Two days later we begin to prep to build the wall around the curved road. Carter coming up with a plan and the rest of us filling in jobs to get it done as fast as possible. This needs to work or else we risk the heard of walkers possibly breaking off and coming to our walls. Rick and I work on stuffing dirt and rocks into sand bags, he asks me "you sure you want to go out there? You could stay behind, take watch." He offers me an out. I eye him suspiciously and he shrugs when he answers "just worried about you goin' out there."

"Not worried about Daryl?" I ask him stuffing more dirt into another bag.

He shakes his head "he can handle himself" he responds.

"and I can't?" I ask him a bit offended. I've come a long way since the prison, I would have thought he'd seen that by now.

"I mean, sure. With Daryl or me around, but what if you guys get separated, then what?"

"Daryl and I won't get separated." I say back to him "and I think I can take care of myself now anyways," I snap, stuffing the small shovel into the bag of dirt before tying it up and grabbing another.

Rick sighs, lowering his head a bit "I'm not going to stop you from helping, I just want you to reconsider your role." He tries to convince me "being out there, diverting them as far away as we are, there are some dangerous people out there"

"You mean the W's?" I ask him, knowing a bit more after talking with Daryl.

He nods "and I don't want you runnin' into them, even with Sasha, Abraham and Daryl with you. It could get bad quick, and people will die." He says flatly.

"I appreciate your concern Rick, but this is my choice, and I'm going with him." I stand my ground.

"Alright." He reluctantly agrees and continues digging.

A few minutes later Daryl comes back with another wheel barrel full of dirt "hey, what you said before about us needing to take care of ourselves?" He starts, looking at Rick "going out finding more people, that is taking care of ourselves." He dumps the dirt down, turning the large barrel around to move "your call, though." He glances at me for a second before leaving.

Carol walks over, handing us something to drink. Rick takes his and I take mind, gulping it down after thanking her. "Thanks" Rick says slowly.

"You know, I can come with all of you." Carol says, looking around a little. "You and Daryl have been teaching me how to shoot." She smirks through the lie.

I smirk as well, keeping the cup to my lips to hide it "I think you got the hang of it." Rick replies with a smile of his own. "You should stay back, get a feel for how people feel now. We still got a long way to go with them."

"We'll get there." She responds back. "She's in charge. But you're in charge now." She says before walking away.

Rick looks after her, pondering what she said, his eyes squinting in the sunlight. "She's right yanno, you are in charge now." I say before standing up and walking away with 2 bags.

The next day is more work on building the wall, everyone inside whose not on guard and is able helps out at the road. I work with Tara on moving wooden rods for support. We come over from one side just in time to see a group of walkers coming out of the woods. I hear Rick tell Carter and the young boy with him to "use your shovels. The guns will draw more."

Carter calls out "help us."

Daryl puts his bow up, ready to shoot and I drop the wooden rod I am carrying and swing mine from my side, ready to follow his lead. "You can do this. You need to, all of you." Rick calls back to him. Carter pushes one away and the boy kicks one back before falling to the ground. I can tell Michonne is also restless watching this, wanting to take down the dead. Another few seconds go by and it doesn't look good for the two as more draw in and none are dead on the ground. Rick suddenly yells "Morgan, don't!" But it's too late, as Morgan moves quickly to attack.

Michonne follows, and Daryl releases his bow, taking one out. I let my bow fly and take one from the back out. Rick and Maggie also help. When it's all over, Morgan and Rick stare each other down. "You said you don't take chances anymore" Morgan remarks. Rick just stares at him before looking back to Carter, whose looking to Rick with wonder and anger. Rick walks off, and the rest of us slowly get back to whatever it was we were working on.

We finish the wall before the sun starts to set and head back to town. Daryl and I trail behind everyone else and I ask him "you talk with Rick about me coming with you?"

He turns his head and eyes me "naw" and then looks forward again "why?"

I tell him what he told me "he said he wanted me to stay back, was worried about me. I thought maybe you put him up to it."

"why would I do that?" He asks

I mumble "I don't know."

"Naw, yew know what yer doin out there." He says "but if yew do change yer mind, I wouldn't argue." He adds on.

