As the three continued their meal Bucky asked,

"So, you've mentioned a few times now that both your grandparents told you stories about me. Did I know your grandfather? And, god that makes me feel old saying that."

Both Ruth and Steve laughed at that.

"Actually, I don't know if you really knew him well, but you served together. He was in the 107th. His name was Jack Wood and you saved his life. Twice as he told it."

"I did?"

"Yes. I told you you were a war hero. Grandpa told me the story when I was a kid. He said the first time was at the Battle of Azzano."

"That was a horrific day. They had those tesseract weapons that just vaporized men."

Ruth nodded.

"That's what my grandpa told me. He said that you yanked him out of the line of fire of one of those guns and saved his life."

Steve asked,

"Wasn't that when you got captured?"

Bucky nodded,

"It was. They just surrounded us and we couldn't fight back unless we wanted to be vaporized."

Ruth continued her story,

"My grandpa was captured as well. He only mentioned it once and never actually talked about that time, just that Captain America rescued them and they gave them hell on the way out. He did tell me about how he got sent home though. He said it was a few months after the rescue and he was wounded in battle and went down and you pulled him out of the line of fire just before a mortar landed right where he had been."

Ruth took a sip of water, then continued,

"Both my grandparents credit you with the life they built. My dad's middle name is James after you."

"Oh."

That was all Bucky could say. He never thought anyone would ever remember who he had been before the war let alone that someone would name their child after him.

Steve began to clean up the table and Ruth jumped up to help. Steve tried to stop her, insisting she was their guest. He insisted that she and Bucky go back to the sitting area and continue and he'd be over in a bit. Ruth complied and followed Bucky back to the couch.

Ruth noticed when Bucky sat down slightly closer to her than before and seemed a bit more relaxed but there was a bit of tension hanging in the air still.

Bucky finally broke the quiet and asked,

"So, you wanted to pick my brain. Is there something specific you wanted to ask?"

She took a deep breath to try and contain her excitement.

"First, please stop me if I get too personal or hit a sore spot, ok?"

He just nodded.

"What was life like back then?"

Steve called from the kitchen,

"The food was terrible!"

They both burst out laughing.

"Is that why you've picked up cooking as a hobby, Captain?"

"Yes ma'am."

Ruth laughed and Bucky just shook his head and chuckled.

"I mean he isn't wrong. But I don't know, life was just different back then. Chivalry was more of a thing. Communication was a lot different. Telephones weren't even in every home yet and now everyone has one in their pocket. The war changed a lot in a short period of time. Medicine was a lot different back then. It's a miracle Steve made it to adulthood."

"Hey!"

Steve called incredulously as he walked back in and sat in the chair across from the couch again.

"Don't even try, Steve. You were a 90-pound asthmatic that liked to pick fights in back alleys. It was a miracle of God and my good timing."

Steve just shrugged causing Ruth to laugh.

When they'd all stopped laughing, Bucky continued,

"I miss the music and dancing though. But the clothes are a lot more comfortable. I've also found that I missed some of the best music while I was frozen though."

Ruth hummed,

"Rock 'n' Roll. For sure."

Bucky nodded. It was quiet a few moments as the men reminisced. Then Ruth asked quietly,

"What do you remember about Dorothy?"

Ruth watched as he thought a moment,

"She was beautiful and funny and intelligent. I remember she was a great dancer. She was working at the phone company when I shipped out, but she had wanted to join the WASPs or WACS. Her father wouldn't allow it. I remember her being upset about it, but she respected his wishes. She had a great laugh. You look just like her."

Ruth blushed and looked down at her lap to hide it.

The three talked for more than an hour. The two men reminiscing about the past and some of the good changes the future had brought. Ruth glanced at her watch and was surprised to find it nearly 10pm.

"Oh my. I hate to cut this short because I really am having a lovely time, but I should really be getting home."

Both Bucky and Steve stood with her as she put her tablet back in her bag and slung it over her shoulder. They walked with her to the door and when Bucky grabbed his jacket off the hook she looked at them in question.

Bucky just said,

"I'll walk you home."

"Oh that's really not necessary. I'll be fine."

Both men raised an eyebrow and looked at her. Bucky simply said,

"I'll walk you home or we can take my bike."

"As in motorcycle?"

He nodded.

"Well I see chivalry isn't dead."

Both men chuckled. Steve reached out his hand and when she went to shake it, he just lifted her hand up and lightly kissed her knuckles.

"It was a genuine pleasure meeting you and spending the evening with you Ruth. I hope to see you again soon."

"Likewise, Captain. I had a wonderful time and thank you for dinner."

He nodded to her and Bucky opened the door and they headed for the elevator. They were both quiet on the ride down to the garage. There was a bit of tension in the air that wasn't necessarily unpleasant. When they stepped out into the garage, Ruth was in awe of all the beautiful machines parked there. She was definitely a car girl and this was a slice of heaven. Then she spotted the two motorcycles parked next to each other. As they walked up next to them, she could see they were vintage and pristine. She just looked at Bucky and said,

"It's beautiful."

Bucky smiled,

"You like it?"

"Oh, I love it. My dad was a car guy and he taught me to appreciate a fine machine."

Bucky chuckled and handed her a helmet. She put it on then asked,

"What about you?"

He shrugged,

"Super soldier."

Ruth rolled her eyes. He just smirked at her and threw his leg over the bike. She followed suit and he kicked up the stand, turned the key and kickstarted the engine. He turned to glance at her over his shoulder and asked,

"Ready?"

Instead of answering, she scooted forward a bit and wrapped her arms around his waist. Once secure, Bucky accelerated out of the parking spot and through the garage.

The garage dumped out on the back side of the building, so they had to go an extra block, which Ruth was perfectly fine with. The wind on her skin, the smell of leather and the feel of Bucky's solid frame against her was very pleasant. Bucky weaved effortlessly through the light traffic toward Ruth's apartment and when he pulled up on the curb she felt a twinge of disappointment that it was over.

Bucky put the kickstand down, killed the engine and let the bike lean on the stand. Ruth dismounted and removed the helmet and handed it back to Bucky.

"Thank you for a lovely evening Bucky. I really appreciated your stories and you inviting me into your home."

"And thank you for sharing your stories and those pictures with me and Steve. It really did mean a lot. To both of us. You are welcome at our place any time."

Ruth smiled softly and said,

"Good night Bucky."

She started to walk away towards the door to her building when she heard Bucky call,

"Ruth wait!"

She turned to find him getting off his bike and walking toward her. He stopped in front of her and said,

"As I'm sure you're aware, I've spent the better part of my adult life brainwashed and under someone else control so it's not exactly easy for me to trust others. Or myself for that matter. I never thought anyone would want to spend time with me alone or trust me in the slightest. That being said, I'm going with instincts on this and please stop me if I'm overstepping. I'd really like to see you again and spend more time with you."

"You would?"

Bucky nodded.

"Can I take you out for dinner tomorrow?"

Ruth blushed and smiled.

"I would love that Bucky."

Bucky smiled and said,

"I'll pick you up here at 6."

"Perfect."

Bucky took her hand and kissed her knuckles then headed back to his bike and waited until she was inside her building before taking off back toward the tower with a smile on his face.
