probably hit the window trying not to hit me. I wipe at it, the pool of blood already slowing down. "It's not too bad" I say to him with a relieved look. Carol makes it over to us, limping from her injuries. We get on either side of her and walk slowly away from the crash site.

We find ourselves behind a fence, down an alleyway. Somewhere like a back entrance to a building. Daryl offers me some water "here" he tries to pass it to me.

"I'm fine" I decline it.

"Prove it." He says next. I roll my eyes and take the water. "How bad is it?" He asks Carol next to me.

She moves her neck a little, showing her own bruise "I've had worse" she adds on.

Daryl coifs, sitting down between us "damn, that was stupid."

Carol tries to lighten the mood "we made good time down." Daryl and I scoff at the joke. "There's only three blocks between us and Grady."

"We need to find a place nearby, scope it out, see what we can see." Daryl says.

"You really think we're gonna find out what we need to know just by watching?" I ask, hoping we really can.

"It's where we start." He says back. "Come on" he stands up, putting things back in his bag and we walk again.

We find another building, make our way inside. It's directly across from the hospital and has a great view of the front entrance. There's a walker on the ground, reaching at us once we walk in. I go over to it, grabbing the machete from its other hand and stab it with it. "It's them." Carol says from the window.

Daryl gets there before me but I see the other white vans outside the hospital as well "all right. Let's see what we see." he says. He passes a bag of chips over to Carol and one to me as well. I start eating, sitting on the ledge of the window. "You said I ain't like how I was before?" Daryl asks Carol.

"Yeah." She comments putting her bag down.

"How was I?" He asks curiously.

"It's like you were a kid. Now you're a man." She says back.

I ask her "what about you?"

She hesitates, but answers anyway "me and Sophia stayed at that shelter for a day and a half before I went running back to Ed. I went home, I got beat up, life went on, and I just kept praying for something to happen. But I didn't do anything. Not a damn thing. Who I was with him, she got burned away. And I was happy about that. I mean, not happy, but- And at the prison I got to be who I always thought I should be, thought I should've been." She stares at the ground now, avoiding eye contact. "And then she got burned away. Everything now just- consumes you." She tells us both.

"Well, hey..." Daryl grabs her attention "we ain't ashes."

A door shuts from somewhere in the building and all of our eyes turn to the door we came in from. We walk out the door, carefully and quietly to not draw attention. We turn a corner and see a deadhead pinned to the wall, an arrow through its neck "is that yours?" I ask him eyeing the green end.

"Yeah." He says back. He takes it out with the knife and pulls the arrow out. We walk further, and suddenly we hear automatic gunfire go off close by. I turn a corner and the same man who held a knife to my throat earlier pushes a walker towards me. I try to push it away but it falls on top of me. Daryl swoops in and stabs it, blood falling over me. "Oh, God." I say breathing heavily and winded. "I'm good. I'm good." I say as he helps me up "you go" I tell him.

He moves away and Carol comes up next to me. She helps me stand and we go to follow Daryl.

We get in the room and the man is on the ground, pinned underneath a bookshelf "plea- please. I had to protect myself."

"Why you followin' us?" Daryl yells at him.

He pants in fear "I-I didn't, I swear! I thought you followed me."

"Bullshit." Daryl quips back.

The walker continues snarling at the door "come on, man. Plea- please!" Daryl lifts something off the ground, a pack of cigarettes. "Please, please." He begs.

"Nah, I already helped you once. It ain't happenin' again." He lights the smoke. I stare at him, bewildered by what I am seeing. "Have fun with Hoss over there." He adds going to walk away.

The boy yells out "No. No, no, no. No. No, no, no! Please! Please! Please! I'm sorry, please! Please! Please, please!"

I call out to him "Daryl. Daryl. Stop."

He turns to us with anger flooding his face "you almost died 'cause of him!" he spits towards us.

"But we didn't." Carol reminds him.

"Nah, let him be." Daryl still disagrees to help.

He begs for his life. "I'm sorry. Please, I'm sorry!"

The walker gets out from behind the door and falls on top of the bookcase. He goes to attack the boy "Daryl!" Carol yells out as the boy cries for his life. Just when I think he's done an arrow goes through the head of the dead man. Although I'm relieved Daryl saved him, I'm still pissed by how he just went about it. I storm over to him, grab the cigarette out of his mouth and throw it on the ground. I step on it as I storm away from him.

I go back to the room we were in before, not wanting to be around Daryl right now. I sit at the window, watching like we did before. "Sadie-Mae!" He calls out to me but I ignore him.

"Sadie!" Carol calls next and I turn to the door.

Daryl opens it "we gotta go!" He shouts to me. I can see in the way he is looking at me that something is wrong.

I quickly run over to him and follow the boy out "what's going on?" I ask as we move.

"They have Beth. She helped Noah get out." Carol informs me "but they're here and we gotta go." She finishes. I look to her and Daryl with crazed eyes, not really understanding what's going on.

We get downstairs and head to the main door "the building next door has a basement. It's clear. We'll be safe." The boy, Noah, says as we move. He's injured and stumbles forward. "Ah! Ah!"

"Go, I got him." He commands and I keep moving. "Come on, get up. Get up." I hear him try to help him.

I go to turn around, to give him a hand but Carol stops me "I'll help, you keep going" she says. I nod and reach for the door. I get outside and just as I turn to see whose behind me a car approaches. My body goes numb and my brain is empty.