"I'm not gonna change my mind." I return while wrapping my hand with his. He lets me and we walk back hand in hand as everyone in front of us keeps moving. When we get to the gate our hands release as Spencer lets us back in through the gate. Daryl heads off to work on his bike some more and I go look for something to do. Some time passes and I decide to make everyone lunch for tomorrows dry run. "Hey stranger, where you off too?" I ask Eugene as he walks towards the house with the food holdings.

"Getting some things for Carol, she's going to make a casserole tonight." He says not looking back to me.

"I'm headed over to grab somethings for tomorrow, what does she need?" I ask him.

He stops and pulls something out of his pocket, he hands it to me while stating "thank you kindly" and walks away.

I get into the house through the front door and go straight to the rack with the foods. I begin to grab things off the list when the chatter in the next room becomes clear. "Time is running out. He's talking about a dry run tomorrow. That's it." A man's voice says in a whisper.

I pick up one more thing, careful not to make any noise. "Rick stopped Pete. He stopped him." A female voice returns. I step closer, wondering what they are talking about.

"This is not about taking out a wife-beater." The man returns.

"He was a murderer, Carter." I place Tobin's voice. Ahh, so Carter is the one saying this. He must be upset about earlier, when Rick waited to step in with the dead.

He replies "what Rick wants to do is suicide. I'm sorry, Spencer, but Deanna is asleep at the wheel. So it's on us. We have got to stop him." He says to whomever else is in there. "What the priest said about him, about these people, he was right. How many more of us have to die before we do something? 'Cause pretty soon it's gonna be too late."

A women answers "Carter, you need to be really careful here. You're talking about us going to Deanna and telling her--"

Carter interrupts her "No, I'm not talking about talking some more. This isn't about having more meetings. I'm not talking about that. Plain and simple, we kill him before he kills us."

This startles me and I move just enough backwards where a glass I am holding drops to the ground and shatters. I stumble further backgrounds into the shelf and onto my ass. I try to get up but I'm too clumsy and stay on the ground as Carter turns the corner. "Hi there." I say with a straight face.

Carter stares at me, saying nothing and I stare at him worried. "Carter." Tobin calls to him.

"She heard," he says still looking at me.

"I didn't. I mean, I didn't--" I stutter out, trying to lie.

"Carter." Tobin tries to calm the man down.

"She heard." He says and in an instant, a gun is pointed at my head with his hand on the trigger.

Silence for what felt like minutes goes by before Olivia tries to get him to lower the weapon "Carter, don't. You can't. " She doesn't move.

The door then opens quickly and Rick, Daryl and Morgan are all standing there. Daryl's body tenses up instantly, his hand moving to his waist for his knife. "What the hell is going on?" Rick demands "what are you doing?" His arm flying in front of Daryl to stop him from attacking.

Carter keeps the weapon pointed at me but answers him "I'm taking this place back from you."

"That's what you were talking about in here?" Rick asks, looking to the other's behind him.

"That's what he was talking about." One replies. I couldn't tell if it was Tobin or Spencer though, the gun in front of my face making me nervous.

Rick steps just 2 more steps into the home "see, I would have-- I would have set up some lookouts. That would have been the smart thing." I know what he's doing, he's going to take the gun from his hand. I brace myself to duck in case the gun goes off. "You know, if I happened to--" and he makes his move for the weapon. It happens quickly and no shots ring out. Rick now has the gun pressed against Carter's head, his finger on the trigger. "You really think you're gonna take this community from us? From Glenn? From Michonne? From Sadie? From Daryl? From me?" He asks, spitting with rage. I stand up and move over to Daryl. My hand bleeding from rubbing against some of the broken glass. "Do you have any idea who you're talking to?"

Daryl puts his hand on my back, looking at me quickly. I know what he is about to say so I whisper to him "I'm okay."

"It was just me." Carter says from where he is kneeling.

"What?" Rick asks, as if he didn't hear him. We all did though.

"It was-- it was just me. Just-- just kill me." Carter pleas.

"Rick." Daryl calls to him after a few moments go bye.

Rick looks at Daryl then back to the gun and the head it's pointed at. He switches it around "I'm good. I'm good" and Carter's eyes wash over with relief. "You can try to work with us. You can try to survive. Would you do that?" He asks him. Carter slowly stands, nodding his head.

"Let's go." Daryl whispers lowly to me and we leave everyone else behind.
